The Cardinal Gibbons Chiefs host the Jesuit Tigers at Dr. Bud Tight Field in a Class 5A state semifinal on Friday night. The winner will play for the state championship on December 7 at Camping World Stadium in Orlando.
Jesuit(12-1) will be on the road for the first time in the playoffs. The Tigers blasted DeSoto County 44-0 in the regional quarterfinal, beat Immokalee 31-3 in the regional semifinal and defeated Jefferson 34-14 in the regional final. They have outscored their opponents 431-104 this season.
Cardinal Gibbons(11-2) got revenge and disposed of district rival American Heritage 35-7 in the regional final last week. The Chiefs have won 11 straight games which included a regional quarterfinal win over Merritt Island 49-14 and a regional semifinal victory over Jones 30-27. They have outscored their last 11 opponents 366 -110.
The Chiefs can depend on their rushing attack as running backs Vincent Davis and Tajae Davis will take turns carrying the ball from the backfield. Wide receivers Dimon Stewart, Troy Stellato, Dijon Senior, Nikolas Ogneneovic and Chris Benestad are the targets for quarterback Brody Palhegyi.
