Yankees Hold Off Marlins

     The New York Yankees handled the Miami Marlins 4-2 on Saturday night at loanDepot park. The Yankees will go for the three-game series sweep on Sunday. 
     New York(55-48) sprinted out to a 2-0 lead in the second inning. Rougned Odor singled into right field and Anthony Rizzo crossed the plate. Gary Sanchez came up next with a ground-rule double down the right-field line for former Marlins player Giancarlo Stanton to score. 
     Miami(44-60) scored their only two runs of the contest during the bottom of the fourth and tied it up 2-2. Jorge Alfaro tripled to deep center field and Miguel Rojas raced home. Alfaro would score later on a Domingo German wild pitch.
     It became 3-2 for the Bronx Bombers in the top of the fifth. Marlins pitcher Anthony Bender threw a wild pitch and Rizzo scored. 
     The Yankees got an additional tally in the seventh inning. Rizzo walloped a solo home run to right field on a 2-1 pitch. It was the second straight game that Rizzo homered for his new team since he arrived in a trade on Thursday. Rizzo compiled his 16th homer of the season with that blast. 

Inter Miami CF Ends Long Winless Streak

     Inter Miami CF finally snapped their long seven-game winless streak with a 2-1 victory over CF Montreal at DRV PNK Stadium in Fort Lauderdale on Saturday night. Inter Miami CF had not won a contest since May 16 at Cincinnati. They had been held to two goals in their previous seven prior to this matchup.

Yankees Defeat Marlins

     The New York Yankees got by the Miami Marlins 3-1 at loanDepot park on Friday night. Both clubs made several transactions prior to the trade deadline today. It was the first time that the Yankees played a regular season game in Miami since 2018. 
     New York(54-48) scored first in the sixth inning. Recent addition Anthony Rizzo blasted a solo home run to right-center field on a 1-0 pitch for his 15th homer of the season. He was acquired in a trade from the Chicago Cubs on Thursday. 
     The Yankees increased it to 3-0 in the top of the eighth. Rougned Odor singled up the middle for Aaron Judge and Rizzo to score. 
     Miami(44-59) responded with a run in the bottom of the eighth. Brian Anderson grounded out into a double play, but Jazz Chisholm Jr. reached home on the play. 

Marlins Send John Curtiss To Milwaukee

     The Miami Marlins traded pitcher John Curtiss to the Milwaukee Brewers for catcher Payton Henry on Friday. Curtiss was acquired by the Fish from the Tampa Bay Rays on February 17.
     Curtiss pitched in 35 games for Miami in 2021. He finished with a 3-1 record with 40 strikeouts in 40 innings of work. 

Marlins Trade Adam Duvall To Braves

     The Miami Marlins have traded outfielder Adam Duvall to the Atlanta Braves for catcher Alex Jackson. It will be the second stint with the Braves. He played in Atlanta from 2018 until 2020. 
     Duvall joined the Marlins as a free agent prior to the 2021 season. He compiled 22 home runs, 68 runs batted in, .478 slugging percentage and .755 OPS in 90 games this year with Miami. Duvall had previous stops with the San Francisco Giants, Cincinnati Reds and Atlanta Braves during his eight-year career. 
     Jackson has been in the majors with the Braves for the past three years. He was involved in 10 games with Atlanta in 2021 and had a .068 batting average in 23 at-bats.

Inter Miami CF Game Rescheduled

     A previous game between Inter Miami CF and New York Red Bulls has been rescheduled for October 9 at 6PM. It will be played at Red Bull Arena in Harrison, New Jersey. 
     The contest involving  both clubs was to occur on July 17. It was postponed due to the inclement weather in northern New Jersey. 

Yankees And Marlins Games On WMEN

     Fox Sports 640 South Florida WMEN-AM will carry the New York Yankees Radio Network with John Sterling and Suzyn Waldman in contests between the Yankees and Marlins in Miami this weekend. They will play on Friday night, Saturday night and Sunday afternoon. 
     It is the first time that Yankees games in Miami will air on Fox Sports 640. The Marlins organization had implemented local exclusive radio rights in South Florida on previous occasions. WMEN has been an affiliate of the New York Yankees Radio Network since 2008. 

