Jason McCourty Contract

      Defensive back Jason McCourty signed a one-year contract with the Miami Dolphins earlier this month. The dollar amount has finally been calculated. 
      He signed for the veteran minimum amount of $1.1 million. The deal has $987,000 of it to be guaranteed. 

Helio Castroneves Wins Indianapolis 500

     Fort Lauderdale resident Helio Castroneves won the Indianapolis 500 on Sunday. He won the Indianapolis 500 for the fourth time. 
     Castroneves was the winner of the race in 2001, 2002, 2009 and 2021. He tied the all-time record with A.J. Foyt, Al Unser and Rick Mears.

Marlins And Red Sox Game Postponed

     The Miami Marlins game against the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park on Sunday was postponed due to rain. It will be made up on June 7. 
     It was to be the final contest of a three-game series between both teams. The Marlins will head to Buffalo and face the Toronto Blue Jays on Tuesday and Wednesday.

D.C. United Slams Inter Miami CF

     D.C. United dismantled Inter Miami CF 3-0 at DRV PNK Stadium in Fort Lauderdale on Saturday night. It was the first home game for Inter Miami CF since May 12. Both clubs will meet each other again in Washington D.C. on June 19. 
     Inter Miami CF have lost two straight games. They were shut out in their last two home contests by a combined 5-0 amount and have been outscored 8-3 in their last four MLS games overall. 

Red Sox Charge By Marlins

     The Boston Red Sot topped the Miami Marlins 3-1 at Fenway Park on Saturday. The Marlins have lost four of their last six contests. The Red Sox look to sweep the Marlins in the three-game series on Sunday. 
     In the second inning, Boston(32-20) took a 1-0 lead. Bobby Dalbec singled through the left side and Rafael Devers scored. 
     The Red Sox made it 2-0 in the bottom of the fourth. Kevin Plawecki drove in Hunter Renfroe with a base hit into center field. 
     It became 3-0 for Boston in the bottom of the eighth. Renfroe got a single to right field and Devers crossed the plate. 
     Miami(24-28) broke the shutout in the ninth inning. Jesus Aguilar knocked in Magneuris Sierra on a single into center field. 

Bucks Sweep Heat In Game 4

     The Eastern Conference championship reign for the Miami Heat ended Saturday as they lost to the Milwaukee Bucks 120-103 in Game 4 at American Airlines Arena. The Bucks swept the best-of-seven series 4-0 against the Heat and gained revenge from losing in the second round to Miami last year. 
     Miami had a 26-22 advantage at the end of the first quarter. The Heat stayed ahead of the Bucks 64-57 at halftime. 
     The second half would belong to Milwaukee. They went on a 24-7 run to begin the third quarter and were up 91-85 at the end of the frame. The Bucks pulled away during the final quarter and had a 19-point margin 120-101 with 1:11 remaining in the game. 
     Jimmy Butler compiled a triple-double of 12 points, 10 assists and 10 rebounds for the Heat. Bam Adebayo put together 20 points and 14 rebounds for a double-double. Kendrick Nunn added 18 points, Tyler Herro scored 14 points and Goran Dragic poured in 13 points. 
     Giannis Antetokounmpo piled on a triple-double with 20 points, 15 assists and 12 rebounds for Milwaukee. Khris Middleton helped out with a double-double of 20 points and 11 rebounds. Brook Lopez dropped in 25 points. Jrue Holiday fell short of a double-double with 11 points and nine assists while Bryn Forbes came off the bench with 22 points.

Red Sox Inch By Marlins

     The Boston Red Sox outdueled the Miami Marlins 5-2 in a shortened six-inning contest at Fenway Park on Friday night. The game was stopped during the sixth due to inclement weather and never restarted. It was the beginning of the Marlins nine-game road swing. 
     Miami(24-27) struck with two runs in the top of the second. Jorge Alfaro compiled his first home run of the season on a 2-1 pitch to right-center field. Corey Dickerson scored in front of him on the play. 
     In the third inning, the Red Sox tied it up 2-2. J.D. Martinez drove in Hunter Renfroe and Enrique Hernanadez on a double to deep center. 
     Boston(31-20) added three more runs during the fifth inning. Alex Verdugo smashed a three-run homer to right-center field on the first pitch with Marwin Gonzalez and Renfroe aboard. It was the seventh home run for Verdugo in the 2021 campaign. 

Fox Sports 640 Loses Clay Travis

     Clay Travis announced his final morning show on Fox Sports 640 South Florida WMEN-AM and nationally at Fox Sports Radio on Friday. There has been no word who will replace Travis for the morning show locally. 
     Travis will co-host a national midday political show with Buck Sexton beginning on June 21. Travis replaced Joe Raineri in the morning shift on Fox Sports 640 in early March 2017. 

South Florida Upped To 15 Sports Radio Stations

     The landscape of sports radio format stations in South Florida changed again for the second time in just under two weeks. The number increased to 15 radio stations from 13.
     Beasley Media Group has moved ESPN Southwest Florida from 99.3 WWCN-FM to 770 WBCN-AM. The signal will be put on two different translators in the Fort Myers/Naples region at 98.1 FM and 104.3 FM. It joins two other FM translators for Fox Sports Radio Southwest Florida. 
     There are more sports radio stations on the eastern side of South Florida. It consists of four in Miami/Fort Lauderdale, four in West Palm Beach and two in Key West.

Bucks Bash Heat In Game 3

     The Milwaukee Bucks cashed in on the Miami Heat 113-84 in Game 3 on Thursday night at American Airlines Arena. The Bucks lead the best-of-seven series 3-0 and will go for the sweep on Saturday. 
     Milwaukee went on a 21-8 spurt to begin the contest and were up 26-14 after one quarter. The Bucks kept up the pace and led 49-36 at halftime. Miami was outscored in the third quarter and trailed 86-60. The Heat fell behind 103-73 with 5:43 left in the game. 
     Jimmy Butler contributed a team-high 19 points and eight rebounds for Miami. Bam Adebayo added 18 points along with eight rebounds. Goran Dragic was held to eight points and Duncan Robinson with two points. 
     Khris Middleton scored a game-high 22 points for the Bucks. Jrue Holiday got a double-double of 19 points and 12 assists. Giannis Antetokounmpo also compiled a double-double for Milwaukee with 17 points and 17 rebounds. 

Phillies Escape Marlins

     The Philadelphia Phillies got by the Miami Marlins 3-2 at loanDepot park on Thursday. Both teams ended up splitting the four-game series. The Marlins will be leaving town to begin a nine-game road trip. 
     Philadelphia(25-26) pulled ahead 2-0 during the fourth inning. Rhys Hoskins smashed a solo home run to left-center field on a 3-2 pitch. It was the 11th homer of the season for Hoskins. Matt Joyce later hit a sacrifice fly to center field and Odubel Herrera scored. 
     Miami(24-26) loaded the bases in the fifth inning and compiled one run. Jesus Aguilar drove in Sandy Leon with a sacrifice fly into center field. 
     In the bottom of the eighth, the Marlins evened it up 2-2. Garrett Cooper knocked in Jose Devers on a singled through the right side.
     The Phillies rallied in the ninth inning. Herrera lined a leadoff triple off the right-field wall and scored on a Ronald Torreyes fielder's choice to second. 

Christina De Nicola Sideline Reporter

     Christina De Nicola worked as a YouTube sideline reporter for the Miami Marlins and Philadelphia Phillies game at loanDepot park on Thursday. The announcing crew included former Marlin Cliff Floyd as a game analyst, University of Miami grad Scott Braun as play-by-play announcer and game analyst Dan Plesac. She was a college classmate of Braun's at Miami. 
     De Nicola was elevated to MLB.com Miami Marlins beat writer in January 2021 and replaced Joe Frisaro. She did write stories for MLB.com for several years. De Nicola once was an intern with the Miami Heat. 

Adnan Virk Gone From WWE

     Meadowlark Media contributor Adnan Virk is no longer with World Wrestling Entertainment. He held the position of Monday Night Raw play-by-play announcer from April 12 until May 24. 
     Virk, a Valparaiso University grad, will continue to contribute toward Meadowlark Media and their numerous podcasts which includes the Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz. He has worked the last couple of years with DAZN and MLB Network following a stint at ESPN from 2010 to 2019.

Lightning Eliminate Panthers In Game 6

     The Florida Panthers ended their 2020-21 campaign on Wednesday night. They were defeated by the Tampa Bay Lightning 4-0 in Game 6 at Amalie Arena and lost the best-of-seven series 4-2. The Panthers have still not won a postseason series since 1996. 
     Tampa Bay scored on their first shot on goal for the second straight game at the 6:16 mark of the first period. Mikhail Sergachev flipped the puck from his own blue line and Tyler Johnson beat Anton Stralman to the goal line to waive off icing. He made a backhand pass from the end wall and Pat Maroon poked it in from the top of the crease by Spencer Knight. It was Maroon's 18th career postseason goal. 
     In the second period, the Lightning expanded their lead to 2-0 with 6:33 left on a power-play tally. Nikita Kucherov pushed the puck back from the right circle to Victor Hedman at the top of the zone. He angled a pass to his left and Steven Stamkos fired a  one-time slap shot from the left-circle dot. 
     Florida surrendered another goal with 5:24 remaining in the third period and trailed 3-0. Erik Cernak cleared the puck out of the zone with a high diagonal pass and Kucherov picked it up on the left wing. He centered it and Brayden Point went around MacKenzie Weegar in the high slot, deked around Knight in the crease and slipped in a forehand shot from the blue paint. 
     The Panthers pulled their goalie for an extra skater with over three minutes to go. Cernak would connect a pass from the right wing and Killorn put it into an empty net with 1:42 left for his 30th postseason goal. 
     It was the second career postseason shutout for Lightning goalie Andrei Vasilevskiy. Knight lost his first NHL contest after going 4-0-0 in the regular season and postseason this year. 

Marlins Come Back On Phillies

     The Miami Marlins overcame the Philadelphia Phillies 4-2 on Wednesday night at loanDepot park. It was the third game of a four-game series. The Marlins jumped over the Phillies in the standings among National League East clubs. 
     Philadelphia(24-26) loaded the bases in the top of the third. Brad Miller was able to walk and Roman Quinn crossed the plate. 
     Miami(24-25) tied it up 1-1 in the bottom of the frame. Jesus Aguilar knocked in Jose Devers with a base hit into center field.  
     It became 2-1 for the Phillies in the fifth inning. Rhys Hoskins hit a sacrifice fly to right field and Jean Segura scored. 
     The Marlins leaped to the lead as they compiled three runs during the bottom of the eighth. Jon Berti singled through the right side for Adam Duvall and Isan Diaz to reach home. Devers followed and drove in Berti with a base hit through the left side.

