Cubs Host Marlins

     The Chicago Cubs xxxxz the Miami Marlins x-x at Wrigley Field  on Wednesday night. The Cubs look to clinch a National League postseason spot.

Heat Extend Pelle Larsson

     The Miami Heat have signed guard Pelle Larsson to a four-year, $60 million contract extension through the 2029-30 season. There is a mutual option for the 2030-31 campaign. 

     Larsson joined the Heat in June 2024 when they acquired him from the Houston Rockets in a three-team trade. He has averaged 11.4 points, 3.5 rebounds and 3.4 assists in 125 games over the past two seasons with Miami. 

Marlins Outduel Cubs

     The Miami Marlins managed the Chicago Cubs 8-2 in 12 innings at Wrigley Field on Tuesday night. Both teams faced each other earlier this month in South Florida. 

     Miami(77-80) had a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning. Agustin Ramirez knocked in Kyle Stowers with a base hit into center field. 

     The Marlins extended their lead to 2-0 in the top of the sixth. Stowers cracked a solo home run to left field on  field on the first pitch for his 20th homer of the season. It was his second straight year with at least 20 home runs. 

     Chicago(87-70) broke the shutout in the bottom of the sixth. Pete Crow-Armstrong scored on a fielder's choice when Joe Mack made a catching error on a throw from first. Two batters later, Ian Happ singled through the right side and Seiya Suzuki crossed the plate to make it 2-2. 

     The Fish recaptured the lead in the top of the 12th with six runs and made it 8-2. Griffin Conine sliced a single inside the left-field line and Esteury Ruiz reached home. Two batters later, Jakob Marsee drove in Conine on a single into right-center field. 

     Three batters after that, Stowers walked with the bases loaded and Marsee touched home. Javier Sanoja followed with a single into right field and Heriberto Hernandez scored. Mack came up next and singled up the middle for Otto Lopez and Stowers to score. 

Hurricanes Ease By Panthers

     The Florida Panthers were edged by the Carolina Hurricanes 3-2 in a shootout at Lenovo Center in Raleigh on Tuesday night. It was the second preseason contest for both clubs. Panthers goalie Akira Schmid made his Panthers debut in net. 

     The Panthers and the Hurricanes will face each other for the regular season opener on September 29 at Raleigh. Carolina will raise their 2026 Stanley Cup championship banner to the rafters prior to that contest. 

     Florida rolled out to a 1-0 lead at the 4:31 mark of the opening period. Aleksander Barkov tapped the puck on the left goal line and Sam Reinhart sent a pass from the left corner. Brady Tkachuk chalked up his third goal in two preseason games with a snap shot from the top left circle. 

     Carolina evened it up 1-1 at 7:00 of the first. Brady Nadeau was able to pick a tally from the top of the crease following a left point shot by former Panthers defenseman Mike Reilly.

     The Cats made it 2-1 just 18 seconds later. Seth Jones cleared the puck out of their defensive zone with a lead pass from the goal line. Tkachuk pushed a square pass in the neutral zone. Barkov skated into the Canes zone and placed in a wrist shot from the left inner circle for his second goal in the preseason. 

     In the second period, the Hurricanes got the only goal during the frame. Justin Robidas had an unassisted goal with 8:35 to go when he snapped a shot from the right wing off a Panthers turnover. There was no scoring by either team in the third period and overtime.   

     The shootout would decide the contest. Nadeau scored on Carolina's second attempt with a backhand shot and Felix Unger Sorum followed with a backhand shot on their third attempt for the victory. 

Dolphins Ink Andre Jones

     The Miami Dolphins have signed defensive lineman Andre Jones to a contract. He was taken from the Buffalo Bills practice squad. 

     Jones played in 16 games with the Washington Commanders in 2023 and 2024. He participated in three contests with the Bills last season. 

Chaminade-Madonna & Cardinal Gibbons Cancelled

     The game between the Chaminade-Madonna Lions and the Cardinal Gibbons Chiefs at Dr. Bud Tight Field on Monday night in Fort Lauderdale was cancelled due to inclement weather. Their contest on Friday night was postponed for the same reason. 

     It was the only South Florida high school football contest to be played tonight. Both teams have won multiple FHSAA state championships in the past eight years. 

     Chaminade-Madonna(3-1) will host the St. Andrew's Scots this Friday. Cardinal Gibbons(2-2) will be home against the Plantation Colonels later this week. 

Inter Miami CF Ties San Diego FC

     Inter Miami CF tied San Diego FC 2-2 at Nu Stadium on Sunday night. It was the first time both Major League Soccer franchises played a contest against each other. 

     In the first half, San Diego FC(8-12-7) got out to a 1-0 lead in the 12th minute. Anders Dreyer received a long lead pass in the midfield circle and went in alone on a breakaway. He chipped in a left-footed shot from 12 yards out. 

     Inter Miami CF(12-4-10) tied it 1-1 in the 24th minute. Lionel Messi curled a direct kick with his left foot from 21 yards away off the left point and into the net. 

     The Herons moved ahead 2-1 in the second half during the 74th minute. Luis Suarez released a right-footed shot from eight yards into the left side of the cage. It was the 13th goal of the season for Suarez. 

     It became 2-2 when San Diego FC scored in the 82nd minute. Dreyer received a lead pass and scored on a 15-yard shot with his left foot. 

Panthers Blow By Hurricanes

     The Florida Panthers beat the reigning Stanley Cup champions the Carolina Hurricanes 6-3 at Amerant Bank Arena on Sunday night. Panthers captain and center Aleksander Barkov played in his first game since the 2025 Stanley Cup Final against the Edmonton Oilers. 

     New Florida center Brady Tkachuk was in a Panthers uniform for the first time and contributed two goals along with an assist for three points. Panthers goalie Jacob Markstrom began his second stint with the Cats. 

     The Hurricanes and the Panthers have captured the Stanley Cup title in the past three seasons. They have combined to win the last four Eastern Conference championships. 

     Both teams participated in their first preseason game under a new league deal. The new collective bargaining agreement, which was agreed to and ratified prior to the upcoming 2026-27 NHL campaign, requires all 32 National Hockey League teams to play a maximum of four preseason games this season. 

Padres Sweep Marlins

     The San Diego Padres stopped the Miami Marlins 7-3 on Sunday at Petco Park. The Padres, who have won 13 of their past 14 games, finished off a three-game sweep this weekend. The Marlins head to the Central Time Zone and take on the Chicago Cubs on Tuesday. 

     San Diego(87-69) roared out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second. Jake Cronenworth smashed a two-run homer to right field on a 1-0 pitch with Xander Bogaerts aboard.

     The Padres extended their lead to 4-0 in the fourth inning. Cronenworth doubled into left field to score Jackson Merrill. Samad Taylor then followed and drove in Cronenworth with a double down the left-field line.

     Miami(76-80) chalked up three runs during the top of the seventh and were down 4-3. Javier Sanoja powered a three-run home run over the left-center field wall on a 0-1 count for his 10th homer this year. Heriberto Hernandez and Jakob Marsee scored in front of him on the play. 

     The Friars added one run in the bottom of the seventh along with two runs in the bottom of the eighth for a 7-3 lead. They picked up a solo home run from Fernando Tatis Jr. and a two-run homer by Cronenworth, his second home run of the contest. It was the second multi-homer game for Cronenworth in his MLB career. 

49ers Ride By Dolphins

     The San Francisco 49ers routed the Miami Dolphins 35-13 at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara on Sunday. The Dolphins began the 2026 regular season winless after two contests. The 49ers scored touchdowns on their first five possessions of the game. 

     San Francisco(2-0) moved out to a 7-0 advantage with 4:17 left in the first quarter. Running back Christian McCaffrey scored on a one-yard touchdown run.

     Miami(0-2) cut the deficit to 7-3 at the 9:56 mark of the second quarter. Riley Patterson made a 28-yard field goal.

      The 49ers expanded it to 14-3 with 5:24 to go in the second. Quarterback Brock Purdy raced in from two yards away

     The Dolphins closed it to 14-6 no time remaining in the second. Patterson was able to boot a. 24-yard field goal.

      In the third quarter, the Niners increased their lead to 21-6 at 13:08. Tight end George Kittle caught a 12-yard touchdown pass from Purdy.

      It became 28-6 for San Francisco with 5:46 remaining in the third. Purdy tossed a six-yard touchdown pass to fullback Kyle Juszczyk.

     The Fins fell behind 35-6 with 3:10 to go in the third. McCaffrey leaped into the end zone from one yard out for his 100th career NFL touchdown. 

     The Dolphins found the end zone with 2:30 left in the fourth quarter to make it 35-13. Quarterback Malik Willis connected a 77-yard touchdown strike to wide receiver Ryan Miller. 

Matthew Tkachuk On The Hockey News Cover Again

     Florida Panthers right wing Matthew Tkachuk showed up on the front cover of the annual The Hockey News magazine. He was one of 32 NHL players who represented their individual organizations. 

     It was the second straight year along with the third time in the past four years that Tkachuk appeared on the annual magazine cover of The Hockey News. He has been on the front cover in 2023, 2025 and 2026. 