No NBA Draft Picks For Miami Heat

     The 2021 National Basketball Association Draft will be held tonight. The Miami Heat do not have and selections in the first round and second round. 
     It is very unusual for an NBA club not to have one pick in the NBA Draft. The Miami Heat had traded away their draft picks for current talent on their roster.

Orioles Fly By Marlins

     The Miami Marlins were unable to hole a five-run lead and lost to the Baltimore Orioles 8-7 on Wednesday night at Camden Yards. The loss ended a Marlins three-game win streak. The Marlins will be off on Thursday for the second in four days and then host the New York Yankees this weekend. 
     Miami(44-58) got ahead 2-0 in the first inning. Jesus Aguilar delivered a double off the left-center field wall for Miguel Rojas to score. Two batters later, Brian Anderson drove in Aguilar on a base hit through the right side.  
     The Marlins extended their lead to 5-0 in the top of the second. Isan Diaz singled into right field and Rojas scored. Aguilar followed with a two-run homer to left-center field on a 2-1 pitch for his 18th home run of the season. 
     Baltimore(35-65) mounted a comeback in the bottom of the second. Pedro Severino hammered a three-run homer to center field on a 2-1 count with D.J. Stewart and Ramon Urias aboard. 
     The Orioles tied it up 5-5 in the third inning. Trey Mancini lifted a solo home run to left-center field on a 0-2 pitch for his 19th homer of the year. Urias later knocked in Stewart with a double to center. 
     In the fourth inning, Miami reclaimed the lead 7-5. Brian Anderson was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and Isan Diaz crossed the plate. Lewin Diaz then grounded out to first and Aguilar reached home. 
     The O's evened it up again at 7-7 in the bottom of the eighth. Severino ground out to first for Ryan McKenna to score. Urias eventually scored on a base hit through the right side by Maikel Franco. 
     Baltimore won the contest in the ninth inning. They loaded the bases on a walk, a sacrifice bunt and two intentional walks. McKenna then walked on a full count and Mullins crossed the plate. 

Christopher Gibson Signs With Panthers

     The Florida Panthers have signed goalie Christopher Gibson to a deal. It is a one-year, two-way contract between him and the team. 
     Gibson participated in two games with the Tampa Bay Lightning last season. He posted a 1-1-0 record with a 2.66 goals against average and a .875 save percentage. 

Marlins Deal Yimi Garcia

     The Miami Marlins dealt pitcher Yimi Garcia to the Houston Astros for outfielder Bryan De La Cruz and pitcher Austin Pruitt. It will be the second trade that the Marlins made on Wednesday. 
     De La Cruz recently played for the Astros Triple-A team in Sugar Land. He put up 12 home runs, 50 runs batted in and a .324 batting average in 66 games. Pruitt was involved in two games with the Astros this season. 
     Garcia was with the Marlins for the last two seasons. He had a 3-5 record in 39 games in relief with the Fish in 2021. Garcia had a better season last year with a 3-0 mark and a 0.60 earned run average in 14 relief appearances. 

Panthers Re-Sign Juho Lammikko

     The Florida Panthers have re-signed right wing Juho Lammikko to a deal. The terms of the new contract is for one season. 
     Lammikko had four goals and one assist in 44 games last season. He had six assists in 40 contests with Florida during the 2018-19 campaign. 

Marlins Trade Starling Marte

     The Miami Marlins have traded outfielder Starling Marte to the Oakland A's for pitcher Jesus Luzardo. Marte will be a free agent at the end of the 2021 campaign.  
     Marte joined the Marlins on August 31, 2020 when he was dealt by the Arizona Diamondbacks. He later helped the Marlins reach the postseason for the first time since 2003. He had four home runs with 13 runs batted in during 28 contests with the Fish in 2020. 
     He continued to put up impressive numbers in the 2021 season. Marte has seven homers, 25 runs batted in, 22 stolen bases, .305 batting average and .859 OBS in 63 games. 

Wennberg and Keeper Leave Panthers

     Some of the players on the Florida Panthers roster have left the club. They signed with different teams on the first day of free agency. 
     Center Alexander Wennberg signed a three-year contract with the Seattle Kraken. The total amount of the deal is $13.5 million. Wennberg played just one season with the Panthers and had 17 goals and 12 assists in 59 contests.
     Defenseman Brady Keeper will be going to the Vancouver Canucks. It is a two-year deal worth around $1.5 million. Keeper only participated in one game with Florida during the 2020-21 campaign. 