War Memorial Auditorium Groundbreaking

     The official groundbreaking for the revitalization of the Fort Lauderdale War Memorial Auditorium was held on Tuesday. Representatives from the Florida Panthers organization which included Owner/Governor/Chairman Vincent Viola and CEO/President Matt Caudwell along with Fort Lauderdale Mayor Dean Trantalis, city officials and business leaders were in attendance. 
     The Fort Lauderdale War Memorial Auditorium has existed since 1950. A state-of-the-art practice and community ice rink facility will be constructed near to the current venue. The Baptist Health IcePlex is expected to open during the summer of 2022. It will become the new Florida Panthers practice facility.

Phillies Hold Marlins Scoreless

     The Philadelphia Phillies shut out the Miami Marlins 2-0 on Tuesday night at loanDepot park. Miami(23-25) had their three-game winning streak snapped. The Phillies leaped by the Fish in the National League East. 
     Philadelphia(24-25) got the only runs in the contest during the fourth inning. Rhys Hoskins pounded a two-run homer to left field on a 1-2 pitch. Brad Miller was able to score in front of him on the play. 

Dallas Cowboys Sign Johnnie Dixon

     The Dallas Cowboys have signed former Palm Beach County high school wide receiver Johnnie Dixon to a contract. He has not yet participated in a National Football League regular season game. 
     Dixon played high school football with the Dwyer Panthers and helped them win the FHSAA Class 7A state title in 2013. He went on to attend Ohio State University and was on the Buckeyes squad that captured the CFP National Championship in 2014.

Panthers Stay Alive In Game 5

     The Florida Panthers avoided being eliminated by the Tampa Lightning with a 4-1 victory in Game 5 at BB&T Center on Monday night. The Lightning now lead the best-of-seven series 3-2. 
     Spencer Knight made his postseason debut with the Panthers. He became the youngest goalie in NHL history to ever debut in a playoff elimination game and the second youngest goalie to win in his playoff debut. 
     Keith Yandle returned to the lineup after missing the last two contests that ended his consecutive game streak of combined regular season and postseason games at 979. It was the second longest in the history of the National Hockey League. 
     Tampa Bay jumped out to a 1-0 lead just 53 seconds into the first period. Ryan McDonagh made a right outlet pass from his own crease. Blake Coleman brought the puck down the right side from his own zone to the low right circle. He backhanded it to the middle and Ross Colton lifted in a forehand shot from the top of the crease. It was the Bolts first shot on goal in the game as Colton scored his second tally of the series. 
     Florida evened it up 1-1 at the 6:19 mark of the second period. Sam Bennett won a right-circle faceoff and Jonathan Huberdeau pushed it back. MacKenzie Weegar snapped a shot from the high slot by Andrei Vasilevskiy. Huberdeau became the first Panthers player with nine points in a playoff series.
     The Panthers moved ahead 2-1 with 3:05 left in the second. Mason Marchment shoveled the puck from the right wing to Aleksander Barkov behind the cage. He waited on the end wall, backhanded a centering pass and Marchment ripped with a one-time slap shot from the slot area. 
     In the third period, Florida extended it to a two-goal margin 3-1 on the power play 35 seconds in. Huberdeau placed a diagonal pass from the left wing to the high slot. Barkov one-timed a slap shot and it grazed off the right shoulder of Patric Hornqvist. 
     The Lightning pulled their goalie for an extra attacker with 2:15 to go. It did not work as Frank Vatrano scored from the blue line with 14.6 seconds remaining and a 4-1 lead. 

Bucks Bulldoze Heat In Game 2

     The Milwaukee Bucks trounced the Miami Heat 132-98 in Game 2 at Fiserv Forum on Monday night. The Bucks now lead the best-of-seven series 2-0. The Heat will host Game 3 of the best-of seven series on Thursday. 
     Milwaukee scored the first eight points of the contest on their way to a 19-4 start in the opening five minutes of play. They had a commanding 46-20 lead at the end of one quarter. 
     The Bucks had a 31-point cushion with 4:35 left in the second and were in front 78-51 at halftime. The Heat gave up the most points, assists and three-point shot made in a playoff half in franchise history. Miami could not gain any traction and trailed 107-78 at the end of the three quarters. 
     Dewayne Dedmon came off the bench and had a team-high 19 points for the Heat. Goran Dragic dropped in 18 points while Bam Adebayo placed in 16 points. Jimmy Butler and Duncan Robinson were both held to 10 points each. 
     Milwaukee was led by Giannis Antetokounmpo with a double-double of 31 points and 13 rebounds. Bryn Forbes added 22 points and Khris Middleton scored 17 points. 

Marlins Defeat Phillies

     The Miami Marlins outscored the Philadelphia Phillies 9-6 on Monday night at loanDepot park. The Marlins past the Phillies in the National League East standings. It was the first game of a four-game set in Miami. 
     Both clubs scored one run each during the second inning. Philadelphia(23-25) made it 1-0 when Ronald Torreyes singled up the middle for Brad Miller to score. Miami(23-24) evened it when Sandy Leon hit a sacrifice fly to left and Brian Anderson scored. 
     In the third inning, the Phillies reclaimed the lead. Rhys Hoskins smacked a ground-rule double to left field and Jean Segura reached home. The Fish matched them again tot tie it 2-2 as Miguel Rojas scored on a Jesus Aguilar double into left field. 
     The Marlins got their first lead in the bottom of the sixth. Corey Dickerson tripled to deep right for Adam Duvall and Jon Berti to score. 
     It became 8-2 for the Fish in the seventh inning. Aguilar knocked in Garrett Cooper on a base hit into right field. Duvall came up next and pounded a three-run homer to left field on the first pitch with Rojas and Aguilar aboard. 
     Miami extended the lead to 9-2 in the bottom of the eighth. Cooper drove in Magneuris Sierra with a double to left field. 
     Philadelphia garnered four runs in the final inning. Miller connected with a solo home run right field on a 3-2 count. Andrew McCutchen doubled to right field and Torreyes touched the plate. Nick Maton was able to score on a ground out by Odubel Herrera. Segura followed with a RBI-double into left and brought in McCutchen. 

13 Sports Radio Stations In South Florida

     The number of sports talk radio stations in the South Florida region dropped to 13 late last week. The area reached up to 16 sports radio stations in late March 2020. 
     The license to WNOG-AM in Naples was surrendered by Sun Broadcasting to the Federal Communications Commission. There are now three stations left in Southwest Florida which consists of 99.3 ESPN WWCN-FM and two FM translators for Fox Sports Radio at 103.3 FM and 105.9 FM . That area did have six different sports stations just over a year. 
     The Miami and Fort Lauderdale region stands at four stations with 560 The Joe WQAM-AM, Sports Talk 790 The Ticket WAXY-AM, Miami Sports 940 WINZ-AM and Unanimo Deportes 990 WMYM-AM. West Palm Beach has four stations which includes ESPN West Palm 106.3 WUUB-FM, Fox Sports 640 South Florida WMEN-AM, Sports Talk 1230 The Zone WBZT-AM and Deportes Radio 760 WEFL-AM. Key West consists of Sports Radio 1600 WKWF-AM and The Zone 97.7 Sports Radio WAVK-FM.

D'Eriq King On Athlon Sports Magazine Cover

     University of Miami Hurricanes quarterback D'Eriq King is on the magazine cover of Athlon Sports College Football Florida edition. King transferred from the University of Houston to Miami in January 2020. 
     King led the Canes offense during the 2020 season. He compiled 183 completions for 2,334 yards and 20 touchdowns in nine games. King also rushed 111 times for 467 yards and four touchdowns. 

Kaiir Elam On Magazine Covers

     University of Florida Gators defensive back Kaiir Elam appears on the cover of several magazines. He is on the magazine cover of Athlon Sports College Football Florida edition and Athlon Sports SEC Florida edition. 
     Elam played high school football with the Benjamin Buccaneers. He will be entering his third season with the Gators. His uncle Matt Elam once played for the Dwyer Panthers and the University of Florida. 

Marlins Topple Mets

     The Miami Marlins cruised by the New York Mets 5-1 at loanDepot park on Sunday. The Fish took two contests in the three-game series. 
     Miami(22-24) chalked up all of their five runs during the bottom of the second. Cody Poteet got an infield single and Brian Anderson scored. Jazz Chisholm Jr. then singled to center field for Garrett Cooper to score. Miguel Rojas came up next and drove in Sandy Leon along with  Poteet on a force out at second and a throwing error by Francisco Lindor. Aguilar followed with a base hit into center field and Rojas crossed the plate. 
     New York(21-19) avoided the shutout in the ninth inning. Wilfredo Tovar singled into left field and Johneshwy Fargas reached home.

Chicago Fire FC Shut Out Inter Miami CF

     Chicago Fire FC blanked Inter Miami CF 1-0 at Soldier Field on Saturday night. It was the first MLS appearance by Inter Miami CF in Chicago.
     There was only one goal in the entire contest. Chicago Fire FC got a tally by Luka Stojanovic during the 68th minute. 

Marlins Walk By Mets

     The Miami Marlins topped the New York Mets 3-1 at loanDepot park on Saturday. The Marlins and Mets will play the final game of the three-game set tomorrow. 
     Miami(21-24) waited until the seventh inning to take the lead. Corey Dickerson hit a sacrifice fly to left field and Brian Anderson crossed the plate. 
     New York(21-18) evened it up 1-1 in the top of the eighth. Dominic Smith singled through the right side and Jose Peraza scored. 
     It came down to the ninth inning for the Marlins to win the contest. Garrett Cooper a walk-off, two-run homer to right field on a 3-2 pitch with Anderson aboard. It was the fifth home run of the season for Cooper. 

