West Palm Beach Ratings March 2026

     Ratings were issued for sports talk format radio stations in the West Palm Beach area. The time span went from the first week of March to the first week of April. 
     Fox Sports 640 South Florida WMEN-AM remained at a 0.3 for the fifth straight month. The Florida Atlantic University men's basketball team ended up with an 18-16 record. They were eliminated by Tulane in the second round of the American Athletic Conference Tournament. FAU reached the NIT Tournament and were defeated at home in the first round by Dayton. 
     Sports Radio 1230 The Gambler WBZT-AM stayed at a 0.0 for the fourth consecutive period. The University of Florida men's basketball team fell to Vanderbilt in the SEC Tournament semifinals and lost to Iowa during the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

Locals Taken In First Round

     Several football players with South Florida connections were  chosen by teams in the first round of the 2026 NFL Draft. It was held on Thursday night in Pittsburgh. 
     University of Indiana Hoosiers quarterback Francisco Mendoza was taken first overall by the Las Vegas Raiders. He captured a CFP National Championship back in January. Mendoza played high school football with the Columbus Explorers.
     Two University of Miami Hurricanes players were then chosen. Offensive lineman Francis Mauigoa was drafted xxx overall by the xxxxxx  xxxxxxx. Defensive lineman Rueben Bain Jr. was taken by the xxxxxx xxxxxxx at xxxx overall. Both players helped the Canes reach the CFP National Championship game against Indiana last season.

Dolphins Choose xxxxxxxx

     The Miami Dolphins made their second selection in the 2026 NFL Draft first round in Pittsburgh on Thursday night. The Fins decided on xxxxxxxxx  xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx at 30th overall.

     The first round of the 2026 NFL Draft was held in Pittsburgh on Thursday night. The Miami Dolphins looked to reset their franchise.
     The Dolphins selected xxxx xxxxxxxxx xxxxxxx 11th overall in the first round.

Joey Reynolds Radio Hall Of Fame Finalist

     Former Miami radio talk show host Joey Reynolds has been named a finalist for the Radio Hall Of Fame. He is one of 24 finalists to be nominated. The new inductees will be announced on May 20. 
     560 WQAM-AM flipped to a general talk show lineup in January 1992. Reynolds worked as the morning host at WQAM from January 1992 until early 1993 when he was replaced by The First Team with Jimmy Cefalo and Dave LaMont. 

Inter Miami CF Pass By Real Salt Lake

     Inter Miami CF shifted by Real Salt Lake 2-0 at America First Field on Wednesday night. The Herons concluded their two-game road swing in the Rocky Mountains. 
     It was the first away game for Inter Miami CF in the state of Utah. The Herons hosted Real Salt Lake for the regular season opener in 2024. 
     There were no goals by either team during the first half. Inter Miami(5-1-3) waited until late in the second half to go up 2-0 in a two-minute span. 
     Rodrigo De Paul made it 1-0 in the 82nd minute for the Herons when he blasted a right-footed shot from 27 yards away. Real Salt Lake(5-2-1) then surrendered another goal as Luis Suarez volleyed in a shot from 15 yards out with his left foot during the 83rd minute of play. 

Marlins Swim By Cardinals

     The Miami Marlins sailed by the St. Louis Cardinals 4-1 on Wednesday at loanDepot park. The Marlins completed a six-game homestand and have Thursday off.  
     Miami(12-13) scooted out a to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second. Owen Caissie singled through the left side for Agustin Ramirez to score. Three batters later, Jakob Marsee walked with the bases loaded and Heriberto Hernandez touched home. 
     The Marlins increased it to 3-0 with one run in the fourth inning. Marsee knocked in Leo Jimenez with a base hit through the right side. 
     It became 4-0 for the Fish in the bottom of the fifth. Ramirez singled up the middle and Otto Lopez crossed the plate. 
     St. Louis(14-10) avoided the shutout in the top of the ninth. Ivan Herrera connected with a solo home run to left-center field for his third homer of the season.

Eric Hosmer Added By Peacock

     Former Broward County high school baseball player Eric Hosmer has been added to a baseball broadcast by Peacock. He will work as a game analyst on Sunday night between the Kansas City Royals and Los Angeles Angels. 
     Hosmer played with the American Heritage Patriots in high school baseball. He participated with the Royals from 2011 until 2017. Hosmer captured a World Series title with Kansas City in 2015 and two American League pennants. 

Miami Ratings March 2026

     104.3 Sports WQAM-FM shifted from a 1.0 to a 0.8 in the month. WQAM became the new radio flagship station of the Miami Marlins in late March. The Fish began the 2026 regular season with an impressive 5-1. It was just the sixth time in franchise history that the Marlins won five of their first six games to start a campaign. The Florida Panthers were on brink to end their two-time Stanley Cup championship run and not reach the postseason. The Miami Heat had a 40-37 record and had already clinched an NBA Play-In Tournament spot. 
     Fox Sports 940 WINZ-AM stayed at a a 0.3 in the period. The radio station lost the radio rights to Miami Marlins. The University of Florida Gators men's basketball team lost in the SEC Tournament semifinals to Vanderbilt and were eliminated in the second round of the NCAA Tournament by Iowa. The WINZ stream on WZTU-FM-HD2 was at a 0.1 for the third consecutive time.

Cardinals Fly By Marlins

     The St. Louis Cardinals eased by the Miami Marlins 5-3 at loanDepot park on Tuesday night. The Marlins will finish their six-game homestand tomorrow. 
     Both clubs scored one run in the first inning. Jakob Marsee homered for the Fish in the bottom of the frame. St. Louis(14-9) put up one run in the third, two runs in the fourth and one run in the fifth for a 5-1 lead. Nathan Church cracked a two-run homer to right field on a 1-1 pitch during the fourth inning. 
     Miami(11-13) tried to cut the deficit late in the contest. The Marlins compiled two runs in the bottom of the eighth and trailed 5-3. Heriberto Hernandez singled into right field to score Liam Hicks and Javier Sanoja.

Jaime Jaquez Jr. Sixth Man Of The Year Nominee

     Miami Heat forward Jaime Jaquez Jr. has been nominated for the NBA Sixth Man of the Year Award. Tim Hardaway Jr. of the Denver Nuggets and Keldon Johnson of the San Antonio Spurs are the other nominees. 
     Jaquez came off the bench in 74 of 75 contests he played this season. He averaged 15.4 points, 5.0 rebounds and 4.7 assists per game during the 2025-26 regular season. 

Marlins Drop Cardinals

     The Miami Marlins disposed the St. Louis Cardinals 5-3 at loanDepot park on Monday night. It was the start of a three-game series between both teams. The Cardinals had their five-game winning streak snapped. 
     St. Louis(13-9) had a 1-0 advantage in the top of the fourth. Masyn Winn hit a sacrifice fly to left-center field for Jordan Walker to score.  
     Miami(11-12) answered back in the bottom of the fourth. Xavier Edwards powered a ground-rule double into left-center field and Kyle Stowers crossed the plate. It was the first run scored by Stowers this season after coming off an injury. 
     The Marlins took their first lead of the contest 2-1 in the fifth inning. Agustin Ramirez socked a solo home run over the left-center field wall on a 1-2 pitch for his second homer of the year. 
     The Cardinals evened the game up 2-2 in the top of the sixth inning. They were able to tie it when Walker reached home on a wild pitch. 
     The Fish regained the lead 4-2 in the bottom of the sixth. Otto Lopez doubled down the left-field line and Stowers scored. Two batters later, Liam Hicks drove in Lopez with a base hit through the left side. 
     Miami expanded it to 5-2 during the eighth inning. Hicks singled through the right side and Lopez touched home. 
     The Redbirds added one more run in the top of the ninth. Ramon Urias knocked in Winn on a sacrifice fly into center field.

Miami Heat 2025-26 Season Review

     The Miami Heat finished off their 2025-26 season last week. They had the 10th best record in the Eastern Conference with a 43-39 record. 
     The Heat placed themselves in the NBA Play-In Tournament for the fourth straight season. Miami had their season ended by the ninth-seeded Charlotte Hornets 127-126 in overtime. 
     Heat center Bam Adebayo led the Heat with 20.1 points-per-game and 10 rebounds-per-game in 73 contests. Guard Norman Powell was the team's representative at the 2026 NBA All-Star Game as he compiled 21.7 points-per-game during 2025-26 in 58 games. 
     Miami guard Tyler Herro showed up midway through the campaign after being detained by an injury since the start of the season. He ended up with 20.5 points, 4.8 rebounds and 4.1 assists per game in 33 contests. 

