Manchester United eased by Real Madrid 2-1 in the International Champions Cup at Hard Rock Stadium on Tuesday night. It was the second time that an ICC game was played in South Florida in the past four days.

Cameron Maybin Traded By Marlins
Outfielder Cameron Maybin was traded by the Miami Marlins to the Seattle Mariners for minor league infielder Bryson Brigham. It ended the second stint for Maybin with the Marlins franchise.
Maybin played 99 games in 2018 for the Fish as he compiled three home runs and 30 runs batted in. His first stint with the Florida Marlins went from 2008 until 2010.

Marlins Trade Brad Ziegler
The Miami Marlins have traded relief pitcher Brad Ziegler to the Arizona Diamondbacks for minor league pitcher Tommy Eveld. It is a return for Ziegler to Arizona where he played from 2011 to 2016.
Ziegler has played the last two seasons with the Marlins. He has pitched in 53 games in 2018 and has a 1-5 record.

Braves Defeat Marlins
The Atlanta Braves got by the Miami Marlins 5-3 at SunTrust Park on Monday night. It was the first time that the Marlins played a game outside the state of Florida since July 8.
In the opening inning, Miami(46-62) pulled out to a 2-0 lead. Brian Anderson smashed a two-run homer to center field on a 2-1 pitch. Derek Dietrich was able to score in front of him.
Atlanta(56-47) tied the contest in the bottom of the second. Tyler Flowers scored on a sacrifice fly by Ender Inciarte to left. Julio Tehran came up a nd singled to center field and brought home Johan Camargo.

Andy Slater Gone From WINZ
Andy Slater is no longer working at Miami Sports 940 WINZ-AM. He hosted a two-hour, mid-afternoon show on the station from January 2014 until last week.
Slater, a Franklin Pierce University grad, was a Florida Marlins visiting clubhouse attendant and worked in the Oakland Raiders organization prior to his professional broadcasting career. He began at 640 Sports WMEN-AM as a weekend co-host when the station flipped to a sports talk format in April 2008.
He was elevated to the afternoon co-host position alongside Larry Milian in late 2009. Slater moved to the evening shift in January 2010 when Ed Kaplan was hired. He was promoted to the midday position in April 2011 when the New York Yankees Radio Network aired.
Hank Goldberg had a Saturday midday show during the football season from 2011 to 2013 and it was co-hosted by him. Slater had his midday program shortened to two hours in 2013 and was shifted to the early afternoon slot when Dan Sileo arrived for middays in August 2013. Trevor Hoffman Enters Baseball Hall Of Fame
Former Florida Marlins pitcher Trevor Hoffman was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame on Sunday in Cooperstown, New York. Chipper Jones, Vladimir Guerrero and Jim Thome also entered with him.
He became the fifth baseball hall of famer from the Marlins franchise. Hoffman joined Andre Dawson, Mike Piazza, Pudge Rodriguez and Tim Raines.
Hoffman was selected in the expansion draft from the Cincinnati Reds in December 1992. He played just a couple of months with Marlins in 1993. He was part of a five-player trade with the San Diego Padres on June 24, 1993 as Florida acquired Gary Sheffield.
He played the next 15 years with the Padres and helped them to a National League title in 1998. Hoffman participated with the Milwaukee Brewers in his final two seasons and finished second all-time in Major League Baseball history with 601 career saves.

It took ten innings for the Miami Marlins to get past the Washington Nationals at Marlins Park on Saturday night. The Fish had been outscored 19-4 in their previous two games.
In the fourth inning, Miami(45-61) garnered one run. Yadiel Rivera hit a sacrifice fly into right field for J.T. Realmuto to score.
Washington(52-52) tied the contest up in the ninth inning. Daniel Murphy knocked in Bryce Harper with a single through the right side with one out.
The Marlins scored the winning run in the bottom of the tenth. Realmuto lined a base hit to right field which brought in Magneuris Sierra.

Manchester City Overcomes Bayern Munich
Manchester City came back from two goals down to defeat Bayern Munich 3-2 at Hard Rock Stadium on Saturday night. It was the first game of the International Champions Cup to be held in South Florida. Manchester United will take on Real Madrid on July 30.

