The Miami Dolphins were eliminated from playoff contention as they fell to the Kansas City Chiefs 29-13 at Arrowhead Stadium on Sunday. The Dolphins finished their season next week when they host the Buffalo Bills. Kansas City clinched the AFC West Division and repeated as division champions for the first time in franchise history.
The Chiefs got a 31-yard field goal from Harrison Butker at 9:45 of the first quarter. Cody Parkey matched to tie the game 3-3 for the Dolphins at 3:33 on a 44-yard field goal.
In the second quarter, quarterback Alex Smith connected a nine-yard pass for Kansas City(9-6) in the right seam to tight end Travis Kelce for a score at the 13:04 mark. Parkey cut the lead to 10-6 with a 28-yard field goal at 8:14.
Running back Kareem Hunt would extend the Chiefs margin to 17-6 with 3:41 left in the second on a rush up the middle from one yard out. Quarterback Jay Cutler answered back for Miami(6-9) seven seconds later on the first play of the next drive as he threw a long pass on the left hash marks to wide receiver Jakeem Grant for a 65-yard touchdown. Butker drove in a 32-yard field goal with 11 second to go in the first half to make it 20-13.
There were no touchdowns during the second half. Butker popped a 21-yard field goal at 10:27 of the third quarter. He added a 29-yard field goal at the 12:19 mark and blasted a 49-yard field goal with 3:46 remaining in the fourth.
