The Miami Marlins topped the Washington Nationals 9-3 on Saturday night at Marlins Park. The Marlins have won two straight games. The Fish got their first series win of the 2019 season. The Nats are now 5-5 in their last 10 games.
Miami(6-15) jumped on the Nationals in the first inning. Brian Anderson doubled to deep left field which scored Curtis Granderson. Starlin Castro followed with a base hit to left-center field and brought in Anderson.
Washington(9-10) tied the contest in the top of the third. Matt Adams knocked in Victor Robles and Anthony Rendon with a single into left field.
The Fish regained the lead in the bottom of the frame. Castro poked a single to left field and Martin Prado scored.
It was a tie game again by the Nationals in the fifth inning to make it 3-3. Robles crossed the plate on a Howie Kendrick single to right field.
The Marlins would begin to pull away in the bottom of the fifth. Granderson smashed a solo home run to right-center field on a 2-2 pitch.
In the sixth inning, Miami added two more runs and extended their lead to 7-3. Pinch-hitter Rosell Herrera reached first on an infield hit. Nationals pitcher Max Scherzer made a throwing error which resulted in Miguel Rojas and Isaac Galloway scoring on the play. Granderson later popped a sacrifice fly to center field and Herrera crossed the plate.
