2026 NBA Cup Groups Set
The National Basketball Association announced the teams in the six groups of the NBA Cup. The championship game will be held at Hinkle Fieldhouse on the campus of Butler University in Indianapolis on December 11.
Tim Hardaway Jr. Signing With Heat
The Miami Heat will be signing guard Tim Hardaway Jr. It is expected to be a one-year deal that is worth $6.065 million. His father Tim Hardaway played for the Heat from 1995-96 to 2000-01 and had his number 10 jersey retired by the organization.
Hardaway Jr. played high school basketball with the Miami Palmetto Panthers. He went on to the University of Michigan for college basketball.
He has been in the NBA for 13 seasons. Hardaway had stints with the New York Knicks(twice), Atlanta Hawks, Dallas Mavericks. Detroit Pistons and Denver Nuggets.
Ducks Ink A.J. Greer
The Anaheim Ducks have signed center A.J. Greer to a four-year contract worth $17 million. They acquired his signing rights from the Florida Panthers for the signing rights of captain/defenseman Radko Gudas yesterday.
Greer played with the Panthers for the last two seasons and compiled 49 points in 159 games. He helped win a Stanley Cup championship in 2025.
Rays Get Back Austin Slater
Austin Slater is back with the Tampa Bay Rays by re-signing a minor league contract with the organization. He will report to the Rays Triple A affiliate at Durham.
Slater started the 2026 season with the Miami Marlins and had a .174 batting average in 12 games. He then had stints with the New York Mets followed by the Tampa Bay Rays.
Precious Achiuwa Re-Signing With Kings
One-time Miami Heat forward Precious Achiuwa is expected to re-sign with the Sacramento Kings. It is a two-year contract that is worth $11.5 million.
Achiuwa broke in the NBA with the Heat in 2020-21 and average five points per game in 61 contests during his rookie campaign.
He had stints with the Toronto Raptors and the New York Knicks. Achiuwa spent last season with the Kings and chalked up a career-high 10.1 points per game.
LeBron James Leaving Lakers
Former Miami Heat forward LeBron James will be leaving the Los Angeles Lakers and will not re-sign with them for next season. James finished up an eight-season tenure with the team and helped them capture their 17th overall NBA championship in 2020 over the Miami Heat.
James played four seasons with the Heat from 2010-11 until 2013-14. He led the club to two NBA titles in 2012 and 2013 along with four consecutive Eastern Conference championships from 2011 to 2014.
Jacob Markstrom Reunites With Panthers
The Florida Panthers made a trade with the New Jersey Devils on Tuesday. The Panthers reacquired goalie Jacob Markstrom along with left wing Agnes Crookshank from the Devils for right wing Evan Rodrigues, center Jesper Boqvist and forward Ben Steeves.
It is a return for Markstrom to Florida. His first stint with the club was from 2010-11 to 2013-14 and he then was dealt in March 2014 to the Vancouver Canucks for Roberto Luongo. Markstrom had a 11-25-5 record, .893 save percentage and a 3.21 goals-against-average with the Panthers.
Rodrigues captured two Stanley Cup championships with the Panthers in 2024 and 2025. Boqvist won one Stanley Cup title with the Cats in 2025.
Simone Fontecchio Inking With Heat
Miami Heat forward Simone Fontecchio will be staying with the club. He will sign a new one-year contract with the team for the 2026-27 season.
Fontecchio joined the Heat for the 2025-26 campaign. He finished with 8.5 points and three rebounds per game in 70 games with them last season.
Kevyn Adams Joining Bruins
One-time Florida Panthers center Kevyn Adams will be joining the front office staff of the Boston Bruins. He recently was the Buffalo Sabres general manager for about four years until December 2025.
Adams participated with the Panthers for two seasons in 2000-01 and 2001-02. He had 21 points in 56 contests with Florida.
Ray Whitney Back In NHL
Former Florida Panthers center Ray Whitney has returned to the National Hockey League. He has been named an assistant coach with the Los Angeles Kings and will work under new head coach Peter Laviolette.
The last time Whitney was involved in the NHL was as a pro scout with the Carolina Hurricanes from 2015 until 2018. He was part of the Phoenix Jr. Coyotes AAA team staff for much of the 2020s.
Whitney played for the Panthers from 1997-98 to 2000-01. He compiled 97 goals and 130 assists for 227 points in 273 contests with Florida. Whitney later captured a Stanley Cup title with the Carolina Hurricanes in 2005-06.
Christopher Morel Off To Mets
Former Miami Marlins player Christopher Morel has inked a minor league contract with the New York Mets. He was released by the Marlins earlier this week.
Morel spent time with Miami to begin the 2026 regular season. He ended up with no home runs, one run batted in and a .162 batting average in 22 games.
Marlins Bury Rockies
The Miami Marlins clobbered Colorado Rockies 14-3 on Tuesday night at Coors Field. The Marlins, who are in the middle of their 10-game road swing, compiled at least 20 wins in a month for just the second time in franchise history.
Miami(46-40) and Colorado(33-53) both scored one run in the first inning for a 1-1 tie. The Marlins added one run in the second and third runs in the third for a 5-1 advantage.
The Fish picked up a larger margin in the middle of the contest. Miami scored three runs during the top of the sixth. two runs in the top of the seven and three runs in the top of the eighth for a 13-2 lead.

Dru Smith Remains With Heat
The Miami Heat will to pay the $2.58 million salary to guard Dru Smith for the 2026-27 campaign. The Heat decided not to waive Smith by Sunday and guarantee his salary for next season.
Smith has been with the Heat organization for the past four years. He participated in a career-high 70 contests last season and averaged 5.6 points per game.
Akira Schmid Traded To Panthers
The Florida Panthers made another trade as they received goalie Akira Schmid from the Vegas Golden Knights for a 2027 third-round pick. The Panthers made an initial decision for their goaltending next season.
Schmid played his first three seasons with the New Jersey Devils from 2021-22 to 2023-24. He was with Vegas for the last two seasons. Schmid played a career-high 34 games last season with the Golden Knights and ended up with a 16-10-6 record.
Andrew Wiggins Staying With Heat
Andrew Wiggins will be remaining with the Miami Heat. He has exercised a player option worth $25.7 million for the 2026-27 million. In addition, Wiggins is expected to a agree to an additional two-year extension to begin in 2027-28.
Wiggins was traded from the Golden State Warriors to the Heat for Jimmy Butler in February 2025. He had a 15.4 points per game in 68 contests last season with Miami.
Chris Paddack Going To Rangers
One-time Miami Marlins starting pitcher Chris Paddack is expected to sign a deal with the Texas Rangers. He will be joining his third team this year.
Paddack began the 2026 campaign with the Marlins. He finished up with a 0-5 record and a 7.63 earned run average with the Fish.
Panthers Reacquire Radko Gudas
The Florida Panthers pulled off a trade in which they acquired the signing rights to defenseman Radko Gudas from the Anaheim Ducks for the signing rights to center A.J. Greer. Both players can become unrestricted free agent on Wednesday.
Gudas once played for the Panthers for three seasons from 2020-21 until 2022-23. He compiled 44 points in 203 contests with the Cats. He helped the team win an Eastern Conference title back in 2023.
Greer joined the Panthers in July 2024 as a free agent and had 49 points in 159 games over the course of two seasons. He contributed to Florida capturing their second Stanley Cup championship in 2025.
Marlins Outscore Rockies
The Miami Marlins outdueled the Colorado Rockies 10-7 at Coors Field on Monday night. It was the first contest of a four-game series between both teams.
Miami(45-40) walked out to a 2-0 advantage in the top of the second. Colorado(33-52) answered back with three runs in the bottom of the second and two runs during the bottom of the third for a 5-2 lead.
The Marlins piled on more runs later in the game and led 10-5. The Fish scored four runs in the fifth inning and added another four runs in the seventh inning.

Marlins Cut Christopher Morel
The Miami Marlins have released Christopher Morel. He was sent to the Marlins Triple-A affiliate in Jacksonville last week.
Morel joined the Marlins as a free agent in December 2025. He finished with a .162 batting average in 22 games this season with Miami.
Cardinals Avoid Sweep To Marlins
The Miami Marlins lost to the St. Louis Cardinals 2-1 at Busch Stadium on Sunday. The Fish outscored the Redbirds 10-3 in the three-game series.
The Marlins, who had their four-game winning streak snapped, attempted to sweep the Cardinals in St. Louis for the first time in the last 30 years. The Redbirds snapped a four-game losing streak. The Cards have won six of their past 16 games.
St. Louis(43-38) got their first lead in the weekend series during the bottom of the second. Bryan Torres lifted a two-run homer on a 2-0 pitch barely over the right-field wall with Mason Wynn on board. It turned out to be third career home run for Torres.
Miami(44-40) closed it to 2-1 in the top of the fifth. Graham Pauley connected with a ground-rule double to the right-field corner and Owen Caissie reached home.