Florida Panthers 2025-26 Season Review

     The Florida Panthers completed their 2025-26 campaign last week. Their string of two straight Stanley Cup championships and three Eastern Conference titles also ended. The team missed the postseason for the first time since 2019. 
     The Panthers had 40-38-4 record for 84 points. The Cats finished seventh in the Atlantic Division and had the third worst record in the Eastern Conference. 
     Florida saw a season in which they were decimated with injuries. Panthers captain and center Aleksander Barkov suffered a season-ending injury in the team's first practice during the preseason. He did not participate in any game this season. Right wing Matthew Tkachuk did not get into the lineup until a couple days after the 2026 Winter Classic held at loanDepot park in Miami. He ended up playing in just 31 contests with 13 goals and 21 assists for 34 points. 
     No player on the team reached the 30-goal mark. Sam Reinhart led the Panthers with 29 goals and 32 assists for 61 points. Sam Bennett tied with 32 assists along with 26 goals for 58 points in 2025-26. 
     Forward Carter Verhaeghe chalked up 25 goals and 30 assists for 55 points. Center Brad Marchand compiled 27 goals and 27 assists for 54 points in 52 games. Goalie Sergei Bobrovsky had a 27-23-1 record with a 3.07 goals-against-average, .877 save percentage and four shutouts.

Marlins Avoid Sweep

     The Miami Marlins prevented a three-game series sweep with 5-3 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers at loanDepot park on Sunday. The Marlins are 2-0 at home this season wearing their throwback teal and black jerseys. The Fish will host the St. Louis Cardinals for the next three days. 
     Miami(10-11) ripped out to a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Jakob Marsee scored on a wild pitch. Heriberto Hernandez then grounded into a double play for Xavier Edwards to score. Liam Hicks followed with a base hit into left field and Otto Lopez crossed the plate.
     Milwaukee(12-9) made it 3-1 in the top of the sixth. Garrett Mitchell grounded out to first and David Hamilton reached home.
     The Marlins expanded their lead to 5-1 with two runs in the bottom of the sixth. Javier Sanoja knocked in Hicks and Owen Caissie on a single into center field.
       The Brewers cut it to 5-3 during the eighth inning. Gary Sanchez drove in Sal Frelick and Mitchell with a base hit up the middle.

Inter Miami CF Outlasts Colorado

     Inter Miami CF broke the Colorado Rapids 3-2 in Empower Field at Mile High on Saturday. It was the first time that the Herons played a contest in Denver. Both teams met in Fort Lauderdale back in April 2024.
     Miami(4-1-3) rushed out to a 1-0 lead in the 18th minute of play. Lionel Messi scored on a penalty kick with his left foot through the middle of the cage.
      The Herons expanded their lead to 2-0 during stoppage time at the end of the first half. German Berterame was able to get the tally on a header from five yards away. 
     Colorado(4-4-0) rallied back early in the second half and tied it 2-2. Rafael Navarro scored during the 58th minute on a right-footed shot from 15 yards out. Darren Yapi found the net in the 62nd minute from 11 yards away with his left foot. 
      Inter Miami CF reclaimed the lead 3-2 in the 79th minute. Messi picked up his second goal of the contest when he drilled a left-footed shot from 14 yards. 

Brewers Mix Marlins

     The Milwaukee Brewers handled the Miami Marlins 5-2 on Saturday at loanDepot park. The Marlins continued their homestand. 
     Miami(9-12) had a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second. Connor Norby singled up the middle for Liam Hicks to score.
     Milwaukee(12-8) evened it up 1-1 in the top of the fourth. Brandon Lockridge knocked in Luis Rengifo on a base hit into center field.
      The Brewers increased their lead in the middle of the contest to 5-1. They added two runs in the fifth inning and two runs in the sixth inning.
      The Marlins placed one run during the bottom of the ninth. Heriberto Hernandez grounded into a force out and Otto Lopez crossed the plate.

Aleksander Barkov Playing In World Championship

     Florida Panthers center and captain Aleksander Barkov will participate for Team Finland in the 2026 World Championship. It will happen in the next couple of weeks. 
     Barkov did not play in a contest this season with the Panthers due to an injury. He captained Florida to two Stanley Cup titles and three Eastern Conference championships in the past four seasons. 

Brewers Get By Marlins

     The Milwaukee Brewers topped the Miami Marlins 7-5 in 10 innings at loanDepot park on Friday night. The Fish began a six-game homestand. 
     Milwaukee(11-8) scored three runs in the top of the 10th for a 7-4 advantage. Miami(9-11) could gather just one run in the bottom of the 10th.

Devils Hire Sunny Mehta

     The New Jersey Devils have hired Sunny Mehta as their new general manager. He replaces former Florida Panthers player Tom Fitzgerald in that post. 
     Mehta has spent the past six seasons with the Florida Panthers. He has been the assistant general manager and director of analytics with the club since 2023. The Panthers captured two Stanley Cup titles and three Eastern Conference championships during his tenure. 
     It will be his second stint with the Devils organization. He worked as the director of hockey analytics from 2014 until 2018. 

Luke Williams Becomes Free Agent

     Atlanta Braves outfielder Luke Williams has refused an assignment to the minors. He will now become a free agent. 
     Williams once played for the Miami Marlins in 2022. He compiled one home run, three runs batted in and a .235 batting average in 71 contests with the Fish. 

Damon Jones Pleading Guilty

     One-time Miami Heat guard Damon Jones is expected to plead guilty to illegal gambling on April 28 in a Brooklyn federal court. It is unknown as of now if he will receive a jail sentence.
     Jones played for the Heat during the 2004-05 season alongside Dwyane Wade, Shaquille O'Neal and Udonis Haslem. The club reached to the Eastern Conference Finals that season. They were upset and lost a seven-game series to the Detroit Pistons. 

Panthers Waive Noah Gregor & Nolan Foote

     The Florida Panthers have put two players on the waiver wire. They are forwards Noah Gregor and Nolan Foote. Both had to be placed on waivers before they can be seen to minors and play for the Panthers AHL franchise Charlotte prior to the start of the Calder Cup Playoffs.
     Gregor joined the Panthers for the 2025-26 campaign and had nine points in 37 games. Foote had one goal and one point in 12 contests with the Panthers this season.

Marc James Exits KJR-FM

     Former South Florida radio sportscaster Marc James has been let go by KJR-FM in Seattle due to budget cuts. He was the midday host at that station since February 2025. 
     James previously went by the name Marc Benarzyk and started his broadcasting career in Springfield, Massachusetts as a radio on-air talent. He joined 1400 The Fan WFLL-AM in Fort Lauderdale in April 2004 as a midday host. James was later shifted to afternoon host and then moved to morning host in early 2006. He was released by that organization in May 2006. 
     He co-hosted a nationally syndicated talk show on Sports Byline USA with Jim Grieshaber and co-hosted an afternoon sports show on Sirius Radio. James then landed at WHBQ-AM in Memphis as a midday co-host. 
     James. a University of Miami grad, moved to Tampa in April 2008 where he hosted an afternoon program on WHBO-AM until August 2010. He joined WFNZ-AM in Charlotte in early 2011 and co-hosted an afternoon show with Taylor Zanzour. James became the solo afternoon host, after Zanzour left for SiriusXM Radio, from December 2013 to May 2014. 
     He shifted to Atlanta and became the afternoon co-host on WZGC-FM in June 2014. James was eventually elevated to morning host and stayed there until September 2015. 
     James went into television and joined NESN as a sports anchor in May 2017. He began as a fill-in co-host on WEEI-FM in early 2018 and was named as a Saturday midday co-host in September 2018. James returned to Tampa in 2020 and worked as a sports host and sports reporter at WWBA-AM until early 2025. 