Giants Release Kelvin Benjamin

     The New York Giants have released tight end Kelvin Benjamin. He signed with that club back on May 17. Benjamin last appeared in the National Football League as a wide receiver in 2018. 
     Benjamin played high school football with the Glades Central Raiders. He went on to win a BCS National Championship with the Florida State Seminoles. Benjamin had stints in the NFL with the Carolina Panthers, Buffalo Bills and Kansas City Chiefs. 

Panthers Ink Maxim Mamin

     Maxim Mamin has signed a one-year deal with the Florida Panthers. The contract for him is worth $975,000. 
     Mamin played recently with CSKA Moscow in the Kontinental Hockey League. He played two seasons with the Florida Panthers prior to that from 2017 to 2019. Mamin compiled three goals and one assist in 33 games with Florida. 

Carter Verhaeghe Re-Signs With Panthers

     Carter Verhaeghe has signed a three-year contract extension with the Florida Panthers through the 2024-25 season. The deal worth $12.5 million. 
     Verhaeghe was acquired by the Panthers from the Tampa Bay Lightning prior to the 2020-21 season. He had 18 goals and 18 assists in 43 games last season with the Cats.

Brandon Montour Remains With Panthers

     Defenseman Brandon Montour will be staying with the Florida Panthers. He has signed a three-year deal that will average $3.5 million per season. 
     Montour was traded by the Buffalo Sabres to the Panthers on April 10. He had two goals and two assists in 12 contests with the Cats. Montour played his first three seasons with the Anaheim Ducks and was dealt to Buffalo in February 2019. 

Marlins Drive By Orioles

     The Miami Marlins began a short two-game road swing and dropped the Baltimore Orioles 7-3 at Camden Yards on Tuesday night. The Marlins have won three straight games. 
     Miami(44-57) rocketed out to a 3-0 lead in the second inning. Sandy Leon belted a three-run homer to right field on a 2-2 pitch with Isan Diaz and Lewis Diaz on base. 
     The Fish made it 4-0 in the top of the fourth. Starling Marte knocked in Leon with a base hit up the middle. 
     Baltimore(34-65) got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the fourth. Austin Hays connected with a solo home run to left-center field on a 0-2 count for his 10th homer of the year. 
     The Marlins responded and expanded their lead to 5-1. Lewin Diaz cracked a solo homer to right-center field on a 2-1 pitch. 
     The Orioles cut it to 5-2 in the bottom of the sixth. Cedric Mullins got his 17th home run of the season as he homered barely over the center-fence wall on a 2-2 count. 
     In the seventh inning, Miami answered back quickly. Brian Anderson blasted a solo home run to left-center field on a 0-1 pitch. 

Keith Yandle Going To Flyers

     Former Florida Panthers defenseman Keith Yandle is expected to join the Philadelphia Flyers. He will sign a one-year deal worth $900,000. Yandle was bought out of the remainder of his contract by the Panthers on July 15. 
     Yandle played five seasons with Florida and never missed one regular season contest. He helped the Panthers reach for postseason in consecutive years for the first time since 1996 and 1997. Yandle compiled 30 goals and 201 assists in 371 games with the Panthers. 
     The Flyers will give Yandle the chance for the upcoming season to become the iron man in the National Hockey League. Yandle has played in 922 consecutive games and is 42 games behind Doug Jarvis for first all-time in NHL history. 

Dolphins Sign Liam Eichenberg

     The Miami Dolphins have signed offensive tackle Liam Eichenberg. The Dolphins selected him in the second round with the 42nd overall pick. 
     The Dolphins have completed signing all of their players taken during the 2021 NFL Draft. Eichenberg played college football with Notre Dame. 

Hunter Long Signs With Miami Dolphins

     The Miami Dolphins have signed tight end Hunter Long. The Dolphins third-selection inked a four-year contract with the club. 
     Long played three seasons with the Boston College Eagles. He had 57 pass receptions for 685 yards and five touchdowns in 2020.

