The Florida Panthers played their first game since a four-game road trip against the Western Conference and routed the Detroit Red Wings 4-0 on Saturday night at BB&T Center. Floirda(7-3-4) will play 16 of the next 21 games at home through December 20. It was the first shutout by Sergei Bobrovsky in a Panthers uniform and 34th in his career.
The Panthers scored on their first power play at 3:05 of the first period. Denis Magin sent a cross-ice pass from the right circle through the slot. Brett Connolly then snapped a shot from the low left circle past Jonathan Bernier for his fifth goal of the season. Frank Vatrano was credited with a secondary assist.
Florida converted on their second power-play opportunity to go up 2-0 with 3:06 left in the first. Keith Yandle made a pass from the right point to Jonathan Huberdeau above the left circle. His wrist shot was saved, however Aleksander Barkov pounced on the rebound in the blue paint and poked it in for his second goal in the last two games.
The Cats made it a three-goal margin at 6:45 of the second period. Barkov fanned on a shot in the slot and Huberdeau followed up with a wrist shot from the edge of the left circle that went off the left skate of Trevor Daley for his eighth goal of the year. Anton Stralman picked up his 200th NHL assist on the play.
In the third period, Detroit(4-10-1) surrendered another goal at the 10:46 mark. Yandle forwarded the puck from above the left circle to Huberdeau to the left of the crease. He guided the puck into the net for his second goal of the contest and fourth tally in the last two games.