Lionel Messi & Argentina Answer Jordan
Argentina handled Jordan 3-1 on Saturday night at Dallas Stadium. It was a Group J game between both nations where Argentina had already clinched first place prior to this game.
In the upcoming Round of 32, Argentina will take on Cape Verde in Miami on Friday. Jordan finished their first World Cup tournament and will not be involved in the knockout stage.
Inter Miami CF midfielder Lionel Messi did not start for the Argentine squad. He did come on as a substitute during the 60th minute of play. Herons midfielder Rodrigo De Paul also did not start for Argentina.
In the first half, Argentina raced out to a 1-0 advantage in the 19th minute. Giovani Lo Celso was able to get the tally.
It became 2-0 for Argentina in the 31st minute. Lautero Martinez drilled a penalty kick into the left side of the net.
Jordan cut the deficit to 2-1 in the 55th minute. They angled a pass from the right side and Mousa Al-Tamari made a sliding shot with his left foot from seven yards out.
Argentina expanded their lead to 3-1 during the 80th minute. Messi was grabbed and taken down for a penalty. He then powered a left-footed direct kick from 26 yards away into the low left corner of the cage. Messi became the first player in history to score in seven consecutive World Cup tournament game appearances. It was his tournament-leading sixth goal of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. He extended his all-time World Cup record to 19 goals.
Portugal Ties Columbia
Columbia tied Portugal 0-0 at Miami Stadium on Saturday night in a Group K clash. It was the last match of four games in the group stage of the tournament held in South Florida.
It resulted with Columbia winning Group K. They will face Ghana in Kansas City on Friday during the Round of 32. Portugal ended with second place in the group and will challenge Croatia in the knockout stage on Thursday in Toronto.
There was one player with a South Florida connection that played in the game. Inter Miami CF striker Luis Suarez entered the contest for Columbia in the 60th minute of play.
Panthers Complete NHL Draft
The second day of the 2026 NHL Draft happened at KeyBank Center on Saturday. It went from the second round to the seventh round.
The Florida Panthers make their selections at the NHL Draft. The Cats had two draft picks during the second round. They selected Geneve-Servette(Swiss) right wing Simas Ignatavicius at 40th overall and North Bay(OHL) center Ryder Cali at 48th overall. The next player Florida decided on was Chicago(USHL) defenseman Jonas Kemps at 98th overall in the fourth round.
The Panthers drafted Tappara Jr.(Finland) right wing Vilho Vanhatalo at 168th overall and Owen Sound(OHL) right wing Cole Zurawski at 181th overall in the sixth round. The Cats chose Newfoundland(QMJHL) goalie Louis-Antoine Denault in the seventh round at 217th overall.
Marlins Breeze By Cardinals
The Miami Marlins rushed by the St. Louis Cardinals 5-1 on Saturday night at Busch Stadium. The Marlins look to sweep the three-game series tomorrow.
Miami(43-39) roared out to a 1-0 lead in the opening frame. Kyle Stowers knocked in Otto Lopez with a base hit into right field.
It became 2-0 for the Marlins in the third inning. Stowers singled up the middle and Joe Mack crossed the plate.
The Fish expanded it to 4-0 during the top of the fourth with two more runs. Javier Sanoja drove in Jakob Marsee on a single through the right side. Two batters later, Xavier Edwards got a base hit through the left side and Sanoja reached home.
St. Louis(42-38) broke the shutout in the bottom of the sixth to make it 4-1. Mason Wynn singled through the right side for Jordan Walker to score.
In the seventh inning, Miami increased it to 5-1. Lopez picked up a single into right field and Edwards scored.

Florida Panthers No First Round Pick
The 2026 NHL Draft opened up at KeyBank Center in Buffalo on Friday night with the first round. All 32 teams with their hockey operations personnel were not seated on the arena floor and the draft process was not centralized for the second straight year.
The Florida Panthers did not have a first-round selection in this year's NHL Draft. The club traded the ninth overall pick and the 25th overall pick to the Ottawa Senators for center Brady Tkachuk this past Sunday.
Marlins Blank Cardinals
The Miami Marlins shut out the St. Louis Cardinals 4-0 at Busch Stadium on Friday night. The Marlins began a 10-game road trip.
Neither team scored in the first seven innings of the contest. Miami(43-39) moved in front 2-0 in the top of the eighth. Graham Pauley doubled down the right-field line and Esteury Ruiz reached home. Four batters later, Kyle Stowers grounded out to first base with the bases loaded and Pauley crossed the plate.
St. Louis(42-37) surrendered two more runs during the ninth and trailed 4-0. Jakob Marsee singled into center field for Joe Mack and Ruiz to score.

Doc Reno Out At Big 105.9 WBGG-FM
Longtime Big 105.9 WBGG-FM afternoon host Doc Reno had his position eliminated by iHeartMedia due to budget cuts. WBGG is the flagship radio station of the Miami Dolphins.
He hosted his ninth annual Doc Reno's Wingsfest in Margate on Saturday. Reno will continue as an on-site disc jockey for the Broward County Ohio State University Buckeyes Football Booster Club at Buffalo Wild Wings in Coral Springs.
Reno entered professional broadcasting in March 1984. One of his first jobs was as a disc jockey at KRLB-FM in Lubbock. He eventually landed in Cleveland and had a long reign as a disc jockey at WJMO-FM.
He would arrive at what was known as Big 106 WBGG-FM in July 2002. Reno had two stints at that radio station as an afternoon host.
Reno held the midday host post at WRLX-FM and part-time duties at WHDR-FM. He did his program on several different iHeartMedia radio stations throughout the United States including evenings on WBIG-FM in Washington D.C.
He hosted a nationally syndicated late night show The Red Eye Rock Lounge since 2009. Reno also has been part of the iHeartRadio Classic Rock Channel as an evening host and Saturday afternoon host.
Garnet Hathaway Dealt To Panthers
The Florida Panthers have acquired veteran right wing Garnet Hathaway and a 2026 sixth-round selection from the Philadelphia Flyers for a 2026 fifth-round pick and a 2027 fourth-round pick. The Panthers will pay Hathaway half of his $2.4 million salary for 2026-27 while the Flyers will pay the other half to him.
Hathaway, a Naples native, has spent 11 seasons in the National Hockey League. He had one goal and two assists for three points in 66 games with the Flyers last season.
Heat Signing Tre Donaldson
The Miami Heat will be signing undrafted guard Tre Donaldson to a two-way contract. The agreement will not become official until July.
Donaldson was a star high school athlete in Tallahassee with the Florida State University High Seminoles. He was the starting quarterback when they faced the Chaminade-Madonna Lions in the 2021 FHSAA Class 3A state semifinals in Hollywood.
He entered college athletics for two seasons with the Auburn University Tigers. Donaldson was with the University of Michigan Wolverines in 2024-25 and the University of Miami Hurricanes in 2025-26. He averaged 16.4 points per game in 35 contests with the Canes last season.
Chris Paddack Gone From Reds
Former Miami Marlins pitcher Chris Paddack is no longer with the Cincinnati Reds. He refused a demotion to the minors and elected to become a free agent. He made six appearances with the Reds and had a 6.03 earned run average.
Paddack joined the Marlins for his second stint with the organization. He had a 0-5 record and a 7.63 earned run average in seven games earlier this season with the Fish.
United States Upended By Turkiye
The United States were surprised by Turkiye 3-2 in Los Angeles Stadium on Thursday night in the 2026 World Cup. It was the final match for both nations in Group D. The United States lost their first World Cup game where they scored the opening goal since 1950.
The U.S. had already clinched first place in the group stage after two contests. The Americans will face Bosnia and Herzegovina in the Round of 32 on July 1 at San Francisco Bay Area Stadium.
The United States rocketed out to a 1-0 lead in the third minute of play. Sebastian Berhalter took a corner kick from the left side. Auston Trusty trapped the ball and half-volleyed the ball into the net from seven yards out with his left foot. It was the second-fastest goal by the U.S. to begin a World Cup game.
Turkiye answered back in the 10th minute to tie it up 1-1. Arda Guler placed in a left-footed shot from eight yards away into the right side of the cage.
It became 2-1 for Turkiye during the 31st minute. Orkun Kokcu received a pass from the end line and one-timed a shot from six yards with his right foot. It was the first time in the 2026 FIFA World Cup tournament that the Americans trailed in a contest.
In the second half, the United States evened it up 2-2 in the 49th minute. Berhalter rifled a half-volley, right-footed shot from 18 yards away into the low left corner of the net.
Turkiye scored the game-winning goal in the final minute of stoppage time at the end of the second half to make it 3-2. Ayhan tapped the ball in from three yards out with his right foot.
Heat Pick Up Pelle Larsson Team Option
The Miami Heat have decided to exercise the team option on guard Pelle Larsson. He will be paid $2.3 million for the 2026-27 campaign.
Larsson was selected by the Heat in the second round of the 2024 NBA Draft. He averaged 11.4 points, 3.4 assists and 3.5 rebounds per game with Miami in 70 contests last season.

