The Seminole Ridge Hawks topped the Boynton Beach Tigers 63-35 on Thursday night. Both teams surprisingly combined for 98 points without there being a running clock during the contest.
The Hawks got ahead 7-0 at 7:39 of the first quarter. Wide receiver Karsten Costain made a crossing pattern up the middle and caught a 43-yard pass from quarterback Kalmyn Castilla.
Boynton Beach(0-4) controlled the rest of the first quarter. Quarterback Guenson Alexis threw a 30-yard pass to wide receiver Shemar Jerome on a fly pattern at the 6:50 mark to tie the game 7-7.
Alexis gave the Tigers their only lead in the contest 14-7 with 1:04 left in the first. He scrambled through the left side and scored from 13 yards away.
The second quarter belonged to Seminole Ridge(4-0) as they compiled 35 points and came back. Castilla connected a pass to wide receiver Brandon Schabert on the right hash marks from 28 yards out at 11:19.
The Hawks made it 21-14 at the 7:25 mark when Castilla bolted up the right side of the line on a 13-yard touchdown run. Following a Tigers punt, Seminole Ridge scored during their first play on their next possession with 6:02 left in the quarter. Castilla tossed a pass to the right sideline where Schabert took it to the end zone for a 70-yard touchdown and a 14-point margin.
The Tigers answered quickly as they scored on the first play of their next drive. Alexis found wide receiver Charles Bryant all by himself ten yards behind the secondary and he easily scored on a 65-yard strike.
Two touchdowns were made by Seminole Ridge in the last three minutes of the second quarter. Running back Corey Polk blasted up the middle on a draw play from six yards away with 2:38 to go. They got a 57-yard interception return for a touchdown by linebacker Peter Synoyiannis with 17.6 seconds remaining to go up 42-21.
The Hawks increased their lead to 28 points, for the first of many times in the second half, at the 10:48 mark of the third. They scored on the second play of the quarter when Castilla threw a high pass on the right edge of the end zone from 32 yards out which Schabert caught.
Jerome got the ball, on a shovel pass from Alexis, around the left end and scored from nine yards away at 5:42 for the Tigers. A fast response happened for Seminole Ridge as running back Ethan Forman plunged in from five yards out with 4:10 left in the third.
Both teams interchanged scores in the final quarter. Alexis sneaked in from under center for the Tigers and got a two-yard touchdown on the first play of the fourth quarter with 11:54 to go and closed the gap to 56-35. Castilla broke several tacklers near the left sideline on a 14-yard touchdown run with 7:32 remaining for the Hawks.
