Several former local high school football players were selected during the first round of the 2019 NFL Draft. The draft began on Thursday night and was held in Nashville, Tennessee.
Nick Bosa was chosen with the second overall pick by the San Francisco 49ers. He was with the Ohio State University Buckeyes as a defensive lineman for the past three seasons. Bosa played high school football with the St. Thomas Aquinas Raiders. He helped STA win three FHSAA Class 7A state championships in 2012, 2014 and 2015.
Devin Bush Jr. was taken by the Pittsburgh Steelers as the 10th overall selection. He played the past three seasons with the University of Michigan Wolverines. Bush captured a FHSAA Class 8A state title with the Flanagan Falcons in 2015.
Florida State University linebacker Brian Burns heads to the Carolina Panthers as the 16th overall selection. He played for the American Heritage Patriots where they won two FHSAA Class 5A state championships in 2013 and 2014.
Marquise Brown was selected by the Baltimore Ravens with the 25th overall pick. Brown, who is the cousin of Oakland Raiders wide receiver Antonio Brown, was previously with the University of Oklahoma Sooners. He played high school football with the Chaminade-Madonna Lions.
Deandre Baker was taken at 30th overall by the New York Giants. He was a defensive back with the Miami Northwestern Bulls and the University of Georgia Bulldogs.
