The Miami Northwestern Bulls take on the Jones Tigers on Saturday at Daytona Stadium in Daytona Beach for the FHSAA Class 5A state championship.
Miami Northwestern(12-2) is looking to win their third consecutive state championship. They captured the Class 6A state title for the last two years and were moved to a new classification this season. The Bulls, who have compiled five shutouts, are on an eight-game winning streak and have outscored their last eight opponents 362-64. They crushed Stranahan 63-0 in the regional quarterfinal, powered by Killian 47-3 in the regional semifinal, got by American Heritage 23-20 in the regional final and topped Jesuit 42-21 in the state semifinal. Running back Nathaniel Noel is expected to get the majority of carries from the backfield. The offense can go with quarterbacks Taron Dickens and Kamari Brown on any snap. They have a core of wide receivers that includes Kahill Brantley, Marcus Fleming, Romello Brinson, Jalen Rogers, Baron Grant and Zaylan Reese-Pittman.
Jones(13-1) have won 11 consecutive contests and hosted four postseason games. The Tigers have outscored their opponents 550-172 this season. They beat Bishop Moore 32-16 in the regional quarterfinal, downed Nature Coast Tech 35-14 in the regional semifinal, defeated Vanguard 37-14 in the regional final and edged Wakulla 21-20 in the state semifinal. Quarterback Tysan Robbins can pass the ball to wide receivers Jadan Robinson, Mendez Jean-Baptiste, Dacarri Allen-Johnson, Aramoni Rhone and tight end Anthony Rucker. Running back Avarius Sparrow will get the bulk of the rushing attempts along with Trumon Latimer, A'ceon Cobb and Daquan Harris.
