The Miami Marlins began their final road trip of the 2018 regular season and lost to the Washington Nationals 7-3 at Nationals Park on Monday night. The defeat ended the Marlins three-game winning streak.
Both clubs scored during the first inning. Miami(62-94) got on the scoreboard when Miguel Rojas doubled to left-center field for J.T. Riddle to score. The Nationals gained the lead as Anthony Rendon knocked in Adam Eaton and Bryce Harper with a double into deep left field.
Washington(79-78) accounted for four more runs in the bottom of the fourth. Harper hit a sacrifice fly to right and Eaton scored. Rendon followed with a two-run homer to left field on the first pitch with Trea Turner scoring in front of him on the play. Juan Soto came up next and he smashed a solo home run to left field on the next pitch for a 6-1 lead.
The Fish added a run in the fifth inning. Brian Anderson singled to center field and J.T. Realmuto was able to score.
The Nats matched it in the bottom of the frame. Matt Wieters connected on a solo homer to left-center field on a 2-2 count.
Miami scored the final run of the contest in the seventh. Brinson grounded out to first for Peter O'Brien to get home.
