The Pahokee Blue Devils edged the Glades Central Raiders 21-17 in the Muck Bowl at Effie C. Grear Field in Belle Glade on Saturday. The Blue Devils have won three of the last four games in this Palm Beach County rivalry. The Raiders have been victorious in nine of the last 12 contests going back to 2008.
Glades Central struck first during the second quarter. Quarterback Zomarion Harper rushed with the ball and scored on a four-yard run for a 7-0 lead.
After defensive back Kenny Mullins intercepted a pass, Pahokee(4-5) closed it to 7-6 late in the second. Running back Corey Polk rumbled up the middle untouched from two yards away.
The second half began great for the Raiders. They scored on their first possession with a four-yard touchdown run by running back Steven Beldor.
On the first play of the fourth quarter, the Blue Devils tied the contest. Jermaine Roberson raced out of the pocket and reached the end zone on a 15-yard run. He scored on the ensuing two-point conversion run to tie the game 14-14.
It would come down to the end of the fourth. Raiders kicker Jose Garcia booted a 32-yard field goal with 4:42 remaining and they regained the lead 17-14.
The Blue Devils got their first lead of the contest with 29.4 seconds left. Roberson rolled out to his left and threw a jump-pass to wide receiver Johnny Jomes in the back left corner of the end zone.