Heat Edged By Bucks in Game 1

     The defending Eastern Conference champion Miami Heat had to go into overtime and fell to the Milwaukee Bucks 109-107 in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Quarterfinal on Saturday at Fiserv Forum. Both teams met in the Eastern Conference Semifinal last year with the Heat pulling off a series upset. The Heat set a franchise record with 20 three-point shots made in a postseason game. 
     Miami had a 24-22 advantage after one quarter, however Milwaukee led 53-50 by halftime. The Bucks held a slight 80-78 lead at the end of three quarters. Jimmy Butler made a running layup on the right side with no time remaining in the fourth to tie it 99-99.  
     Milwaukee got the first three points of overtime. Duncan Robinson hit his seventh three-point shot, which tied a Miami Heat playoff franchise record to tie it up 102-102. After both teams exchanged field goals, Brook Lopez converted with one free throw with 1:04 to go for a 105-104 lead. Jrue Holiday made a breakaway scoop shot in the lane and the Bucks led 107-104 with 39.3 seconds remaining. Goran Dragic hit a three-point shot from the left side to even it up 107-107, however Milwaukee answered back with a Khris Middleton fadeaway jump shot from the right side with 0:00.5 seconds left. 
    The Heat were led by Dragic with 25 points. Jimmy Butler compiled a double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Robinson contributed 24 points and Bam Adebayo dropped in nine points. 
     Giannis Antetokounmpo piled up 26 points and 18 rebounds for a double-double. Middleton scored 27 points while Holiday put together a double-double with 20 points and 11 rebounds for Milwaukee. 

Lightning Blow Out Panthers In Game 4

     The Tampa Bay Lightning pounded the Florida Panthers 6-2 in Game 4 at Amalie Arena on Saturday and lead the best-of-seven series 3-1. The Lightning can eliminate the Panthers from the postseason on Monday night. 
     Tampa Bay rocketed out to 1-0 lead three minutes into the first period on their first shot of the contest. Erik Cernak made a clearing pass from his own zone. Alex Killorn was at the red line and placed a square pass to Anthony Cirelli. He went in on a breakaway, skated through the slot and put a forehand shot by Sergei Bobrovsky.    
     The Lightning increased their lead to 2-0 at the 7:24 mark. Mikhail Sergachev moved the puck from the left point. Nikita Kucherov snapped a shot from the top of the zone and it was redirected in by Yanni Gourde from the right side of the crease. 
     Florida answered back with a power-play goal at 8:49. Sam Bennett took a snap shot from the right circle which was tipped by Patric Hornqvist in front. Huberdeau got to the rebound and scored on a wrist shot past Andrei Vasilevskiy from low left-circle dot. 
     It became 3-1 for the Bolts with 3:15 remaining in the first. Kucherov sent a diagonal pass from the left wing to Cernak on the right point. He ripped a slap shot that was deflected in by Ondrej Palat in the low slot. The Cats surrendered three goals on the Lightning's first six shots of the game. 
     In the second period, Tampa Bay converted on a power play to gain a three-goal cushion 4-1 at 5:41. Victor Hedman angled a pass from the top of the zone. Kucherov flicked a slap pass from the right-circle dot and Killorn tapped the puck in from the blue paint. It was Kucherov's third assist of the game. 
     The Lightning expanded it to a 5-1 lead at the 7:15 mark. Cirelli forwarded it down the right side from the neutral zone. Steven Stamkos raced to the puck in the right corner and connected a centering pass. Killorn scored on a one-time snap shot from the slot area. The Panthers decided to replace Bobrovsky in the net after that play. 
     The Panthers tried to stay in the game on a power-play tally and 1:15 left in the second and trailed 5-2. Huberdeau passed from the left point across to Aleksander Barkov at the blue line. He found Carter Verhaeghe ahead of him in the left circle and he lifted in a backhand shot from the low slot. 
     The Bolts made it 6-2 with the man advantage at the 4:47 mark of the third period. Killorn cycled it from behind the cage. Stamkos slid the puck from the left circle to the low right circle and Kucherov crushed a one-time slap shot for his fourth point of the contest.

Mets Outduel Marlins

     The Miami Marlins were defeated by the New York Mets 6-5 in 12 innings at loanDepot park on Friday night. It was the beginning of a seven-game homestand for the Fish. 
     New York(21-17) powered out to a 2-0 lead during the top of the first. Francisco Lindor doubled to right field for Jonathan Villar to score. Dominic Smith later drove in Lindor as he flew out to center field.
     Miami(20-24) tallied one run in the second inning and trailed 2-1. Sandy Leon connected with a sacrifice fly into center field and Adam Duvall crossed the plate. 
     The Mats got back their two-run margin in the fourth inning. Tomas Nido knocked in Smith on a double into deep left. 
     In the seventh inning, the Marlins added two runs to tie the contest 3-3. Garrett Cooper smacked a two-run homer to left field on a 1-2 pitch. Brian Anderson was able to score in front of him on the play. 
     There was no more scoring until New York broke it open in the top of the 12th. Khalil Lee doubled into the right-field corner for his first major league hit and Smith reached home. Johneshwy Fargas came up and sliced a two-run triple past a diving Duvall in right which scored Jake Hager and Lee. 
     The Fish made a valiant comeback in the bottom of the frame with two runs, however they fell short. Miguel Rojas lined a base hit into center field to score Magneuris Sierra. Jazz Chisholm Jr. would score a run when Corey Dickerson bounced into a double play. 

Timon Parris Signs With Dolphins

     Timon Parris has agreed to join the Miami Dolphins for the 2021 season. The offensive tackle did sign a contract. 
     Parris has previously been involved in the National Football League. He played in four games overall with the Washington Football Team in 2018 and 2019.

Panthers Survive Lightning In Game 3

     The Florida Panthers edged the Tampa Bay Lightning 6-5 in overtime during Game 3 of the Central Division first round on Thursday night at Amalie Arena. The Panthers have closed the series to 2-1 and both clubs will meet again in Tampa on Saturday. Keith Yandle, who currently has played in 922 consecutive regular season games, was scratched by the Panthers and did not play. 
      Florida moved in front 1-0 at the 4:31 mark of the first period.  Owen Tippett made an outlet pass through the neutral zone. Jonathan Huberdeau sent a diagonal pass from the left wing and Sam Bennett one-timed a backhanded shot from the inner right circle by Andrei Vasilevskiy. It was Bennett's 12th career postseason goal and his third point of the series. 
     The Panthers extended their lead to 2-0 at 7:05. Huberdeau won a faceoff in the left circle and shuffled the puck to Gustav Forsling on the left point. Radko Gudas had his initial shot from the right point blocked by Ondrej Palat, but he got to the puck and he burned his former team on a wrist shot from the right-circle dot. It was his first Stanley Cup Playoff goal in 23 postseason games. 
     Tampa Bay cut it 2-1 just 1:57 into the second period. Alex Killorn recovered the puck in the left corner on a Panthers turnover and backed it to Victor Hedman at the left point. His snap shot was saved by Chris Driedger, however Anthony Cirelli scooped in the rebound from the top of the crease. It was Cirelli's seventh career playoff goal. and first tally in the last 29 games. 
     The Lightning tied the contest 2-2 at 5:46. Ross Colton got to the loose puck in the left corner, went to the low right circle and roofed a snap shot. Colton, who is in his rookie season, scored his first playoff goal. 
     The Bolts put in their third unanswered goal at the 7:38 mark. Ryan McDonagh intercepted a pass at the red line and brought it to the left side of the Florida zone. He sent a cross-ice pass from the left wing and Steven Stamkos redirected it in from the low slot. Stamkos collected his second tally of the series and 26th career postseason goal.
     Florida got a power-play goal with 7:26 remaining in the second to even it at 3-3. MacKenzie Weegar was at the top of the zone and angled a pass to his right. Alex Wennberg released a wrist shot from above the right circle. It was the fifth postseason goal for Wennberg.
     It became a 4-3 game for Tampa Bay with 5:43 left in the frame as they converted on the power play with a set piece. Stamkos passed from the left wing to Hedman at the blue line and he sent it to Nikita Kucherov in the right circle. He fed the puck to the slot area and Brayden Point blasted a one-time slap shot from the slot area. 
     The Lightning scored on another power-play opportunity with 1:43 to go in the third  to make it a two-goal margin. Point pushed the puck back from the top right circle to Hedman in the high slot. His lead pass was eventually put in the cage by Killorn at the top of the crease. 
     The Bolts set a franchise playoff record with five goals in a period. After the second period ended, Driedger was replaced in goal by Sergei Bobrovsky. 
     In the third period, the Panthers trailed 5-4 with a power-play goal  at the 1:45 mark. Aleksander Barkov forwarded the puck from the left point. Huberdeau put a shot on net and it was deflected off the right skate of Patric Hornqvist in the blue paint. It was the third assist for Huberdeau in the contest. 
     Florida stayed alive and tied it 5-5 with 3:07 left in the third. Hornqvist touched the puck in the right corner and Wennberg made an outlet pass to the middle of the zone. Forsling snapped a shot from the high slot for his first career playoff goal.      
     Game 3 was decided in overtime as Florida picked up the victory at the 5:56 mark. Frank Vatrano guided the puck to Ryan Lomberg at the Lightning blue line. He went in on a breakaway and scored on a snap shot from the low slot for his first playoff goal. It was the Panthers first overtime playoff goal since Mike Hough scored against the Philadelphia Flyers in Game 5 the 1996 Eastern Conference Semifinals in double overtime.                 

Marlins Push By Phillies

     The Miami Marlins shut out the Philadelphia Phillies 6-0 at Citizens Bank Park on Thursday night. The Marlins concluded their 10-game road trip with a 5-5 record. The Fish will begin a new homestand on Friday against the New York Mets. 
     Miami(20-23) scored first during the second inning. Miguel Rojas connected with a solo home run to left field on a 1-0 pitch. 
     In the third inning, the Marlins increased their lead to 3-0. Garrett Cooper powered a two-run homer to left field with Corey Dickerson aboard on a 1-2 count.
     Philadelphia(22-22) surrendered two more runs in the top of the sixth inning and trailed 5-0. Cooper tripled to deep right field and Dickerson crossed the plate. Three batters later, Chad Wallach grounded out to second for Cooper to score. 

West Palm Beach Ratings April 2021

     The West Palm Beach radio ratings were released for sports talk formats. The time span went from the first week of April until the final week of April. 
     There was a big adjustment to the daily weekday lineup of ESPN West Palm 106.3 to begin April. The station launched a new one-hour midday show with Ken LaVicka and Chris Kokell. Kristina Costanza added duties as a co-host on Josh Cohen and The Home Team alongside Din Thomas. Evan Cohen continued his one-hour afternoon show with Ginette Javier. 
     Fox Sports 640 South Florida WMEN-AM remained at a 0.2 for the fifth straight month and ninth occasion in 11 months. The New York Yankees were off to their worst start since the 1973 season. The Florida Panthers clinched a playoff spot at the end of the month for their seventh possession appearance in franchise history. 
     Sports Talk 1230 The Zone WBZT-AM stayed at a 0.0 for the 13th time in 14 months. The Miami Marlins had a mediocre start to begin the regular season. 