     The Panthers have captured two straight Stanley Cup titles in 2024 and 2025 along three consecutive Eastern Conference championships since he was acquired by Florida from the Calgary Flames in July 2022. He is entering his fifth season wearing a Panthers uniform. 

St. John's Over West Boca Raton

     The St. John's Cadets pushed by the West Boca Raton Bobcats 15-14 on Saturday morning at Frank A. Barbieri Jr. Stadium in Boca Raton. The game was postponed on Friday night due to inclement weather. The Cadets make the long trip from Washington D.C. to Palm Beach County.

     It was a close matchup between both teams throughout the contest. West Boca Raton(3-1) had a 14-3 advantage after one quarter and the Bobcats led 14-12 at halftime. St. John's(4-0) kicked a field goal early in the final quarter to take a one-point lead 15-14.

Padres Ease By Marlins

     The San Diego Padres got by the Miami Marlins 7-6 in 10 innings at Petco Park on Saturday night. The Friars eliminated the Fish yesterday from postseason contention. The Marlins and the Padres will complete their three-game series tomorrow. 

     Miami(76-79) broke out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the second. San Diego(86-69) came back with one run in the bottom of the second. The Marlins pulled ahead 5-1 in the top of the third as they added two more runs. The Padres poured on three runs in the bottom of the third and they trailed 5-4. 

     The Friars evened it up 5-5 during the fourth inning and leaped to the lead 6-5 in the sixth inning. The Fish brought the contest into extra innings with one run in the top of the ninth to tie it up 6-6. San Diego picked up the walk-off win in the bottom of the 10th. 

Hurricanes Burn Wake Forest

     The University of Miami Hurricanes went to North Carolina and beat the Wake Forest University Demon Deacons 33-20 on Friday night. The Canes stand along in first place in the Atlantic Coast Conference standings.

     Miami(3-0,2-0) ripped out to a 7-0 lead on their first possession at 7:20 of the opening quarter. Quarterback Darian Mensah tossed a nine-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Joshua Moore in the middle of the end zone.

     Wake Forest(2-1, 0-1) tied it up 7-7 with 1:22 to go in the first. Wide receiver Kamrean Johnson caught a 10-yard touchdown pass in the back right corner of the end zone from quarterback Gio Lopez.

      In the second quarter, the Canes reclaimed the lead 14-7 at the 13:07 mark. Mensah connected a 21-yard pass to wide receiver Elija Lofton on the left side.

      The Hurricanes increased their lead to 21-7 with 8:17 remaining in the second. Running back Mark Fletcher Jr. busted up the middle from one yard away.

      It became 24-7 for Miami with no time left in the first half. Jake Weinberg kicked a 28-yard field goal. Mensah was a perfect 20-for-20 passing in the first two quarters of play

      In the second half, the Canes made it 31-7 at 9:56 of the third quarter. Mensah found wide receiver Malachi Toney in the back of the end zone on a two-yard touchdown toss.

      The Demon Deacons answered back with 4:06 left in the third and cut it to 31-13. Lopez fired a 23-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Jack Foley.

     In the fourth quarter, Wake Forest closed it to 31-20 at the 14:56 mark. Wide receiver Carlos Hernandez made a 17-yard touchdown reception on the right side of the end zone from Lopez. 

Padres Eliminate Marlins

     The San Diego Padres canned the Miami Marlins 8-2 at Petco Park on Friday night. The Padres eliminated the Marlins from postseason contention in 2026 with the victory. The Fish continued their final road trip of the year. 

     Miami(76-78) broke out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the third. Agustin Ramirez smacked a solo home run to left filed on a 1-1 pitch for his fifth homer  this year..

     San Diego(85-69) piled on six runs in the bottom of the fifth and they had a five-run margin. Fernando Tatis Jr. singled into right field to score Xander Bogaerts. Dustin Harris came up next and drove in Jake Cronenworth with a single up the middle. Two batters later, Ty France capped the frame with a three-run homer to left field on the first pitch with Tatos and Harris aboard. It was the 21st home run for France in 2026.

     The Marlins closed it to 6-2 during the top of the eighth. Javier Sanoja knocked in Otto Lopez on a base hit through the left side.

     The Padres responded with two more runs in the bottom of the eighth for an 8-2 advantage. Jackson Merrill started the rally with a solo home run to right field on a 1-2 pitch for his 26th homer of the season.

Bryce Oliver Heads To Texans

     One-time Broward County high school football wide receiver Bryce Oliver has signed with the Houston Texans. He was assigned to their practice squad. 

     Oliver was with the Dillard Panthers during high school football along with splitting his time in college football with Kentucky and Youngtown State. He played 13 contests with the Tennessee Titans for two seasons in 2024 and 2025. 

Eleanor Sheahan WPTV-TV Sportscaster

     Eleanor Sheahan joined the sports department at WPTV-TV Channel 5 and WFLX-TV Channel 29 in West Palm Beach last month. She has be used mainly as a sports reporter. 

     Sheahan previously worked as a sportscaster at KOAA-TV in Colorado Springs for three years before her arrival in South Florida. She broke into professional broadcasting as a news reporter with KOMU-TV in Columbia, Missouri. 

     Both WPTV-TV and WFLX-TV have used John Barron and Kendall Hyde as sports reporters since last year. News anchor Todd Wilson has been the Friday night high school football sports anchor since August 2022. 

Blanche Ely Tops Deerfield Beach In McDougle Bowl

     The Blanche Ely Tigers survived the Deerfield Beach Bucks 6-0 in overtime at Butler Stadium in the annual McDougle Bowl on Thursday night. Both teams played in the same district during 2024 and 2025. 

     The Tigers have been victorious in the past five meetings. The Bucks had won 10 consecutive matchups prior to that. 

     Blanche Ely(3-2) and Deerfield Beach(4-1) were held scoreless during the first fourth quarter of the game. The Tigers chalked up a touchdown in overtime to get the win. 

Miami & West Palm Beach Radio Markets Drop

     Miami and West Palm Beach dropped in radio market size among the most populated areas in the United States. Nielsen announced their new rankings of cities for their upcoming Fall 2026 ratings. 

     Seattle moved up to 11th place while Miami fell to 12th place in population. West Palm Beach went down two spots to 49th place. 

Locals Off Pro Football Selection Committee

     The Pro Football Hall of Fame has shifted the amount of media members on the selection committee from 50 down to 28. Two National Football League writers with local ties lost their positions. 

     Armando Salguero, former Miami Herald Miami Dolphins beat writer, was named one of the members who will not return. He has been on committee for the past 12 years. 

     One-time Miami Herald Miami Dolphins beat reporter Jason Cole was also taken off the committee. He had also done it for 12 years. 

Bryan McCabe Joining Devils

     Bryan McCabe has joined the New Jersey Devils organization. He will handle the role of vice president of prospect personnel along with assistant general manager of their AHL affiliate the Utica Comets. He will work under former Florida Panthers assistant general manager and current Devils general manager Sunny Mehta. 

     McCabe played three seasons with Florida from 2008-09 until 2010-11. He started in the Panthers hockey operations department prior to the 2012-13 season. The Cats captured two Stanley Cup titles during his tenure in 2024 and 2025. McCabe left the Panthers front office in early August. 

Kraken Adds Chuck Fletcher

     The Seattle Kraken has hired Chuck Fletcher in their hockey operations department. His duties will be special advisor to the general manager. 

     Fletcher was the first assistant general manager in Florida Panthers franchise history. He had that position from their inaugural season in 1993-94 until he was elevated to the interim general manager post during the 2001-02 campaign. 

Inter Miami CF Wins Campeones Cup

     Inter Miami CF defeated Cruz Azul 2-0 in the 2026 Campeones Cup Final at Nu Stadium on Wednesday night. The Herons captured the Campeones Cup for the first time. The Campeones Cup was first held in 2018. 

     It was a clash between the two domestic champions over the past year from the United States and Mexico. The Herons captured the MLS Cup in 2025 while Cruz Azul won the Liga MX Campeon de Campeones (Super Cup) earlier this year. 

     In the first half, Inter Miami CF roared out to a 1-0 lead during the 24th minute of play. Luis Suarez crossed the ball back from the right end line and Lionel Messi put in a jumping header from six yards away into the left side of the cage. It turned out to be Messi's 100th goal in a Herons uniform. 

     The Herons increased their lead to 2-0 in the 81st minute. Messi took a corner kick from the left side and Carlos Casemiro was able to place in a header from seven yards out into the low right corner of the net. It was the fourth time this year that Casemiro scored on a header off a Messi corner kick.  

     Both teams had faced each other one previous time in Fort Lauderdale. Inter Miami CF took Cruz Azul 2-1 in a Leagues Cup contest when Messi made his debut with Inter Miami CF in July 2023. He scored the go-ahead goal for the Herons in the stoppage time at the end of the second half. 

Marlins Edge Diamondbacks

     The Miami Marlins escaped the Arizona Diamondbacks 4-3 on Wednesday night at Chase Field. The Marlins will continue their nine-game road trip in San Diego against the Padres on Friday.