Malachi Toney On Phil Steele Magazine Cover
University of Miami Hurricanes wide receiver Malachi Toney is on the front cover of the annual Phil Steele's College Football Preview magazine for 2026. He appears on their Southeast region magazine cover.
Toney played high school football with the American Heritage Patriots. He contributed to them winning a FHSAA Class 4A state championship in 2024.
He is entering his sophomore season with the Hurricanes. Toney helped the Canes reached the 2025 CFP National Championship Game against Indiana University in January.
Sid Rosenberg New York Broadcasters Hall Of Fame
One-time South Florida sports talk radio host Sid Rosenberg has been named to the New York State Broadcasters Association Hall of Fame. He will be inducted later on October 22.
Rosenberg had stints at several South Florida radio stations over a 10-year period. He was at Sports Talk 790 The Ticket WAXY-AM from the Fall of 2005 until May 2009. Rosenberg then worked at Sports Radio 560 WQAM-AM from August 2009 to April 2012. He moved on to 640 Sports WMEN-AM as the morning host from August 2012 to December 2015.
He has been employed at WABC-AM in New York City since January 2016. Rosenberg first co-hosted late mornings with Bernard McGuirk until March 2018. Both replaced Don Imus in morning drive in April 2018. Rosenberg has been the morning host since McGuirk passed away in October 2022.
Rosenberg began his broadcasting career as a sports co-host with Scott Kaplan at CBS Sportsline.com in Fort Lauderdale They both moved to New York City and worked mornings at WNEW-FM. Rosenberg joined Imus In The Morning on WFAN-AM as the morning sports anchor in the early 2000s and stayed there until September 2005.
Brazil Blasts Scotland
Brazil bashed Scotland 3-0 in a Group C contest at Miami Stadium on Wednesday night. Brazil clinched first place in Group C and moved on to the Round of 32 knockout round.
In the first half, Brazil struck early in the seventh minute for a 1-0 advantage. Scotland turned the ball over in their own penalty area. Vinicius Jr. got to the loose ball, moved around the goalkeeper and tapped the ball in with his right foot from eight yards away.
Brazil increased their lead to 2-0 during stoppage time at the end of the first half. They made a cross from the right side of the box and Vinicius Jr. placed in a header from three yards into the left side of the cage. It was his fourth goal of the 2026 World Cup and his sixth international goal scored on United States soil.
It became 3-0 for Brazil in the 60th minute of play. Matheus Cunha released a 10-yard shot with his right foot into the right side of the net.
Neymar Jr. came into the contest substituting for Cunha during the 76th minute. It was his first game for the Brazil national team since October 2023.
Heat Finish 2026 NBA Draft
The 2026 NBA Draft concluded on Wednesday night at Barclays Center in Brooklyn. It involved the second round of selections.
The Miami Heat had exchange second-round picks with the Oklahoma City Thunder. The Thunder selected University of Louisville guard Ryan Conwell at 37th overall for the Heat. Miami later decided on University of Kentucky guard Otega Oweh at 41st overall for Oklahoma City.
Marlins Ride By Rangers
The Miami Marlins knocked down the Texas Rangers 4-2 on Wednesday at loanDepot park. Both teams reached the midway point of the 2026 regular season. The Marlins finished off a six-game homestand and will visit the St. Louis Cardinals on Friday.
Texas(38-42) rolled out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the fourth. Wyatt Langford cracked a solo home run to center field on the first pitch for his seventh homer of the year.
Miami(42-39) tied it 1-1 in the bottom of the fourth. Griffin Conine doubled into right field and Otto Lopez raced home.

2026 NBA Draft
The 2026 NBA Draft was held at Barclays Center in Brooklyn on Tuesday night. The first round happened tonight.
The Miami Heat selected University of Tennessee forward Nick Ament with the 13th overall pick. He is expected to be a part of the eventual trade where Ament will be sent by the Heat along with Tyler Herro, Kel'el Ware and Kasparas Jakucionis to the Milwaukee Bucks for Giannis Antetokounmpo and Bobby Portis.
Miami Heat Acquire Giannis Antetokounmpo
The Milwaukee Bucks have traded center Giannis Antetokounmpo, forward Bobby Portis and a 2030 first-round selection to the Miami Heat. The Heat give the Bucks guard Tyler Herro, center Kel'el Ware, forward Jaime Jaquez Jr., guard Kasparas Jakucionis, 2026 first-round pick(13th overall), 2030 first-round pick, 2031 first-round pick, 2033 first-round pick and 2033 second-round pick. The deal will not be declared official until July 6.
Antetokounmpo has played his entire 13-season NBA career with Milwaukee and is a two-time NBA Most Valuable Player. He and Portis led the Bucks to the NBA championship in 2021 after a 50-year title drought.
Herro, who has played seven seasons, is the most-known player that the Heat traded. He helped the franchise win two Eastern Conference titles and reach the NBA Finals in 2020 and 2023. The Heat dealt their past three first-round selections in the NBA Draft. Jaquez was with Miami for three seasons, Ware was there for two seasons and Jakucionis just finished his rookie season.
Bills Place Desmond Reid On Waivers
The Buffalo Bills have waived former Broward County high school football running back Desmond Reid. He inked a contract with the Bills earlier this year.
Reid played high school football with the Miramar Patriots. He split his time in college football participating with Western Carolina University from 2022 to 2023 and the University of Pittsburgh Panthers from 2024 to 2025.
Saints Waive Damien Alford
The New Orleans Saints have waived former Broward County high school football wide receiver Damien Alford. He signed a reserve/futures contract with the Saints back in January.
Alford participated in high school football with the McArthur Mustangs. He played four seasons with Syracuse University from 2020 to 2023 and one season with the University of Utah in 2024.
He was the first overall selection in the 2025 CFL Draft by the Calgary Stampeders. Alford compiled 20 catches for 407 receiving yards and five touchdowns last season.
Sandy Alcantara Sets Strikeout Mark, Marlins Win
Sandy Alcantara became the all-time strikeout leader in Marlins franchise history as the Miami Marlins march by the Texas Rangers 6-4 at loanDepot park on Tuesday night. The Marlins will complete their six-game homestand tomorrow.
The Fish have been victorious in eight of their last nine home contests. They have the Major League Baseball best record in the month of June with a 15-5 record.
Texas(38-41) took a 1-0 lead during the top of the second. Nicky Lopez grounded out to first with the bases loaded and Alejandro Osuna touched home.

The Marlins moved ahead 2-1 in the fourth inning. Joe Mack hammered a solo home run to right field on a 3-0 pitch for his fourth homer in the majors.
It became 6-1 for the Fish in the bottom of the fifth as they added four more runs. Owen Caissie belted a three-run homer down the right-field line on the first pitch with Otto Lopez and Xavier Edwards aboard. It turned out to be Caissie's ninth home run in a Marlins uniform. Two batters later, Mack knocked in Hernandez with a base hit through the left side.
Alcantara passed Ricky Nolasco for first place in Marlins history with his 1,002nd strikeout in the top of the seventh. He was able to strike out Rangers catcher Kyle Higashioka.
The Rangers closed it to 6-2 in the eighth inning when Brandon Nimmo smacked a solo home run to right-center field on a 0-2 count. It was Nimmo's 18th career homer against the Marlins.
Texas added two runs in the top of the ninth and were down 6-4. Joc Pederson lined a solo homer over the right-field fence on a 2-2 pitch for his 10th home run in 2026. Two batters later, Nimmo tripled into right-center field and Wyatt Langford crossed the plate.

