The Miami Marlins played their final game on the west coast this year and were by stopped by the San Francisco Giants 6-5 at AT&T Park on Wednesday. The Marlins, who won the season series against San Francisco, have fallen in three of their last four games. The Giants have been victorious in four of their last seven.
Miami(29-46) scored first in a contest for the first time in seven games this season against the Giants. In the second inning, Miguel Rojas singled to shallow left field and Cameron Maybin crossed the plate.
It was not until the sixth inning when San Francisco(37-38) compiled five runs. Brandon Belt socked a ground-rule double toward right-center field to score Kelby Tomlinson. Mac Williamson grounded to short for a fielder's choice and Joe Panik scored on the play. Hunter Pence then sliced a single near the right-field line which brought in Belt to make it 3-1. Gorkys Hernandez slapped a base hit to right-center as Williamson along with Pence scored.
The Marlins responded back in the top of the seventh. Yadiel Rivera knocked in Lewis Brinson on a sacrifice fly to center. Starlin Castro later singled in Rojas and they were down 5-3.
The Giants looked to expand their margin to three runs in the eighth inning. Nick Hundley scored on a base hit by Pence to left field.
The Fish attempted to pull off a major comeback like they have for the past nine games in the top of the ninth. Castro drove in Rojas with a sacrifice fly to center. Brian Anderson later singled to righ field and Dietrich scored to close the gap to 6-5. J.B. Schuck struck out with men on first and second to end the game.