Dontrelle Willis Working Angels Broadcasts
Former Florida Marlins pitcher Dontrelle Willis is filling in this weekend as a television game analyst for Los Angeles Angels games on Fox Sports West. He has been seen on Fox Sports 1 as a baseball studio analyst on MLB Whiparound.
Willis began his major league career with the Marlins in 2003 and helped the club win their second World Series championship along with being given the National League Rookie of the Year Award. He played his first five seasons with the Marlins and later was in the majors with the Detroit Tigers, Arizona Diamondbacks and Cincinnati Reds.

Joe Girvan Announcing High School Football
Former West Palm Beach sportscaster Joe Girvan has been named the radio football play-by-play announcer of Fort Myers High School for the upcoming 2018 regular season. The contests will be heard on WFSX-AM and WFSX-FM.
Girvan came to South Florida from Gainesville where he was a sports host on WRUF-FM and a sportscaster on Gainesville Television Network. He joined ESPN Radio 760 WEFL-AM as a sportscaster and WPTV-TV as a weekend sports anchor. Girvan left for WBBH-TV in Fort Myers to become a sports anchor.

Matthew DeFranks Leaves Panthers Beat
Matthew DeFranks recently left his position as the Florida Panthers beat writer for the South Florida Sun-Sentinel. He is joining the Dallas Morning News as their new Dallas Stars beat reporter in August.
DeFranks joined the South Florida Sun-Sentinel in 2016 to cover Florida Atlantic University athletics. He was promoted to the Florida Panthers post in September 2017 and became the sixth person to hold that position at that newspaper.

Wells Dusenbury New Marlins Writer
Wells Dusenbury has been named the new Miami Marlins beat reporter for the South Florida Sun-Sentinel. He replaces Tim Healey who left the newspaper in late February to become the New York Mets beat writer at Newsday.

Panthers Resign MacKenzie Weegar
The Florida Panthers have resigned defenseman MacKenzie Weegar to a one-year contract. He was a restricted free agent and the final member of the current Panthers NHL roster who agreed to a deal.
Weegar played 60 games last season with the Cats as he compiled two goals, six assists and 108 hits. He was selected by Florida during the 2013 NHL Draft in the seventh round.

Ron Burke Joins WPBF-TV
Longtime Philadelphia television sports anchor Ron Burke has joined WPBF-TV Channel 25 in West Palm Beach as a weekend morning news anchor and weekday news reporter. The station eliminated their sports department, which included primary sports anchor Jim Abath, from news programming at the beginning of the decade.
Burke first started as a Philadelphia sportscaster at WCAU-TV in 1988. He landed at CSN Sportsnet Philadelphia when it was founded in 1997 as a sports anchor and stayed there until January 2017. Burke moved on to a sportscasting role at WTXF-TV in March 2017.

Palm Beach High School Football Media Day
Palm Beach County high school football media day was held at Brother Jimmy's BBQ in West Palm Beach on Tuesday. There was a live broadcast on 640 The Hurricane WMEN-AM hosted by Chris Kokell, Kevin Rolston and WPEC-TV Channel 12 sports anchor John Everson.
Many of the top high school players attended the event. They included Wellington wide receiver Marc-Antony Richards, Dwyer wide receiver Antavious Lane. Boca Raton quarterback Michael Pratt and Palm Beach Gardens quarterback David Studstill.
Plenty of local schools were represented by their head coaches along with some of their top talent. Schools that showed up included Boca Raton, Olympic Heights, Spanish River, Saint Andrew's, Atlantic, Village Academy, Lake Worth, John I. Miami Sports Radio 560 WQAM-AM has promoted Manny Chang from producer on the Miami Hurricanes Radio Network to executive producer of the Miami Dolphins Radio Network.

Tony Sparano Dead
Former Miami Dolphins head coach Tony Sparano passed away on Sunday at the age of 56. He was the offensive line coach for the Minnesota Vikings since the 2016 season.
Sparano became the head coach for the Miami Dolphins in 2008. He helped the club win the 2008 AFC East Division title with an 11-5 record. It was the only in the last 15 seasons where the New England Patriots did not win the division crown. Sparano had a 29-32 career record and was let go by the Fins during the 2011 regular season.