     Miami(76-77) rushed out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the second. Heriberto Hernandez got an infield hit to third for Jakob Marsee and Xavier Edwards to score. Nolan Arenado was charged with a throwing error on the play. 

     Arizona(80-73) cut it to 2-1 during the bottom of the third. Pavin Smith clobbered a solo home run to right-center field on a 0-1 count for his second homer this year. 

     It became 4-1 for the Fish in the fourth inning. Marsee belted a two-run homer to right field on the first pitch with Javier Sanoja on base. It was Marsee's 11th home run of the season. 

     The Diamondbacks made it 4-2 in the fifth inning. Gabriel Moreno smacked a solo home run to left field on a 2-0 pitch for his 15th homer of the 2026 campaign. 

     The D-Backs closed it to 4-3 during the bottom of the eighth. Arenado socked a solo home run to left-center field on a 1-0 count for his 26th homer of the year.

Panthers Ink Nathan Bastian

     The Florida Panthers have signed right wing Nathan Bastian to a professional tryout offer. He will attempt to make their team for the upcoming 2026-27 NHL season. 

     Bastian has been in the National Hockey League since the 2018-19 campaign. He previously had two stints with the New Jersey Devils. 

Jesus Sanchez Lands In Arizona

     One-time Miami Marlins outfielder Jesus Sanchez has been claimed off waivers by the Arizona Diamondbacks. He was with the Toronto Blue Jays for 99 contests this season. 

     Sanchez played his first six seasons in the majors with the Marlins from 2020 until 2025. He compiled 69 home runs, 226 runs batted in and a .243 batting average in 532 games with Miami. 

Michael Irvin Back On ESPN

     Former St. Thomas Aquinas Raiders and University of Miami Hurricanes wide receiver Michael Irvin has returned back to ESPN for his third stint with that organization. His new role is as a guest studio panelist on First Take alongside Stephen A. Smith on Mondays. 

     Irvin won a national championship with the Hurricanes in 1987. He contributed to the Dallas Cowboys capturing three Super Bowl titles.

     He was a sports talk host on Sports Radio 560 WQAM-AM. Irvin co-hosted middays at the radio station from July 2010 to December 2011. He shifted to late mornings from January 2012 to July 2012. 

Marlins Get By Diamondbacks

     The Miami Marlins downed the Arizona Diamondbacks 4-2 in 11 innings on Tuesday night at Chase Field. The Marlins continued their nine-game road trip out west. 

     Arizona(80-72) found themselves ahead 1-0 in the bottom of the first. Gabriel Moreno crushed a solo home run to left-center field on a 1-2 pitch for his 14th homer of the season. 

     Miami(75-77) tied it 1-1 in the top of the fourth. Griffin Conine socked a solo homer to right-center field on a 3-2 count for his 16th home run of the campaign.

     In the top of the 11th, Marlins moved out to a 4-1 lead with three runs. Esteury Ruiz doubled off the center-field wall for Jared Serna, Kyle Stowers and Otto Lopez to score. 

     The Diamondbacks placed one run in the bottom of the 11th. Ketel Marte knocked in Ildemaro Vargas with a double into the left-center field gap.

Michelle Kaufman & Andre Fernandez Out From Miami Herald

     The Miami Herald continued to make job cuts in their organization. They have released Inter Miami CF beat reporter Michelle Kaufman and deputy sports editor Andre Fernandez. 

     Kaufman had a long reign with that newspaper for over 30 years. She worked as a tennis columnist and soccer columnist along with being the University of Miami Hurricanes basketball beat writer. Kaufman has been the Inter Miami CF beat writer since the team's inaugural season in 2020. 

     Fernandez has worked mainly as a deputy sports editor and a fill-in beat reporter recently during his tenure there. His former duties at that organization included high school sports reporter and Miami Marlins beat writer. 

Greg Cote Exiting Miami Herald

     Longtime Miami Herald sports columnist Greg Cote has been let go by the newspaper due to job cuts. He has worked there for the past 54 years since September 5, 1972. His final day with the organization will be on September 25. 

     He will continue to work at Meadowlark Media as a podcast host and occasional panelist on the Dan Le Batard Show. Cote has hosted the Greg Cote Show podcast since 2020 and on Meadowlark Media since January 2021. 

Marlins Jumped By Diamondbacks

     The Miami Marlins fell to the Arizona Diamondbacks 8-7 at Chase Field on Monday night. The Marlins began a nine-game road swing. 

     Miami(74-77) stormed out with three runs in the top of the second for a 3-0 advantage. Javier Sanoja tripled into the right-center field gap to score Griffin Conine and Jakob Marsee. Joe Mack followed with a sacrifice fly into left field and Sanoja reached home. 

     Arizona(80-71) evened it up 3-3 during the bottom of the third. They pulled off a double steal as Jordan Lawlar scored from third off a Otto Lopez throwing error. Lars Nootbaar later lifted a two-run home run over the right-center field wall on a 2-2 pitch for his seventh homer of the season.

     The Marlins reclaimed the lead 5-3 in the top of the fourth with back-to-back home runs. Marsee chalked up his 10th homer of the year and Sanoja followed with his ninth home run of the campaign. 

     The Diamondbacks cut it to a one-run margin 5-4 in the fifth inning. Corbin Carroll singled into left field and Nootbaar crossed the plate. 

     The Fish added two more runs in the seventh inning for a 7-4 lead. Kyle Stowers knocked in Mack with a double into the left-center field gap. Two batters later, Xavier Edwards drove in Stowers on a base hit through the right side. 

     The D-Backs closed it to 7-6 in the bottom of the eighth. Lawler powered a two-run homer to left-center field on a 2-1 count for his fifth home run this season. Tim Tawa scored in front of him on the play. 

      Arizona leaped over Miami in the bottom of ninth. Carroll powered a walk-off, two-run homer to right field on a 2-1 pitch with Tommy Troy aboard for an 8-7 victory. It turned out to be Carroll's 21st homer in 2026. 

Marlins Shock Dodgers

     The Miami Marlins surprised the Los Angeles Dodgers 6-4 in a walk-off victory on Sunday at loanDepot park. The Marlins won two contests in a three-game weekend series against the reigning two-time World Series champion Dodgers. The Fish completed a long nine-game homestand and will start a nine-game road trip tomorrow.   

     Dodgers infielder and former Marlins player Miguel Rojas played his final game ever in Miami. He will retire at the end of the season.

     Former Marlins pitcher Dontrelle Willis was inducted into the Miami Marlins Legends Hall of Fame before the game by the franchise. He currently works as a television studio analyst on Dodgers broadcasts. 

     Los Angeles((90-59) posted three runs in the top of the third and led 3-0. Josue De Paula hammered his first career Major League Baseball home run on a 2-2 pitch to right field. Will Smith and Kyle Tucker scored in front of him on the play. 

     Miami(74-76) began the comeback with two runs in the eighth inning to make it 3-2. Otto Lopez singled into center field with the bases loaded to score Joe Mark and Esteury Ruiz. 

     The Dodgers added an additional run in the top of the ninth for a 4-2 advantage. Mookie Betts hit a ground-rule double to right field and Alex Freeland crossed the plate. 

     Marlins finished off the come-from-behind win during the bottom of the ninth for the walk-off victory. Javier Sanoja knocked in Xavier Edwards and Jakob Marsee on a double down the left-field line to tie it up 4-4. Pinch-hitter Agustin Ramirez came up next and blasted a two-run homer to left-center field on a 2-1 count to conclude the game. 

Raiders Race By Dolphins

     The Las Vegas Raiders defeated the Miami Dolphins 27-13 on Sunday at Allegiant Stadium. Both teams opened up their 2026 regular season campaigns. 

     Dolphins head coach Jeff Hafley coached his first game with his new organization. Klint Kubiak was at the helm for the first time with the Raiders. 

     Las Vegas(1-0) got the only score of the first quarter with 1:33 left for a 7-0 lead. Quarterback Kirk Cousins connected a 15-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Jack Bech on the right side. 

    In the second quarter, the Raiders extended their lead to 10-0 at 10:22 on a 47-yard field goal from Matt Gay. Miami(0-1) closed it to 10-3 with a 41-yard field goal by Riley Patterson with 4:08 remaining. 

     It became 17-3 for Las Vegas with 1:07 left in the second. Cousins fired a 13-yard touchdown pass to running back Ashton Jeanty in the middle of the field. Patterson answered back with no time remaining in the first half on a 37-yard field goal and the Fins trailed 17-6.

     In the second half, the Dolphins cut the deficit down to 17-13 at the 12:44 mark of the third quarter. Quarterback Malik Willis, playing his first game with his new club, rushed around the right end and down the right sideline on a 14-yard touchdown run.

     The Raiders would pull away from the Fins with 9:58 to go in the third. Jeanty caught a 13-yard touchdown pass from Cousins on the left side to make it 24-13. Gay would kick a 30-yard field goal with 2:34 remaining in the quarter which gave them a 27-13 advantage. 

