The St. Thomas Aquinas Raiders smashed the Gaither Cowboys 50-14 in a FHSAA Class 3M state semifinal at Simmons Family Field in Fort Lauderdale on Friday. The Raiders will look to capture their fifth consecutive FHSAA state titles and state-record 15th FHSAA football state championship in Tallahassee next week. STA had not lost a home playoff game since 2003.
St. Thomas Aquinas(13-1) had a 14-0 advantage after one quarter. STA made it 27 unanswered points before Gaither(8-6) scored to make it 27-7 with five minutes left in the second quarter. The Raiders added 13 more points for a 40-7 lead at halftime. St. Thomas Aquinas got a touchdown and had a 40-point margin in the third quarter.