Rays Walk Off Marlins
The Tampa Bay Rays won the game with a grand-slam home run on their final at-bat as they overcame the Miami Marlins 6-4 at Tropicana Field on Sunday. The Marlins were one out away from sweeping the Rays.

Marlins Put Down Rays
The Miami Marlins held off the Tampa Bay Rays 6-5 at Tropicana Field on Friday night. It was the first contest for both clubs since the All-Star Game.

Jonathan Vilma Adds ABC Duties
Former University of Miami Hurricanes linebacker Jonathan Vilma will become the new college football studio analyst on ABC Sports. He has been a college football studio analyst on ESPN for the last two years.

Chris Kokell WMEN Weekend Host

Jorge Sedano ESPN Sideline Reporter
Former South Florida sportscaster Jorge Sedano appeared this week as an ESPN sideline reporter for NBA Summer League Basketball in Las Vegas. He currently is a studio co-host of Nacion ESPN on ESPN2 and a morning co-host on KSPN-AM in Los Angeles.
Sedano was a sports talk radio host in Miami for 13 years. He had a stint with 1700 The Fan WAFN-AM from 1999 until December 2000 where he co-hosted a show during the final six months. Fox Sports Radio 940 WRFX-AM flipped to a sports format in 2002 and he hosted a sports show there until July 2004 when Clear Channel Communications flipped it back to a news/talk format. He added duties as a morning sports anchor at Newsradio 610 WIOD-AM, studio host of the Miami Heat Radio Network and an overnight host on Fox Sports Radio.
He left all three positions in July 2007 and joined Sports Talk 790 The Ticket in August 2007. Sedano was first the midday host there and then was elevated to morning show host from April 2009 to April 2012.

He moved to Los Angeles and has been the morning co-host on KSPN-AM for the past two years.
Sedano was a sports talk radio host in Miami for 13 years. He had a stint with 1700 The Fan WAFN-AM from 1999 until December 2000 where he co-hosted a show during the final six months. Fox Sports Radio 940 WRFX-AM flipped to a sports format in 2002 and he hosted a sports show there until July 2004 when Clear Channel Communications flipped it back to a news/talk format. He added duties as a morning sports anchor at Newsradio 610 WIOD-AM, studio host of the Miami Heat Radio Network and an overnight host on Fox Sports Radio.

Palm Beach Post Stops Miami Heat Coverage
The Palm Beach Post will no longer cover the Miami Heat on a regular basis. Anthony Chiang has been shifted to cover University of Miami Hurricanes athletics while Tom D'Angelo will contribute reports on the Miami Dolphins, Miami Hurricanes and other South Florida sporting events.

Marlins Rally By Phillies
The Miami Marlins beat the Philadelphia Phillies 10-5 on Sunday at Marlins Park. It was the final game for both clubs prior to the All-Star Game break.

Marlins Hold Down Phillies
The Miami Marlins shut out the Philadelphia Phillies 2-0 on Saturday at Marlins Park. It was a reverse results from Friday when the Philadelphia(53-41) blanked the Fish 2-0.

West Palm Beach Ratings June 2018
The West Palm Beach sports radio market became more tighter between the top two competitors in the region. ESPN West Palm 106.3 WUUB-FM had their second month with a revised lineup that had two hours of Josh Cohen and one hour of Evan Cohen during afternoon drive.
640 The Hurricane showed improvement for the third straight period as they went from a 0.3 to a 0.5. Their audience has improved by five times since the month of April when they had a 0.1 rating. A tremendous record for the New York Yankees and more buzz of Kevin's Other Show saw a positive bump in the ratings.
1230 The Zone WBZT-AM moved up to a 0.1 after nine consecutive months with a 0.0. They showed some traction and rose with the number of Miami Marlins on the road outside the eastern time zone and the Jeff DeForest morning show.

