The Berean Christian Bulldogs barely got by the Somerset Canyons Cougars 14-12 in Boynton Beach on Friday. It was the first 2017 kickoff classic held in Palm Beach County.
Neither school was able to score in the first quarter. Berean Christian broke the tie with 8:10 left in the first half. Wide receiver Josh Lawler caught a 20-yard pass from quarterback Caleb Goertzen and was stopped at the Cougars 25-yard line. It led to a nine-yard touchdown run up the middle by running back David Rimes. He scored on a two-point conversion run to make it 8-0.
Somerset Canyons responded with 12 points during the third quarter to take the lead. The Bulldogs bounced back in the fourth quarter with a touchdown pass from Goertzen to wide receiver Michael Degler.