Austin Slater Exits Rays
Austin Slater has elected to become a free agent after refusing to be assigned to the minors. He was with the team for seven games and had a .273 batting average. It was the third team he has been on this season.
Slater began 2026 with the Miami Marlins. He ended up with one RBI and a .174 batting average in 12 games with Fish. He became a free agent and immediately joined the New York Mets.
Sandy Leon Becomes Free Agent
Atlanta Braves catcher Sandy Leon has declared himself a free agent. He spent the last two seasons with the Braves and participated in 26 contests, which included 21 games this year.
Leon was with the Miami Marlins during the 2021 campaign. He finished with four home runs, 14 runs batted in and a .183 batting average in 83 games.
Lionel Messi In Beer Commercial
Inter Miami CF and Argentina midfielder Lionel Messi made an appearance for a Michelob Ultra beer commercial. It features mostly United States striker Christian Pulisic. Messi was in a Michelob Ultra Super Bowl commercial with former Miami Dolphins quarterback Dan Marino during Super Bowl LVIII in February 2024.
Michelob Ultra is the official beer sponsor of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The commercial has been aired on television airwaves for the past two weeks.
Dusty May New Mavericks Coach
Former Florida Atlantic University Owls basketball head coach Dusty May will be named the new head coach of the Dallas Mavericks. He guided the University of Michigan Wolverines to the 2026 National Championship for men's basketball back in April.
May was the head coach of FAU for six seasons from 2018-19 to 2023-24. He helped them reach the NCAA Final Four during the 2022-23 season.
Rangers Burn Down Marlins
The Miami Marlins fell to the Texas Rangers 4-3 at loanDepot park on Monday night. The Marlins had their eight-game home winning streak and their four-game overall streak snapped. Rangers manager Skip Schumaker made his return to South Florida for the first time since his tenure as the Marlins manager ended in 2024.
Texas(38-40) ran out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the fourth. Ezequiel Duran smashed a two-run homer to center field on a 1-0 pitch with Brandon Nimmo on base. It was the sixth home run of the campaign for Duran.
Miami(40-39) tied it up 2-2 during the middle of the contest. Javier Sanoja hit a sacrifice fly to center field which brought in Owen Caissie in the fifth inning. Xavier Edwards tripled down the left-field line and Otto Lopez scored in the sixth inning. Edwards tried to stretch it to an inside-the ballpark home run, however he was tagged out at the plate.
The Rangers reclaimed the lead 4-2 in the top of the ninth with two runs. Alejandro Osuna doubled to the right-field wall for Nimmo to score. Elias Diaz followed with a sacrifice fly to right field and former Marlins player Jake Burger crossed the plate.
The Marlins picked up one run in the bottom of the eighth and trailed 4-3. Kyle Stowers knocked in Joe Mack on a double into the right-field corner.
Lionel Messi All-Time World Cup Goal Leader, Argentina Beats Austria
Inter Miami CF midfielder Lionel Messi set the FIFA World Cup tournament record with his 17th and 18th career goals as Argentina topped Austria 2-0 on Monday at Dallas Stadium in a Group J game. Argentina advanced to the Round of 32 knockout stage with the victory.
In the first half, Argentina failed to take a 1-0 lead in the ninth minute of play. Messi missed a penalty kick wide right of the net.
Argentina moved ahead 1-0 during the 38th minute. Facundo Medina crossed the ball from the left side to the middle of the field. Messi one-timed a left-footed shot from 15 yards away into the bottom left corner of the cage to break the all-time World Cup tournament record with his 17th goal. He passed Miroslav Klose of Germany who compiled 16 World Cup goals.
It became 2-0 for Argentina in stoppage time at the end of the second half. Messi dribbled around the goalkeeper and released a shot from nine yards that was blocked by a defender. He then placed in the rebound from five yards out with his left foot for his second tally of the game and 18th career World Cup goal. It was Messi's fifth goal in two games so far in the 2026 World Cup.

Florida Panthers Acquire Brady Tkachuk
Ottawa Senators center Brady Tkachuk has been traded to the Florida Panthers. The Cats sent back two 2026 first-round picks, ninth overall and 25th overall to Ottawa. In addition, the Senators get a 2027 second-round selection and a conditional 2029 first-round selection.
He is the brother of Florida Panthers right wing Matthew Tkachuk. Both contributed to the United States winning the 2026 gold medal in ice hockey for the first time in 46 years.
Tkachuk was the fourth overall selection in the 2018 NHL Draft. He compiled 213 goals and 250 assists for 463 points in 572 NHL games during eight seasons with the Sens. Tkachuk was eventually elevated to become the Senators captain later in his tenure there.
Brady Tkachuk's brother Matthew Tkachuk was acquired by the Panthers from the Calgary Flames prior to the 2022-23 season. Florida has captured two Stanley Cup titles and three Eastern Conference championships since Tkachuk arrived in South Florida.
The Tkachuk family has a long connection with the National Hockey League. Matthew's and Brady's father is Keith Tkachuk and their cousin is former Florida Panthers center Tom Fitzgerald.
Mackie Samoskevich Traded To Kraken
The Florida Panthers have dealt right wing Mackie Samoskevich to the Seattle Kraken. The Panthers will get back a 2026 first-round selection at 25th overall along with a conditional 2027 second-round pick.
Samoskevich was the 24th overall selection by the Florida Panthers in the first round of 2021 NHL Draft. He played for the Panthers over the past three seasons. Samoskevich captured a Stanley Cup championship with the organization in 2024-25. He had 12 goals and 20 assists for a career-high 32 points during 77 contests last season.
Uruguay Ties Cape Verde
Uruguay and Cape Verde finished with a 2-2 tie in Group H on Sunday at Miami Stadium. It was the second contest of seven games being played in Miami during the 2026 World Cup.
Cape Verde, who participated in their second World Cup game in the nation's history, surprisingly moved out to a 1-0 lead during the 21st minute when Lenini powered in a direct kick from 27 yards away.
Uruguay evened it up 1-1 in the when Maximiliano Araujo scored in the 44th minute. They moved ahead 2-1 during stoppage time at the end of the half as Agustin Canabbio was able to get the tally.
In the second half, it became a tie game 2-2 in the 61st minute as Cape Verde scored. Varela placed a shot from 24 yards out into an open net when the goalkeeper came out get a loose ball outside of the penalty area.
Marlins Sweep Giants
The Miami Marlins edged the San Francisco Giants 2-1 at laonDepot Park on Sunday. The Marlins swept the three-game series against the Giants and extended their home winning streak to eight games.
Miami(40-38) broke out to a 1-0 advantage in the bottom of the first. Kyle Stowers socked a solo home run to right-center field on the first pitch for his eighth homer of the campaign.

Giants Topped By Marlins
The San Francisco Giants lost to the Miami Marlins 6-3 on Saturday at loanDepot park. Both teams conclude the three-game series on Sunday.
San Francisco(31-45) never led during the entire contest. The Giants tied it up 2-2 during the top of the fourth on a Casey Schmitt solo home run to center field.
Miami(39-38) scored four runs in the bottom of the fourth to go up 6-2. It was capped off by a Heriberto Hernandez two-run homer to left field for his seventh home run of the season.

United States Advances By Australia
The United States breezed by Australia 2-0 at Seattle Stadium in Group D on Friday. The U.S. advanced to the Group of 32 in the 2026 World Cup. It was the fourth consecutive time since 2014 that the United States advanced from the group stage to the knockout portion of the tournament.
The U.S. will finish either first or second in Group D. They will complete the group stage by playing Turikye on Thursday.
In the first half, the United States took a 1-0 in the 11th minute on an own goal by Australia. Folarin Balogun made a pass across the box and Cameron Burgess accidentally deflected it into his own cage.
It would become 2-0 for the Americans in the 43rd minute of play. Sergino Dest released a shot from the top of the penalty area which was blocked. Alex Freeman then put in a header from three yards away
Marlins Cover Giants
The Miami Marlins got by the San Francisco Giants 4-3 at loanDepot park on Friday night. The Marlins opened up a six-game homestand.
Miami(38-38) rushed out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first. San Francisco(31-44) picked up two runs in the top of the sixth and moved ahead 3-2. The Marlins answered back in the bottom of the seventh with two runs and led 4-3.