Wayne Ellington Stays With Heat
The Miami Heat have resigned guard Wayne Ellington to a new contract. The deal is for one year worth $6.3 million.
Ellington, who helped the University of North Carolina Tar Heels win a national championship in 2009, has played the last two seasons with the Heat. He compiled 11.2 points along with 2.8 rebounds per game, .392 three-point percentage and a franchise record 227 three-point shots made last season in 77 games.

Marlins Outlast Brewers
The Miami Marlins stopped the Milwaukee Brewers 5-4 in 12 innings on Wednesday night at Marlins Park. It was the fourth time in the last ten games that the Marlins had to play an extra-inning game.
The Brewers lobbied in front during the first. Jesus Aguilar doubled in Eric Thames with a shot into deep left-center field.

Akeem Dent And Josh Sanguinetti On Magazine Cover
The 2018 FNF Florida Friday Night Football magazine was released and several local high school players appeared on the front cover. It included Palm Beach Central defensive back Akeem Dent and University School wide receiver Josh Sanguinetti.
Dent played his freshman and sophomore years with the Pahokee Blue Devils as he was installed on both their offensive and defensive formations. The school won the FHSAA Class 1A state championship in 2016 and was stripped of that title. He transferred to Palm Beach Central in 2017 and helped the Broncos to a District 9 title in Class 8A. After a regional quarterfinal win over the Seminole Ridge Hawks, they were upset at home by the Western Wildcats in a regional semifinal.

Brewers Bust Marlins
The Milwaukee Brewers pulled away from the Miami Marlins 8-4 at Marlins Park on Tuesday night. The Fish have lost six of their last 10 games.
Both clubs showed production in the first two innings. Milwaukee(55-37) got ahead in the top of the first when Travis Shaw grounded into a fielder's choice and Eric Thames scored.
Miami(38-56) put up a pair of runs in the bottom of the frame. Garrett Cooper drove in Derek Dietrich with a base hit into center field. J.T. Riddle followed with a single to center which brought in Starlin Castro.

Marlins Slip By Brewers
Christian Yelich made his return to Miami as the Marlins topped the Milwaukee Brewers 4-3 in 10 innings at Marlins Park on Monday night. The Marlins will remain in the state of Florida for the next three weeks and won't play out of state until July 30.

The Miami Marlins routed the Washington Nationals 10-2 at Nationals Park on Sunday. The Fish prevented a four-game weekend sweep to the Nats.
Miami(37-55) broke out to a 3-0 lead in the second inning. Cameron Maybin hit a single to center field for Martin Prado to score. J.T. Realmuto followed with a two-run base hit into right that scored J.T. Riddle and Maybin.
Washington(45-44) was able to close the gap. A Daniel Murphy hit to right field brought in Mark Reynolds in the second. Murphy placed a sacrifice fly to left with Juan Soto in the bottom of the third.
The Marlins would score seven unanswered runs down the stretch and pulled away. It included a Riddle single to right and Realmuto scored during the fourth.

The Washington Nationals won the contest in their final at-bat with a 3-2 victory over the Miami Marlins at Nationals Park on Friday night. The Marlins have lost four of their last six games.

The Florida Panthers have resigned defenseman Alex Petrovic to a one-year contract. The deal is worth $1.85 million.

Marlins Blow Nine-Run Lead To Nationals
The Miami Marlins blew a nine-run lead and lost to the Washington Nationals 14-12 at Nationals Park on Thursday night. It was the start of a four-game series between both clubs. It is the only time that the Marlins will play outside the state of Florida during a stretch of 29 games.
Miami(36-53) took a 1-0 lead in the first inning. They compiled six runs during the top of the second. It was capped by a Martin Prado home run off the left-field foul pole on a 0-1 pitch.

Rays Roll By Marlins
The Miami Marlins fell to the Tampa Bay Rays 9-6 in 16 innings on Tuesday night at Marlins Park. The final game of the Citrus Series is on Wednesday.
Tampa Bay(43-42) bolstered four runs in the first two innings. Wilson Ramos nailed a two-run homer in the first inning to center field on the first pitch for his 12th home run of the year.
In the second, the Rays made it a three-run margin as Adeiny Hechavarria knocked in Daniel Robertston with a double into left field. Mallex Smith followed with a base hit to shallow center to score Hechavarria.
Miami(35-52) cut into the deficit during the bottom of the second. Trevor Richards came to the plate with the bases loaded and singled up the middle for Justin Bour and J.T. Riddle to score.