Panthers Trade Anton Stralman

     The Florida Panthers have traded defenseman Anton Stralman, defenseman Vladislav Kolyachonok and a 2024 second-round pick to the Arizona Coyotes. The Cats receive back a seventh-round selection in 2023 from the Coyotes. 
     Stalman played the last two seasons with the Panthers and helped them reach the Stanley Cup Playoffs in consecutive seasons for the first time since 1996 and 1997. He had three goals and six assists in 38 games last season with Florida. Stralman compiled five goals and 14 assists in 69 contests with the Panthers in 2019-20.

Florida Panthers Re-Sign Sam Bennett

     Center Sam Bennett has signed a four-year contract with the Florida Panthers. The deal is worth $17.6 million. 
     Bennett was acquired in a trade from the Calgary Flames during the 2020-21 season on April 12. He compiled six goals and nine assists for 15 points in 10 games with Florida. 
     He had played for seven seasons with the Flames. Bennett had 57 goals and 73 assists in 402 contests with Calgary. 

Panthers Re-Sign Noah Juulsen

     The Florida Panthers have re-signed defenseman Noah Juulsen to a deal. It is a one-year, two-way contract with no details of what the contract amount is. 
     Juulsen was called up from the American Hockey League and played four games with the Florida Panthers last season. He did not have any goals or assists in those contests. 

Lucas Carlsson Stays With Panthers

     The Florida Panthers have re-signed defenseman Lucas Carlsson to a one-year, two-way contract. The deal is worth the $750,000 in the NHL or $150,000 in the AHL. 
     Carlsson was acquired along with Lucas Wallmark from the Chiicago Blackhawks back on April 8 in a five-player deal. He was at Syracuse in the American Hockey League for the remainder of the 2020-21 season. Carlsson has played 18 games with the Blackhawks and has two assists during his NHL career.

Inter Miami CF Ties Philadelphia Union

     Inter Miami CF tied the Philadelphia Union 1-1 at DRV PNK Stadium on Sunday night. The tie snapped a six-game losing streak for Inter Miami CF, however they still have a seven-game winless streak. Inter Miami CF have compiled just two goals in their last seven MLS games. 
     Both teams scored in the second half. Inter Miami CF moved in front 1-0 during the 71st minute. Robbie Robinson dribbled the ball down the left side of the box and placed in a right-footed shot from eight yards away. 
     Philadelphia evened it up 1-1 at the 85th minute. Kacper Przybylko was able to tap the ball in with his right leg from one yard out. 

Marlins Split Padres

     The Miami Marlins beat the San Diego Padres 9-3 at loanDepot park on Sunday. The Marlins and Padres split the four-game weekend series. Both clubs have Monday off as the Marlins go to Baltimore while the Padres return back to the west coast. 
     San Diego(58-54) scored first for the fourth straight game in this series. Pham got to first on a fielding error by first baseman Jesus Aguilar and raced around to third. He would score on a base hit by American Heritage High School grad Eric Hosmer through the right side to give them a 1-0 advantage in the opening frame.
     Another American Heritage High School grad helped Miami(43-57) tie it up 1-1 in the bottom of the third. Deven Marrero sliced a solo homer down the right-field line on a 2-2 count. It was the first home run for Marrero in the majors since September 20, 2017 with the Boston Red Sox. 
     The Padres regained the lead during the top of the fourth inning. Brito Miami Private School grad Manny Machado lined a solo home run over the center-field fence on a 0-1 pitch. It was the 17th homer of the season for Machado. 
     The Marlins answered back in the bottom of the fourth to even it up 2-2. Brian Anderson homered the ball barely over the right-field wall on a 1-2 pitch for his fourth home run of the campaign.
     In the fifth inning, the Fish pulled ahead 4-2. Magneuris Sierra doubled down the left-field line and Marrero reached home. It was Sierra's first run batted in this year. Starling Marte came up next and drove in Sierra on a single through the right side. 
     Miami added five more runs in the bottom of the sixth for a 9-2 lead and a seven-run cushion. Sandy Leon knocked in Adam Duvall and Anderson with a double into the right-field corner. After Marrero singled up the middle, Lewis Brinson powered a three-run homer on a 0-1 count to left field for his third home run of the season. 
     The Friars picked up a meaningless run in the ninth inning. Brian O'Grady got his second home run of the season on a 1-2 pitch to right field. 

