Former Miami Heat beat writer Israel Gutierrez is losing his position as a weekday talk host on ESPN Radio at the end of December. Gutierrez worked at the Miami Herald as their beat reporter during the 2000s.
He left Miami and became an NBA columnist for the ESPN.com website. Gutierrez also was a panelist on Around The Horn and The Sports Reporters on ESPN television. It led him to a position as an NBA sideline reporter.
Gutierrez went more into radio in January 2015 co-hosting an NBA Sunday morning show. Sports Talk 790 The Ticket WAXY-AM added him as a guest morning co-host with Jonathan Zaslow and Joy Taylor for several months in early 2015. He was elevated at that radio station to the afternoon co-host spot with Ethan Skolnick and that lasted from September 2015 until late November 2015.
He joined ESPN Radio on a full-time basis in February 2016 as a late-evening co-host with Jorge Sedano. They had done the NBA Lowdown podcast together on ESPN Audio for several months prior to their new show. Their radio program lasted until September 2016 when Sedano moved to Los Angeles to become a morning co-host at KSPN-AM. Sarah Spain was named the new co-host with Gutierrez and they did the program together from September 2016 to December 2017.
