A longtime rivalry is renewed in Palm Beach County as the Dwyer Panthers head for Belle Glade and take on the Glades Central Raiders at Effie C. Grear Field on Friday night. Both schools have not met each other since the 2014 season when Glades Central won at Dwyer 12-7.
The Raiders were victorious in six straight games over the Panthers from 2006 to 2011. The Panthers won the two season opener games in 2012 and 2013.
Dwyer(1-1) has been on both sides of the spectrum this season. They blanked Park Vista 40-0 in their home opener then lost to Atlantic 30-13 in Delray Beach last week.
The Panthers offense will be generated from their backfield with quarterback Gio Richardson and running back James Meeks. Others to get an occasional carry can be running backs Ernest Blackshear, Bobby Armes, Cedric Tucker and Reggie Gadsen. Richardson intends to find wide receivers Jamari Gaines, Tanner Franklin, Antavious Lane, Nic Jennings and Nick Bingo down the field.
Glades Central(1-1) has picked up momentum since the start of the season. They went to Davie and lost to the University Sharks 35-6 in a playoff rematch from last year. Last week they were home and edged Oakleaf 32-26.
The Raiders will depend on their passing game more with wide receivers Jymetre Hester, Odieu Hilaire and Ja'Vontae Williams getting the ball from quarterback Davius Richard. Running back Jaheim Humphries is expected to get most of their rushing attempts.