Dan Le Batard Eliminates Stugotz Brand
Dan Le Batard announced that he will remove Stugotz from the title of their program the Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz as of Monday. It is possible the new title could be the Dan Le Batard Show moving forward.
Le Batard and Stugotz, a.k.a Jon Weiner, teamed up as afternoon co-hosts on Sports Talk 790 The Ticket WAXY-AM in August 2004. They would add a FM frequency simulcast on Sports Talk 104.3 The Ticket WAXY-FM from August 2012 until August 2015.
The Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz became nationally syndicated by ESPN Radio in September 2013. It was moved by ESPN Radio from afternoon drive to middays in September 2015 and to late mornings in July 2020.
Le Batard and Stugotz finished a 15-year reign at 790 The Ticket in August 2019. They were moved to sister-station 560 WQAM-AM and remained there until January 2021.
The program ended on ESPN Radio in January 2021 and shifted to Meadowlark Media as a podcast later that month. Stugotz would last appear on the show with Le Batard in the middle of 2025.
West Palm Beach Ratings May 2026
The West Palm Beach area was issued ratings for their sports talk format radio stations. The time span was from the last week in April to the last week in May.
ESPN West Palm 106.3 WESP-FM appeared in the ratings for the second time ever. They moved up from a 0.6 to a 0.8 in the month.
Fox Sports 640 South Florida WMEN-AM shifted from a 0.3 to a 0.2 in the period. They did not have any game broadcasts.
Sports Radio 1230 The Gambler WBZT-AM remained at a 0.0 for the second straight month. The Marlins fell to fourth place in the National League East Division standings.

Tyler Heineman Traded To Angels
The Toronto Blue Jays dealt catcher Tyler Heineman to the Los Angeles Angels for cash considerations. He had been with the Blue Jays since 2024.
Heineman broke in the majors with the Miami Marlins in 2019. He compiled a .273 batting average in five contests with the team.
De'Von Achane On Athlon Sports Cover
Miami Dolphins running back De'Von Achane is on the front cover of the annual Athlon Sports Pro Football Preview magazine. He was a part of the AFC East Division cover with three other players from rival teams.
Achane also appeared on the Lindy's Sports annual magazine cover earlier this month. He has participated with the Dolphins during his three-year NFL career.
WRMF Extending Kevin Rolston
The KVJ Show on WRMF-FM in West Palm Beach is being extended. Morning co-hosts Kevin Rolston, Virginia Sinicki and Jason Pennington all received multi-year contracts.
Rolston once hosted Kevin's Other Show on 640 WMEN-AM. He had two different stints at that radio station and was on their airwaves from February 2018 until December 2018.
Marlins Outduel Phillies
The Philadelphia Phillies were outscored by the Miami Marlins 12-4 on Wednesday at Citizens Bank Park. The Fish concluded a six-game Pennsylvania road trip and will have tomorrow off. The Marlins host the San Francisco Giants this weekend.
Miami(37-38) zipped out to a 2-0 leadin the top of the first. Kyle Stowers smashed a two- run homer to right field on a 2-2 pitch with Otto Lopez on base. It ended up being the sixth home run for Stowers this season.
Philadelphia(40-34) evened it up 2-2 in the bottom of the first. Brandon Marsh singled through the right side and Trea Turner scored. Alec Bohm came up next and drove in Bryce Harper with a base hit into right field.
The Marlins regained the lead 6-2 adding four runs in the top of the second. Owen Caissie hammered a solo homer over the right-center field on a 0-1 count for his seventh home run of the campaign.

Blues Bring In Vinny Prospal
The St. Louis Blues have hired Vinny Prospal as an assistant coach. He was an assistant coach with the Rochester Americans in the AHL for the past three seasons.
Prospal was acquired by the Florida Panthers during the 2000-01 season. He ended up with four goals and 12 assists for 16 points in 34 games with the Cats.
Miami Ratings May 2026
The Miami/Fort Lauderdale region received their ratings for sports talk format radio stations. The time span went from the final week of April to the final week of May.
104.3 Sports WQAM-FM shifted from a 0.9 to a 0.8 in the month. The Miami Marlins fell in the standings to fourth place in the National League East Division with a 26-31 record.
Fox Sports 940 WINZ-AM dropped from a 0.4 to a 0.2 in the period. They did have NASCAR play-by-play racing broadcasts on weekends. The WINZ stream on WZTU-FM-HD2 moved from a 0.4 to a 0.2.
Fox Sports 640 South Florida WMEN-AM stayed at a 0.1 for the fourth consecutive month. They did not air any game broadcasts during the period.
Lionel Messi Hat Trick & Argentina Tops Algeria
Lionel Messi compiled his first career World Cup hat trick as Argentina opened up their World Cup title reign with a 3-0 victory over Algeria in a Group J game at Kansas City Stadium on Tuesday night. Argentina captured the World Cup in 2022 and will try to become the first back-to-back World Cup champions since Brazil in 1958 and 1962.
Inter Miami CF and Argentina midfielder Lionel Messi set a new all-time record playing and scoring in his sixth FIFA World Cup tournament. Herons midfielder Rodrigo De Paul was also in the starting lineup for Argentina.
Messi participated in his 27th World Cup tournament contest, which is an all-time record. He played in his 200th international game for Argentina. It is third all-time among players in international appearances/caps representing their country.
In the first half, Argentina got out in front 1-0 in the 17th minute. De Paul threaded a lead pass from the midfield circle. Messi dribbled up the middle of the field and then blasted a left-footed shot from 21 yards away into the top right corner of the cage. It was Messi's 14th World Cup goal which tied him with Gerd Muller of Germany and Kylian Mbappe of France for third all-time.
It became 2-0 for Argentina in the 60th minute as Messi placed in his second goal of the contest. Alexis Mac Allister fired a right-footed shot from 28 yards that Algeria goalie Luca Zidane, son of France soccer legend Zinedine Zidane, made the save. Messi raced in for the rebound and tapped in an eight-yard shot with his right foot into the net. He moved to second all-time in World Cup goals with his 15th overall to tie Ronaldo of Brazil.
Messi collected the hat trick with his third goal of the game during the 76th minute to make it 3-0 for Argentina. He rocketed a left-footed shot from 18 yards out into the low left corner of the cage. Nico Gonzalez connected a square pass from the left side to set up the tally. Messi tied Miroslav Klose of Germany with the all-time record of 16 World Cup goals. Argentina substituted for Messi in the 80th minute of play.
Phillies Blitz Marlins
The Philadelphia Phillies pounded the Miami Marlins 8-2 on Tuesday night at Citizens Bank Park. The Marlins will finish their six-game road swing tomorrow.
Philadelphia(40-33) took a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Alec Bohm knocked in Brandon Marsh with a base hit into right field. Bryson Stott followed with a triple off the center-field wall for Bryce Harper and Bohm to cross the plate.
The Phillies made it 7-0 in the second inning with four more runs. Marsh connected with a two-run homer to left-center field on a 3-1 count for his ninth home run of the year. Edmundo Sosa scored in front of him on the play. Three batters later, Bohm smashed a two-run home run to left-center field on a 2-0 pitch with Kyle Schwarber aboard. It resulted in the ninth homer for Bohm in the 2026 campaign.
The Phils expanded it to 8-1 during the bottom of the fourth. Schwarber lined a solo home run barely over the right-field fence on a 1-1 pitch for his 25th homer of the season.

Dolphins Get Major Burns
The Miami Dolphins have inked defensive back Major Burns to a contract. He joined the Chicago Bears in 2025 as an undrafted free agent, however he did not play in any NFL games.
Burns spent the offseason in the United Football League. He ended up participating in nine contests with the Houston Gamblers.
Dolphins Let Go Kion Smith
The Miami Dolphins have released offensive lineman Kion Smith. He signed with the Fins as an undrafted free agent in 2021.
Smith did get his share of NFL action with Miami. He played nine games in 2023 and 14 contests in 2025 with the Dolphins.
Phillies Shut Out Marlins Again
The Philadelphia Phillies blanked the Miami Marlins 7-0 at Citizens Bank Park on Monday night. The Marlins continued their six-game Pennsylvania road trip. The Phillies pulled a 1-0 shutout of the Marlins in Miami back on May 4.
Philadelphia(39-33) rushed out to a 1-0 lead during the bottom of the second. Gabriel Rincones Jr. picked up his first career base hit and his first home run in the majors on a 1-2 pitch to right field.
The Phillies expanded their lead to 3-0 in the third inning with two more runs. Rincones grounded into a force out and Brandon Marsh touched home. Justin Crawford followed with a base hit into center field to score Bryson Stott.
It became 5-0 for the Phils in the bottom of the fifth. J.T. Realmuto walloped a two-run homer to left field on the first pitch. Stott was able to score in front of him on the play.
Miami(36-37) surrendered two more runs in the bottom of the eighth and trailed 7-0. Alec Bohm hit a sacrifice fly into right field and Justin Crawford scored. Bryce Harper followed with another sacrifice fly to right and Edmundo Sosa reached home.
Uruguay Ties Saudi Arabia
Uruguay tied Saudi Arabia 1-1 in a Group H matchup between both nations at Miami Stadium on Monday night. It was the first 2026 World Cup game of seven contests to be held in the South Florida region.
Miami did not have any games played locally during the first time the United States hosted the World Cup in 1994. The closest located contests were held that year was in Orlando.
Saudi Arabia scooted out to a 1-0 advantage in the 41st minute. Abdulelah Alamri got to the rebound and half-volleyed a shot from three yards away with his right foot.
In the second half, Uruguay tied it up 1-1 in the 80th minute. Maximiliano Araujo volleyed in a left-footed shot from six yards out following a save.

