The Boston Red Sox pounded the Miami Marlins 14-6 at Fenway Park on Wednesday night. The Fish were swept by the Red Sox in the season series 4-0.
Miami(53-81) struck in the top of the second. Derek Dietrich smacked a solo homer to right field on a 0-1 count. It was his 16th home run of the season.
Boston(92-42) evened it up in the second inning. Eduardo Nunez skyed a solo home run over the Green Monster in left field on a 3-2 pitch for his ninth homer of the year.
The Marlins moved ahead in the third inning as they scored two runs with two out. J.T. Realmuto doubled to left-center field for Brian Anderson to score. Starlin Castro followed with a base hit to shallow right-center field.
The Red Sox responded with a run in the bottom of the frame. Mookie Betts homered to left on a 3-2 pitch for his 28th home run of the season.
The Fish made it a 4-2 margin in the fifth. Castro knocked in Anderson with a single into center field. The Sox got a run in the sixth inning when J.D. Martinez singled up the middle of the diamond for Betts to cross the plate.
The contest would change in the seventh inning. Miami posted one run at the top of the frame to pull ahead 5-3. Boston responded with a major rally as they scored 11 runs on 12 hits in the bottom of the seventh and led 14-5.
