Sandy Alcantara won his first career start as the Miami Marlins smashed the New York Mets 8-2 at Marlins Park. The Marlins were able to end a three-game losing streak.
Miami(33-50) put up six runs in the third inning. Lead-off hitter Lewis Brinson hit the first pitch over the left-field fence for a homer. J.T. Realmuto knocked in Derek Dietrich with a single to left. Starlin Castro followed with a base hit into center field to score Brian Anderson. J.T. Riddle capped the rally with a three-run homer to right field on a 1-2 count. Realmuto and Castro crossed the plate before him.
New York(32-47) broke the shutout in the top of the fourth. Devin Mesoraco drove in Wilmer Flores with a double to deep left field.
The Marlins gained the run back in the sixth. A Cameron Maybin base hit into center field brought in Brinson.
Both clubs scored in the eighth inning. Flores grounded into a double play for the Mets and Jose Bautista scored. Miguel Rojas hit a sacrifice fly to left field and Castro was able to score.
