The Dwyer Panthers got by the Plantation Colonels 22-20 at Blum Stadium on Thursday night in a preseason kickoff classic. The contest was halted in the second half due to a serious injury of a Plantation player.
Both schools met each other in the semifinal round of the gold bracket in the Tri-County Championships last season. The Colonels were victorious over Dwyer 41-27.
Dwyer got on the scoreboard first on a 12-yard touchdown catch by wide receiver Elijah Hopkins from quarterback Billy Omahen. It became 14-0 for the Panthers in the first quarter when running back Zanai Scott raced up the middle on a touchdown run from 14 yards away.
