The Columbus Explorers challenge the Atlantic Eagles at Hilltop Stadium in Delray Beach on Friday night. Both schools have won district titles this year and will play in the FHSAA postseason next week. Both teams were also FHSAA Class 8A state finalists in the past two years.
Columbus(5-4) bounced back from a tough one-point loss to Dillard with a 42-26 win over Coral Gables to capture the District 15 title in Class 8A. They are playing their fifth consecutive game on the road. Running back Henry Parrish Jr. is expected to get the majority of rushing attempts from the backfield. Quarterbacks Brandon McDuffey and Fernando Mendoza will guide the Explorers offense down the field with passes to wide receivers Xzavier Henderson, Trynyty Conway, Christopher Gilbert, Ken Moore and Jahvar McSween.
Atlantic(6-2) clinched the District 13 title in Class 7A last week with a 34-16 victory over Blanche Ely. The Eagles have won their last three games and have not allowed more than 17 points in any game. Their only two losses this season were by a combined eight points. The quarterback position can be handled by Guenson Alexis and Jacoby Dorch. Running back Bry'yon Jones will get a bunch of the carries along with Antoine Williams and Montahj Joseph. Wide receivers Jordan Cash, Tyrese Blue, Javone Jackson and Tyler Burke look to make catches downfield.