Meadowlark Media Adds More Talent

     Meadowlark Media has added Kate Fagan and Tom Haberstroh to their personnel. Both will contribute to the numerous Meadowlark Media podcasts. 
     Fagan recently worked with the ESPN organization. She was a writer for ESPN The Magzaine, a panelist on Around The Horn and a Saturday midday co-host on ESPN Radio. Fagan wrote about sports was the Philadelphia Inquirer prior to ESPN. 
     Haberstroh covered four NBA Finals that the Miami Heat participated in during the early 2010s. He previously had stints with ESPN, Bleacher Report and NBC Sports reporting on the National Basketball Association.

Marlins Handle Phillies

     The Miami Marlins got by the Philadelphia Phillies 3-1 on Wednesday night at Citizens Bank Park. The Fish will finish their 10-game road swing on Thursday. 
     Miami(19-23) scored in ;the the second inning to go up 1-0. Brian Andersen cracked a solo home run on a 1-1 pitch to right-center field. 
     It became 2-0 for the Fish in the top of the sixth. Adam Duvall knocked in Miguel Rojas with a base hit through the left side. 
     Philadelphia(22-21) responded with one run and were down 2-1. Andrew McCutchen blasted a solo home run to left field on a 2-2 count for his seventh homer of the season. 
     The Marlins reclaimed a two-run gap 3-1 in the seventh inning. Jazz Chisholm Jr. got a bases-loaded single in front of the plate for Garrett Cooper to cross the plate. 

Cardinal Gibbons Intersquad Scrimmage

     The Cardinal Gibbons Chiefs opened up the high school football spring schedule in South Florida with an intersquad scrimmage at Dr. Bud Tight Field in Fort Lauderdale. It was held in the daytime at the place that has been known as The Furnace. The Chiefs are the defending FHSAA Class 4A state champions and have captured two state titles in the last three years. 
     Cardinal Gibbons will have a tremendous battle for the starting quarterback position between American Heritage transfer Dylan Rizk and Blake Kendall Jr. heading toward the regular season. Rizk ran the offense during their first two possessions in the first half and reached the 25-yard line of the defense. Adrien Alfieri kicked a 43-yard field goal to get the first points for the offense. 
     Kendall came in for the next two sets. His best effort in the two possessions was to guide them to the opponent's 38-yard line.
     Lou Murdoch entered the scrimmage as their third quarterback. He fired a swing pass to the right sideline for 18-yard touchdown just before halftime. 
     Murdoch went out for his second drive to begin the second half. Cornerback Adonis Allen intercepted a pass and returned it 67 yards for a score. 
     Rizk reentered the game and marched the Chiefs down the field. He connected a 13-yard pass to Davon Kiser on the right side of the end zone. 
     The Cardinal Gibbons defense did have some bright spots. Defensive end Mason Thomas was able to sack the quarterback three times. 

Miami Heat First Playoff Game Set

     The National Basketball Association announced on Tuesday the beginning of several first-round series. They will occur following the NBA Play-In Series have completed. 
     The Miami Heat will start their postseason in Milwaukee on Saturday afternoon. The Heat are seeded sixth in the Eastern Conference while the Bucks are seeded third. Miami upset Milwaukee during the NBA Playoffs last year on their way to becoming Eastern Conference champions. 

Patrick Surtain II Signs With Broncos

     The Denver Broncos have signed cornerback Patrick Surtain II. It is a four-year contract worth $20.8 million. 
     Surtain played high school football with the American Heritage Patriots and helped the school win three FHSAA Class 5A state titles in 2014, 2016 and 2017. He attended the University of Alabama for three years and led the Crimson Tide to the 2020 CFP National Championship.

Lightning Top Panthers In Game 2

     The Florida Panthers lost to the Tampa Bay Lightning 3-1 in Game 2 on Tuesday night in BB&T Center and now trail in the series 2-0. The best-of-seven Central Division first-round series will move to Tampa for Game 3 and Game 4. 
     It was just the 11th postseason game ever played in Sunrise. The Panthers have a 3-8 all-time record in that venue.  
     Tampa Bay got a 1-0 lead at the 4:54 mark of the first period. David Savard forwarded the puck from the right point to Alex Killorn at the right-circle dot. He sent a cross-ice pass to Steven Stamkos in the low left circle and his pass across the crease went off the right knee of Anton Stralman and into the Panthers cage. 
     The Bolts made it 2-0 with 5:02 left in the first. Nikita Kucherov backhanded a pass at the red line. Brayden Point raced down the left side, around MacKenzie Weegar in the left circle and lifted a wrist shot that hit the crossbar. Ondrej Palat hustled to the inner right circle and snapped a shot by Chris Driedger. It was the 33rd career postseason goal for Palat. 
     In the second period, Florida cut the lead to 2-1 with 5:39 remaining. Aleksander Barkov moved the puck from the left corner to  Carter Verhaeghe on the right goal line. He centered it and Mason Marchment tapped it in from the top of the crease past Andrei Vasilevskiy for his first career playoff goal.  
     The Panthers pulled Driedger from the net with 2:17 to go in the third period for an extra attacker. Keith Yandle had an outlet pass tipped away by Palat at his own blue line. Yanni Goudre ripped a forehand from center ice into the empty net with 1:25 left for a 3-1 lead. 

Phillies Fight Off Marlins

     The Miami Marlins stopped to the Philadelphia Phillies 8-3 at Citizens Bank Park on Tuesday night. The Marlins now have a  3-5 record on their 10-game road trip.
     Miami(18-23) got up 1-0 in the fourth inning. Adam Duvall hit a sacrifice fly to center field for Jazz Chisholm Jr. to score. 
     Philadelphia(22-20) evened it 1-1 during the bottom of the seventh. Andrew McCutchen knocked in Nick Maton with a sacrifice fly into center field.
     The Marlins retook the lead in the top of the eighth. Jon Berti struck out and reached first on a wild pitch. Chisholm followed and smacked a two-run homer to right-center field on a 3-1 pitch. 
     The Phillies answered back in the bottom of the frame as they compiled seven runs for a 8-3 lead. 

Miami Ratings April 2021

     The radio ratings were issued for the Miami/Fort Lauderdale market for sports talk format stations. The time period was from the first week of April to the last week of April. There was a tie for first place in the region. 
     560 The Joe WQAM-AM had an increase from a 0.6 to a 0.7 in the month. The Florida Panthers contended for the top of the Central Division and clinched a postseason position. The audience has gotten use to the ESPN Radio midday show block with Mike Greenberg, Alan Hahn and Bart Scott. 
     Sports Talk 790 The Ticket WAXY-AM went from a 0.5 to a 0.7 during the period. The Miami Heat tried to stay within the top eight playoff spots in the Eastern Conference. 
     Miami Sports 940 WINZ-AM remained at a 0.2 for the second straight month. There was a buzz to the beginning of the 2021 baseball season and the Miami Marlins had an average start.

High School Football Spring Schedule

     South Florida high school football teams will compete in spring football games and scrimmages over the next two weeks. There was no spring football in 2020 with high school athletics shut down due to the coronavirus pandemic. 
     The defending FHSAA Class 4A state champions Cardinal Gibbons and Hialeah will hold intersquad scrimmages on Wednesday. Coconut Creek is at Cavalry Christian Academy and Pompano Beach visits Westminster Academy on that day. Somerset Academy-Pembroke Pines is scheduled to face Pembroke Pines Charter. South Miami, Ferguson, Ronald Reagan and Westminster Christian are expected to play in a spring jamboree. 
     Plantation will play in an intersquad scrimmage on Thursday. There are three Palm Beach County contests as John I. Leonard hosts Miami Immaculata LaSalle, Benjamin is at Boynton Beach and Glades Day stays at home against Berean Christian. Florida Christian and St. Brendan play at Doral Academy while Northeast hosts Mourning and Hialeah Gardens in jamborees. 
     Friday will have the largest schedule of spring football games headlined by The Muck rivals Glades Central at Clewiston. The large slate includes Miramar at Boyd Anderson, Suncoast at Forest Hill, Seminole Ridge visiting Boca Raton, Santaluces riding to The King's Academy, Pahokee at St. John Paul II and Centennial at Port St. Lucie. Other contests are Coral Reef heading to Varela, Miami Springs off to Archbishop McCarthy and Miami GDS Christian making the longest trip of all South Florida high schools to Zephyrhills Christian. 
     Dwyer and Homestead will be involved in intersquad scrimmages. There is neutral site jamboree on the Treasure Coast between Fort Pierce Central, Jensen Beach and South Fork. There is a proposed jamboree with Mater Academy, Somerset Academy Silver Palms and Southwest Miami at Miami Goleman. 
      There are several spring jamborees on Saturday that will feature a bunch of two-quarter contests for each school involved. Palm Beach Gardens will host Atlantic, Miami Edison and Miami Southridge. Park Vista, Lake Worth and Jupiter will head for Martin County. 
     Spring football games resume the following week. Dillard visits Monarch, Dr. Krop is at Taravella and Palmer Trinity travels to Pine Crest on May 26. 
     The second most local games will occur on May 27. It includes Stranahan at Deerfield Beach, Miami Central at Hallandale, Flanagan at Stoneman Douglas, Royal Palm Beach at Wellington, Coral Gables at Belen Jesuit and Somerset Academy Canyons at Olympic Heights. South Plantation hosts a jamboree against Coral Springs, Coral Glades and Everglades. The defending FHSAA Class 5A state champions American Heritage has an intersquad contest in Plantation. 
     There will be one final contest in Dade County on May 28. North Miami Beach will head for Columbus to close out South Florida spring high school football. 

Kelvin Benjamin Going To Giants

     Former local high school football player Kelvin Benjamin has signed a deal with the New York Giants. He has made several stops while in the National Football League. Benjamin begin with the Carolina Panthers from 2014 until 2017, followed by the Buffalo Bills from 2017 to 2018 and finally with the Kansas City Chiefs in 2018.
     Benjamin was first noticed participating with the Glades Central Raiders. His final play in high school football was a touchdown reception during a regular season away game at the Boynton Beach Tigers in 2010. He went to Florida State University and helped the Seminoles capture the 2013 BCS National Championship over Auburn University with a game-winning touchdown reception.

