The Cardinal Gibbons Chiefs face the University School Sharks at Nova High School on Friday night. It is a Class 4A regional semifinal contest between both Broward County schools.
Cardinal Gibbons(9-2) have won five straight games and scored at least 38 points per game in their last five contests. The defending Class 5A state champions handled Monsignor Pace 56-26 last week in a regional quarterfinal. The Chiefs have outscored their last 10 opponents 426-132. Running backs Tajae Davis and Coleman Bennett are expected to get the majority of carries. Wide receivers Majon Wright, Troy Stellato, Jackson Marsielle, Bryson Williams and Devon Kiser look to make catches downfield from quarterback Brody Palhegyi.
University School(8-2) had a bye last week and did not participate in the first round. The Sharks, who have won their last two contests, were a Region 4 champion in the previous two years. The team traveled far in their past three games to Clearwater Central Catholic, Bishop Verot and Immokalee. The main asset of their offense is quarterback Nick Vattiato. He can connect passes to wide receivers Deion Small, Brandon Inniss, Fredrick Cage and Vinny Pagano. Their rushing attack will be handled by running back Jayvant Brown.
