The St. Thomas Aquinas Raiders challenge the Blanche Ely Tigers on Friday night at Richard L. Lewis Stadium in a District 14-7A game. Both the Raiders and Tigers can clinch the district title with a victory in this contest.
St. Thomas Aquinas(6-1, 1-0) are currently on a three-game winning streak. They outscored their opponents 194-36 this season. After a home opener win in overtime against St. John Bosco, STA compiled shutout victories against Piper and Stranahan. They lost in Arizona to Centennial and followed that with wins over Deerfield Beach, Fort Lauderdale and Boyd Anderson.
The Raiders will depend on quarterback Curt Casteel to led their offense. He has a wide receiver crew of Elijah Moore, Teriq Phillips, Tavares Kelly and Cole Caterbone to connect passes with. Daniel Carter is the lone running back on most offensive plays and is expected to get the bulk of the carries.
Blanche Ely(2-6, 1-0) have lost four straight game and face their local rival Dillard in the annual Soul Bowl next week. The Tigers began the season going on the road for their first four games with defeats to Stranahan and Plantation along with wins against Boyd Anderson and Fort Lauderdale. They have not scored more than 22 points in a game this year and been outscored 152-30 in their last four games.
The Tigers look for quarterback Yanez Rogers to march them down the field offensively. Wide receivers Akeem Hayes and Dashaun Davis are expected to make receptions from Rogers.
