The Dillard Panthers host the Miami Central Rockets at Otis Gray Jr. Memorial Stadium on Friday night in Fort Lauderdale. They were the only two southeastern Florida schools to make the FHSAA Class 6A playoffs this year. The Rockets eliminated the Panthers 35-20 in a regional quarterfinal contest last year on the same field.
Miami Central(9-3) went on the road last week and defeated the top seed Naples 56-23. They blanked Dunbar 38-0 in the regional quarterfinal. The Rockets have won their last two games and scored at least 32 points in every victory this season. Quarterback Katravis Marsh will led their team on offense. He can connect passes to wide receivers Shamar Zaragoza, Chamon Metayer, Geovanni Ribalta and Yulkeith Brown. Running backs Kejon Owens and Amari Daniels look to get their share of rushing opportunities.
Dillard(12-0) finally got out of the opening round, after falling at home for the past four consecutive seasons, with a 47-7 rout of Lely. The undefeated Panthers were able to hold off Fort Myers 35-30 in the regional semifinal last week. They are looking for their first state title since 1989 and have outscored their opponents 532-130 this season. Running backs Patrick Bowen and Leonard Shoultz are expected to get a bunch of carries from the backfield. Quarterback Zamir Jones can help their offense go down the field.