Lightning Take Panthers In Game 1

     The Florida Panthers opened up the 2021 Stanley Cup Playoffs with a 5-4 loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning in Game 1 at BB&T Center on Sunday night. It is the seventh postseason appearance for the Panthers franchise in their 27-season history. It was only the fourth Stanley Cup Playoff game in National Hockey League history that had four lead changes. 
     Tampa Bay started the scoring at the 7:42 mark of the first period with a shorthanded goal. Ryan McDonagh banked the puck out of his defensive zone to center ice. Yanni Gourde got to the Panthers blue line and passed it to the middle. Blake Coleman skated with it to the low slot and backhanded a shot past Sergei Bobrovsky. 
     Florida was able to even it at 1-1 at 9:41 as Aleksander Barkov picked up a power-play goal. Keith Yandle placed the puck from the left point to Jonathan Huberdeau on the left wing. He sent it across the ice and Barkov rifled a one-time slap shot from the top fo the right circle by Andrei Vasilevskiy. 
     The Cats took their first lead 2-1 with 3:29 remaining when Carter Verhaeghe scored against his former team. Verhaeghe made a cross-ice pass from the right point to Barkov on the left wing. He returned it back from the left circle and Verhaeghe blasted a one-time slap shot from the high slot. Barkov and Yandle compiled their second assists of the contest. 
     In the second period, the Lightning tied the contest 2-2 with the man advantage at 4:58. Steven Stamkos put the puck back from the left circle to Victor Hedman in the high slot. He angled a pass to his right and Nikita Kucherov scored on a snap shot from the low right circle. 
     The Bolts added another power-play goal with 5:09 left in the second and led 3-2. Brandon Montour coughed up the puck in the left corner. Hedman connected a cross-ice pass from the low left circle and Kucherov put in a snap shot from the low left circle. 
     The early part of the third period was taken over by Florida. Sam Bennett advanced the puck with a pass ahead from the Panthers blue line. Huberdeau went in on a breakaway and slipped in a soft forehand shot from the low slot at 1:27 to tie it 3-3. 
     The Panthers reclaimed the lead at the 4:09 mark of the third period to make it 4-3. Bennett tipped a pass ahead to Huberdeau on the left side. He brought it to the crease area, made a spinning pass and Owen Tippett released a shot from the left of the crease. 
     Tampa Bay bounced back and evened the game 4-4 with 7:00 to go in the third on their third power-play goal. Hedman stopped a clearing pass at the top of the zone and passed to Kucherov above the right circle. He made a slap pass to the low slot and Brayden Point one-timed a shot into a half-empty net. 
     The Lightning finished off the comeback with 1:14 left in the final frame to take a 5-4 lead. McDonaugh made a long lead pass from his own high slot area up the middle of the ice. Point carried the puck on a breakaway from the Panthers blue line into the low slot area and scored on a backhand shot. 

Heat Dispose Pistons

     The Miami Heat played their regular season finale and took the Detroit Pistons 120-107 at Little Caesars Arena on Sunday night. The Heat will play Milwaukee Bucks in the first round of the NBA Playoffs next week. 
     Miami(40-32) dominated and rocketed out to a 32-13 at the end of the first quarter. The Heat continued with the momentum and held a 69-47 advantage at halftime. Detroit(20-52) tried to make it into a contest with a 15-8 spurt to began the second half and trailed 95-71 after three quarters. 

Marlins Come Back Against Dodgers

     The Miami Marlins avoided a sweep by the Los Angeles Dodgers with a 3-2 win at Dodger Stadium on Sunday. The Marlins are now 3-4 on their 10-game road trip and next head to Philadelphia. 
     Los Angeles(22-18) compiled two runs in the bottom of the second. Austin Barnes doubled to left field and Sheldon Neuse scored. Two batters later, Mookie Betts knocked in Barnes on a base hit into left field. 
     Miami(18-22) overcame the deficit during the fifth inning with three runs. Adam Duvall ripped a three-run homer to left field on a 0-1 pitch with Pablo Lopez and Jazz Chisholm Jr. aboard. 

Inter Miami CF Spoil FC Cincinnati

     Inter Miami CF stopped a three-game winless streak with a 3-2 win over FC Cincinnati at TQL Stadium on Sunday. It was the first Major League Soccer game ever played in the new facility,
     In the first half, Inter Miami CF jumped to a 1-0 lead during the seventh minute of play. Gregore made a cross came from the right side of the field and Brek Shea volleyed the ball in with the right foot from five yards away. It was the first goal ever scored at TQL Stadium. 
     It became 2-0 for Inter Miami CF in the 37th minute. Federico Higuain backheeled a lead pass with his right foot. Gonzalo Higuain dribbled the ball into the middle of the box and placed a soft left-footed shot from 16 yards out. It was Higuain's third tally this season.
     FC Cincinnati scored in the 59th minute and closed the gap to 2-1. Alvaro Barreal got behind the defense and chipped a 17-yard shot over the goaltender with his left leg. 
     In the 79th minute, FC Cincinnati tied the contest 2-2. Luciano Acosts took a corner kick from the left side and Nick Hagglund headed the ball into the top let corner of the net from seven yards away. 
     It was answered back quickly by Inter Miami CF during the 85th minute. Lewis Morgan centered the ball from the right side of the box and Higuain pushed in a right-footed shot from six yards out for his second goal of the game and 5th MLS career goal. 

Chris Bosh Elected To Hall Of Fame

     Chris Bosh has been elected to the Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield, Massachusetts. His induction ceremony will be later on this year. 
     Bosh is most known for his six-year tenure with the Miami Heat. He was part of the Big Three with LeBron James and Dwyane Wade. They combined to capture two NBA championships in 2012 and 2013 along with four consecutive Eastern Conference title from 2011 to 2014. 

Visiting Media At Panthers Games

     More visiting media from outside of South Florida will be covering the Stanley Cup Playoffs first-round clash between the Tampa Bay Lightning and Florida Panthers. Media from out of the local region has rarely come to Sunrise in the 2020-21 season due to the coronavirus pandemic and budget constraints. 
     No television talent from the other seven teams in the Central Division attended contests during the regular season campaign. Only once this year had any outside team radio announcers shown up at BB&T Center. The Columbus Blue Jackets had their radio crew with Bob McElligott call games in-person on April 19 and April 20. 
     Visiting beat writers also have not been in South Florida for Panthers games. The only occasion was the final two games of the regular season when Tampa Bay Times Lightning beat writer Eduardo Encina was in the press box on May 8 and May 10.

Dodgers Blank Marlins

     The Los Angeles Dodgers shut out the Miami Marlins 7-0 on Saturday night at Dodger Stadium. The Dodgers extended their winning streak up to four games. They look to sweep Miami(17-22) in the three-game series on Sunday.  
     Los Angeles(22-17) picked up two runs during the fourth inning. Chris Taylor walked with the bases loaded for Justin Turner to score. Two batters later, Gavin Lux grounded out to second and Max Muncy scored. 
     The Dodgers made it 4-0 in the bottom of the fifth. Muncy knocked in Mookie Betts with a base hit into left field. Taylor grounded softly to the pitcher which brought in Sheldon Neuse. 
     It became 7-0 for Los Angeles in the eighth inning. D.J. Peters singled into center field to score Taylor and Luke Raley. Betts came up next and drove in Lux on a sacrifice fly to center field. 

Bucks Roar By Heat

    The Milwaukee Bucks got a 122-108 victory over the Miami Heat on Saturday night. The loss snapped the Heat's four-game winning streak. The Bucks remain in third place among Eastern Conference teams. 
     Milwaukee(46-25) raced out to a 44-28 lead after one quarter and held a 70-51 lead at halftime. Miami(39-32) could not gain any traction and were down 99-81 at the end of three quarters. 
     Kendrick Nunn scored a game-high 31 points for the Heat. Duncan Robinson and Goran Dragic both had 17 points each. 
     Khris Middleton and Bryn Forbes both contributed 21 points each for the Bucks. Jrue Holiday compiled a double-double of 21 points and 10 assists. Giannis Antetokounmpo fell short of a double-double with 15 points and nine rebounds.

Dodgers Dump Marlins

     The defending World Series champion Los Angeles Dodgers outscored the Miami Marlins 9-6 at Dodger Stadium on Friday night. The Marlins had their two-game win streak ended. The Dodgers now have a three-game winning streak. 
     Los Angeles(21-17) piled on eight runs in the bottom of the second. A.J. Pollock hit a ball through the left side and Chris Taylor scored. Austin Barnes came up next and drove in Gavin Lux with a double into left field. Clayton Kershaw followed and brought in Matt Beaty on a base hit up the middle to center. Mookie Betts then doubled down the left-field line and Barnes crossed the plate. 
     Corey Seager singled through the left side for Kershaw to score. Max Muncy capped the frame as he crushed a three-run homer on a 2-1 pitch over the center-field fence for his eighth home run of the season. Betts and Seager scored in front of him on the play. 
     Miami(17-21) answered back with four runs during the top of the fourth. Garrett Cooper lined a base hit into right-center field to bring in Magneuris Sierra. Adam Duvall followed and smacked a three-run homer to left field on a 2-2 count with Miguel Rojas and Cooper aboard. 
     The Marlins added one run and were down 8-5 in the fifth inning. Cooper doubled to left field and Rojas reached home.
     It became 9-5 for the Dodgers in the bottom of the seventh. Lux lined out to pitcher Ross Detwiler and he made a throwing error for Justin Turner to score. 
     The Fish were able to load the bases in the eighth inning. Sandy Leon was hit by a pitch and Brian Anderson scored to make it 9-6.

Jaylen Waddle Signs With Dolphins

     The Miami Dolphins have signed wide receiver Jaylen Waddle. It is a four-year deal worth $27.1 million.
     Waddle was taken by the Miami Dolphins sixth overall in the 2021 NFL Draft last month. He was part of the University of Alabama Crimson Tide that won the 2020 CFP National Championship. 

Eagles Sign Trevon Grimes

     The Philadelphia Eagles have signed wide receiver Trevon Grimes. The former local high school football player was an undrafted free agent. 
     Grimes was first noticed at St. Thomas Aquinas and helped the Raiders win three FHSAA Class 7A state championships in 2014, 2015 and 2016. He played college football with the Ohio State Buckeyes and later the University of Florida Gators.

Marlins Outduel Diamondbacks

     The Miami Marlins rushed by the Arizona Diamondbacks 5-1 at Chase Field on Thursday night. It was the final game of a four-game set between both teams. 
     In the third inning, Miami(17-20) scored and led 1-0. Miguel Rojas singled up the middle for Magneuris Sierra to score.  
     Arizona(17-21) evened it up 1-1 during the fifth inning. Pavin Smith hit a sacrifice fly to center field and Tim Locastro crossed the plate. 
     The Fish reclaimed the lead 2-2 in the top of the sixth. Brian Anderson drove in Corey Dickerson with a base hit into right field. 
     It became a four-run margin for the Marlins in the seventh inning. Jesus Aguilar lined a single to right field for Garrett Cooper to reach home. Dickerson followed and knocked in Rojas with a single to right. Adam Duvall came up next with a base hit to shallow center and Aguilar scored. 