Shayne Gostisbehere Captures Stanley Cup
South Florida native Shayne Gostisbehere won the Stanley Cup on Sunday night. The Carolina Hurricanes blanked the Vegas Golden Knights 3-0 to win the best-of-seven series in six games.
Gostisbehere was born in Pembroke Pines and grew up in Broward County. He played hockey with the Florida Panthers youth club. Gostisbehere would attend Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland.
Brandon Bussi Wins Stanley Cup
The Florida Panthers reign as the two-time defending Stanley Cup champions officially ended tonight. The Carolina Hurricanes defeated the Vegas Golden Knights 3-0 in Game 6 of the 2026 Stanley Cup Final at Las Vegas. The Canes won the best-of-seven series 4-2 for their second Stanley Cup in franchise history.
Hurricanes goalie Brandon Bussi helped the Hurricanes when he entered during the midway point of the Stanley Cup Final. Bussi joined the Florida Panthers organization when he signed as a free agent with the club on July 1, 2025. Carolina claimed him off waivers from Florida on October 5, 2025.
Mike Reilly was another former Florida Panthers player who was also on the championship team. He played in two games with the Cats during the 2023-24 campaign before he was claimed off waivers by the New York Islanders.
Marlins Hold Off Pirates
The Miami Marlins sailed by the Pittsburgh Pirates 4-2 on Sunday at PNC Park. The game had a Major League Baseball exclusive broadcast window on Peacock at 12:15 p.m. today.
The Marlins have been victorious in six of their past seven games. They have won 10 of their past 12 contests and a +29 run differential in the month of June.

Florida Panthers Minor Trade
The Florida Panthers made a trade involving minor league players. The Panthers acquired defenseman Emil Pieniniemi from the Pittsburgh Penguins for forward Oliver Okuliar.
Pieniniemi split his time last season in the Penguins minor league system. He played nine contests with Wikes-Barre/Scranton in the AHL and 26 games with Wheeling in the ECHL. Pieniniemi finished with a combined 14 points with both clubs. Okuliar did participate in 69 games with the Panthers AHL affiliate the Charlotte Checkers in 2024-25 and collected 41 points.
Pirates Snap Marlins
The Pittsburgh Pirates streaked by the Miami Marlins 3-2 on Saturday at PNC Park. The Marlins had their six-game winning streak snapped. Both teams will complete their three-game series on Sunday.
Pittsburgh(36-35) rolled out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Ryan O'Hearn singled through the right side and Spencer Horwitz crossed the plate.
Miami(35-36) evened it up 1-1 in the top of the third. Liam Hicks got a base hit to left field which brought in Jakob Marsee.
The Pirates regained the lead 2-1 during the bottom of the third. Bryan Reynolds drove in Horwitz on a double into the left-center field gap.
In the sixth inning, the Marlins tied it once again 2-2. Heriberto Hernandez knocked in Xavier Edwards with a single through the left side.

Zach Pop Back With Marlins
Zach Pop has reunited with the Miami Marlins organization. He has signed a minor league contract and will report to their Triple-A affiliate in Jacksonville.
Pop was with the Marlins for two seasons in 2021 and 2022. He ended up with a 3-0 record and a 3.98 earned run average in 68 relief appearance for Miami.
United States Mows Down Paraguay
The United States opened up the 2026 World Cup with a 4-1 dominant win over Paraguay at Los Angeles Stadium on Friday night. It was the most goals scored in a World Cup game by the United States. It was also the largest margin of victory for the U.S. since they accomplished it during the first World Cup in 1930.
It marked the 11th overall World Cup appearance by the U.S. in World Cup competition. The United States has reached the knockoff phase every time when they do not lose their first World Cup game in the tournament.
It turned out to be the first contest for the United States in Group D. They will later face Australia on June 19 in Seattle and Turkiye in Los Angeles on June 25 in group play during the next two weeks.
Los Angeles held the 1994 World Cup Final game at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena when the United States was the host nation. The FIFA does not allow a company naming rights on World Cup stadiums, such as SoFi Stadium.
In the first half, the United States jumped out to a 1-0 advantage just seven minutes into the game. Christian Pulisic dribbled down the left side of the penalty area through two defenders and passed the ball ahead. Weston McKinnie made a square pass to his right and Damian Bobadilla accidentally kicked the ball into his own cage for an own goal.
The United States expanded their lead to 2-0 in the 31st minute of play. Malik Tillman centered the ball from the left side. Folarin Balogun then one-timed a right-footed shot from 13 yards away.
The U.S. increased it to 3-0 during stoppage time at the end of the first half. Balogun brought the ball to the middle of the penalty area and lifted a 12-yard shot with his left foot into the top left corner of the net.
In the second half, Paraguay broke the shutout in the 73rd minute and they were down 3-1. Mauricio was able to get the tally with left-footed shot from 12 yards out.
The United States capped the game with a goal in stoppage time to conclude the second half. Giovanni Reyna dribbled forward several yards and zipped a 17-yard shot from the top of the penalty area with his outer-right foot into the left side of the cage
Marlins Storm By Pirates
The Miami Marlins hurdled the Pittsburgh Pirates 8-3 at PNC Park on Friday night. The Marlins started a six-game road trip.
Pittsburgh(35-35) took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third. Jared Triolo singled through the left side for Endy Rodriguez to score.
Miami(35-35) climbed ahead 2-1 in the top of the fifth with two runs. Otto Lopez grounded out to short and Javier Sanoja reached home. Kyle Stowers followed with a base hit into right field and Liam Hicks scored.
The Bucs answered back to tie it up 2-2 in the bottom of the fifth. Rodriguez powered a solo home run to right-center field on a 0-1 pitch for his second homer of the year.
The Marlins reclaimed the lead 6-2 in the seventh inning as they added four more runs. Edwards drove in Hicks with a sacrifice fly to center field. Heriberto Hernandez came up next and knocked in Edwards on a single into left field. Owen Caissie then doubled off the center-field fence which scored Stowers and Hernandez.
The Fish got two runs in the top of the eighth and made it 8-2. Hicks blasted a two-run homer off the right-field foul pole on a 0-2 count for his 13th home run of the season.
The Pirates cut it to 8-3 during the bottom of the eighth. Brandon Lowe smacked a solo home run that bounced off the top of the right-center field wall on a 1-0 pitch for his 17th homer of the 2026 campaign.

Daryl Porter Jr. Returns To Steelers
One-time Broward County high school defensive back Daryl Porter Jr. has signed a deal with the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Buffalo Bills released him back on June 1. Porter showed up for one game with the Steelers in 2025.
Porter played for the American Heritage Patriots in high school football. He captured two FHSAA state championships in 2016 and 2017.
Derek Hill Dealt To Phillies
The Chicago White Sox have traded outfielder Derek Hill to the Philadelphia Phillies for two minor league prospects. The Phillies will be the seventh team he has played for since he entered Major League Baseball in 2020.
Hill was with the Miami Marlins for two seasons in 2024 and 2025. He compiled seven home runs, 28 runs batted in and a .222 batting average in 85 games with the Fish.
Raynel Delgado Moved Up By Astros
Former Broward County high school baseball player Raynel Delgado has been called up to the majors by the Houston Astros. He is expected to make his Major League Baseball debut this weekend. Delgado was dealt by the Tampa Bay Rays to the Astros on Wednesday.
He participated in high school baseball with the Calvary Christian Academy Eagles. Delgado has played 61 contests with the Rays Triple-A affiliate the Durham Bulls this season.
Malachi Toney On ESPN Magazine Cover
Former Broward County high school football player Malachi Toney is on the front cover of the annual ESPN College Football Preview magazine. He was on another college football magazine cover named Lindy's Sports, which was published in May.
Toney participated with the American Heritage Patriots in high school football. He won a FHSAA Class 4A state championship with the Pats in 2024.
He played one season with the University of Miami. Toney contributed to the Hurricanes reaching the CFP National Championship Game versus Indiana last season.
Marlins Sweep Diamondbacks
The Miami Marlins swept the Arizona Diamondbacks with a 2-0 shutout victory on loanDepot park on Thursday. The Marlins, who finished up a six-game homestand, blanked Arizona(34-34) for the second straight game.
Miami(34-35) broke out to a 1-0 advantage in the bottom of the first. Xavier Edwards hit a sacrifice fly to right field and Otto Lopez scored.