Panthers Win Season Finale

     The Florida Panthers played their regular season finale at Amerant Bank Arena on Wednesday night and rose above the Detroit Red Wings 8-1. The contest finished the Panthers 2025-26 season where they entered as the two-time reigning Stanley Cup champions. The Cats will not make the postseason for the first time since 2018-19. 
     Detroit Red Wings radio analyst Paul Woods announced his final NHL game of his 41-year professional broadcasting career. He joined the Red Wings as their radio analyst prior to the 1985-86 campaign. 
     Florida(40-38-4), who are the defending three-time Eastern Conference champions, took a 1-0 lead at the 4:57 mark of the first period. Vinnie Hinostroza snapped a shot from the right wing past John Gibson for his sixth goal this year. Wilmer Skoog collected his first NHL assist and first NHL point of his career on the play. 
     In the second period, the Cats increased it to 2-0 at 5:37. Luke Kunin picked up his third goal of the campaign on a snap shot from the inner right circle. 
     The Panthers converted with the man advantage at 8:56 of the second for a 3-0 lead. A.J. Greer scored his 17th goal of the season on a wraparound shot. 
     It would become 4-0 for Florida at 9:39 of the frame. Mike Benning collected his first NHL goal of his career on a forehand shot from the high slot. It went off the back wall and bounced off the back of Gibson before falling into the cage. 
     The Panthers made it a five-goal margin 5-0 with 7:19 remaining in the second. Benning chalked chalked up his second tally of the game when he snapped a shot from the low right circle. 
     Detroit(41-31-10), who missed the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the league-leading 10th consecutive season, broke the shutout with 3:48 left in the period. Justin Faulk added his 16th goal this season on a wrist shot. 
     The Cats added on to their lead during the third period with three goals and made it 8-1. Cole Schwindt scored his fifth goal on a deflected goal from the top of the crease at 8:56. Cole Reinhardt picked up his ninth goal of the year at 9:37 on a snap shot from the crease area. Kunin placed in his second goal of the contest with 1:48 to go in the third on a forehand shot. 

Braves Handle Marlins

     The Atlanta Braves scooted by the Miami Marlins 6-3 at Truist Park on Wednesday night. The Marlins completed a six-game road trip.
     It was Jackie Robinson Day throughout Major League Baseball. All players, managers and coaches wore the number 42 on their jerseys and their caps. 
     Atlanta(12-7) jumped to a 2-0 advantage in the bottom of the second. Ozzie Albies smacked a solo homer to right field on the first pitch. Three batters later, Mauricio Dubon drove in Mike Yastrzemski with a base hit into left field. 
     It became 3-0 for the Bravos in the sixth inning. Austin Riley lifted a solo home run to left-center field on a 0-0 count. 
     The Braves pushed their lead to 6-0 in the bottom of the seventh. Drake Baldwin singled through the right side and Ronald Acuna Jr. scored. Matt Olson followed with a two-run homer to right field on the first pitch scoring Baldwin. 
     Miami(9-10) got on the scoreboard to break the shutout in the top of the eighth and made it 6-3. Liam Hicks blasted a two-run homer to right field on the first pitch with Otto Lopez on base. Connor Norby would later score on a fielding error by Dubon on a double-play attempt.

South Florida Winter Pro Teams End Early

     The Florida Panthers and the Miami Heat will not participate beyond the month of April this year. Neither one of the two teams will be playing in the postseason in the month of May for the first time since 2019. It could be technically six years for both clubs because the COVID-19 pandemic postponed the postseason in the NHL and the NBA until August 2020.
     The Panthers had their two-time Stanley Cup championship reign end earlier this month and they did not reach the 2026 Stanley Cup Playoffs. The Heat were eliminated in the first contest of the NBA Play-In Tournament versus the Charlotte Hornets and did not advance to the NBA Playoffs. 

Hornets Eliminate Heat

     The 10th-seeded Miami Heat had their 2025-26 season ended on Tuesday night as they lost to the ninth-seeded Charlotte Hornets 127-126 in overtime in the NBA Play-In Tournament at Spectrum Center. The Hornets advanced to the next play-in game to be played on Friday in either Orlando or Philadelphia. 
     The Heat were involved in the NBA Play-In Tournament for the fourth consecutive season. They are the only franchise to participate every year in the NBA Play-In Tournament during its four-season concept. Both South Florida winter professional sports teams the Miami Heat and the Florida Panthers will not be playing postseason games in the month of May for the first time since 2019.  
     Charlotte was able to get out in front 26-24 at the end of the first quarter. Miami was in striking distance throughout the second quarter and were ahead 54-52 at halftime. 
     The Hornets scored 10 straight points on their way to a 14-4 spurt at the the third quarter and had a 89-83 advantage at the conclusion of the frame. The Heat went on a 14-4 run to begin the final quarter and both teams were tied 114-114 at the end of regulation. 
     Charlotte had a 9-4 spurt to start overtime and led 123-118 with 1:33 left. The Heat overcame a five-point deficit down the stretch with a Tyler Herro three-point shot from the right corner, a LaMelo Ball turnover at midcourt and three free throws made by Herro to make it 126-125 with 8.7 seconds to go. Ball drove in with a layup down the right side of the lane with 4.7 seconds remaining in overtime to give the Hornets a 127-126 lead. 
     Andrew Wiggins placed in 27 points for Miami and Davion Mitchell added a team-high 28 points. Herro poured in 23 points while Kel'el Ware had 12 points and 19 rebounds for a double-double. Jaime Jaquez Jr. finished up with 13 points and Norman Powell drained in 11 points. 
     Ball led the Hornets with a double-double of 30 points and 10 assists. Miles Bridges fell short of a double-double with 28 points and nine rebounds. Coby White answered with 19 points and Brandon Miller contributed 23 points in the win. 

Braves Squeak By Marlins

     The Atlanta Braves overcame the Miami Marlins 6-5 on Tuesday night at Truist Park. The Marlins will conclude their six-game road trip tomorrow. The Fish do not have a winning record for the first time in the 2026 season. 
     Miami(9-9) picked up one run in the first inning and three runs in the top of the second for a 4-0 lead. Agustin Ramirez opened the scoring with a sacrifice fly to right field and Jakob Marsee crossed the plate. 
     Atlanta(11-7) came back with three runs in the bottom of the eighth to take the lead 6-5. Dominic Smith doubled into left-center field for Drake Baldwin, Mike Yastrzemski and Ozzie Albies to score.

Panthers Squeeze By Rangers

      The Florida Panthers edged the New York Rangers 3-2 at Amerant Bank Arena on Monday night. Both teams have two of the three worst records in the Eastern Conference. The Panthers will conclude the 2025-26 campaign with their regular season finale on Wednesday against the Detroit Red Wings. 
     Rangers goalie Jonathan Quick played in his final NHL game of his 19-season career. He captured two Stanley Cup titles with the Los Angeles Kings in 2012 and 2014. Quick had 410 career wins, 65 shutouts and a 2.51 goals-against-average in 829 games. He is the NHL all-time leader among United States-born goalies in wins and shutouts. 
     Florida(38-38-4) broke out to a 1-0 lead at the 9:35 mark of the first period. Cole Reinhardt put in a rebound shot from the top of the crease past Quick for his seventh goal of the year. Tobias Bjornfot and Vinnie Hinostroza both had assists on the play. 
     The Panthers extended their lead to 2-0 with 9:29 remaining in the first. Mackie Samoskevich went on a breakaway and snapped a shot from the low slot for his 12th goal of the campaign.
     New York(33-39-9) closed it to 2-1 with 4:41 to go in the opening period. Matthew Robertson got his sixth goal this year on a wrist shot from the left point by Daniil Tarasov.
     The Rangers tied it up 2-2 with 2:40 left in the second. Adam Fox took a shot from the high slot and Gabe Perreault deflected it in from the left side of the crease for his 11th goal in 2025-26.
     In the third period, the Cats moved ahead 3-2 with 1:50 remaining. Reinhardt picked up his second tally of the contest and eighth goal of the season on a forehand shot from the left circle. 

Marlins Outscore Braves

     The Miami Marlins outlasted the Atlanta Braves 10-4 at Truist Park on Monday night. The Marlins snapped a three-game losing streak.  
     Braves first baseman Matt Olson started in his 799th consecutive game. He passed Nellie Fox for 11th place all-time in MLB history in consecutive games started. 
     Miami(9-8) scooted out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the fourth. Liam Hicks hit a sacrifice fly to right field and Jakob Marsee crossed the plate. Otto Lopez followed with a single through the left side to score Xavier Edwards. Two batters later, Connor Norby singled through the right side and Agustin Ramirez scored. 
     Atlanta(10-7) got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the fourth with three runs to even it up 3-3. Austin Riley knocked in Drake Baldwin with a base hit into left field. Mike Yastrzemski came up next and singled through the right side which brought in Olson. Two batters later, Dominic Smith connected with a sacrifice fly to right field and Riley reached home. 
     The Marlins answered back with three runs in the top of the fifth for a 6-3 advantage. Ramirez pounded a 0-1 pitch over the left-center field wall for his first home run of the season. Graham Pauley and Edwards scored in front of him on the play. 
     The Braves responded with one run during the bottom of the fifth and they trailed 6-4. Riley grounded out to second and Ronald Acuna Jr. raced home. 
     In the sixth inning, the Fish made it 9-4 with another three runs. Norby smacked a solo home run to left field on the first pitch. Five batters later, Heriberto Hernandez scored on an infield hit on the left side by Ramirez. Hicks then had an infield hit to second for Marsee to score.