Two batters later, Vidal Nuno placed a single into right and Bauers crossed the plate to make it 7-4. Robertson found the gap in right-center field for a double which scored Ramos and pinch-runner Nathan Eovaldi.
The Fish went down with a fight in the bottom of the frame as they loaded the bases with none out. Bryan Holaday skyed a sacrifice fly to the wall in left-center field for Lewis Brinson to score. Realmuto grounded into a fielder's choice to third which got Dietrich home.

Marlins Get By Rays
The Miami Marlins edged the Tampa Bay Rays 3-2 at Marlins Park in 10 innings on Monday night. The Fish have prevailed in three of their last four games.
In the second inning, Miami(35-51) took the lead. Miguel Rojas doubled to deep left field for Starlin Castro to score.
Tampa Bay(42-42) was able to tie the contest in the top of the fourth. Former Marlin Adeiny Hechavarria hit a sacrifice fly to right field and Daniel Robertson crossed the plate.
The Marlins pulled ahead during the bottom of the fifth. J.T. Realmuto cracked a solo home run to left-center field on a 1-2 pitch.
The Rays were down to their last out in the ninth inning when they tied the game. C.J. Cron sliced a double into the left-field corner for Jake Bauers to reach home.

Florida Panthers Add To Roster
The Florida Panthers continued and added to their payroll on Monday. They signed right wing Paul Thompson and defenseman Jacob MacDonald to two-year contracts.
Thompson had previously been in the Panthers minor league system with Springfield in 2016-17. He played last season with the Chicago Wolves as he compiled 24 goals and 14 assists in 76 games. Thompson had a stint on the Florida Panthers NHL roster in 2015-16 as he played 21 games with three assists.
MacDonald led all AHL defensemen with 22 goals and 55 points while playing for the Binghamton Devils last season. He played college hockey with the Cornell University Big Red.

LeBron James Signs With Lakers
Former Miami Heat forward LeBron James has signed a four-year, $153 million contract with the Los Angeles Lakers. He previously played four seasons with the Miami Heat as he compiled two NBA champions in 2012 and 2013 along with four Eastern Conference titles between 2011 and 2014.
James just finished his second stint with his native club the Cleveland Cavaliers. He brought Cleveland their first team sports championship in 2016 after a 52-year wait. James also made four consecutive trips to the NBA Finals with the Cavs.

Mets Down Marlins
The New York Mets avoided a three-game sweep with a 5-2 win over the Miami Marlins at Marlins Park on Sunday. The Marlins dropped below the Mets for last place in the National League East.
The Mets scored in the second to go up 1-0. Kevin Plawecki doubled to center field for Todd Frazier to score. Asdrubal Cabrera homered to right field on a 3-1 pitch in the third inning.
New York(33-48) expanded their margin to three runs in the top of the fourth and never looked back. Steven Matz knocked in Frazier with a base hit into center field.

Jared McCann Stays With Panthers
The Florida Panthers inked center Jared McCann to a two-year contract on Sunday. He was acquired by the Cats on May 25, 2016 from the Vancouver Canucks for Erik Gudbranson.
McCann has played the last two seasons with the Panthers. He had nine goals and 19 assists in 68 games during the 2017-18 season.

Panthers Sign Michael Hutchinson
The Florida Panthers began the NHL free agency period by signing goalie Michael Hutchinson to a one-year deal worth $1.3 million. He is expected to be the third goalie on the club behind Roberto Luongo and James Reimer. He replaces Harri Sateri who held that role last season.
Hutchinson has played the last five seasons with the Winnipeg Jets. He played in three games last season with the Jets and compiled a 2-1 record with a 3.26 goals-against-average along with a .907 save percentage. Hutchinson played one season with the Boston Bruins prior to his arrival in Winnipeg and has a 43-39 NHL record.
