The Venice Indians travel across the state to take on the Palm Beach Lakes Rams on Friday night in West Palm Beach. It is a Class 7A regional semifinal contest.
Venice(6-4), who were the 2017 Class 7A state champions, have captured Region 3 for the last three years. The were able to rout Lehigh 49-0 last week in the first round and have scored at least 42 points in all of their victories this season. The Indians can go with Ryan Overstreet and Nico Dallacosta at the quarterback position. Running backs Brian Taylor and Damarion Escort will split their rushing opportunities. Expected to make catches are wide receivers Malachi Wideman and Weston Wolff along with tight end Garrett French.
Palm Beach Lakes(10-0) played in their closest game of the season last week as they barely survived East Lake 32-27 in a regional quarterfinal. The Rams, who are undefeated and the top seed in Region 3, have outscored their opponents 393-143 this year. There is an uncertainty if running back Antonio Outler will play in the game. They may rely on their other running backs Derrick Lee and Micah Butler. Quarterback Tre'Von Taylor will look for wide receivers Jalen Jones, Markell Lee, Christopher Johnson and Antorey Williams on passing attempts.
