Marlins Exercise Sandy Alcantara Club Option

The Miami Marlins have exercised the club option on starting pitcher Sandy Alcanatara over the weekend. He will receiver $21 million from the team for the final year of his contract instead of a $2 million buyout by the Marlins.
Alcanatara has been with the Marlins organization since the 2018 season. He was acquired from the St. Louis Cardinals for outfielder Marcell Ozuna in a five-player trade back in December 2017.
He will be entering his 10th season with the Marlins. Alcantara helped Miami reach the postseason twice in 2020 and 2023. He holds several all-time pitching franchise records including setting the career strikeout record on June 23.
