The Miami Marlins survived the New York Mets 6-4 at Citi Field on Sunday. The Fish have been victorious in seven of their last nine games.
Christian Yelich helped the Marlins get up 1-0 in the top of the first. He got an infield single where Dee Gordon scored.
New York(54-68) was able to match it in the bottom of the first. Yoenis Csepedes cracked a solo home run to left field on a 2-2 pitch for his 16th homer of the year.
Miami(60-62) regained the lead in the third inning. Yelich pulled off another infield hit for Gordon to score.
Giancarlo Stanton extended the Marlins lead to 5-1 in the top of the seventh with his major league leading 45th home run of the season. He blasted a three-run homer to left-center field on the first pitch as Miguel Rojas and Gordon scored on the play. Yelich followed with a base hit, then Marcell Ozuna knocked him in on a single into center field.
In the eighth inning, the Mets slowly closed the gap with three runs. Cespedes drove in Brandon Nimmo with a double into center field. One batter later, Michael Conforto scored on a sacrifice fly by Wilmer Flores to left. Travis d'Arnuad then hit a single into left field and Cespedes crossed the plate to make it 6-4.