Heat Blaze By 76ers

     The Miami Heat played their regular season home finale and beat the Philadelphia 76ers 106-94 at American Airlines Arena on Thursday night. The Heat have won four straight games and 11 of their last 14 contests. Miami remains in fifth place in the Eastern Conference while the Sixers are in first. 
     Udonis Haslem made his first appearance with the Heat this season with 59.3 seconds left in the first quarter. He had four points in three minutes of play and then was ejected. It marked the 18th season he has been with Miami. He helped the Heat win three NBA titles in 2006, 2012 and 2013. 
      Miami(39-31) rolled out to a 38-22 lead at the end of the first quarter. They were able to stay in front 60-41 by halftime. Philadelphia(47-23) could not cut the deficit and were down 89-67 after three quarters.
     The Heat were led by Jimmy Butler with 21 points. Bam Adebayo compiled a double-double of 18 points, 12 rebounds and eight assists. Tyler Herro contributed 18 points, Goran Dragic had 15 points and Kendrick Nunn had 13 points. 
     Tobias Harris poured in a team-high 21 points for the 76ers. Shake Milton dropped in 12 points and Danny Green scored 11 points. 

Florida Panthers Announcers Going On Road

     Florida Panthers broadcasters will travel for road games in the upcoming Stanley Cup Playoff first-round series against the Tampa Bay Lightning. The telecasts will be on Bally Sports Florida. Play-by-play announcer Steve Goldstein and game analyst Randy Moller will work games from Amalie Arena in Tampa.  
     The Panthers announcing crew had done away games from either BB&T Center in Sunrise or Bally Sports Florida television studios in Fort Lauderdale this season. The last time Panthers on-air personnel broadcast a game in-person at a road venue was back on March 9, 2020 in St. Louis. 
     The National Hockey League has allowed regional sports networks to broadcast first-round contests for over a decade. National networks air the final three rounds of the Stanley Cup Playoffs exclusively. 

Victor Oladipo Gone For Season

     The season has come to an end for Miami Heat forward Victor Oladipo. He had season-ending surgery for his right quadricept tendon on Thursday. 
     Oladipo was acquired by the Heat just prior to the NBA trade deadline in March from the Houston Rockets. He played only four games with Miami and last participated on April 8. He averaged 19.8 points, 4.8 rebounds and 4.6 assists per game during the 2020-21 campaign. 

Florida Panthers First Round Schedule

     The National Hockey League have issued the schedule to begin the 2021 Stanley Cup Playoffs. The Florida Panthers will play the Tampa Bay Lightning in the first round inside the Central Division.
     The Panthers will host Game 1 on Sunday and Game 2 on Tuesday at BB&T Center in Sunrise. They will travel to Amalie Arena in Tampa Bay to face the Lightning on May 20 in Game 3 and May 22 in Game 4. 
     The series will return to South Florida for Game 5 on May 24. Game 6 will be in Tampa on May 26 and Game 7 takes place in Sunrise on May 28. 
     Florida gets to host postseason games for the first time since 2016. The Panthers played in Toronto for their Stanley Cup Qualifying Series last year in a centralized bubble venue due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Marlins Scoot By Diamondbacks

     The Miami Marlins passed by the Arizona Diamondbacks 3-2 on Wednesday night at Chase Field. The Marlins snapped a four-game losing streak. 
     Miami(16-20) jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first. Jesus Aguilar smashed a two-run homer to left field on a 1-1 pitch with Miguel Rojas aboard. 
     Arizona(17-20) got one run in the bottom of the first. David Peralta drove in Josh Rojas on a double into left field. 
     The Fish made it 3-1 in the second inning. Sandy Leon powered a solo home run to left-center field on a 2-0 count for his first homer in a Marlins uniform.
     In the fifth inning, the Diamondbacks closed the gap. Andrew Young connected with a solo homer to left-center field on a 1-2 pitch. 

Inter Miami CF Blanked By CF Montreal

     CF Montreal blanked Inter Miami CF 2-0 on Wednesday night at DRV PNK Stadium. It was the first time during the 2021 Major League Soccer regular season that Inter Miami CF did not play a weekend contest. Inter Miami CF is winless in their last three games. 
     CF Montreal scored during the 13th minute to get a 1-0 lead. Bjorn Johnsen got the ball on the left side of the box and placed a left-footed shot from 11 yards away toward the near post. 
     It became 2-0 for CF Montreal in the 25th minute. Johnsen collected his second goal of the match when he put in a one-time shot with his right foot from four yards out off the right post.

Miami Dolphins 2021 Schedule

     The National Football League released the 2021 regular season schedule on Wednesday night. All teams will play a 17-game schedule and have one bye week this year. 
     The Miami Dolphins will open their 2021 campaign at New England against the Patriots on September 12. The Dolphins will play a road game during Week 6 versus the Jacksonville Jaguars in London on October 17. The Fins will have nine home games, seven road games and one neutral site contest this season. 
     Miami will have their home opener in Week 2 versus the Buffalo Bills, go on the road to visit the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 4 and host the Indianapolis Colts in Week 4. The Dolphins then play consecutive road contests against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Jacksonville Jaguars.
     The Fins play at home three of their next four games. They host the Atlanta Falcons in Week 7, Houston Texans in Week 9 and Baltimore Ravens in Week 10. They are at the Buffalo Bills in Week 8 and the New York Jets in Week 11. 
     The Dolphins then play three consecutive home games. They face the Carolina Panthers in Week 12, New York Giants in Week 13 and New York Jets in Week 15. The team will have a bye during Week 14. 
     They finish the regular season at the New Orleans Saints in Week 16, at the Tennessee Titans in Week 17 and have their season finale hosting the New England Patriots in Week 18.

Diamondbacks Sting Marlins

     The Arizona Diamondbacks broke away from the Miami Marlins 11-3 at Chase Field on Tuesday night. The Marlins have fallen in four consecutive games. 
     Arizona(17-19) got out to 1-0 lead in the second inning. Nick Ahmed smashed a solo home run to left field on a 2-1 pitch for his first homer of the year. 
     The Diamondbacks added five more runs in the bottom of the fifth to go up 6-0. Madison Bumgarner hit a sacrifice fly to left field and Ahmed scored. Pavin Smith followed and lined a base hit into right field to score Josh Rojas. Three batters later, David Peralta came up with the bases loaded and drove in Smith and Carson Kelly with a double to right field. Eduardo Escobar then singled to right field and Peralta crossed the plate. 
     Miami(16-20) put up three runs in the top of the eighth and trailed 6-3. Rojas doubled down the left-field line and Jon Berti reached home. It was the 100th double for Rojas in his MLB career. Jesus Aguilar came up next and crushed a two-run homer to left-center field on a 1-0 count for his eighth home run of the season. 
     It became an eight-run margin for Arizona in the bottom of the eighth. Josh VanMeter smacked a double to deep left and Josh Rojas scored. Kelly connected with a double through the left side which brought in Josh VanMeter. Asdrubal Cabrera ripped a three-run homer to right field on a 1-1 pitch with Smith and Kelly aboard. 

Heat Stop Celtics Again

     The Miami Heat got a 129-121 win over the Boston Celtics at TD Garden on Tuesday night. The Heat clinched a playoff spot with the victory. They assured that they will finish in at least sixth place in the Eastern Conference and won't participate in the NBA Play-In Tournament. 
     Boston(35-34) was tied with the Heat 28-28 after one quarter, however Miami(38-31) controlled the second and were up 62-56 halftime. The Heat held a 93-79 lead after three quarters. 
     Miami was led by Tyler Herro with double-double with 24 points and 11 rebounds. Bam Adebayo and Duncan Robinson both dropped in 22 points each. Kendrick Nunn poured in 18 points while Goran Dragic added 17 points. 
     Kemba Walker powered in a game-high 36 points for the Celtics. Jayson Tatum put together 33 points and eight rebounds. Evan Fournier was also to get 20 points and eight assists. 

Florida Panthers Television Ratings

     The Florida Panthers completed the 2020-21 regular season on Monday. The ratings for Panthers contests on their regional sports network was their highest since the 2003-04 season. 
     It ended being a 0.5 and was an increase of 67% viewership from last season. There was 56 games presented locally. The Panthers were on Fox Sports Florida and it was rebranded Bally Sports Florida on March 31. 
     The Bally Sports Florida broadcast between the Panthers and Tampa Bay Lightning on Monday night was the most watched game this season with a 0.8 rating. The last time Florida participated in a contest with that much local viewership was during the 2016-17 regular season.

Diamondbacks Dodge Marlins

     The Arizona Diamondbacks topped the Miami Marlins 5-2 on Monday night at Chase Field. The Marlins have lost their last three games while the Diamondbacks ended a six-game losing streak. 
     Arizona(16-19) led 1-0 in the bottom of the first. David Peralta grounded into a force out at second base and Pavin Smith crossed the plate. 
     In the third inning, the Diamondbacks added three more runs to go up 4-0. Asdrubal Cabrera drove in Luke Weaver and Smith with a double into right field. Carson Kelly would later score on a passed ball.  
     It became 5-0 for the D-backs in the fifth inning. Christian Walker knocked in Peralta with a double to left field. 
     Miami(15-19) broke the shutout during the eighth inning. Jesus Aguilar smacked a two-run homer to left-center field on a 0-1 pitch with Jon Berti aboard. It was Aguilar's seventh home run of the season. 