Tigers Sweep Marlins

     The Detroit Tigers blitzed the Miami Marlins 8-2 on Sunday at Comerica Park for a three-game series sweep. The Marlins will visit the Atlanta Braves for their next series. Tigers starting pitcher Tarik Skubal threw a no-hitter through five innings. 
     Detroit(7-9) jumped on Marlins starting pitcher Sandy Alcantara with three runs in the bottom of the first for a 3-0 lead. Dillon Dingler smashed a three-run homer to left field on a 0-2 pitch with Colt Keith and Riley Greene aboard.
      The Tigers expanded their lead to 4-0 in the fifth inning. Kevin McGonigle lifted a solo home run to right-center field on the first pitch. It was McGonigle's first home run in the majors. 
      It became 6-0 for Detroit in the bottom of the sixth. Kerry Carpenter golfed a two-run homer to right field on a 1-2 pitch. Greene scored in front of him on the play. Three batters later, the Tigers made it 7-0. Javier Baez knocked in Spencer Torkelson with a base hit into center field
     Miami(8-8) chalked up one run in the top of the seventh and it was 7-1. Otto Lopez hit a sacrifice fly into the right-field corner and Jakob Marsee crossed the plate. In the eighth inning, Detroit increased their lead to 8-1. McGonigle scored on a wild pitch.
     The Marlins got one run in the top of the ninth and closed it to 8-2. Lopez hammered a solo home run to left field on a 1-1 count.

Heat Wins Regular Season Finale

     The Miami Heat were victorious in their home finale 143-117 over the Atlanta Hawks at Kaseya Center on Sunday night. It was the final game for both teams during the 2025-26 regular season. 
     The Heat are the 10th seed in the Eastern Conference. They will visit the ninth-seeded Charlotte Hornets in the NBA Play-In Tournament on Tuesday. 
     Miami(43-39) raced out to a 33-24 lead by the conclusion of the first quarter. Atlanta(46-36) kept up with the pace during the second quarter and trailed 66-57 at halftime. 
     The Heat increased their lead to 95-80 at the end of the third quarter. They outscored the Hawks 44-33 in the final quarter. 
     Bam Adebayo composed a double-double of 25 points and 10 rebounds for Miami. Jaime Jaquez Jr. finished with a team-high 26 points while Norman Powell drained in 25 points. Kel'el Ware provided 16 points and seven rebounds in the win. 
     Atlanta was led by Buddy Hield who scored a game-high 31 points coming off the bench. Asa Newell ended up with 17 points and 11 rebounds for a double-double. Corey Kispert was able to contribute 21 points.

Inter Miami CF Tie New York Red Bulls

     Inter Miami CF and New York Red Bulls ended up with a 2-2 tie at Nu Stadium in Miami on Saturday night. It was the second game ever played at the Herons new venue. Inter Miami CF have a 1-0-5 record in their last six games among all competitions. 
     New York(3-1-3) leaped to a 1-0 lead in the 15th minute. Jorge Ruvalcaba picked up the tally for the Red Bulls with a right-footed shot from 14 yards out. 
     Inter Miami CF(3-1-3) tied it up 1-1 during stoppage time at the conclusion of the first half. Mateo Silvetti received a crossing pass and was able to score on half-volley shot with his right foot from seven yards. 
     The Herons moved out to their first lead of the contest 2-1 in the 55th minute. Lionel Messi angled a pass from just above of the penalty area. Germain Berterame put in the a right-footed goal from 12 yards away. 
     The Red Bulls answered back during the 77th minute. They evened it up 2-2 on a goal by Adri Mehmeti with his sliding right-footed shot from three yards out. 

Panthers Puncture Maple Leafs

     The Florida Panthers dropped the Toronto Maple Leafs 6-2 at Scotiabank Arena on Saturday night. It was the Panthers final regular season road game of the 2025-26 season. 
     Both teams have two of the three worst records in the Eastern Conference. Panthers center Wilmer Skoog made his NHL debut. 
     Florida(38-38-4) rocketed out to a 1-0 lead just 23 seconds into the opening frame. Eetu Luostarinen chalked up his 11th goal this season on a wrist shot from the right goal line. 
     The Cats increased it to 2-0 at the 5:32 mark of the first. Cole Reinhardt backhanded a shot from the blue paint for his sixth goal of the year. 
     In the second period, the Panthers expanded their lead to 3-0 at 1:32. Tomas Nosek released a wrist shot from the high slot past Joseph Woll for his first goal in 2025-26. 
     Toronto(32-34-14) tried to get back into the contest midway through the second and cut it to 3-2. William Nylander scored a power-play goal with a forehand shot from the high slot by Daniil Tarasov with 9:05 remaining and he found the net on a snap shot from the slot with 6:44 left for his 27th and 28th goals of the season. 
     In the final period, Florida made it to 4-2 at the 4:13 mark. Mackie Samoskevich snapped a shot from the slot area for his 11th goal this season. 
     The Panthers added empty-net goals late in the third period for a 6-2 advantage. A.J. Greer collected his 16th goal of the campaign with 4:04 to go. Nosek followed with his second tally of the game and of the season. 

Tigers Eat Up Marlins

     The Detroit Tigers covered the Miami Marlins 6-1 on Saturday at Comerica Park. The Marlins continued their six-game road trip. 
     Detroit(6-9) broke out to a 2-0 left in the bottom of the first. Colt Keith started things with a double down the left-field line to score Kevin McGonigle. Two batter later, Riley Greene drove in Keith on a base hit into right field. 
     The Tigers added three more runs in the third inning for a 5-0 advantage. Greene connected with a three-run homer to right field on a 2-2 pitch. McGonigle and Dillon Dingler scored in front of him on the play. 
     Miami(8-7) got on the scoreboard during the top of the fourth with one run. Connor Norby knocked in Liam Hicks with a sacrifice fly to right field. 
     In the eighth inning, Detroit made it 6-1. Spencer Torkelson drove in Greene on a single into shallow center field.

Sam Bennett King Clancy Award Nominee

     Florida Panthers center Sam Bennett has been nominated for the King Clancy Memorial Trophy. He was one of 32 NHL players to be a nominee by their teammates. 
     The trophy goes to the NHL player who shows leadership on the ice and off the ice along with humanitarian aspects toward their communities. The King Clancy Memorial Trophy will be decided by NHL commissioner Gary Bettman, previous King Clancy Memorial Trophy and NHL Foundation Player award winners. 

Mark Jones Exiting ESPN

     Former Miami Heat television personality Mark Jones is finishing his tenure at ESPN. His final assignment with the company is expected to be play-by-play announcing of an NBA contest on Sunday. 
     Jones joined ESPN back in 1990 as a sports anchor coming from The Sports Network in Canada. He has worked as a play-by-play announcer on college football, college basketball, NBA, WNBA and UFL games. 
     He was the Miami Heat television studio host for three seasons from 2000-01 to 2002-03 on Sunshine Network, WBFS-TV Channel 33 and WFOR-TV Channel 4. Jones has been the television play-by-play announcer of the Sacramento Kings on NBC Sports California since the 2020-21 season. 

Tigers Blank Marlins

     The Detroit Tigers shut out the Miami Marlins 2-0 at Comerica Park on Friday night. Miami(8-6) began a six-game road trip. 
     Detroit(5-9) jumped to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second. Spencer Torkelson singled into left field to score Dillion Dingler. 
     The Tigers expanded their lead to 2-0 in the fifth inning. Javier Baez walloped a solo home run to left field on a 2-2 pitch. 

Heat Can Wizards In Road Finale

     The Miami Heat whipped the Washington Wizards 140-117 at Capital One Center on Friday night. It was the final regular season road game for the Heat in 2025-26. Miami will participate in their home finale on Sunday versus the Atlanta Hawks. 
     The Heat finished a winning record this season with the victory tonight. They completed a three-game road swing. 
     Miami(42-39) had a 34-23 lead at the end of the first quarter. The Heat extended their lead to 72-52 by halftime. 
     Washington(17-64) was still down by 20 points 105-85 after three quarters. Both teams put in their reserve players midway in the fourth quarter.
     Bam Adebayo ended up with a double-double of 20 points, 11 rebounds and eight assists. Jaime Jaquez Jr. drained in 23 points while Simone Fontecchio powered in 24 points. 
     The Wizards were led by Bub Carrington with a game-high 30 points. Bilal Coulibaly was able to score 25 points.