Alonzo Gee In Minnesota

     Former Palm Beach County high school basketball player Alonzo Gee continued to be associated with the National Basketball Association. He has worked in basketball operations with the Minnesota Timberwolves. 

     Gee participated in high school basketball with the Dwyer Panthers. He later played college basketball with the University of Alabama Crimson Tide. 

     He was with six different teams during his eight-season NBA playing career. Clubs included the Washington Wizards(twice), San Antonio Spurs, Cleveland Cavaliers, Denver Nuggets(twice), Portland Trail Blazers and New Orleans Pelicans. 

Inter Miami CF Tie Nashville SC

     Inter Miami CF tied Nashville SC 2-2 at Nu Stadium on Saturday night. The top two teams in the Eastern Conference standings competed against each other. 

     It was the 13th time that both teams faced other in the last three seasons. The Herons have played four of their past five contests at home. 

     In the first half, Nashville SC(16-3-6) rocketed out to a 1-0 lead in the fourth minute. Sam Surridge booted a right-footed shot from 12 yards out.

      Inter Miami CF(12-4-9) answered back in the 19th minute and tied it up 1-1. Lionel Messi took a corner kick from the right side and Reed Baker-Whiting headed the ball into his own cage for an own goal.

     The Herons moved ahead 2-1 in the 62nd minute of play. Rodrigo De Paul fed a square pass with the outside portion of his right foot to his right and then Messi one-time a left-footed shot into the left side of the cage from 21 yards away. Messi is now ahead for the Golden Boot Award in Major League Soccer with his 19th goal of the season. 

     It became 2-2 during stoppage time at the end of the second half. Surridge collected his second goal of the contest for Nashville SC when he tapped in a rebound shot with his left foot from two yards. 

Marlins Hold Off Dodgers

     The Los Angeles Dodgers were downed by the Miami Marlins 4-3 on Saturday at loanDepot park. The Marlins ended a four-game losing streak. The Dodgers were victorious eight consecutive games until tonight.

     Los Angeles(90-58) took a 2-0 lead in the top of the second with back-to-back home runs.Mookie Betts belted a solo home to left field on a 2-2 pitch for his 20th home run of the season. Max Muncy followed with a solo home run to center field for his 28th homer of the campaign.

     Miami(73-76) leaped ahead 3-2 with three runs during the bottom of the third. Graham Pauley socked a two-run homer to right-center field on a 1-1 count, with Owen Caissie on base, for his fourth home run this year. Five batters later, Otto Lopez singled into right field which scored Heriberto Hernandez.

     The Fish expanded their lead to 4-2 in the fifth inning. Javier Sanoja grounded into a fielder's choice and Griffin Conine reached home on a Betts throwing error.

     The Dodgers tried to tie it up in the top of the ninth, but they fell short by one run 4-3. Hunter Fedducia drove in. Josue De Paula with a base hit through the left circle. 

Tim Graham At WGR

     Tim Graham will start his new role as a late morning co-host at WGR-AM in Buffalo on September 14. He has worked as an early afternoon co-host at that radio station since February. He will continue as The Athletic Buffalo Bills beat reporter. 

     Graham had a reign at the Buffalo News as a Buffalo Sabres beat reporter. He moved to South Florida and became the Miami Dolphins beat writer for the Palm Beach Post. 

     He would then return to Western New York. Graham joined ESPN.com as their AFC East Division pro football writer and blogger. 

Dodgers Surf By Marlins

     The two-time defending World Series champions the Los Angeles Dodgers breezed by the Miami Marlins 6-2 at loanDepot park on Friday night. The Dodgers have the second best record in the National League. 

     The Marlins extended their losing streak to four games. The Dodgers now have an eight-game winning streak.

     Dodgers designated hitter and starting pitcher Shohei Ohtani was placed on the 10-day injured list and will not play in the three-game series. He accomplished a Major League Baseball milestone two years ago in Miami. Ohtani became the first player to have 50 home runs and 50 stolen bases in a single season. Josue De Paula made his Major League Baseball debut for the Dodgers.

     Los Angeles(90-57) had a 1-0 advantage in the top of the third. Kyle Tucker hit a sacrifice fly to left field which scored Tommy Edman.

     It became 2-0 for the Dodgers in the top of the sixth. Will Smith singled into right field and Tucker crossed the plate.

     Miami(72-76) closed it to 2-1 during the bottom of the sixth. Agustin Ramirez doubled into the right-center field gap and Javier Sanoja raced home.

     Los Angeles poured on four runs in the seventh inning and pulled away 6-1. Tucker smacked a grand-slam homer to right field on a 1-1 pitch for his 14th home run of the season. Edman, Max Muncy and Mookie Betts scored in front of him on the play. It turned out to Tucker's first grand-slam home run since August 2023. 

     The Marlins added one more run in the eighth inning. Owen Caissie knocked in Sanoja on a sacrifice fly into left field. 

West Palm Beach Ratings August 2026

     The ratings were issued for West Palm Beach sports talk format radio stations. The time span went from the fourth week of July to the third week of August. 

     ESPN West Palm 106.3 WESP-FM ended up again with a 0.7 in the month. The Miami Dolphins had a 0-2 record during the preseason. 

     Fox Sports 640 South Florida WMEN-AM stayed at a 0.4 in the period. The radio station did not air any game broadcasts. 

     Sports Radio 1230 The Gambler WBZT-AM remained at a 0.0 for the fifth straight month. The Miami Marlins saw their record fall and were outside of the National League Wild-Card race. 

St. Thomas Aquinas Blanks Dillard

     The St. Thomas Aquinas made the three-mile trip up Northwest 27th Avenue and blasted the Dillard Panthers 49-0 at Otis Gray Jr. Memorial Stadium in Fort Lauderdale on Thursday night. Both teams were in the same district earlier this decade. It was their first matchup against each other since 2023. 

     St. Thomas Aquinas(4-0) took control at the beginning of the contest. The Raiders had a 35-0 advantage at the end of the first quarter. Dillard(2-2) allowed another touchdown late in the second quarter and they trailed 42-0 at halftime.

     A running clock was implemented for the second half. STA added another score midway in the third quarter for a 49-point margin.

West Boca Raton Topples Cardinal Newman

     The FHSAA Class 6A state champions the West Boca Raton Bulls defeated the FHSAA Class 1A state champions the Cardinal Newman Crusaders 24-7 in Boca Raton on Thursday night at Frank A. Barbieri Jr. Stadium. It was a battle between two reigning state champions. 

     West Boca Raton(3-0) ended up getting a field goal to go up 3-0 early in the second quarter. The Bulls increased their lead to 10-0 on a touchdown midway in the second.

     In the second half, West Boca Raton made it 17-0 three minutes into the third quarter. Cardinal Newman(3-1) broke the shutout with seven minutes remaining in the third with a score to make it 17-7. The Bulls found the end zone again one minute into the final quarter for a 24-7 lead.

Hurricanes Pound Florida A&M

     The University of Miami Hurricanes dominated the Florida A&M Rattlers 77-7 at Hard Rock Stadium on Thursday night. The Hurricanes last played at that venue for the CPF National Championship versus Indiana back in January. 

     The Canes matched their total for the most points scored in a game in school history. They also set a record with 856 total yards on offense. 

     Miami(2-0) struck quickly at the 12:37 mark of the first quarter and led 7-0. Running back Mark Fletcher Jr. sprinted down the left side on a 47-yard touchdown run. 

     The Hurricanes extended it to 14-0 at 11:11 of the first. Quarterback Darian Mensah connected a 55-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver xxx  Moore on the left hash marks.

     Florida A&M(1-2) fell behind 21-0 with 6:17 to go in the first. Fletcher rushed up the middle from one yard out.

     The Canes made it 28-0 on the first play of the second quarter. Mensah tossed a 19-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Malachi Toney on the front left side of the end zone.  

      It became 35-0 for the Hurricanes at 10:10 of the second. Running back Jarrod Pringle Jr. cut back to around the left side on a five-yard run.

      Miami expanded it to 49-0 with 46 seconds remaining in the first half. Running back Javion Mallory raced up the middle from 16 yards away.

Keidron Smith With Bears

     One-time Palm Beach County high school football player Keidron Smith has joined the Chicago Bears practice squad. He was waived by both the New York Jets and the Atlanta Falcons in August. 

     Smith played high school football with the Oxbridge Academy Thunderwolves. They fell to the Chaminade-Madonna Lions in the 2017 FHSAA Class 3A state championship game. 

     He spent college football with Ole Miss and Kentucky. He was with the Denver Broncos for nine games in 2024 and the New York Jets for three contests in 2025. 

Miami Ratings August 2026

     The ratings were issued for Miami/Fort Lauderdale sports talk format radio stations. The time span went from the fourth week in July to the third week in August. 

     104.3 Sports WQAM-FM increased from a 1.0 to a 1.1 in the month. The momentum the Miami Marlins had during the month of June did not carry into the month of July. The Fish were third in the National League East Division and behind four games for a wild-card spot. 