Panthers Get Second Place From Lightning

     The Florida Panthers completed their 27th regular season in the National Hockey League with a 4-0 shutout victory over the Tampa Bay Lightning at BB&T Center on Monday night. The Panthers ended up with second place in the Central Division and will host the Lightning in the opening round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs later this week. 
     The Panthers matched their season-high winning streak of six games to finish off the regular season. Chris Driedger collected his third shutout of the season. Keith Yandle played in his 922nd consecutive NHL contest and is 42 games behind Doug Jarvis for the all-time record. 
     Florida(37-14-5) took a 1-0 lead with 4:41 remaining in the first period. Juho Lammikko passed from the red line to Mason Marchment. He dropped a pass at the top of the Tampa Bay(36-17-3) zone and MacKenzie Weegar snapped a shot from the high slot past Andrei Vasilevskiy for his sixth goal of the campaign. Weegar was able to extend his point streak to three games. 
     The Lightning made a major blunder on the power play midway in the second period. Vasilevskiy handled the puck behind his own cage and Lammikko stole it. He made a wraparound forehand shot at the 8:23 mark for his fourth goal this season. It was his first tally since March 3 against Columbus and first multi-point performance in his NHL career. 
     In the third period, the Cats made it a three-goal cushion at 2:27. Carter Verhaeghe carried the puck from the neutral zone into the Lightning. He fired a snap shot from the slot area for his 18th goal of the season. Anthony Duclair and Aleksander Barkov were credited with assists on the play. Barkov now has a four-game point streak.  
     The Panthers made it 4-0 with 5:53 left in the frame. Yandle pushed the puck from the right wing and it went off the stick of Radko Gudas in the top right circle. Alex Wennberg blasted a slap shot from the top of the zone for his fourth goal in the last two contests. Yandle picked up his 600th NHL point to become the 10th defenseman born in the United States to reach the mark. 

Tito Benach Joins CBS Sports HQ

     Tito Benach has joined CBS Sports HQ as a digital assistant. He has worked as a producer, sports anchor and on-air sidekick with Onside Radio since last October. 
     Bemach was first noticed on 560 WQAM-AM as an evening producer and board operator for the Alex Donno Show. He also did reporting duties for that station. Benach moved on to ESPN in December 2018 and became a part of their digital video department.

Brewers Slip By Marlins

     The Milwaukee Brewers edged the Miami Marlins 2-1 in 10 innings at loanDepot park on Sunday. The Marlins and Brewers split the six-game series this season. The Fish will start another 10-game road trip in Arizona on Monday. 
     Milwaukee(19-16) had a 1-0 lead in the top of the fourth. Daniel Vogelbach cracked a solo home run to right field on a 0-1 pitch. 
     Miami(15-18) tied it up in the bottom of the seventh. Lewis Brinson delivered a solo homer to center field on a 1-1 count. 
     The game would go into extra innings. The Brewers reclaimed the lead 2-1 in the top of the 10th. Tyrone Taylor knocked in Pablo Reyes a single into left field. 

Heat Drop Celtics

     The Miami Heat downed the Boston Celtics 130-124 at TD Garden on Sunday. The Heat have been victorious in five of their last six games. Both teams will meet again on Tuesday in Boston. 
     Miami(37-21) rolled out to a 14-8 lead to start the game and were up 36-23 after one quarter. The Heat kept the momentum and led 79-53 at halftime. Boston(35-33) cut the deficit to 105-84 at the end of three quarters. The Celtics began the fourth quarter on a 21-8 run to get it down to a single-digit margin, however they fell short in the end. 
     Jimmy Butler compiled a double-double for the Heat with 26 points, 11 assists and eight rebounds. Duncan Robinson drained in 22 points while Bam Adebayo added 20 points. Trevor Ariza was able to drop in 19 points. 
     Evan Fournier scored a game-high 30 points for the C's. Jayson Tatum poured in 29 points, Kemba Walker had 18 points and Marcus Smart placed in 16 points. 

Inter Miami CF Ties Atlanta United FC

     Inter Miami CF tied Atlanta United FC 1-1 at DRV PNK Stadium in Fort Lauderdale on Sunday. In five MLS meetings, Inter Miami CF has never lost to Atlanta United FC. 
     In the first half, Atlanta United FC scored during the ninth minute of play. Josef Martinez was at the top of the box and rifled a 17-yard shot with his left foot.  
     Inter Miami CF tied the contest 1-1 in the 77th minute. Lewis Morgan dribbled the ball down the right side into the penalty area and buried a left-footed shot from 12 yards out. It was Morgan's third career goal against Atlanta United FC.

Wennberg Hat Trick And Panthers Beat Lightning

     Alex Wennberg compiled a hat trick as the Florida Panthers toppled the Tampa Bay Lightning 5-1 at BB&T Center on Saturday night. It is the first of two games between both teams to end the regular season. The Panthers, who have won five straight games, jumped to second place in the Central Division. 
     Both clubs will meet in the best-of-seven first-round series in the Stanley Cup Playoffs next week. It is the first time that the Sunshine State rivals will face each other in the postseason since the Panthers joined the National Hockey League 28 years ago.
     Florida(36-14-5) got out to 1-0 lead with 8:16 left in the first period. Gustav Forsling had the puck in the neutral zone and angled a pass to his right. Alex Wennberg carried it into the Lightning zone and blasted a slap shot from the top right circle for his 14th goal of the year. MacKenzie Weegar was credited with a secondary assist on the play while Forsling expanded his point streak to three games. 
     In the second period, the Panthers made it 2-0 on a power-play goal at the 3:07 mark. Jonathan Huberdeau fed a pass from above the left circle to Aleksander Barkov in the slot area. He moved it to Sam Bennett in the low left circle and he beat Andrei Vasilevskiy with a snap shot for his 10th of the season. 
     Tampa Bay(36-15-3) closed it to 2-1 at 4:52. Barclay Goodrow sent the puck from the left wing to Yanni Gourde on the end wall. He centered it and Luke Schenn scored on a wrist shot from the low slot by Sergei Bobrovsky. Goodrow and Gourde extended their point streak to three games each. 
     The Cats reclaimed a two-goal margin with 7:06 left in the second. Frank Vatrano cycled the puck from the left corner to behind the Lightning cage. Wennberg put a pass from the end wall that went off a defender, popped high in the air and landed inside the the Tampa Bay net for his second tally of the contest.   
     Florida increased their lead to 4-1 with 5:07 to go in the frame. Bennett sent a cross-ice pass from the left circle and Huberdeau flicked a soft backhand shot from the low slot for his 20th goal this season. Huberdeau reached the 20-goal for the fourth consecutive season and fifth time in his NHL career. 
     The Panthers made it 5-2 with 6:22 remaining in the third period. Wennberg released a snap shot from the high slot for his third goal of the game. It was the second career hat trick for Wennberg. He had three goals against the Columbus Blue Jackets on April 3. 

Brewers Slow Down Marlins

     The Milwaukee Brewers stopped the Miami Marlins 6-2 on Saturday night at loanDepot park. The Marlins had their four-game winning streak snapped.  
     Miami(15-17) was able to get some scoring in the first inning for the fifth consecutive contest. Miguel Rojas belted a leadoff home run to center field on the first pitch. It was his second homer of the 2021 campaign. 
     Milwaukee(18-16) took the lead during the top of the third. Tyrone Taylor singled into right field for Kolten Wong to score. Two batters later, Luis Urias walked with the bases loaded and Lorenzo Cain scored. 
     It became 3-1 for the Brewers in the fourth inning. Adrian Houser connected with a solo home run on a 1-0 count to right-center field.
     In the fifth inning, Milwaukee extended their lead to a four-run gap. Avisail Garcia powered a two-run homer to left-center field on a 2-1 pitch. 
     The Marlins cut it to 5-2 in the bottom of the sixth. Adam Duvall drove in Corey Dickerson with a base hit into left field. 
     The Brewers scored again in the top of the eighth inning. Jacob Nottingham grounded into a double play and Manny Pina crossed the plate for a 6-2 lead.

Heat Trip Up Timberwolves

     The Miami Heat defeated the Minnesota Timberwolves 121-112 on Friday night at American Airlines Arena. The Heat moved up to sixth place in the Eastern Conference with the victory. They next play consecutive road games against the Boston Celtics. 
     Minnesota(20-47) had a 32-28 lead after the first quarter. Miami(36-31) came back and took a 59-54 lead by halftime. The Heat expanded their lead to 89-78 at the end of three quarters. 
     Tyler Herro scored a club-high 27 points for Miami. Jimmy Butler put together 25 points along with eight rebounds. Goran Dragic nailed down 23 points while Bam Adebayo added 15 points. 
     Karl-Anthony Towns dropped in 27 points and Anthony Edwards had 25 points for the Timberwolves. Ricky Rubio fell short of a double-double with 16 points and nine assists. 

Marlins Hammer Brewers

     The Miami Marlins routed the Milwaukee Brewers 6-1 at loanDepot park on Friday night. The Marlins have been victorious in the first four contests of their homestand. 
     Miami(15-16) reached the scoreboard during the first inning for the fourth consecutive game. Adam Duvall drove in Miguel Rojas with an infield single on the left side. 
     The Marlins chalked up four more runs in the bottom of the third to go up 5-0. Isan Diaz crushed a grand-slam homer to center field on the first pitch. Rojas, Garrett Cooper and Duvall scored in front of him on the play. It was the seventh career home run for Diaz. 
    Milwaukee(17-16) made it 5-1 in the top of the fourth. Pablo Reyes singled into left field for Luis Urias to score. 
     The Fish got it to a five-run margin in the bottom of the frame. Jesus Aguilar knocked in Rojas on a double into left field. 

Panthers Versus Lightning In Playoffs

     The Florida Panthers and Tampa Bay Lightning will finally face each other in the Stanley Cup Playoffs after 27 years. The Carolina Hurricanes clinched the Central Division when the Lightning lost at home against the Dallas Stars on Friday night. 
     The Panthers and Lightning will play each other in their final two contests of the 2020-21 regular season in Sunrise on Saturday and Monday. The team that ends up in second place in the Central Division will have home-ice advantage in the first round of the NHL postseason.

Jason McCourty To Sign With Dolphins

     The Miami Dolphins are about to sign defensive back Jason McCourty. It is expected to be a one-year contract. 
     McCourty has been in the National Football League for 12 years. He spent the last three seasons with the New England Patriots and won a Super Bowl title in 2018. 

Marlins Sweep Diamondbacks

     The Miami Marlins got by the Arizona Diamondbacks 3-1 at loanDepot park on Thursday night. The Marlins were able to sweep the three-game series against the Diamondbacks. 
     Miami(14-16) scored for the third straight game during the bottom of the first. Miguel Rojas connected with a slo home run to left field on a 2-1 pitch for his first home run of the season. 
     Arizona(15-16) responded in the top of the second to tie it up 1-1. Pavin Smith doubled into center field for Daulton Varsho to score. 
     The Marlins reclaimed the lead 2-1 in the seventh inning. Adam Duvall smacked a solo home run to left-center field on a 1-0 count. It was his sixth homer of the 2021 campaign. Chad Wallach later knocked in Brian Anderson with a sacrifice fly to right field. 

