The Florida Panthers defeated the Detroit Red Wings 4-1 at Little Caesars Arena on Saturday night. It was the first contest of a three-game road trip for the Panthers prior to the NHL All-Star Game break. The Panthers moved to third place in the Atlantic Division while Red Wings are last in the National Hockey League.
Florida(26-16-5) put in two goals in a 1:25 time span. Evgenii Dadonov scored his 21st goal of the season for the Panthers with 2:45 left in the first period. Mark Pysyk made it 2-0 with 1:20 remaining in the opening frame.
Detroit(12-33-4) scored the only tally during the second period. Dylan Larkin added his 15th goal of the campaign at the 5:15 mark and cut it to 2-1.
The Panthers, won have won four straight games, regained a two-goal gap on a power-play goal at 13:05 of the third. Aleksander Barkov got his 15th goal on assists from Keith Yandle and Jonathan Huberdeau. Denis Malgin of the Cats capped the scoring on an empty-net goal with 1:48 to go.
