The Western Wildcats head up to Palm Beach County and face the Palm Beach Central Broncos in a Class 8A regional semifinal on Friday night. The winner of this game will take on the winner between Atlantic and Park Vista next week.
Western(9-2) went on the road and upset Deerfield Beach 20-17 last week in a regional quarterfinal. The Wildcats have outscored their opponents 343-137 this season. They have averaged 31 points for and 12 points against per game.
Quarterback Harrison Story gets to lead the Wildcats offense and he will look to connect passes to wide receivers Jordan Smith, Steffen Fernand and Jaeden Fagan. Running backs Keshaun Clarke and Daniel Colon expect to get their share of rushing opportunities.
Palm Beach Central(8-2) picked up a 32-0 shutout victory over district rival Seminole Ridge last week in a regional quarterfinal. The Broncos became the top seed in Region 3 when the top two seeds Miramar and Deerfield Beach lost last week and therefore host a second-round contest. They have blanked their last four opponents and enter this game on a seven-game winning streak.
The Broncos offense has quarterback Nick Atkins at the helm. He will look for wide receivers Bryan Robinson, Mike Moreland, Gen'taris Oliver, Fornoris Roberts and Tyler Baker to make pass receptions. Running back C.J. Stewart is expected to get the bulk of the carries. Akeem Dent, who transferred from Pahokee, can make an impact on offense and defense.