Marlins Ink Joe Mack

     The Miami Marlins have signed their first-round selection Joe Mack. He was the 31st overall pick in the 2021 Major League Baseball Draft. 
     He will be given $2.5 million in the deal from the Marlins. Mack last played for Williamsville East High School.

Marlins Overtake Padres

     The Miami Marlins downed the San Diego Padres 3-2 on Saturday night at loanDepot park. The Marlins have been victorious in two of their last eight contests. 
     San Diego(58-43) took a 1-0 lead in the first inning. Fernando Tatis Jr. bashed a solo homer to left-center field on a 0-1 count for his 30th home run of the 2021 season. 
     The Padres led by two runs in the top of the third. Ryan Weathers got his first homer in the majors as he hit a home run on the first pitch over the center-field wall. 
     Miami(42-57) closed it to 2-1 in the bottom of the fifth. Jesus Aguilar reached first on a throwing error by third baseman Manny Machado and Miguel Rojas scored. 
     In the seventh inning, the Marlins overtook the Friars for their only lead of the game. Aguilar knocked in Magneuris Sierra and Rojas with a single into center field. 

Florida Panthers Finish 2021 NHL Draft

     The 2021 NHL Draft from the second round through the seventh round concluded on Saturday. The Florida Panthers had their selections during the process.  
     The Panthers named defenseman Evan Nause with the 56th overall pick during the second round. The next pick for the Cats was in the fourth round and they selected defenseman Vladislav Lukashevich. 
     Florida went with goalie Kirill Gurasimyuk in the fifth round, forward Jakub Kos during the sixth round and defenseman Braden Hache in the final round. 

Browns Sign Anthony Schwartz

     The Cleveland Browns have signed wide receiver Anthony Schwartz to a four-year deal worth $4.86 million. He was taken by them in the third round of the 2021 NFL Draft. 
     The former American Heritage Patriots wide receiver captured three FHSAA Class 5A state championships with the school in 2014, 2016 and 2017. Schwartz moved on to the University of Auburn and played for three seasons with the Tigers. 

Panthers Acquire Sam Reinhart From Sabres

     The Florida Panthers acquired center Sam Reinhart from the Buffalo Sabres for a 2022 first-round draft pick and goalie Devon Levi. The contract status for Reinhart at the present time is restricted free agent. 
     Reinhart was drafted by the Sabres second overall in the 2014 NHL Draft. He has played seven seasons in Buffalo and compiled 134 goals and 161 assists in 454 contests. Reinhart had 25 goals and 15 assists in 54 games last season.

Jevon Holland Signs With Miami Dolphins

     Safety Jevon Holland has signed a four-year contract with the Miami Dolphins. He was selected by the Dolphins during the second round of the 2021 NFL Draft. 
     Holland was with the University of Oregon. He played his freshman and sophomore years with the Ducks then opted up last year due to the coronavirus pandemic. 

Dolphins Sign Cre'Von LeBlanc

     The Miami Dolphins have signed defensive back Cre'Von LeBlanc to a deal. LeBlanc has been with the Philadelphia Eagles for the last three seasons. He had previous stints with the Chicago Bears and Detroit Lions. 
     He played high school football with the Glades Central Raiders. LcBlanc stayed locally and joined the Florida Atlantic University Owls. 

Josh Palmer Inks With Chargers

     Former local high school football wide receiver Josh Palmer has signed a contract with the Los Angeles Chargers. He was selected by them during the third round of the 2021 NFL Draft. 
     Palmer played for the St. Thomas Aquinas Raiders in his final two years in high school. He contributed to two FHSAA Class 7A state championships in 2015 and 2016. Palmer went on to participate with the University of Tennessee. 

Florida Panthers Draft Mackie Samoskevich

     The first round of the 2021 NHL Draft was held on Friday night. The Panthers selected right wing Mackie Samoskevich with the 24th overall pick. 
     Samoskevich played for the Chicago Steel in the United States Hockey League. He compiled 13 goals and 24 assists in 36 games last season. Samoskevich has made a college commitment to the University of Michigan. 