     Fox Sports 940 WINZ-AM shifted from a 0.3 to a 0.2 in the period. The Miami Dolphins returned to action and lost to NFC East Division teams in their first two preseason contests. WZTU-FM-HD2 with the WINZ stream remained the same at a 0.3. 

     Fox Sports 640 South Florida WMEN-AM changed from a 0.2 to a 0.1 in the month. They did not have any game broadcasts on their radio station. 

Inter Miami CF Ties Chicago Fire FC

     Inter Miami CF tied Chicago Fire FC 1-1 at Soldier Field on Wednesday night. Both teams were battling for second place in the Eastern Conference standings. The Herons, who have tied three of their past five Major League Soccer contests, played their first road game following a three-game homestand over the past three weeks. 

     Chicago Fire FC(11-6-6) scooted out to a 1-0 lead in the 10th minute of play. They crossed the ball from the left side and Robert Lewandowski volleyed a right-footed shot from nine yards away into the top left corner of the cage. 

     In the second half, Inter Miami CF(12-4-8) evened it up 1-1 during the 48th minute. Lionel Messi took a corner kick from the left side and Carlos Casemiro placed in a header from eight yards out into the left side of the net. It was the third straight game that Casemiro scored on a header off a corner kick. 

Mets Outbattle Marlins

     The New York Mets outscored the Miami Marlins 15-14 on Wednesday night at loanDepot park. The Marlins looked like they were on their way to their largest comeback victory ever in franchise history after being down by eight runs. The Mets completed a three-game sweep of the Fish. 

     The Marlins have tomorrow off and will host the reigning World Series champions the Los Angeles Dodgers on Friday to begin a three-game series. The Mets will challenge the New York Yankees in The Bronx on Friday in remembering the 25th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on the United States of America. 

     New York(68-78) batted around and piled on six runs in the top of the second for a 6-0 lead. A.J. Ewing drove in Jared Young with a base hit into right field. Brett Baty followed with a single up the middle and Marcus Semien touched home. Luis Torrens then doubled into the right-center field gap to score Ewing and pinch-runner Christopher Morel. Three batters later, Bo Bichette sliced a single inside the right-field line and Torrens raced home. Carson Benge came up next and grounded out to first which scored Francisco Lindor. 

     The Mets expanded their lead to 8-0 during the third inning. Morel lifted a home run to left field on a 1-0 pitch for his first homer of the year and in a Mets uniform. Ewing scored in front of him on the play. 

     Miami(72-75) scored three runs in the bottom of the fourth to make it 8-3. Graham Pauley knocked in Otto Lopez on a single into right field. Joe Mack followed with a base hit up the middle to score Jakob Marsee and Owen Caissie. 

     The Marlins scored five more runs in the bottom of the sixth to tie it up 8-8. Caissie powered a solo homer to center field on a 1-2 count for his 14th home run of the season. Five batters later, Griffin Conine singled into right field and Pauley scored. Joe Mack would score on a walk by Lopez with the bases loaded. Marsee came up next and singled through the left side for Heriberto Hernandez and Conine to cross the plate. 

     In the top of the seventh, New York answered back with six runs to move ahead 14-8. The frame was capped on a three-run homer by Lindor to right field on the first pitch with Morel and Torrens aboard. It was the 18th home run for Lindor in 2026. 

     The Fish responded with one run in the bottom of the seventh and were down 14-9. Mack smacked a solo home run to right-center field on a 0-1 pitch for his 13th homer in his rookie year. 

     The Mets extended their lead to 15-9 in the top of eighth. Torrens drove in Young with an infield base hit down the third-base line. 

     Miami got two runs during the bottom of the eighth and made it 15-11. Caissie and Pauley picked up back-to-back, RBI-singles into center field. 

     The Marlins had three runs in the bottom of the ninth to make it 15-14 and fell short by one run. Conine doubled down the right-field line which scored Kyle Stowers. Lopez came up next with a triple into the right-field corner and Stowers reached home. Marsee followed with a base hit into shallow right field and Lopez scored. Three batters later, Pauley popped out to short with the tying run on second and the winning run on first to end the game. 

Bryce Oliver Gone From Browns

     Former Broward County high school football wide receiver Bryce Oliver has been released from the Cleveland Browns practice squad. He signed with the club on September 2. 

     Oliver participated in high school football with the Dillard Panthers. He was with the University of Kentucky and Youngstown State in college football. He played in 13 contests with the Tennessee Titans during two seasons from 2024 to 2025. 

Mets Blitz Marlins

     The New York Mets hammered the Miami Marlins 7-5 at loanDepot park on Tuesday night. Both teams will conclude their three-game series tomorrow. Miami(72-74) is two games under .500 for the first time since July 26

     New York(67-78) broke out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first. Francisco Lindor led off and powered the first pitch of the contest over the center-field fence for his 17th home run of the season. Four batters later, Jared Young singled up the middle which brought in Juan Soto. 

     The Mets increased their lead to 5-0 in the top of the second with three more runs. Soto walloped a three-run homer to center field on the first pitch with Francisco Alvarez and Lindor aboard. It turned out to be the 24th home run for Soto this season. 

     It became 6-0 for New York during the third inning. Brett Baty lifted a solo home run to center field on a 3-2 count for his 10th homer of the campaign. 

     The Marlins gave up another run in the top of the fifth and they were down 7-0. Baty hit a sacrifice fly to left field and Young reached home. 

     Miami responded with four runs in the bottom of the sixth and trailed 7-4. Jakob Marsee broke up the perfect game by Mets starting pitcher Sean Manaea with a double into shallow left. Jared Serna came up next and doubled into the left-center field gap for Marsee to score. Brian Navarreto followed with a double into the left-field corner and Jared Serna touched home. Two batters later, Otto Lopez knocked in Navarreto on a base hit into left field. Two batters after that, Sanoja drove in Lopez with a single up the middle. 

     The Fish went down with a fight in the ninth inning to make it 7-5. Marsee doubled down the left-field line which scored Joe Mack. 

Browns Release Tyreak Sapp

     The Cleveland Browns have let go defensive lineman Tyreak Sapp. He signed a deal with the team as an undrafted free agent in April. 

     Sapp played high school football with the St. Thomas Aquinas Raiders. He helped STA capture two straight FHSAA Class 7A state championships in 2019 and 2020. Sapp was at the University of Florida from 2021 to 2025 for college football. 

Mets Shake Marlins

     The New York Mets stopped the Miami Marlins 9-4 on Monday at loanDepot park. The Marlins were approaching the midway point of their long nine-game homestand. 

     New York(66-78) rolled out to a 2-0 advantage in the opening frame. Bo Bichette reached base on a fielder's choice throwing error and Juan Soto crossed the plate. They later pulled off a double steal and Bichette scored on a throwing error by Joe Mack.

      The Mets extended their lead to 3-0 in the top of the second. Nick Morebito knocked in Brett Baty with a single into center field. 

      Miami(72-73) leaped to a 4-3 lead in the bottom of the second with four runs. Javier Sanoja tripled into the left-center field gap and Jakob Marsee raced home. Two batters later, Graham Pauley smacked a three-run homer to right field on a 1-2 pitch with Sanoja and Owen Caissie aboard. It was the third home run for Pauley in the 2026 campaign.

     It became 4-4 during the third inning. Francisco Alvarez singled up the middle for Marcus Semien to score.

     In the fourth inning, New York regained the lead 7-4. Bichette drove in Francisco Lindor with a base hit into right field. Three batters later, A.J. Ewing doubled down the left-field line for Soto and Carson Benge to score.

      The Mets increased it to 9-4 n the top of the sixth. Semien doubled into the left-field corner and Benge scored. Ewing came up next and singled through the left side to score Semien.

Steve Goldstein Joins Sports USA

     Florida Panthers television play-by-play announcer and WFOR-TV Channel 4 television sportscaster Steve Goldstein has joined Sports USA. He will announce radio broadcasts of National Football League games and National Hockey League games. 

     Goldstein will continue those two South Florida positions after receiving permission from both the Florida Panthers and WFOR-TV to work for Sports USA. He is not likely to continue his job as the Miami Dolphins Radio Network pregame studio host for the upcoming 2026 NFL season. 

     Goldstein might possibly work the Florida Panthers season-opening contest at the reigning Stanley Cup champions the Carolina Hurricanes on Sports USA. The game will be televised exclusively by ESPN and there will be no Panthers Scripps Sports local broadcast on September 29. Florida will then continue a California road trip to begin their 2026-27 NHL campaign. 

     He will also announce NFL regular season games on Sundays for Sports USA this season. It will lighten his duties at WFOR-TV covering Miami Dolphins games. 

     Goldstein has worked in the Miami market since late 1994. He had several stints at 560 WQAM-AM as a sports on-air personality. Goldstein started as a morning sports anchor for The First Team morning program in 1994. Goldstein was elevated to morning on-air sidekick in 1995. He was later promoted to The First Team morning show co-host role with Joe Rose and Jeff DeForrest and held that position until December 2001. Goldstein become the morning co-host on WQAM alongside Howard David from March 2002 until August 2004. He was employed as an early afternoon co-host with Adam Kuperstein from January 2012 to October 2012. 

