The Miami Marlins finished off a short three-game home stand with a sweep and a 9-2 victory over the New York Mets at Marlins Park on Wednesday. The Fish have rolled off four wins in their last five games.
The Marlins moved out to the lead in the first inning. Marcell Ozuna lined a base hit into right field for Giancarlo Stanton to score.
Miami(72-80) compiled three more runs in the bottom of the third. Ozuna send a base hit through the middle of the infield and Christian Yelich scored. Justin Bour followed with a two-run homer to center field on a 0-2 pitch.
In the fourth inning, the Fish continued their scoring momentum. Stanton singled into right-center field to score Miguel Rojas.
New York(65-87) broke the shutout in the fifth inning. Travis d'Arnaud sliced a single inside the right-field line with two out which brought in Kevin Plawecki. Brandon Nimmo added a solo homer down the right-field line on a 1-1 count in the top of the seventh to make it 5-2.
The Marlins placed four more runs on the scoreboard in the eighth inning. A.J. Ellis and Rojas combined for back-to-back solo home runs. It was capped by a Stanton home run to left field for his 56th homer of the season which leads the majors. Stanton reached 120 RBI as Gordon scored in front of him.
