The Florida Panthers completed a five-game road swing with a 2-1 victory over the Arizona Coyotes on Tuesday night at Gila River Arena. The Panthers finished with a 3-2-0 record on the road trip.
The Cats return home on Thursday and face the Toronto Maple Leafs to begin a five-game home stand. Florida will get the chance to jump the Maple Leafs for third place in the Atlantic Division.
In the opening period, Arizona(31-27-8) drew first blood on a shorthanded goal with 5:44 left. Brad Richardson snapped a shot from the slot area which Sergei Bobrovsky saved, however Richardson put in the rebound on a forehand shot.
Florida(33-24-6) got the only tally during the second period at the 11:03 mark. Frank Vatrano beat Darcy Kuemper as he scored on a wrist shot from the top right circle for his 16th goal of the season on assists by Mike Hoffman and Aaron Ekblad.
The Panthers moved ahead 2-1 with a power-play goal at 8:50 of the third period. Keith Yandle advanced the puck from the right point to Aleksander Barkov in the right corner. He sent it behind the Arizona cage to Jonathan Huberdeau on the end wall. He centered it and Hoffman blasted a one-time slap shot from the left circle for his 25th goal of the campaign.