     He also had short stays at Sports Talk 790 The Ticket WAXY-AM during the 2004-05 NHL lockout as a weekend host and Fox Sports 940 WINZ-AM as a morning co-host with DeForrest that began in January 2013 and ended in early 2014. Goldstein did host a weekend show with Sportsfan Radio Network during the mid 1990s. 

     Goldstein, a Syracuse University grad, was the Panthers radio studio host on the Florida Panthers Radio Network from October 1996 until the middle of 2004. He was named their new radio play-by-play voice prior to the 2004-05 NHL lockout season replacing Jiggs McDonald. Goldstein was elevated to the television play-by-play announcer position prior to the 2007-08 campaign. He has held that spot for the past 19 years. 

     He last worked as a radio play-by-play announcer for Westwood One. He announced hockey games at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver with former Florida Panthers goalie John Vanbiesbrouck and at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi with one-time Florida Panthers defenseman Bret Hedican. 

     Goldstein has held the sportscaster position at WFOR-TV since 2015. He was a studio co-host of Miccosukee Sports Rap on Fox Sports Net Florida in the 2000s.  Goldstein later co-hosted a Saturday program called Sports Bang with "Stugotz" Jon Weiner and Amber Wilson from October 2012 until the mid 2010s.

Marlins Speed By Cubs

     The Miami Marlins passed by the Chicago Cubs 10-3 on Sunday at loanDepot park. The Fish avoided a three-game sweep to the Cubs. Former Marlins starting pitcher Josh Beckett was inducted into the Miami Marlins Legends Hall of Fame before the contest. 

     The Marlins continued their nine-game homestand. The Cubs could not clinch a winning record this year.

     Miami(72-72) put up two runs in the bottom of the second. Joe Mack grounded out to second and Jakob Marsee crossed the plate. Otto Lopez followed with a base hit through the left side which scored Heriberto Hernandez.

     Chicago(81-63) made it 2-1 in the top of the third. Pete Crow-Armstrong hit a sacrifice fly into left field and Carson Kelly reached home.

     The Cubbies tied it 2-2 in the top of the fourth inning. Nico Hoerner grounded into a double play and Alex Bregman scored.

      The Fish reclaimed the lead 3-2 in the bottom of the fourth. Hernandez belted a solo home run on the first pitch to left field for his 24th homer this season.

       The Cubs evened it up 3-3 in the top of the fifth. Crow-Armstrong blasted a solo homer down the right-field line on the first pitch for his 40th home run of the season. He became the first Cubs player ever to have at least 40 homers and 30 stolen bases in a single season. 

        The Marlins responded with five runs in the bottom of the fifth and expanded their lead to 8-3. Griffin Conine was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and Graham Pauley touched home. Owen Caissie came up next and drove in Javier Sanoja and Kyle Stowers with a single through the right side. Two batters later, Hernandez knocked in Conine on a single into center field. They capped the frame when Caissie came in on a base hit by Mack to center field.

      In the seventh inning, Miami added two more runs for a 10-3 advantage. Sanoja lined a two-run home run to left field with Lopez aboard. It was Sanoja's eighth home run of the year.

Marlins Dump Leo Jimenez

     The Miami Marlins have released infielder Leo Jimenez. He was designated for assignment by the team on Thursday. 

     Jimenez spent this season with the Marlins organization. He compiled two home runs, 14 runs batted in and a .199 batting average in 66 games with Miami. 

Inter Miami CF Ties Atlanta United FC

     Inter Miami CF tied Atlanta United FC 2-2 at Nu Stadium on Saturday night. The Herons completed a three-game homestand against Major League Soccer opponents over the past three Saturdays. 

     In the first half, Inter Miami CF(12-4-7) moved out to a 1-0 lead in the 32nd minute. Lionel Messi took a left-corner kick and Carlos Casemiro put in a header into the right side of net from seven yards. 

     Atlanta United FC(6-13-4) responded back in the 35th minute to tie it up 1-1. Miguel Almiron volleyed a right-footed shot from three yards out. 

     The Herons reclaimed the lead 2-1 during stoppage time at the end of the first half. Luis Suarez got the go-ahead goal before halftime when he dribbled through the defense outside of the penalty area and scored from 11 yards away with his right foot. 

     It became 2-2 late in the second half during the 87th minute. Breel Embolo, who made his Major League Soccer debut, was able to place in a penalty kick with his right foot into the low right corner of the cage for Atlanta United FC to even it up. 

Cubs Edge Marlins

     The Chicago Cubs defeated the Miami Marlins 6-5 on Saturday at loanDepot park. They will conclude their three-game series tomorrow. 

     Chicago(81-62) zipped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the third. Michael Conforto powered a solo home run barely over the center-field fence on a 3-1 pitch for his 14th homer of the season. Six batters later, Ian Happ came up the plate with the bases loaded. He singled into right field to bring in Miguel Amaya and Seiya Suzuki. 

     The Cubs expanded it to 4-0 with one run during the fourth inning. Pete Crow-Armstrong drove in Amaya on a base hit into center field. 

     Miami(71-72) cut the deficit to 4-2 in the bottom of the fourth as they composed two runs. Owen Caissie grounded into a force out and Griffin Conine touched home. Joe Mack followed with a single into left field and Otto Lopez scored. 

     In the top of the fifth, the Cubbies increased their lead to 5-2. Nico Hoerner sliced a single into shallow right field and Michael Busch raced home. 

     The Marlins answered back in the bottom of the frame and were down 5-4. Conine hammered a two-run homer to right field on a 2-1 count for his 15th home run this year. Javier Sanoja scored in front of him on the play. 

     Chicago regained a two-run lead 6-4 in the sixth inning. Busch picked up a base hit into right field for Conforto to score. 

     The Fish closed it to 6-5 in the seventh inning. Kyle Stowers socked a solo home run to center field on a 2-1 pitch for his 19th homer of the season. 

Hurricanes Wipe Out Stanford

     The University of Miami Hurricanes opened up their 2026 campaign with a 45-6 dominant victory over the Stanford University Cardinal in Palo Alto on Friday night. The Canes reached the national title game last year for the first time since 2002.  

     Miami(1-0, 1-0) scored on their first possession at 12:07 of the first quarter for a 7-0 lead. Wide receiver Malachi Toney caught a 23-yard touchdown alone all by himself on the right side from quarterback Darian Mensah. 

     Stanford(1-1, 0-1) cut it to 7-3 at the 7:57 mark of the first. They picked up a 30-yard field goal from Emmet Kenney.   

     The Canes made it 14-3 with 2:53 remaining in the first. Mensah zipped a two-yard touchdown pass to Toney on the front side of the end zone. 

     In the second quarter, the Hurricanes extended their lead to a 21-3 advantage with 7:52 to go. Running back CharMar Brown rushed up the middle untouched from five yards out. 

     The U scored another touchdown with 1:55 left in the second and led 28-3. Mensah tossed a five-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Daylyn Upshaw in the back left side of the end zone. Kenney booted a 24-yard field goal with 27 seconds remaining in the first half and Stanford was down 28-6 

     Miami chalked up two more touchdowns during the third quarter and the Cardinal trailed 42-6. Toney capped off a drive on a 47-yard touchdown strike from Mensah for his third touchdown catch in the contest with 5:24 remaining in the third. 

Giannis Antetokounmpo & Bam Adebayo On Lindy's Sports Cover

     Two Miami Heat players appeared on the pro basketball front cover of Lindy's Sports magazine. They are center Giannis Antetokounmpo and forward Bam Adebayo.

     They showed up on the Florida region version of the publication. Antetokounmpo was acquired by the Heat during the summer from the Milwaukee Bucks. Adebayo has been with Miami for the last nine seasons.

Jahfari Harvey Cut By Raiders

      The Las Vegas Raiders have dropped defensive lineman Jahfari Harvey from their practice squad. He participated with the club in two contests last season. 

     Harvey split playing high school football with John Carroll Catholic and Vero Beach. He was with the University of Miami Hurricanes from 2019 until 2023. He spent his final season in college football with SMU during 2024. 

Cubs Drive By Marlins

     The Chicago Cubs hustled by the Miami Marlins 6-1 at loanDepot park on Friday night. The Marlins started a long nine-game homestand. 

     Chicago(80-62) had a 1-0 lead in the second inning. Pedro Ramirez grounded into a force out and Ian Happ touched home.

     The Cubs added three more runs during the top of the sixth and led 4-0. Happ walked with the bases loaded and Pete Crow-Armstrong crossed the plate. Nico Hoerner followed and knocked in Michael Busch on a base hit through the left side. Ramirez came up next and hit a sacrifice fly to center field which scored Alex Bregman.

     The Cubbies made it a five-run margin 5-0 in the top of the seventh. Crow-Armstrong scored on a wild pitch.

      Miami(71-71) scored their only run of the contest in the bottom of the seventh and the Marlins were down 5-1. Esteury Ruiz grounded to second and Griffin Conine reached home.