Katie Engleson Theory Stopped

     Three years ago, our organization came up with the concept of the Katie Engleson Theory. She has been associated with teams through a portion of her life where they went beyond the regular season and past the first two rounds of a playoff tournament. Teams have won championships, finished in the championship round or reached the tournament semifinals. 
     The Katie Engleson Theory finally ended with the Florida Panthers not making the 2026 Stanley Cup Playoffs. She joined the organization as a television sideline reporter in September 2022. The Panthers captured two Stanley Cup titles and three Eastern Conference champions along with three Stanley Cup Final appearances in her first three seasons at the post. 
     Engleson, a Parkland native, was a baton twirler at high school football games while attending St. Thomas Aquinas High School in Fort Lauderdale. The Raiders football team had great success in her four years associated with the program. St. Thomas Aquinas won two FHSAA Class 5A state titles and two national championships in 2008 and 2010. They reached the FHSAA Class 5A state semifinals in 2009 and fell to Manatee Hurricanes on the road. STA got past the first two rounds of the 2011 FHSAA Class 7A state playoffs and lost in the third round at the Dwyer Panthers. 
     She went to college at the University of Alabama. Engleson performed as a baton twirler at Alabama college football contests. The Crimson Tide won the BCS National Championship in 2012 and the CFP National Championship in 2015. Alabama reached the Sugar Bowl in 2013 and 2014 losing both times. The second occasion was in a BCS national semifinal game against the Ohio State Buckeyes.

Anthony Rizzo Joins NBC Sports

     Former Broward County high school baseball player Anthony Rizzo has joined NBC Sports and Peacock as a baseball analyst. He announced his retirement from Major League Baseball in September 2025. 
     Rizzo participated in high school baseball with the Marjory Stoneman Douglas Eagles. He was selected in the sixth round of the 2007 MLB Draft. Rizzo was traded to the San Diego Padres in December 2010. 
     After a one-year stint with the Padres in 2011, he was dealt to the Chicago Cubs. Rizzo with was the Cubs from 2012 until 2021. He helped Chicago win their first World Series in 108 years during 2016.
     He was acquired by the New York Yankees in July 2021 and played there from 2021 to 2024. Rizzo contributed to the Yankees capturing their first American League pennant after a 15-year drought in 2024. 

Senators Vote Out Panthers

     The Florida Panthers were outhustled by the Ottawa Senators 5-1 at Canadian Tire Centre on Thursday night. The Panthers will play their final road game on Saturday against the Toronto Maple Leafs. Panthers defensemen Marek Alscher and Ludvig Jansson made their NHL debuts tonight. 
     Ottawa(42-27-10) pushed out to a 1-0 lead with the man advantage at the 6:49 mark of the first period. Jake Sanderson shot the puck and Drake Batherson deflected it in from the crease area for his 33nd goal of the season.
     The Sens increased their lead to 2-0 with 3:00 remaining in the first. Fabian Zetterlund collected his 15th goal of the campaign on a wrist shot from the low right circle. 
     It became 3-0 for the Senators at 3:03 of the third period. Artem Zub snapped a shot from the right circle for his fifth tally of the year.
     Florida(37-38-4) cut the deficit to 3-1 with 5:43 left in the third. Jesper Boqvist chalked up his fourth goal in 2025-26 on a forehand shot from the slot area. 
     Former Panthers player Claude Giroux placed in an empty-net tally for his 14th goal this year with 3:17 to go in the period. Zetterlund would later get his second goal of the game and 16th goal this season with 2:58 remaining in the third to make it 5-1. 

     

Raptors Pour On Heat

     The Toronto Raptors breezed by the Miami Heat 128-114 at Scotiabank Arena on Thursday night. It was the second straight contest both teams met at the same venue. 
     Toronto(45-35) busted out to a 32-26 lead by the end of the first quarter. The Raptors expanded in the second quarter and led 69-50 at halftime.
     Miami(41-39)) cut into the lead and they were down 102-90 at the conclusion of the third quarter. Toronto held on during the final quarter.
     Bam Adebayo led the Heat with a club-high 24 points, 11 rebounds and eight assists for a double-double. Tyler Herro, Davion Mitchell and Jaime Jaquez Jr. had 15 points each. 
     Brandon Ingram dropped in a game-high 38 points for the Raptors. R.J. Barrett was able to contribute 22 points. 

Marlins Roll By Reds

     The Miami Marlins sailed by the Cincinnati Reds 8-1 on Thursday at loanDepot park. The Marlins finished off a four-game homestand and will visit the Detroit Tigers for the start of a three-game series tomorrow. 
     Miami(8-5) rushed to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Agustin Ramirez grounded into a fielder's choice to third. Eugenio Suarez made a fielding error and Xavier Edwards reached home. 
     It became 4-1 for the Marlins with three runs during the bottom of the fourth. Owen Caissie double to the left-field warning track for Liam Hicks and Otto Lopez to score. Two batters later, Javier Sanoja drove in Caissie with a base hit into right field. 
     Cincinnati(8-5) closed it to 4-1 in the top of the fifth. Westminster Christian School grad Sal Stewart powered a solo home run to right-center field on a 1-2 pitch. 
     The Fish expanded their lead to 5-1 in the sixth inning. Sanoja singled into center field and Caissie scored. 
     Miami extended it to 6-1 in the bottom of the seventh. Caissie knocked in Ramirez on a single into center field.
     The Marlins added two more runs in the eighth inning for an 8-2 lead. Ramirez singled up the middle for Graham Pauley and Jakob Marsee to touch home.

Brad Marchand Bill Masterton Trophy Nominee

     Florida Panthers center Brad Marchand has been nominated for the Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy along with 31 other National Hockey League players. He was named the Panthers nominee by the Professional Hockey Writers Association South Florida chapter. 
     The award goes to an NHL player who shows sportsmanship, perseverance and dedication to the sport of hockey. Jaromir Jagr won the Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy for the 2015-16 season while with the Panthers. 

Marlins Handle Reds

     The Miami Marlins held off the Cincinnati Reds 7-4 at loanDepot park on Wednesday night. The Marlins will complete their homestand and four-game set against the Reds tomorrow. The Reds had their five-game winning streak snapped. 

Marlins Let Go Daniel Johnson

     The Miami Marlins have released outfielder Daniel Johnson. He signed a minor league contract with the club during the offseason and did not make the majors with that squad. 
     Johnson has participated in four seasons in Major League Baseball. He was with the Cleveland Guardians in 2020 and 2021 along with the Baltimore Orioles in 2024. Johnson split his time last season with the San Francisco Giants and the Orioles.

Canadiens Match Panthers

     The Montreal Canadiens beat the Florida Panthers 4-3 in a shootout at Bell Centre on Tuesday night. The Panthers lost their third straight game and are in the middle of a five-game road swing. It was the first time in 2025-26 that the Cats lost in overtime or a shootout on the road. 
     Florida(37-37-4) took a 1-0 lead at the 9:25 mark of the first period. Carter Verhaeghe got to a rebound and snapped a shot from the left circle for his 25th goal of the season. It was the third time in his NHL career that Verhaeghe has reached the 25-goal plateau. 
     Montreal(46-22-10) evened it up 1-1 on the man advantage 54 seconds into the second period. Cole Caufield zipped a cross-ice pass from the left wing and Ivan Demidov one-timed a slap shot from the top right circle past Daniil Tarasov for his 18th goal of the campaign. 
     The Panthers regained the lead 2-1 with 6:17 remaining in the second. Luke Kunin made an outlet pass from his own zone and Cole Reinhardt pushed the puck ahead from the neutral zone. He eventually put in his fifth goal of the year on a forehand shot from the left side of the crease by Jakub Dobes.
     In the third period, the Habs tied it 2-2 at 6:22 on a delayed penalty. Phillip Danault chalked up his sixth goal this season when he snapped a shot from the slot area. 
     The Cats moved ahead 3-2 at the 7:49 mark of the third period. Gustav Forsling released a shot from the left point and Eetu Luostarinen redirected it from the low slot for his 10th goal in 2025-26. 
     The Canadiens pulled their goalie for an extra attacker with under two minutes to go. They scored with 20.1 seconds left in the third to tie it up 3-3. Nick Suzuki collected his 28th goal of the season on a a snap shot from close range. 
     In the shootout, the Habs picked up the victory. Caufield scored on their first attempt and Alexandre Texier converted on their second attempt. The Panthers fell to 5-2 in shootouts this season while the Canadiens improved to 4-5. 

