The Washington Nationals got by the Miami Marlins 3-2 on Monday night at Nationals Park. The Marlins are now 1-3 on their road trip.
Washington(66-44) waited until the second inning to go ahead. Matt Wieters singled into right field for Ryan Zimmerman to score. Bryce Harper extended their margin to 2-0 in the bottom of the fourth when he smashed a solo home run to right on a 0-0 pitch for his 29th homer of the season.
Miami(52-58) chipped slowly at the lead. Odrisamer Despaigne compiled his third career base hit and first career RBI in the fifth inning as he drove in Tomas Telis with a single up the middle.
In the sixth inning, the Marlins were able to tie the game at 2-2. Giancarlo Stanton blasted his Major League Baseball leading 37th home run of the season to left on a 3-1 count.
The Nationals regained the lead in the eighth inning. Adam Lind knocked in Wilmer Difo with a single into center field.