Dolphins Ink Jibri Blount

     The Miami Dolphins have signed tight end Jibri Blount. He is the son of former Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback Mel Blount. 
     Blount never played a down in college football. He was involved in college basketball with Cleveland State and North Carolina Central. 

Dolphins Cut Bobby McCain

     The Miami Dolphins have released safety Bobby McCain. He has been with the Dolphins since the 2015 NFL season. 
     McCain participated in 87 games over six seasons with the Fins. He compiled seven interceptions and 254 total tackles during that time.

Marlins Pound Diamondbacks

     The Miami Marlins shut out the Arizona Diamondbacks 8-0 on Wednesday night at loanDepot park. It was the second contest of a three-game set between both clubs. 
     Miami(14-16) got two runs in the first inning. Brian Anderson singled into center field for Miguel Rojas to score. Isan Diaz followed with a base hit to center which brought in Corey Dickerson.   
     Arizona(15-15) surrendered four more runs in the bottom of the second and trailed 6-0. Rojas tripled to deep right field and Jose Devers scored. Three batters later, Adam Duvall hammered a three-run homer to left field on a 2-2 pitch with Rojas and Dickerson aboard. 
     The Fish compiled two more runs in the seventh inning for an eight-run margin. Magneuris Sierra scored on a double by Rojas to left. Duvall later drove in Rojas with a single into left field.

Mavericks Walk By Heat

     The Miami Heat fell to the Dallas Mavericks 127-113 at American Airlines Arena on Tuesday night. The Heat had their three-game winning streak snapped. 
     Miami(35-31) outscored the Mavs 39-30 in the first quarter, however Dallas(37-28) rolled on back and led 63-54 at halftime. The Mavericks extended their lead and were up 98-77 after three quarters. 
     Both Duncan Robinson and Goran Dragic had a team-high 19 points for the Heat. Trevor Ariza knocked down 18 points and Kendrick Nunn poured in 14 points. Bam Adebayo put together 11 points and 11 assists for a double-double. 
     Tim Hardaway Jr. had a game-high 36 points for Dallas. Luka Doncic compiled 23 points and 12 rebounds for a double-double. Former Heat player Josh Richardson was able to score 17 points. 

Marlins Outlast Diamondbacks

     The Miami Marlins knocked off the Arizona Diamondbacks 9-3 on Tuesday night at loanDepot park. It was the Marlins first game in Miami(12-16) since their 10-game road trip. 
     The Marlins piled on three runs in the first inning. Brian Anderson smashed a three-run homer to right field on a 3-1 pitch. Corey Dickerson and Adam Duvall scored in front of him on the play. 
     Arizona(15-14) got one run in the top of the fifth. Josh Rojas cracked a solo home run to left field on a 1-0 count. 
     The Diamondbacks cut it to 3-2 in the sixth inning. Christian Walker scored on a fielder's choice by David Peralta when Isan Diaz made a throwing error. 
     It became a 3-3 ballgame in the top of the eighth. Eduardo Escobar drove in Tim Locastro on a single into left field. 
     The Marlins regained the lead in the bottom of the frame. Jesus Aguilar looped a base hit to shallow right-center to score Miguel Rojas and they led 4-3. Dickerson came up next and hit an infield single to first. Stephen Vogt committed a throwing error to third base for Aguilar to cross the plate. 
     Four batters later, Lewis Brinson connected with a three-run homer to right-center field on a 3-1 pitch with Dickerson and Anderson aboard. Rojas later knocked in Sandy Leon with a single to left field and capped the six-run inning for them. 

Neil Walker Enters Radio

     Former Miami Marlins infielder Neil Walker has entered the broadcasting field. He will be a weekly contributor for the morning show on KDKA-FM in Pittsburgh. 
     Walker had a 12-year career in Major League Baseball. He played with the Marlins during the 2019 season and compiled eight home runs along with 38 runs batted in. Walker retired from the majors last month.

Panthers Power By Stars

     The Florida Panthers outscored the Dallas Stars 5-4 in overtime on Monday night at BB&T Center. It was the Panthers first home game since they clinched their second consecutive postseason berth and seventh trip in franchise history to the Stanley Cup Playoffs. 
     Florida(35-14-5) quickly got on the scoreboard at 1:53 of the first period. Keith Yandle made a right outlet pass from his own zone. Owen Tippett carried the puck into the Stars zone to the top right circle. He angled a pass to the inner left circle and Jonathan Huberdeau switched to a backhand shot in the low slot past Anton Khudobin for his 19th goal of the season. Huberdeau has three goals in the last four games. 
     It became 2-0 for the Panthers at the 2:42 mark. Brandon Montour ripped a slap shot from the right point which was stopped. Nikita Gusev put in a forehand shot from close range for his fourth goal of the campaign. Gusev was able to score in his second straight contest. 
     Dallas(21-17-14) cut the deficit to 2-1 with 7:56 left in the first on a power-play goal. Jason Robertson pushed the puck forward from the left point to Roope Hintz on the left wing. Hintz placed a pass to Joe Pavelski on the left side of the crease and he put in a snap shot by Spencer Knight for his 22nd goal this season. 
     The Cats recaptured a two-goal lead with 5:47 to go in the frame. Gregori Denisenko made pass in the neutral zone and Tippett dropped a pass inside the Dallas blue line. MacKenzie Weegar skated to the high slot and snapped a shot for his fifth goal of the year. Denisenko extended his point streak up to three games. 
      The Stars were given a gift of a goal with 2:44 remaining and they trailed 3-2. Weegar attempted to clear the puck around the cage from the goal and it slid into the Panthers net. Robertson was credited for the goal because he last touched the puck in the left corner. 
     In the second period, the Panthers expanded their lead to 4-2 just 45 seconds in. Aleksander Barkov touched the puck and Denisenko connected a pass from the left corner. Gustav Forsling blasted a one-time slap shot from above the right circle. Khudobin was replaced in net for Dallas by Jake Oettinger.
     Dallas scored twice in an 11-second span early in the third period to tie the game 4-4. Joel Kiviranta  scored on a shot from the slot area at the 3:55 mark of the third period. Tyler Seguin, who was playing in his first contest this season, scored his first goal from the crease area at 4:06.
     In overtime, Florida won the game on a power-play goal with 2:10 left. Weegar moved the puck from the left circle. Yandle angled a pass from the high slot to his right and Barkov one-timed a slap shot from the right circle by Oettinger for his 26th goal this season.

Heat Handle Hornets

     The Miami Heat got a 121-111 victory over the Charlotte Hornets at Spectrum Center on Sunday night. The Heat have won three straight contests and four of their last five games. 
     Miami(35-30) had a 35-32 advantage after one quarter and led 65-58 at halftime. Charlotte(31-33) trailed by even more 100-80 at the end of three quarters. 
     Bam Adebayo compiled a double-double of 20 points and 10 assists for Miami. Kendrick Nunn poured in 19 points and Goran Dragic added 18 points. Jimmy Butler put together 18 points, eight assists and eight rebounds. 
     The Hornets were led by P,J. Washington with a game-high 21 points. Miles Bridges dropped in 15 points. LaMelo Ball and Terry Rozier both scored 14 points each. 

Nationals Take Care Of Marlins

     The Washington Nationals handled the Miami Marlins 3-1 at Nationals Park on Sunday. It concluded a 10-game road swing for the Marlins in which they were swept by the Nationals. 
     Washington(12-12) got out to a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the third. Ryan Zimmerman hammered a three-run homer to center field on a 0-2 pitch with Josh Harrison and former Park Vista High School grad Trea Turner aboard. It was Zimmerman's 39th career home run against the Marlins. 
     Miami(11-16) broke the shutout in the ninth inning. Isan Diaz hit a leadoff home run to left-center field on a 0-1 count. 

Inter Miami CF Tie Nashville SC

     Inter Miami CF tied Nashville SC 0-0 at Nissan Stadium on Sunday. Nashville SC eliminated Inter Miami CF 3-0 in the 2020 MLS Cup play-in game. 
     Now Inter Miami CF has a 1-1-1 record during the 2021 campaign. Nashville SC have tied all three games they have competed in this season.

American Heritage Patriots In NFL Draft

     Six former American Heritage Patriots were selected in the 2021 NFL Draft over the last three days. Many of them had won multiple FHSAA Class 5A state championships while in Plantation. 
     Cornerback Patrick Surtain II was taken by the Denver Broncos in the first round. Cornerback Tyson Campbell was chosen in the second round by the Jacksonville Jaguars and wide receiver Anthony Schwartz was drafted by the Cleveland Browns in the third round. 
     Cornerback Marco Wilson went to the Arizona Cardinals in the fourth round. Defensive lineman Tedarrell Slaton got selected by the Green Bay Packers in the fifth round. The Chicago Bears took running back Khalil Herbert in the sixth round. 

Panthers Beat Blackhawks

     The Florida Panthers defeated the Chicago Blackhawks 5-3 at United Center on Saturday night. It was the final road game for the Panthers during the 2020-21 regular season. 
     Florida(34-14-5) took a 1-0 lead at the 7:54 mark of the first period. Anthony Duclair got the tally on assists from Sam Bennett and Gustav Forsling. 

Heat Breeze By Cavaliers

     The Miami Heat overcame the Cleveland Cavaliers 124-107 on Saturday night at Rocket Mortage FieldHouse. The Heat have won two straight games and remain seventh in Eastern Conference. 
     Cleveland(21-43) leaped out to a 36-29 lead at the end of one quarter. Miami(34-30) recovered and moved ahead 67-60 by halftime. The Heat extended their lead to 99-86 at the end of the third quarter. 
     Kendrick Nunn dropped in 22 points for Miami while Duncan Robinson added 20 points. Bam Adebayo compiled a double-double of 13 points and 10 rebounds. Trevor Ariza contributed 18 points and Jimmy Butler scored 15 points. 
     Kevin Love led the Cavs with 25 points and Collin Sexton poured in 25 points. Dean Wade came off the bench with 18 points. 

Dolphins Complete NFL Draft

     The Miami Dolphins finished up the 2021 NFL Draft on Saturday in Cleveland. The Dolphins did not have many selections from the fourth round to the seventh round on the third day of the draft. 
     The Dolphins only had two picks in the final round. The club selected Massachusetts offensive lineman Larnel Coleman and Cincinnati running back Gerrid Doaks. 

Nationals Squash Marlins

     The Washington Nationals pounded the Miami Marlins 7-2 on Saturday at Nationals Park. The Marlins play the final contest of their 10-game road trip on Sunday. 
     Miami(11-15) found themselves in a hole throughout the whole game. Washington(11-12) scored seven unanswered runs and were never challenged.