Reds Drive By Marlins

     The Miami Marlins were overcome by the Cincinnati Reds 6-3 on Tuesday night at loanDepot park. The Marlins continued their four-game homestand. The Reds extended their winning streak to five games, which matched their season-high from last season. 
     Marlins starting pitcher Sandy Alcantara pitched a shutout through 8 1/3 innings tonight. He was credited with an earned run after he was replaced on the mound. Alcantara finished with a third-hit, complete game shutout during his first start on opening day.
     Miami(6-5) had a 2-0 advantage in the bottom of the fourth. Otto Lopez grounded out to second for Agustin Ramirez to score. Heriberto Hernandez followed with a ground out to third and Jakob Marsee crossed the plate. 
     Cincinnati(8-3) broke up the shutout in the top of the ninth inning and tied it up 2-2. Sal Stewart hit a sacrifice fly to right field and Matt McLain scored. Marlins relief pitcher Anthony Bender threw a wild pitch two batters later and Elly De La Cruz reached home. 
     The Reds compiled four runs during the top of the 10th and led 6-2. Nathaniel Lowe drove in Spencer Steer on a base hit into left-center field for their first lead in the contest. Two batter later, McLain doubled off the left-field wall with the bases loaded which brought in Stephenson and Dane Myers. T.J. Friedl would then score on a ground out to third by De La Cruz to make it 6-2. 
     The Marlins could just muster one run in the bottom of the 10th. Graham Pauley grounded into a force out for Marsee to score. 

Raptors Knock Off Heat

     The Toronto Raptors downed the Miami Heat 121-95 at Scotiabank Arena on Tuesday night. It was the first of two straight games between both teams at the same venue in Toronto. 
     The Heat now know that they will participate in the NBA Play-In Tournament next week. It will be the fourth consecutive season that the Heat will be involved. 
     Toronto(44-35) ran out to a 32-27 advantage by the end of the first quarter. The Raptors remained in front 64-51 at halftime. 
     Miami(41-38) kept up the pace for most of the third quarter, however they were down 94-76 at the end of the frame. Toronto came out with a 6-2 spurt to begin the fourth quarter. 
     Andrew Wiggins led Miami with a team-high 24 points. Tyler Herro was able to contribute 14 points while Norman Powell scored 14 points.
     Scottie Barnes dropped in 25 points along with eight rebounds for the Raptors. Brandon Ingram placed in 23 points and R.J. Barrett finished with 16 points in the victory.

Dusty May Wins National Championship

     Former Florida Atlantic University men's basketball head coach Dusty May guided the University of Michigan Wolverines to the 2026 NCAA Division 1 National Championship with a 69-63 victory over the University of Connecticut Huskies on Monday night. May accomplished it during his second season with the school. 
     It was the second men's basketball national title for Michigan. They captured the national championship back in 1989 when one-time Miami Heat guard Glen Rice led the team. It was the first national title won by a Big Ten Conference school in 25 years. 
     May was the FAU head coach of the Owls from 2018-19 to 2023-24. He coached them in 2023 to the first appearance ever in the NCAA Final Four. 

Devils Fire Tom Fitzgerald

     The New Jersey Devils have fired general manager Tom Fitzgerald. He joined that organization as an assistant general manager in July 2015. Fitzgerald was elevated to general manager of the club in July 2020. 
     Fitzgerald was a center with the Florida Panthers during his playing days. He was with the Panthers from their inaugural season in 1993-94 until late in the 1997-98 campaign. Fitzgerald had 121 points in 353 games while with Florida. 

Reds Shut Out Marlins

     The Cincinnati Reds blanked the Miami Marlins 2-0 on Monday night at loanDepot park. The Marlins, who were held to just three hits, began a short four-game homestand. The Reds extended their winning streak to four games. 
     Cincinnati(7-3) had a 1-0 lead in the top of the fourth. Westminster Christian School grad Sal Stewart singled up the middle for Elly De La Cruz to score. 
     Miami(6-4) gave up another run during the eighth inning and the Reds led 2-0. Tyler Stephenson lifted a solo home run to left field on a 2-2 pitch.

Islanders Hire Peter DeBoer

     The New York Islanders have hired former Florida Panthers head coach Peter DeBoer as their new head coach. He replaces Patrick Roy, who was fired by the club. DeBoer has coached in five of the past six Stanley Cup Semifinals. 
     The Islanders have four game remaining in the regular season which makes the move unusual. The Isles are one point behind for third place in the Metropolitan Division and for the Eastern Conference second wild-card spot. 
     DeBoer got his first NHL head coaching job with the Florida Panthers. He was with the team for three seasons from 2008-09 to 2010-11. 
     He joined the New Jersey Devils as their head coach in 2011-12 and guided them to an Eastern Conference title during his first season. They defeated the Panthers in a first-round, seven-game series. He remained there until the middle of the 2014-15 campaign. 
     DeBoer was named the head coach of the San Jose Sharks in 2015-16. They were able to capture the Western Conference championship that season. He was let go by them in the midway point of the 2019-20 season. 
     He was hired as the Vegas Golden Knights head coach one month later. DeBoer led them to consecutive Stanley Cup Semifinals appearance. 
     His most recent stop was with the Dallas Stars from 2022-23 until 2024-25. DeBoer's team reached the Western Conference Finals three consecutive seasons while he was at the helm. 

Penguins Beat Panthers Again

     The Florida Panthers fell to the Pittsburgh Penguins 5-2 on Sunday at PPG Paints Arena. It was the second straight day both teams challenged each other in the same venue in Pittsburgh. 
     The Panthers were eliminated from postseason contention yesterday. They had their two-time Stanley Cup championship reign ended along with their team-record streak of six straight consecutive postseason appearances. 
     In the first period, Pittsburgh(40-22-16) scooted out to a 1-0 lead at the 11:00 mark of the first period. A Daniil Tarasov clearing pass was intercepted by Elmer Soderblom. He put in a wrist shot from the low left circle into an open net for his sixth goal in 2025-26. 
     Florida (37-37-3) tied it up 1-1 with 3:45 to go in the opening frame. Cole Schwindt scored his fourth goal of the year on a wrist shot from the top left circle. Vinnie Hinostroza and Gustav Forsling were credited with assists on the sequence. 
    The Pens regained the lead 2-1 with 3:10 remaining in the first. Sidney Crosby snapped shot from the left-circle dot for his 29th goal of the season. It was Crosby's 654th career goal in the NHL. He also will finish with his 21st straight NHL campaign with one point-per-game in a season. 
     It became 3-1 for the Penguins on the power play with 48 seconds left in the period. Rickard Rakell scored his 23rd goal of the campaign on a snap shot from the high slot.
     Pittsburgh extended their lead to 4-1 with 1:52 remaining in the second period. Rakell collected his second tally of the game and 24th goal this season on a forehand shot from the low slot. 
     The Penguins made it 5-1 at 3:48 of the third period. Bryan Rust was able to score on a backhand shot from the top of the crease for his 28th goal of the season. 
     The Panthers scored with the man advantage with 5:45 left in the third period. Seth Jones fed a pass and Carter Verhaeghe chalked up his 24th goal in 2025-26 on a wrist shot. 

Marlins Edge Yankees

     The Miami Marlins prevented a three-game sweep by the New York Yankees with a 7-6 victory at Yankee Stadium on Sunday. The Marlins return home to take on the Cincinnati Reds tomorrow. 
     Miami(6-3) broke out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first. Otto Lopez singled up the middle and Austin Slater crossed the plate. 
     New York(7-2) leaped ahead 3-1 in the bottom of the first. Ben Rice belted a three-run homer to right field on a 2-1 pitch. Trent Grisham and Aaron Judge scored in front of him on the play. 
     The Yankees made it 4-1 in the third inning. Judge reached home because of a catching error by Otto Lopez at second base on an attempted double play. 
     The Fish added one run in the top of the fourth and they trailed 4-2. Xavier Edwards doubled into the right-field corner for Connor Norby to score. 
     The Marlins cut it to 4-3 during the sixth inning. Jose Caballero made a throwing error at short and Jakob Marsee scored. 
     Miami compiled four more runs in the top of the eighth and jumped in front 7-4. Graham Pauley knocked in Lopez on a double to the right-field wall. Edwards followed with a base hit up the middle and Griffin Conine touched home. 
     The Bronx Bombers got two runs in the bottom of the ninth and fell short 7-6. Former Marlins player Jazz Chisholm Jr. drove in Cody Bellinger and Rice on a two-out double into the right-center field gap.

