The Florida Panthers got by the Vegas Golden Knights 3-1 on Saturday night at BB&T Center. It was the first game for both Derick Brassard and Riley Sheahan with the Panthers. The Golden Knights extended their losing streak to a franchise regular-season record four games. It is their longest losing streak since the Stanley Cup Final against the Washington Capitals last season.
The Panthers came out on fire and scored on their first shot of the game just 12 seconds into the contest. Alekander Barkov picked up a loose puck in the neutral zone and carried it down the right side into the Golden Knights zone. He placed a wrist shot by Marc-Andre Fleury for his 18th goal of the season.
Vegas(29-21-4) tied the game at 8:07 of the first. Paul Stastny fed a lead pass on the left side. Max Pacioretty went around Mike Matheson in the left circle and scored on a wrist shot past James Reimer. It was the 16th goal of the season for Pacioretty and his ninth in his career against the Cats.
Evgenii Dadonov was awarded a penalty shot when Derek Engelland took him down in the low slot on a breakaway with 57.9 seconds left. He fired a forehand shot on his attempt which hit the crossbar.
In the third period, Florida(21-21-8) regained the lead 2-1 with 13:47 remaining. Brassard sent the puck from his own zone off the boards ahead to Mike Hoffman. He broke through the defense at the blue line, skated alone in the slot and scored his 24th goal of the campaign on a snap shot.
The Golden Knights pulled their goalie with two minutes to go. The Cats would capitalize with 1:14 left. Aaron Ekblad flipped the puck from the back of the Panthers zone to center ice. Barkov angled a pass to his left and Frank Vatrano put the puck into an empty net.
