The Miami Marlins fell to the Atlanta Braves 4-3 on Sunday at SunTrust Park. The Marlins head for Cincinnati and play on Tuesday. The Braves have won four of their last five games.
In the first inning, Atlanta(5-4) struck early to take the lead against Marlins starting pitcher Caleb Smith. Ozzie Albies got on base with a leadoff single to left. Two batters later, Freddie Freeman blasted a two-run homer to left-center field on a 0-1 pitch.
It was a fast response by Miami(3-7) and they tied it 2-2 in the second inning facing Braves starting pitcher Sean Newcomb. The Fish had the bases loaded when Smith got an infield single for Starlin Castro to score. Miguel Rojas followed with a walk and Lewis Brinson crossed the plate.
The Braves pulled ahead again in the bottom of the fifth. Dansby Swanson belted a solo home run to center field on a 1-1 count.
The Marlins evened it up again with one out in the top of the ninth. Pinch-hitter Curtis Granderson hammered a solo home run to straight center field for his second homer for his team. It was his fifth career pinch-hit home run.
The Bravos answered back in the bottom of the ninth. Freeman led off and got to first on an infield hit off the pitcher Adam Conley. Ronald Acuna Jr. then hit the mitt of catcher Chad Wallach on a swing for catcher's interference. After a wild pitch, Nick Markakis walked to load the bases with none out. Swanson hit a line-drive single to left field and Freeman scored for a walk-off victory.