Scott Hastings Done With Nuggets
Former Miami Heat center Scott Hastings is no longer on the television broadcasting crew of the Denver Nuggets. He has held the game analyst role with the club since 1993.
Hastings spent the inaugural season with the Miami Heat back in 1988-89. He was selected by Miami from the Atlanta Hawks in the 1988 NBA Expansion Draft. He compiled 5.1 points and 3.1 rebounds per game with the Heat.
He will continue in the radio broadcasting business. Hastings is currently the midday co-host on KKSE-FM.
Dolphins Extending Aaron Brewer
The Miami Dolphins have given center Aaron Brewer a three-year extension through the 2029 season. The amount of the new deal is worth $52.5 million.
Brewer signed with the Dolphins prior to the 2024 NFL season. He played 17 games in 2024 and 16 games in 2025 with the Fins. He participated in 58 contests with the Tennessee Titans from 2020 until 2023.
Marlins Blank Diamondbacks
The Miami Marlins shut out the Arizona Diamondbacks 8-0 on Wednesday night at loanDepot park. The Marlins won their third straight series. The Fish will complete a six-game homestand tomorrow.

Angels Sign Shaun Anderson Again
The Los Angeles Angels have re-signed pitcher Shaun Anderson. It will be his third stint with the organization. He was demoted to their Triple-A affiliate in Salt Lake City.
He played for the Miami Marlins in the 2024 campaign. Anderson finished with a 0-2 record and a 9.00 earned run average in four games.
Marlins Catch Diamondbacks
The Miami Marlins powered by the Arizona Diamondbacks 10-6 at loanDepot park on Tuesday night. The Marlins continued their six-game homestand.
Arizona(34-32) put up three runs in the top of the eighth to tie it up 6-6. Miami(32-35) responded with four runs during the bottom of the eighth for a 10-6 lead.

Bobby Hart Heads To Seahawks
Former Broward County high school offensive lineman Bobby Hart has signed a contract with the Seattle Seahawks. He spent 10 games last season with the Los Angeles Chargers.
Hart split his time playing high school football with the Cardinal Gibbons Chiefs and the St. Thomas Aquinas Raiders. He contributed to STA winning the FHSAA Class 5A state championship along with the national championship in 2010 during his only season with that school.
Cooper Black Re-Signs With Panthers
The Florida Panthers have re-signed goalie Cooper Black to a two-year, two-way contract. He inked the same exact deal with the Cats in April 2024 and that expired at the conclusion of the 2025-26 season.
Black participated in college hockey with Dartmouth College. He has played with the Panthers AHL affiliate the Charlotte Checkers over the past two seasons.
Trey Mancini Back In Majors
Trey Mancini returned to Major League Baseball on Monday night. He played first base for the Los Angeles Angels against the Houston Astros.
It was his first appearance in the majors since 2023. He did sign a minor league deal with the Miami Marlins prior to the 2024 season, however he did not make the roster.
Shaun Anderson Free Agent Again
Former Miami Marlins pitcher Shaun Anderson has become a free agent again and has left the Los Angeles Angels. He signed a minor league contract with the team in January. made nine pitching appearances in the majors this season and refused from being designated for assignment to the minors in late April. Anderson re-signed a minor league deal with the club in early May.
Anderson played for Miami in the 2024 season. He was able to compile a 0-2 record and a 9.00 earned run average in four contests with the Marlins.
2026 World Cup Games In Miami
The 2026 World Cup will start on Thursday with a tournament-record 48 different countries. Miami will host seven games during this year's World Cup at Hard Rock Stadium, which will be known during the World Cup tournament as Miami Stadium. Four of the games will occur during the group stage.
It will have two contests from Group H. Uruguay takes on Saudi Arabia on June 15 and Uruguay faces Cape Verde on June 21. Brazil challenges Scotland in Group C on June 24 while Portugal and Columbia will face each other in Group K on June 27.
The venue will have a Round of 32 contest on July 3 and a World Cup Quarterfinal game on July 11. The World Cup Third-Place, Bronze-Medal Game between the two semifinal losing squads will happen on July 18.

Dolphins Football Operations Changes
The Miami Dolphins recently made changes in their football operations department. They will work under general manager Jon-Eric Sullivan.
Shaun Herock was named senior personnel executive and Venzell Boulware as director of pro scouting. Brandon Shore was promoted to executive vice president of football operations while Max Napolitano was upped to vice president of football administration.
Stacey King Passes Away
One-time Miami Heat forward Stacey King has passed away at the age of 59. King joined Miami as a free agent in October 1995. He finished with 2.5 points and 1.5 rebounds per game in 15 contests with the Heat during the 1995-96 season.
King is best remembered playing his first five NBA seasons with the Chicago Bulls. He helped capture three NBA championships with the club in 1991, 1992 and 1993.
Marlins Slip By Rays
The Tampa Bay Rays lost the Miami Marlins 4-1 at loanDepot park on Sunday. The Marlins have tomorrow before they face the Arizona Diamondbacks on Tuesday.

Astros Dump Anthony Maldonado
The Houston Astros have released relief pitcher Anthony Maldonado. He inked a minor league deal with them in November and never made the majors with the team.
Maldonado was with the Miami Marlins in 2024 and compiled a 5.68 earned run average in 16 contests. He spent last season with the Athletics.
Golden Tempo Wins Belmont Stakes
Golden Tempo captured the 2026 Belmont Stakes at Saratoga Racetrack on Saturday night. He won the first leg of the Triple Crown which was the Kentucky Derby back on May 2.
Florida Panthers owner Vincent Viola and his wife Teresa operate St. Elias Stables. They together are a co-owner of Golden Tempo.
The Violas did own a horse that won one race in the Triple Crown. Always Dreaming was victorious in the Kentucky Derby in 2017.
Vincent Viola has owned the Florida Panthers since September 2013. The team has captured two Stanley Cup titles in 2024 and 2025 along with three Eastern Conference championships in 2023, 2024 and 2025.
Ali Sanchez Elevated By Yankees
One-time Miami Marlins catcher Ali Sanchez has been promoted to the majors by the New York Yankees. He inked a minor league contract with the club during the offseason.
Sanchez did have a stint with the Marlins in 2024. He had four runs batted in and a .167 batting average in 31 contests with Miami.
Zach Pop Becomes Free Agent
Zach Pop has declared himself a free agent after his refusal to be sent to minors by the Philadelphia Phillies. He was involved in seven contests this season with the Phils and had a 3.11 earned run average.
Pop played for the Miami Marlins for parts of two seasons in 2021 and 2022. He finished with a 3-0 record and a 3.52 earned run average in 68 relief appearances with the team.
De'Von Achane On Lindy's Sports Cover
Miami Dolphins running back De'Von Achane appears on the front magazine cover of Lindy's Sports Pro Football annual magazine. There were overall 32 different NFL players who showed up on the publication cover.
Achane has played his entire three-year career with the Fins. He has 544 carries for 3,057 rushing yards and 22 touchdowns in 44 games with Miami.

Miami Dolphins Preseason Schedule
The National Football League released the preseason schedule slate for all of their 32 clubs. The Miami Dolphins will be involved in three preseason contests in 2026.
The Dolphins will visit the Washington Commanders on August 14. The Fins host the New York Giants on August 22 and the Atlanta Falcons on August 28.
Marlins Steamrolled By Rays
The Miami Marlins were blanked by the Tampa Bay Rays 6-0 at loanDepot park on Friday night. The Marlins came off a long nine-game road trip and began a six-game homestand.
The Fish had their three-game winning streak snapped following three road victories over the Washington Nationals. The Rays ended a three-game losing streak after being swept at home by the Detroit Tigers.
Tampa Bay(37-23) came out on fire with three runs in the top of the first for a 3-0 lead. Richie Palacios tripled off the glove of Owen Caissie and into the right-center field gap. Junior Caminero and Yandy Diaz scored on the sequence. Ryan Vilade followed with a base hit through the right side and Palacios reached home.
The Rays expanded their lead to 4-0 in the fifth inning. Jonathan Aranda knocked in Caminero on a single into center field.
Miami(29-35) trailed 5-0 in the top of the sixth. Cedric Mullins pounded a solo home run to right-center field on a 2-1 pitch for his second straight game with a homer.