Florida Panthers Title Reign Ends

     The Florida Panthers Stanley Cup title reign ended officially on Saturday night. They were eliminated from postseason contention to play in the 2026 Stanley Cup Playoffs. Florida had their string of six consecutive playoff appearances extinguished.
     The Panthers were the defending two-time Stanley Cup champions. The Cats defeated the Edmonton Oilers in the Stanley Cup Final during the past two seasons. 
     The streak of eight straight postseason series wins for Florida was also stopped. It was the third longest streak in the Stanley Cup Playoffs over the past 26 years. The Tampa Bay Lightning won 11 consecutive playoff series from 2020 to 2022 and the Pittsburgh Penguins won nine straight postseason series from 2016 to 2018.
     Florida has also won 11 of their past 12 Stanley Cup Playoff series. It ties the Lightning for most playoff series victories by a team during a three-year stretch going back to 2000. 
     Only the Panthers and Lightning have made three straight appearances in the Stanley Cup Final in the last 40 years. The New York Islanders reached the Stanley Cup Final five consecutive years from 1980 to 1984.

Inter Miami CF Ties In Nu Stadium Debut

     Inter Miami CF tied Austin FC 2-2 at their new home venue Nu Stadium in Miami on Saturday night. The Herons played their first home contest in Dade County after hosting their home games at Inter Miami CF Stadium in Fort Lauderdale since their inaugural Major League Soccer season in 2020. Nu Stadium has a seating capacity of 26,700.
     In the first half, Austin FC(1-2-3) took a 1-0 lead in the sixth minute of play. Guillermo Biro was able to score for them. 
     Inter Miami CF(3-1-2) responded back quickly to tie the contest 1-1. Lionel Messi got the goal in the 10th minute for the Herons first goal in their new stadium. He put in a header from nine yards away into the top right corner of the cage. 
     Austin FC reclaimed the lead 2-1 during the 53rd minute. Jayden Nelson went in on a breakaway and rifled a right-footed shot from 18 yards out. 
     The Herons evened the contest up 2-2 late in the second half during the 82nd minute. Luis Suarez volleyed in a left-footed shot from two yards following a corner kick. 

Yankees Outpace Marlins

     The New York Yankees outscored the Miami Marlins 9-7 at Yankee Stadium on Saturday night. The three-game series between both clubs will conclude on Sunday.
     Miami(5-3) stormed in front 2-0 in the top of the first against former Marlins starting pitcher Ryan Weathers. Heriberto Hernandez tripled to right-center field to score Agustin Ramirez and Otto Lopez.
     The Marlins added another running the second inning for a 3-0 lead. Ramirez singled into center field to score Xavier Edwards.
     It became 4-0 for the Fish in the top of the fourth. Jakob Marsee drove in Ramirez with a base hit to left field.
     New York(7-1)broke the shutout in the bottom of the fifth and closed it to 4-2. Cody Bellinger smashed a two-run homer to right-center field on a 1-1 pitch with Aaron Judge aboard.
     The Yankees moved ahead 5-4 in the sixth inning. Trent Grisham singled through the left side to score Paul Goldschmidt.  Judge then knocked in Jose Caballero with a single down the right-field line. Bellinger followed with a sacrifice fly to left field which scored Grisham.
     The Bronx Bombers increased their lead to 6-4 in the seventh inning. Giancarlo Stanton was able to score on a passed ball.
     Miami evened it up 6-6 during the top of the eighth. Javier Sanoja doubled into the left-field corner for Liam Hicks and Edwards to reach home.
     New York answered back in the bottom of the eighth with three runs for a 9-6 advantage. Stanton singled up the middle and Ryan McMahon along with Judge crossed the plate. Ben Rice later scored on a passed ball for a Yankees three-run lead.

Penguins Rout Panthers

     The Pittsburgh Penguins stomped the Florida Panthers 9-4 at PPG Paints Arena on Saturday. The Panthers are one point away from being eliminated from postseason contention and their two-time Stanley Cup championship title reign ended.
     Both teams are playing consecutive days at the same venue. They will meet in Pittsburgh again tomorrow. 
     Penguins venter and captain Sidney Crosby had two assists in the game. He passed Steve Yzerman for seventh all-time in NHL history with 1,755 points.
     Pittsburgh(39-22-16) blasted out to a 1-0 lead just 20 seconds into the contest. Former Panthers player Noel Acciari scored his 12th goal this season on a backhand shot from the left side of the crease past Sergei Bobrovsky.
     The Penguins extended their lead to 2-0 on the man advantage at 5:06 of the first. Crosby angled a pass from the low right circle and Erik Karlsson ripped a slap shot from from above the right circle for his 14th goal in 2025-26. 
     Florida(37-36-3) answered back at the 7:10 mark of the first period and cut it to 2-1. A.J.Greer scored his 15th goal of the campaign with a wrist shot from the top of the crease.
     The Panthers tied it up 2-2 with 5:29 remaining in the opening frame. Seth Jones rifled a slap shot from the right point for his seventh goal of the year.
     In the second period, the Pens reclaimed the lead 3-2 at 1:51. Anthony Mantha collected his 31st goal of the season on a forehand shot from the left wing.
     It became 4-2 for Pittsburgh on the power play at the 5:51 mark of the second. Evgeni Malkin snapped in a shot from the right side of the crease for his 1,400 NHL career point.
     The Penguins made it 5-2 at 8:27 of the period. Malkin tipped in a shot from the blue paint for his second tally of the game and 17th goal this season.
     The Pens continued with their momentum and increased to 6-2 with 10:07 to go in the second on a goal by Elmer Soderblom.
     The Panthers surrendered two more goals in a 19-second stretch late in the frame and were down 8-2. Rickard Rakell scored a power-play tally with 2:12 left and Ryan Shea got an even-strength goal with 1:53 remaining.
     Malkin completed a hat trick at the 3:30 mark of the third period for a seven-goal margin. He scored his third goal of the contest for his 14th career hat trick. 

Heat Dump Wizards

     The Miami Heat knocked off the Washington Wizards 152-136 on Saturday at Kaseya Center. The Heat will not finish with a losing record during the 2025-26 regular season.They concluded a three-game homestand. 
     Miam(41-37) had a slight 36-32 advantage after one quarter. The Heat expanded their lead to 77-57 by halftime.
     Washington(17-60) fell even more behind and trailed 122-91 at the end of the third quarter. The Wizards outscored the Heat 45-30 during the meaningless final quarter.
      Jaime Jaquez Jr. finished with a game-high 32 points for the Heat. Kel'el Ware piled up a double-double of 24 points and 19 rebounds. Bam Adebayo ended up short of a double-double with 14 points and nine rebounds. Andrew Wiggins poured in 21 and Pelle Larsson added 16 points.
       Will Riley scored a club- high 31 points for the Wizards. Sharife Cooper came off the bench with 20 points.

Miami Heat Leaving FanDuel Sports Network Sun

     The Miami Heat is expected to finish up with FanDuel Sports Network Sun in a couple of weeks. Main Street Sports, the subsidiary of all FanDuel Sports Networks in the United States, is likely to shut down operations by the end of April. 
     The last Miami Heat telecast on FanDuel Sports Network Sun will be their last regular season game this season. The agreement with the new national television rightsholders by the National Basketball Association beginning in the 2025-26 campaign was that regional sports networks could no longer televise the first round of the NBA Playoffs. 

Yankees Defeat Marlins

     The New York Yankees topped the Miami Marlins 8-2 at Yankee Stadium on Friday. It was the Yankees home opener in 2026 and the Marlins first contest on the road this season. 
     The Yankees matched their 6-1 start from two years ago when they captured the American League pennant. They once began a season 7-0 back in 1933. 
     Miami(5-2) moved out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first. Xavier Edwards powered a solo homer to right field on the first pitch.
     New York(6-1) leaped into the lead 2-1 during the bottom of the first. Aaron Judge blasted a two-run homer to left field on a 1-1 count with Trent Grisham aboard. It was the third home run for Judge this season.
     The Yankees extended their lead to 4-2 in the second inning. Grisham walked with the bases loaded and Jazz Chisholm Jr. crossed the plate. Judge came up next and was hit by a pitch for Jose Caballero to score.
     The Marlins closed it to 4-2 in the top of the fifth. Owen Caissie hammered a solo home run to right-center field on a 2-1 count for his second homer in a Marlins uniform. 
     It became 5-2 for the Bronx Bombers in the bottom of the sixth.  Austin Wells was able score on a wild pitch.
     The Yanks increased it to 6-2 in the seventh inning. Ben Rice homered over the right-field fence on a 2-1 pitch. 
     New York added two more runs in the bottom of the eighth for an 8-2 advantage. Rice doubled into center field for Judge and Cody Bellinger to score. 

