The Booker T. Washington Tornadoes head out of the South Florida and face the Lakewood Spartans in St. Petersburg on Friday night in a Class 4A state semifinal.
Booker T. Washington(11-2), who have won seven straight games, took the tough road to get to this point. They defeated Carol City 35-14 in the first round, got by Gulliver Prep 34-31 in the second round and beat Cardinal Gibbons 31-21 in the regional final. They have outscored their last five opponents 181-80. The Tornadoes have Torey Morrison at quarterback and he has the capability to scramble out of the pocket. His main targets are wide receivers Theodore Richardson, Jacorey Brooks and Macho Arza. Ternard Summerall and Corey Stanley. Running back Shemar Paul and Nijeh Bethel will get their rushing opportunities.
Lakewood(12-0) began the 2019 season with four consecutive shutouts and have seven shutouts overall this year. The Spartans have outscored their opponents 442-74 this season and scored at least 21 points in every contest. They pounded Clewiston 35-0 in the second round and handled Tampa Catholic 29-7 in the regional final last week. Quarterback Gregory Spann will guide their offense down the field. They have options in their rushing game with running backs Derreyon Maxwell-Black, Derrel Kelley III and Keyon Hayes. Wide receivers Artez Hooker, T.J. Tampa, Derric Turner and Avion Maybell can make pass receptions.