Jaromir Jagr Stanley Cup Final Streak Continues
One-time Florida Panthers right wing Jaromir Jagr had his unusual Stanley Cup Final streak continue this week. He had a former teammate of his playing in the Stanley Cup Final for the 46th consecutive year.
The streak began back in 1980 when his Pittsburgh Penguins teammate Bryan Trottier participated in the Stanley Cup Final with the New York Islanders from 1980 to 1984. It continued this year when his 2017-18 Calgary Flames teammate Rasmus Andersson appeared in Game 1 of the 2026 Stanley Cup Final with the Vegas Golden Knights.
Matt Pushard Returned To Marlins
The St. Louis Cardinals have sent pitcher Matt Pushard back to the Miami Marlins for $50,000. The Cardinals selected him from the Marlins in the Rule 5 Draft.
Pushard will be assigned by Miami to their Triple-A affiliate in Jacksonville. He made six relief appearances with St. Louis this season and had a 5.14 earned run average.
Jorge Sedano Working NBA Finals
Former Miami sportscaster Jorge Sedano is part of the radio announcing crew for the 2026 NBA Finals on ESPN Radio. It is the third straight year that he has the role of radio sideline reporter at the NBA Finals.
Sedano held several different broadcasting roles while in the South Florida region from 1999 to 2013. He worked at 1700 The Fan WAFN-AM, Fox Sports 940 WRFX-AM, Fox Sports Radio, News Radio 610 WIOD-AM, Sports Talk 790 The Ticket WAXY-AM, Sports Radio 560 WQAM-AM, WFOR-TV Channel 4 and Sun Sports. Sedano is currently the morning co-host with Scott Kaplan at KSPN-AM in Los Angeles.

Jets Ink Jason Sanders
The New York Jets have signed kicker Jason Sanders to a contract. He was released by the New York Giants yesterday.
Sanders was with the Miami Dolphins from 2018 to 2025. He ended up playing in 116 contests with the Dolphins.
Kevin Rolston Wins Scott Shannon Award
One-time West Palm Beach sports talk host Kevin Rolston has been named the inaugural Scott Shannon Award winner. He will receive the award later this month at the 2026 Barrett Media Audio Summit in New York City.
Rolston once was the host of Kevin's Other Show mid-afternoon program on 640 WMEN-AM from February 2018 until September 2018. It later became a Monday afternoon show from October 2018 to December 2018 at that radio station. He still continues his long tenure as the morning co-host of the KVJ Show on 97.9 WRMF-FM in West Palm Beach.
Chris Grier In Lions Organization
Former Miami Dolphins general manager Chris Grier has joined the Detroit Lions. He has been named an executive in the personnel department with the club.
Grier had a long reign with Miami. He was the Dolphins general manager from 2016 until the middle of the 2025 regular season.

Dolphins Sign Jalen Reagor
The Miami Dolphins have signed wide receiver Jalen Reagor to a deal. It is unknown what the terms of the contract is.
Reagor entered the NFL with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2020 and 2021. He had stints with the Minnesota Vikings in 2022, New England Patriots in 2023 and Los Angeles Chargers in 2024.
Drew Goldfarb On NHL Network
Former South Florida television sportscaster Drew Goldfarb has been working as an NHL betting analyst on NHL Network this season. He has appeared on the afternoon program NHL Now on a regular basis.
Goldfarb, a Broward County native, once had a stint on the local airwaves. He was the studio analyst alongside studio analyst Bill Lindsay of Florida Panthers games on Fox Sports Florida from October 2013 to April 2015.
He first got involved in National Hockey League and Major League Baseball sports betting analysis work in late 2022. Goldfarb was employed at FanDuel in Las Vegas as a pregame sports betting segment host on several regional sports networks which included AT&T Pittsburgh, AT&T Rocky Mountain and Mid-Atlantic Sports Network.
Yonny Chirinos Dropped
One-time Miami Marlins starting pitcher Yonny Chirinos has been released by the LG Twins in the Korea Baseball Organization. He was in his second season with the club.
Chirinos was with Miami during the 2024 season. He chalked up a 0-2 record and a 6.30 earned run average in six contests with the Marlins.
Giants Let Go Jason Sanders
The New York Giants have released kicker Jason Sanders. He signed a contract with the team back in March.
Sanders spent eight seasons with the Miami Dolphins from 2018 until 2025. He did not participate in a contest last season with Miami. Sanders, who played in 116 games with the Fins, had 187 field goals made in 221 field goals attempts for an 84.6% rate.
Hubbard Changes Brand Name
Hubbard Radio has changed their brand name to better suit into today's media environment. They will now be known as Hubbard - Media That Connects.
Hubbard does own five radio stations in the West Palm Beach region. They are the parent company of Fox Sports 640 South Florida WMEN-AM and News Talk 850 WFTL-AM.

Miami(28-34) compiled four runs with back-to-back-to back home runs in the top of the fifth for a 4-0 lead. Joe Mack picked up his first career home run in the majors with a two-run homer to right-center field. Owen Caissie scored in front of him on the play.

Romello Brinson Signs With Cowboys
Former Dade County high school football wide receiver Romello Brinson is off to the National Football League. He has signed a contract with the Dallas Cowboys.
Brinson played high school football with the Miami Northwestern Bulls. He captured three consecutive FHSAA state championships with The West in 2017, 2018 and 2019. Brinson had stints with the University of Miami Hurricanes and the Southern Methodist University Mustangs in college football.
Odell Beckham Jr. Back In NFL
Odell Beckham Jr. has returned to the National Football League following a one-year absence. He has agreed to a contract with the New York Giants. It will be his second stint with the Giants. Beckham played five seasons from 2014 until 2018 with New York. He won a Super Bowl title with the Los Angeles Rams in 2021.
He was with the Miami Dolphins during the 2024 campaign. Beckham compiled nine catches for 55 receiving yards and no touchdowns in nine games with the Fins.
Bills Waive Daryl Porter Jr.
The Buffalo Bills have waived defensive back Daryl Porter Jr. He signed with that organization back in January and was a member of their practice squad. Porter played one contest with the Pittsburgh Steelers during the 2025 season.

Thomas Vanek IIHF Hall Of Fame
One-time Florida Panthers left wing Thomas Vanek has been elected to the International Ice Hockey Federation Hall of Fame. The announcement was made at the IIHF World Championship title game on Sunday.
Vanek was acquired by the Panthers from the Detroit Red Wings late in the 2016-17 regular season. He ended up with two goals and eight assists for 10 points in 20 games with Florida.
Panthers Adding Matvei Shuravin
The Florida Panthers are expected to add defenseman Matvei Shuravin. He is signing a three-year, entry-level deal with the club. The contract will go into effect at the start of the 2026-27 season.
Shuravin was selected 97th overall by Florida in the 2024 NHL Draft. He has been playing in Russia over the past couple of years.
Barkov & Lundell Win IIHF World Championship
Two current Florida Panthers players and one former player captured the IIHF World Championship on Sunday. Team Finland defeated Team Swiss 1-0 in overtime to take the gold medal.
Panthers centers Aleksander Barkov and Anton Lundell were on the victorious Team Finland club. Jesse Puljujarvi also participated on the winning squad.

Miami(27-34) scooted out to a 1-0 advantage in the top of the first. Owen Caissie walked with the bases loaded for Liam Hicks to touch home.
Washington(31-30) jumped to the lead 2-1 during the bottom of the second. Jacob Young homered to left field on a 2-2 pitch with C.J. Abrams on base. It was Young's eighth home run of the campaign.
The Nats increased it to 3-1 in the bottom of the third. Curtis Mead singled into left field for James Wood to score.
The Marlins moved ahead with three runs in the top of the sixth for a 4-3 lead. Heriberto Hernandez powered a two-run homer to left field on a 3-1 count with Leo Jimenez aboard. Three batters later, Connor Norby knocked in Jakob Marsee with a double down the right-field line.
The Fish added some insurance in the ninth inning to make it 7-3. Hicks lifted a solo home run to right field on the first pitch for his 12th homer of the season. Two batters later, Kyle Stowers socked a two-run homer to right field on a 1-2 count with Otto Lopez aboard. It ended up being the fourth home run for Stowers this year.
Zach Brzykcy To Make Marlins Debut
Zach Brzykcy is expected to debut with the Miami Marlins sometime this week. He is expected to make an appearance against his former club the Washington Nationals.
Brzykcy spent two seasons with the Nats in 2025 and 2026. He had a 0-1 record with a 10.05 earned run average in 32 games while in Washington.
