Hurricanes Roll By Panthers

Roberto Luongo passed Terry Sawchuk for third all-time in games played with his 972nd NHL game as the Florida Panthers lost to the Carolina Hurricanes 3-1 at PNC Arena on Tuesday night. Lunogo also played his 500th career game as a Florida Panther.
After a scoreless first period, Carolina(5-5-3) took a 1-0 lead at 12:17 of the second. Brock McGinn, younger brother of Panthers left wing Jamie McGinn, scored a goal on assists from Noah Hanifin and Roland McKeown.
Florida(4-8-2) converted on a power-play goal with 5:54 left in the period to tie the game 1-1. Luongo came out of the crease and made a short pass to Vincent Trocheck. He skated through the neutral zone and to the Hurricanes blue line and backhand the puck to Jonathan Huberdeau at the top of the zone. Huberdeau returned a lead pass to Trocheck and he snapped a shot at the top of the crease by Scott Darling for his seventh goal of the season.
The Hurricanes regained the lead at 9:35 of the third period. After Carolina won a face-off in the right circle, Justin Williams fired a slapshot from the blue line which was saved by Luongo. Derek Ryan batted the puck in mid-air from the edge of the crease for the tally. Williams added an empty-net goal with 1:14 left in the third.
