The Jesuit Tigers take on the Miami Northwestern Bulls at Traz Powell Stadium for the Class 5A state semifinal on Friday night. The Tigers lost the state semifinal to eventual Class 5A state champion Cardinal Gibbons 14-3 in 2018.
Jesuit(11-2) is on a ten-game winning streak and upended Lake Wales 53-21 in the regional final last week. The Tigers have outscored their last ten opponents 415-117. They beat Eau Gallie 45-9 in a regional quarterfinal and Chamberlain 30-7 in a regional semifinal. Quarterback Kiael Kelly looks to march their offense down the field. Running back Ricky Parks is expected to get the majority of their rushing opportunities along with Nick Spurlin and Joquez Smith. Wide receivers Christian Jones, Jaydin Girard, Lex Capitano, Carter French and Clark Wichman can make catches from Kelly.
Miami Northwestern(11-2), the defending two-time Class 6A champions, have won seven straight games and outscored their last seven opponents 320-43. The Bulls compiled five shutouts this season. They smashed Stranahan 63-0 in the regional quarterfinal, routed Killian 47-3 in the regional semifinal and edged American Heritage 23-20 last week in the regional final. Running back Nathaniel Noel will get a load of carries from the backfield. Taron Dickens and Kamari Brown can interchange at the quarterback position. They can connect passes to wide receivers Marcus Fleming, Kahill Brantley, Romello Brinson, Jalen Rogers, Baron Grant and Zaylan-Reese Pittman.