     Chicago made it 6-1 during the ninth inning. Busch blasted a solo home run to right-center field ona 0-1 count for his 18th homer of the campaign.

St. Thomas Aquinas Tops Columbus

     The St. Thomas Aquinas Raiders held off the Columbus Explorers 31-24 at Simmons Family Field on Friday night in Fort Lauderdale. Both teams played last Saturday on the same gridiron of Brian Piccolo Stadium against different out-of-state opponents during the Broward County High School Showcase. 

     St. Thomas Aquinas(3-0) rolled out to a 7-0 lead on their first possession of the game in the opening quarter. Columbus(2-1) would evened it up 7-7, but STA answered back to make it 14-7 midway through the second quarter. The Raiders got a field goal at the end of the first half and led 17-7 at halftime.

      STA reached the end zone early in the third quarter and expanded their lead to 24-7. The Explorers responded and made it 24-14 in third. Columbus outscored their opponent 10-7 in the final quarter, however they fell short by seven points to St. Thomas Aquinas 31-24. 

Chaminade-Madonna Covers American Heritage

     The Chaminade-Madonna Lions handled the American Heritage Patriots 46-27 at Vince Zappone Field in Hollywood on Friday. The two Broward County powerhouses have met annually nine times in the past 10 seasons. Both programs have been considered state contenders on an annual basis. 

     It was a high scoring first half for both teams. Chaminade-Madonna(2-1) had a 27-13 advantage at halftime. American Heritage(1-2) gained a point when they exchanged touchdowns early in the third quarter for a Lions 33-20 lead. The Lions outscored the Patriots down the stretch 13-7 during the final quarter.

Glades Central Chops Palm Beach Gardens

     The Glades Central Raiders came across county and outscored the Palm Beach Gardens Gators 55-26 on Friday night at Mullinax Ford Stadium. Both squads were winless entering this game. 

     It was a matchup between two known Palm Beach County football programs that captured FHSAA state championships in the past. The Gators won their only state title in 2005 while the Raiders last took a state championship in 2006. 

     After a scoreless first quarter, the Raiders scored touchdowns on consecutive possessions to lead 14-0. The Gators answered back with a score on their next drive, however Glades Central(1-2) responded with another touchdown for a 21-7 lead late in the second quarter. 

     Glades Central hosts the Royal Palm Beach Wildcats next Thursday. Palm Beach Gardens(0-3) will remain at home next week in a District 12-5A clash with the Seminole Ridge Hawks. 

Atlantic Squeezes By Blanche Ely

     The Atlantic Eagles made the 17-mile trip down I-95 and outscored to the Blanche Ely Tigers 9-6 on Friday night at Richard L. Williams Stadium. It was a battle between two District 14-4A teams. 

     Atlantic(2-1, 1-0) visits the Pahokee Blue Devils next week. Blanche Ely(2-1, 0-1) heads to Georgia in a week to take on the Lowndes Vikings. 

West Boca Raton Blanks Spanish River

      It was a crosstown rivalry in Boca Raton as the West Boca Raton Bulls shut out the Spanish River Sharks 37-0 on Friday night. The Bulls are the reigning two-time FHSAA Class 6A state champions. 

     West Boca Raton(2-0) charged out of the gate in the first quarter and had a 9-0 advantage. The Bulls added another touchdown early in the second quarter to go up 16-0. Spanish River(1-2) gave up a touchdown late in the second and trailed 23-0. The Bulls found the end zone two more times during the second half and led 37-0. 

Richie Incognito Starts Company & Podcast

     Former Miami Dolphins offensive lineman Richie Incognito has formed his own media company Point Of Attack Media. He has launched the Initial Contact podcast with Christian Fauria. 

    Incognito once had a stint with the Dolphins. He played in 55 games during four seasons with the Fins from 2010 to 2013. Incognito was suspended by Miami in November 2013 and never participated in another game with that club. 

Miami Central Wallops St. Brendan

     The Miami Central Rockets bashed the St. Brendan Sabres 43-7 on Thursday night at Traz Powell Stadium in a District 16-3A clash. It was one of five high school football games played in Dade County tonight. 

     Miami Central(2-0, 1-0) blasted out to a 21-0 lead in the opening quarter. St. Brendan(0-3, 0-1) kept pace with them getting seven points and they were down 28-7 at halftime. The Rockets scored two touchdowns during the third quarter to make it 43-7.

Palm Beach Central Controls Dr. Joaquin Garcia

     The Palm Beach Central Broncos took the Dr. Joaquin Garcia Bulldogs 26-12 at Bronco Stadium on Thursday night in a District 13-6A contest. Both high schools reached the postseason last year.

     Palm Beach Central(3-0, 1-0) rushed out to a 17-0 lead by halftime. Dr. Joaquin Garcia(1-2, 0-1) responded with 12 points during the third quarter. The Broncos added a touchdown and a field goal later in the second half for a 14-point margin. 

Kevin Austin Remains With Saints

     Former Broward County high school football wide receiver Kevin Austin has been moved to the New Orleans Saints practice squad. He has been with them over the past two seasons and participated in 16 games. 

     Austin split his time in high school football with Western and North Broward Prep. He played college football with Notre Dame. 

Royals Dethrone Marlins

     The Kansas City Royals disposed the Miami Marlins 7-3 on Thursday night at Kauffman Stadium. The Marlins concluded a seven-game road trip and will begin a homestand against the Chicago Cubs on Friday. 

     Miami(71-70) chalked up one run in the first inning and one run in the second inning to lead 2-0. Kansas City(63-78) tied it 2-2 with two runs during the third inning. The Royals would go ahead 4-3 in the bottom of the fifth. They piled on three runs in the bottom of the eighth and pulled away 7-3. 

Alphonso Smith Jr. Passes Away

     One-time Palm Beach County high school football player and Pahokee native Alphonso Smith Jr. passed away at the age of 40 in Florida on Wednesday. According to police reports, he committed suicide. 

     Smith played high school football with the Pahokee Blue Devils as a quarterback and cornerback. He led the team to a FHSAA Class 2B state championship in 2003. Smith attended Wake Forest University and participate in college football from 2004 until 2008. 

     He was taken 37th overall in the second round of the 2009 NFL Draft by the Denver Broncos as a defensive back. Smith played his rookie season with Denver in 2009 and then was with the Detroit Lions for three seasons from 2010 to 2012. 

Chargers Add Kaiir Elam

     The Los Angeles Chargers have added former Palm Beach County high school defensive back Kaiir Elam to their practice squad. He was released by the Kansas City Chiefs this past Saturday. 

     Elam was with the Benjamin Buccaneers during high school football. He landed at the University of Florida for college football. 

Kevin Knowles To Buccaneers

     One-time Broward County high school football Kevin Knowles has been claimed off the waiver wire by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He was placed on waivers by the Kansas City Chiefs. Knowles participated as a defensive back in 13 games with the Chiefs during his rookie season in 2025. 

     Knowles played in high school football with the McArthur Mustangs. He moved on to the Florida State University Seminoles for college football. 

Austin Slater Re-Signs With Rays

     Former Miami Marlins outfielder Austin Slater has re-signed a minor league contract with the Tampa Bay Rays. He optioned out of his minor league deal with that club on August 25. 

     Slater began the 2026 regular season with the Marlins. He finished with one run batted in and a .174 batting average in 12 contests with the Fish. 

Cam Riley & Jeremiah Franklin Released

     The Miami Dolphins have released two players from their practice squad. They are linebacker Cam Riley and tight end Jeremiah Franklin. 

     Riley played with Auburn University from 2020 to 2023 followed by Florida State University in 2024. Franklin spent four years at Boston College from 2022 until 2025. 

Rangers Ink John King

     The Texas Rangers have signed relief pitcher John King to a minor league contract. It will be his second stint with that organization. King was with them from 2020 until 2023. 

     King pitched 50 games for the Miami Marlins during the 2026 campaign. He was released by the Fish last week. 

Xavier Restrepo Back With Titans

     Former Broward County high school football wide receiver Xavier Restrepo has returned to the Tennessee Titans. He signed a contract to join their practice squad. Restrepo got to see NFL action in two games with the Titans last season. 

     Restrepo played his first three years of high school football with the St. Thomas Aquinas. He contributed to STA winning the FHSAA Class 7A state championship in 2016 during his junior year. He transferred to the Deerfield Beach Bucks for his senior season. 

Marlins Outpace Royals

     The Miami Marlins outlasted the Kansas City Royals 9-6 at Kauffman Stadium on Wednesday night. The Marlins will complete their seven-game road swing tomorrow. 

     Miami(71-69) rocketed out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first. Kansas City(62-78) answered back quickly compiling five runs in the bottom of the first for a 5-2 advantage. 

     The Marlins slowly climbed back into the contest during the middle innings. The Fish placed three runs in the sixth inning and regained the lead 7-6. They were able to add two insurance runs in the top of the ninth for a three-run margin. 

Mazi Smith On Dolphins Practice Squad

     The Miami Dolphins have picked up free agent defensive lineman Mazi Smith. He was released by the New York Jets on Saturday. 

