The Glades Central remain home and play the Coral Springs Charter Panthers at Effie C. Grear Field in a Class 4A regional quarterfinal on Friday night. It is the first time that the FHSAA has implemented five rounds of playoff games to win a state championship in small classifications.
Coral Springs Charter(7-1) lost their season opener to Pine Crest and have erupted with seven consecutive wins. They have compiled three shutouts in their last contests and outscored their last five opponents 157-29.
Panthers wide receivers Reynald Fleurival, Joseph Butler, Mark Dorsett, Trey Perry and tight end Jonathan Barr look to receive the ball from quarterback Brett Straus. Running backs Terrell Taylor, Mason Phillips and Joe Pozzuoli will split the rushing attempts from the backfield.
Glades Central(7-3) are on a roll and currently hold a five-game win streak. It includes a 22-12 win over the Pahokee Blue Devils last week in the Muck Bowl. They have outscored their last five opponents 169-57.
The Raiders will put more emphasis on their passing game. Davius Richard has the ability to fire passes down the field to wide receivers Jymetre Hester, Ja'Vontae Williams, Odieu Hilaire and Densa Washington. Hester, Williams and Hilaire all made touchdown catches in the Muck Bowl last week from Richard. Running back Jaheim Humphries is expected to get the majority of carries.