Marlins Trade Garrett Acton

     The Miami Marlins have traded pitcher Garrett Acton to the Minnesota Twins for minor league pitcher Logan Whitaker. Acton was designated for assignment by the Marlins several days ago. He was picked up off waivers by the Fish from the Colorado Rockies on February 3. 
     Acton never pitched for Miami in the majors. He played with the Oakland Athletics in 2023 and the Tampa Bay Rays in 2025.

Kaiir Elam Signing With Chiefs

     Former Palm Beach County defensive back Kaiir Elam is about to sign a deal with the Kansas City Chiefs. It is expected to be a one-year contract. 
     Elam played high school football with the Benjamin Buccaneers. He later participated with the University of Florida Gators in college football. 
     He was selected 23rd overall in the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft by the Buffalo Bills and was there for three seasons. Elam split his time last year between the Dallas Cowboys and the Tennessee Titans. 

Matt Mervis Released By Nationals

      One-time Miami Marlins first baseman Matt Mervis has been let go by the Washington Nationals. He signed a minor league deal with the Nationals during the offseason.
     Mervis was with the Marlins in 2025 after being acquired from the Chicago Cubs for Vidal Brujan. He had seven home runs, 14 runs batted in and a .175 batting average in 42 games with Miami. 

Panthers Control Bruins

     The Florida Panthers pushed by the Boston Bruins 2-1 at Amerant Bank Arena on Thursday night. The Panthers completed a two-game homestand. 
     Florida(37-35-3) got out to a 1-0 lead at the 4:11 mark of the first period. Mackie Samoskevich snapped a shot from the left circle by Jeremy Swayman for his ninth tally of the campaign.
     The Panthers increased it to 2-0 at 7:39 of the opening frame. Sam Bennett released a forehand shot from the slot area for his 26th goal of the season. A.J. Greer and Seth Jones were credited with assists on the play.
     Boston(43-25-8) cut it to 2-1 with 27 seconds remaining in the first. Fraser Minten chalked up his17th goal in 2025-26 when he tapped in a shot from the right side of the crease past Sergei Bobrovsky.

2026 Miami Marlins Television Broadcasters

     Marlins television broadcasts in 2026 are now on Marlins TV and WFOR-TV Channel 4 in Miami. The telecasts spent the past two seasons with FanDuel Sports Network Florida. They were on the previous brand Bally Sports Florida before that. 
     Kyle Sielaff returns for his second season as the Marlins television play-by-play announcer. Tommy Hutton will work his final season as the Marlins television game analyst. 
     Craig Minervini is the primary studio host for Marlins games. Jeff Nelson will split his time as the studio analyst and game analyst on team broadcasts. Craig Mish will be a backup studio host. 
     Kelly Sacco handles the sideline reporter position. She continues her duties as a sideline reporter for Miami Heat contests on FanDuel Sports Network Sun. Jeremy Tache will also be a Marlins sideline reporter. Gaby Sanchez will be used as a backup game analyst. 
     Rod Allen was the only broadcaster who did not return to the telecasts from last year. He was shifted from television broadcasts to radio game analyst prior to the start of the 2026 campaign. 

Miami Marlins On WFOR-TV & WBFS-TV

     The Miami Marlins have announced that some of their game broadcasts will be on WFOR-TV Channel 4 and WBFS-TV Channel 33 during the 2026 regular season. The first Marlins telecasts on WFOR-TV will be on Friday when Miami visits the New York Yankees. 
     The Marlins franchise has previously been on South Florida non-regional sports networks in the past. It included a run on WBFS-TV Channel 33 from 1993 to 1998, WAMI-TV Channel 69 from 1999 to 2001 and WPXM-TV from 2002 to 2005. 

Marlins Wipe Out White Sox

     Marlins pitcher Sandy Alcantara pitched a three-hit complete game shutout as the Miami Marlins mauled the Chicago White Sox 10-0 on Wednesday at loanDepot park. The Marlins completed their opening homestand of the 2026 regular season with a 5-1 record. 
     Alcantara chalked up his 13rd complete game and fifth shutout in his Major League Baseball career. It was his first complete game pitched since August 12, 2023 versus the New York Yankees. He is third all-time in Marlins team history with 13 complete games behind Dontrelle Willis and A.J. Burnett. 
     The Marlins will visit Yankee Stadium to face the New York Yankees in their home opener on Friday. The White Sox will have their home opener tomorrow against the American League champions the Toronto Blue Jays. 
     The Fish have won five of their first six games to start a regular season for the sixth time in franchise history. The previous time they did it was in 2020. 
     Miami(5-1) leaped out to a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Liam Hicks singled into shallow center field and Jakob Marsee scored. Connor Norby came up next and knocked in Otto Lopez with a double to right field. Owen Caissie followed with a single through the left side to score Hicks and Norby.
     It became 6-0 for the Marlins in the second inning when Hicks blasted a two-run homer to right field on a 3-1 pitch for his third home run of the season. Xavier Edwards scored in front of him on the play. 
     The Fish extended their lead to 8-0 in the bottom of the third. Javier Sanoja drove in Heriberto Hernandez and Graham Pauley on a base hit up the middle. 
     Chicago(1-5) gave up another run in the sixth inning and trailed 9-0. Lopez scored on a single by Hicks into right field. The White Sox were down 10-0 in the bottom of the eighth when Lopez smashed a solo home run to left field on a 0-2 count. 

Gerry Sandusky Retiring

     Former Miami television sportscaster and current Baltimore Ravens radio play-by-play announcer Gerry Sandusky will be retiring from broadcasting. He will do his final sportscast at WBAL-TV in Baltimore on April 17.
     Sandusky, a Towson University grad, entered professional broadcasting as a Miami sportscaster at WSVN-TV in 1984. He moved on to Baltimore in 1988 to work at WBAL-TV as a sports reporter and sports anchor. Sandusky was elevated to sports director at that television station in 1993. He has been the radio voice of the Baltimore Ravens since 2006. 

Celtics Stomp Heat

     The Boston Celtics stopped the Miami Heat 147-129 at Kaseya Center on Wednesday night. Both teams have already clinched a postseason spot. The Heat will have a rare three days between contests and then will participate in their next game on Saturday. 
     Boston(51-25) blasted out to a 53-33 lead by the end of the first quarter. The C's remained in front 80-57 at halftime. 
     Miami(40-37) kept up with the pace early in the second half and were down 112-102 at the conclusion of three quarters. The Celtics pulled away during the fourth quarter for the victory. 
     The Heat were led by Bam Adebayo with a double-double of 29 points and 10 rebounds. Davion Mitchell scored 21 points and Jaime Jaquez Jr. drained in 17 points. Tyler Herro and Pelle Larsson both added 18 points each. 
     Jayson Tatum finished with a triple-double of 25 points, 18 rebounds and 11 assists. Jaylen Brown had a game-high 43 points for Boston. Sam Hauser contributed 23 points while Neemias Queta compiled 16 points and 11 rebounds for a double-double. 

Marlins Acquire Leo Jimenez

     The Miami Marlins traded for infielder Leo Jimenez from the Toronto Blue Jays. The Fish sent back infielder Dub Gleed up to Toronto. 
     Jimenez participated for the past two seasons with the Blue Jays. He had a .207 batting average, five home runs and 20 runs batted in during 81 games. 

Panthers Ink Tyler Muszelik

     The Florida Panthers have signed goalie Tyler Muszelik to a two-year, entry-level contract. The deal will begin in the 2026-27 season. 
     Muszelik was selected by the Panthers in the sixth round of the 2022 NHL Draft. He played two years of college hockey with the University of New Hampshire and two seasons with the University of Connecticut. 

Jorge Lopez In Mexico

     Former Miami Marlins pitcher Jorge Lopez has signed a deal in the Mexican League. He has inked a one-year contract with Tecos de los Dos Laredos.
     Lopez was with the Marlins during the 2023 campaign. He had a 2-0 record with a 9.26 earned run average in 12 relief appearances in Miami that year.