     Smith was selected 26th overall in the first round of the 2023 NFL Draft by the Dallas Cowboys. He was with them for three seasons until the Cowboys traded him to the Jets in November 2025. 

WQAM On SiriusXM Radio

      The signal on 104.3 Sports WQAM-FM and sister-station 560 WQAM-AM appeared on the airwaves of SiriusXM Radio beginning today. The WQAM signal is on the SiriusXM app and does not have its own satellite radio channel. 

     Audacy agreed in July to have all of their branded and owned terrestrial sports talk radio stations placed on SiriusXM Radio. Nine Audacy terrestrial sports stations from different cities picked up their own channel such as New York, Philadelphia, Boston, Chicago, San Francisco, Dallas, Detroit, Pittsburgh and Cleveland. 15 other Audacy terrestrial sports stations, which included WQAM, has a spot on the SiriusXM app. 

Marlins Crown Royals

     The Miami Marlins pulled by the Kansas City Royals 6-3 at Kauffman Stadium on Tuesday night. The Fish continued their seven- game road trip. 

     It may be the final visit by the Marlins to that ballpark. The Royals will be moving out of that venue in a couple of years.

     Miami(70-69) pushed out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the second. Graham Pauley socked a two-run homer to right field on a 1-1 count with Owen Caissie aboard. It was just the second home run by Pauley this year. 

     The Marlins increased their lead to 3-0 in the top of the fifth. Kyle Stowers pounded a solo home run to right field on a 0-1 pitch for his 17th homer of the season. 

     Kansas City(62-77) surrendered three more runs in the seventh inning and trailed 6-0. Pauley knocked in Otto Lopez and Joe Mack with a triple into the right-center field gap. Javier Sanoja followed with a base hit into left field and Pauley crossed the plate. 

     The Royals broke the shutout in the bottom of the eighth with two runs and were down 6-2. Carter Jensen doubled off the left-field wall and Josh Rojas touched home. Bobby Witt Jr. followed with a sacrifice fly to left field and Isaac Collins scored. 

     In the ninth inning, Kansas City cut it to 6-2. Nick Loftin bashed a solo homer to left field on a 0-1 pitch for his seventh home run of the campaign. 

Phillip Dorsett Released By Raiders

     Former Broward County high school football wide receiver Phillip Dorsett has been released by the Las Vegas Raiders. It was a surprise considering that he attended the St. Thomas Aquinas game in Fort Lauderdale on Saturday night. He has not played in a National Football League game since 2023. 

     Dorsett played high school football with St. Thomas Aquinas. He contributed to the Raiders winning two FHSAA state titles and two national championships in 2008 and 2010. He later attended the University of Miami for college football. 

     He was selected by the Indianapolis Colts 29th overall in the first round of the 2015 NFL Draft. Dorsett won a Super Bowl title in 2018 during his stint with the New England Patriots. 

Chiefs Releasing Kaiir Elam

     The Kansas City Chiefs are releasing defensive back Kaiir Elam. He joined their organization as a free agent in early April. 

     Elam played high school football with the Benjamin Buccaneers. He later attended the University of Florida for college football. 

     He was taken 23rd overall in the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft by the Buffalo Bills. Elam was there for three seasons before splitting his time with the Dallas Cowboys and Tennessee Titans in 2025. 

Bobby Hart On Seahawks Practice Squad

     The Seattle Seahawks have re-signed offensive lineman Bobby Hart and have placed him on their practice squad. He was released by the organization back on Tuesday. Hart signed a contract with the team back in June. 

     Hart played the first three seasons high school football with the Cardinal Gibbons Chiefs. He won a FHSAA Class 5A state championship and a national championship with the St. Thomas Aquinas Raiders during his senior year in 2010. Hart spent four seasons of college football with the Florida State University Seminoles. 

Travis Homer Moved By Steelers

     Running back Travis Homer has been placed on the Pittsburgh Steelers on their practice squad. He was released by the club on Monday and then re-signed by them. Homer originally signed a contract with the Steelers in March. 

     Homer was with the Oxbridge Academy Thunderwolves playing high school football. He landed with the University of Miami Hurricanes for college football. Homer was with the Seattle Seahawks from 2019 to 2022 and the Chicago Bears from 2023 until 2025. 

Frank Gore Jr. On Waivers

     The Buffalo Bills have placed running back Frank Gore Jr. on the waiver wire. He did not participate in a contest with the Bills last season. 

     He played high school football with the Miami Killian Cougars. Gore is the son of former University of Miami Hurricanes and Miami Dolphins running back Frank Gore.

Joe Milton On Cowboys Practice Squad

     The Dallas Cowboys are placing quarterback Joe Milton on their practice squad. He got to play in four games last season with the team. He was selected in the sixth round of the 2024 NFL Draft by the New England Patriots and showed up for one contest that year. 

     Milton, a Pahokee native, played high school football with the Pahokee Blue Devils and then with Olympia Titans in Orlando. He split his time in college football with the University of Michigan Wolverines and the University of Tennessee Volunteers. 

49ers Drop Eli Apple

     Defensive back Eli Apple has been released by the San Francisco 49ers. He participated in just two contests with the Niners. 

     Apple was with the Miami Dolphins during the 2023 campaign. He ended up with one interception in 10 games with the Fins. 

Falcons Eliminate Channing Tindall

     The Atlanta Falcons have released linebacker Channing Tindall. He signed a contract with that club back in March. 

     Tindall was taken by the Miami Dolphins during the third round of the 2022 NFL Draft by the Miami Dolphins. He played 44 games with the Fins over three seasons from 2022 to 2024. 

Dolphins Sign Malik Herring

     The Miami Dolphins have added to their roster before the regular season. They have inked defensive lineman Malik Herring. 

     He has played 28 games for the Kansas City Chiefs over the last four seasons from 2022 until 2025. Herring contributed to the Chiefs capturing two Super Bowl titles. 

Players On Dolphins Practice Squad

      The Miami Dolphins have finalized their 53-man roster. They decided on who would be placed on their practice squad. 

      Players placed included wide receiver Jalen Reagor, quarterback Mark Gronowski, tight end Jeremiah Franklin and newly acquired running back Jacquez Hunter. Others on the squad were running back Carlos Washington, safety Major Burns, linebacker Cam Riley and offensive lineman Gottlieb Ayedze.

Dolphins Claim Seven Players

     The Miami Dolphins have claimed seven players off waivers from other NFL team. All 32 NFL rosters had to reach the 53-player limit on Monday for the upcoming 2026 regular season. 

     The most recognized player the Dolphins got was quarterback Brady Cook from the New York Jets. Other players claimed includes defensive back Julius Wood, defensive back Reese Taylor, defensive back Marcellas Dial, tight end Justin Joly, offensive lineman Jarrett Kingston and offensive lineman Chukwuebuka Godrick.  

Dolphins Clelin Ferrell To Practice Squad

     The Miami Dolphins have moved edge rusher Clelin Ferrell to their practice squad. The Fins had released him just a couple of days ago. 

     Ferrell has been in the NFL since the 2019 seasons. His stops include the Oakland Raiders, Las Vegas Raiders, San Francisco 49ers(twice), Washington Nationals and Los Angeles Chargers. 

Dolphins Release A.J. Green

     The Miami Dolphins have released defensive back A.J. Green. He was trying to make the 53-player roster for the 2026 regular season. 

Dolphins Waive Six Players

     The Miami Dolphins placed six players on waivers. They will look to see if any of them will be claimed by another NFL club.

     They include defensive back Ethan Bonner, wide receiver A.J. Henning and offensive lineman Marques Cox. Others are offensive lineman Max Llewllyn, edge rusher Josh Priebe and tight end Ben Sims. 

Jets Release Jason Sanders

     The New York Jets have let go former Miami Dolphins kicker Jason Sanders. He was announced to be their primary kicker by the club last week. 

     Sanders played his entire seven-year NFL career with the Dolphins from 2018 to 2024. He did not participate with Miami during the 2024 season due to an injury. 

Dolphins Trade For Kyle McCord

     The Miami Dolphins acquired quarterback Kyle McCord from the Green Bay Packers. The Fins send back a 2028 sixth-round pick. 

     McCord participated in college football with Ohio State and then Syracuse. He was selected in the seventh round of the 2025 NFL Draft by the Philadelphia Eagles. McCord did not game in a contest last year. 

Dolphins Letting Go Cam Miller

     The Miami Dolphins are releasing quarterback Cam Miller. He was fighting along with several others for the backup quarterback position. 

     Miller inked a contract with a Miami as an undrafted free agent. He played college football with Penn State from 2022 to 2024 and Rutgers in 2025. 

Dolphins Dumping Tyrel Dodson & Lonnie Johnson Jr.

     The Miami Dolphins moved to release more players from their roster. They looked to reach the 53-player mark by Monday.

     The Fins released veteran linebacker Tyrel Dodson and defensive back Lonnie Johnson, Jr. Dodson played 24 games in the past two seasons with Miami. Johnson has bounced around the NFL since 2019.