Padres Hustle Marlins

     The San Diego Padres breezed by the Miami Marlins 5-2 on Friday night at loanDepot park. The Marlins have lost six of their last seven games. 
     San Diego(58-42) ran out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first. Tommy Pham, their second  batter of the contest, connected with a solo home run to right-center field on the first pitch for his 11th homer of the season. Two batters later, Manny Machado grounded out to short for Jake Cronenworth to score. 
     The Padres expanded it to 3-0 in the top of the second. Trent Grisham singled up the middle and Joe Musgrove scored. 
    Miami(41-57) answered back with one run in the bottom of the second. Adam Duvall blasted a solo homer to center field on a 1-1 count for his 22nd home run of the year. 
     The Marlins cut it to 3-2 in the third inning. Jesus Aguilar doubled into left field and Isan Diaz crossed the plate. 
     In the eighth inning, San Diego made it 5-2. Wil Myers grounded to first and Aguilar threw to the plate. Jorge Alfaro was unable to handle the ball and it ended up at the backstop. Cronenworth reached home followed by Machado on the play.

Inside The Paint Returns

     Inside The Paint will return to the airwaves on the Big O Radio YouTube Channel. The one-hour program will be co-hosted by South Florida Sun-Sentinel Miami Heat beat writer Ira Winderman and WPLG-TV Channel 10 sportscaster Clay Ferraro on Wednesday mornings at 10AM. Inside The Paint was previously heard on Onside Radio. 
     Winderman has covered the Miami Heat for the newspaper since the 1988-89 season. Ferraro has worked as a weekday sports reporter and weekend sports anchor at WPLG-TV since March 2014.

Padres Top Marlins

     The San Diego Padres stopped the Miami Marlins 3-2 at loanDepot park on Thursday night. It was the first contest of a four-game series between both clubs. The Marlins had their first home game since before the All-Star Game break on July 11.
     San Diego(57-42) got out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the second. Jurickson Profar grounded into a force play and American Heritage High School grad Eric Hosmer crossed the plate. 
     In the fourth inning, the Padres made it 2-0. Profar knocked in Tommy Pham with a base hit into center field. 
     It became 3-0 for the Friars in the top of the fifth. Brito Miami Private School grad Manny Machado hit a sacrifice fly to left field and Fernando Tatis Jr. reached home.
     Miami(41-56) picked up two runs in the bottom of the seventh and trailed 3-2. Joe Panik sliced a single to shallow left field and Isan Diaz scored. Three batters later, Starling Marte walked with the bases loaded and pinch-runner John Curtiss came in to score. 

Florida Panthers 2021-22 Schedule

     The National Hockey League released their regular season schedule for the 2021-22 season. All 32 NHL teams received their slate of 82 games each.
     The Florida Panthers return back to the Atlantic Division following a shortened regular season of 56 games in the Central Division during 2020-21. They finished fourth in the NHL and second in the Central Division last season. 
     The Panthers will begin the 2021-22 campaign at home on October 14 against the Pittsburgh Penguins followed by the New York Islanders on October 16. 
     The two-time Stanley Cup champion Tampa Bay Lightning will visit Sunrise on December 30 and April 24. The Cats play in Tampa on October 19 and November 13. Both clubs met each for the first time ever in the Stanley Cup Playoffs last season where the Bolts prevailed in six games. 
     Florida Panthers will play two games at home and two games away versus most of their Atlantic Division foes. The exception is the Boston Bruins will visit South Florida once this season on October 27 while the Cats heads to Toronto once on March 27. 
     The Panthers will challenge all Metropolitan Division clubs three times. The team rotation order used from 2013 to 2020 has been changed. Florida hosts the Philadelphia Flyers, Washington Capitals, New York Islanders and Columbus Blue Jackets twice and visit them once. The Pittsburgh Penguins, New York Rangers, New Jersey Devils and Carolina Hurricanes arrive in Sunrise one time while the Panthers go to those places twice. 
     They will have one contest in Sunrise and one contest away facing each Western Conference club. It includes the Seattle Kraken who is the newest team in the National Hockey League. Florida hosts them on November 27 and travel to Seattle on January 23. 
     The Panthers have 41 home games in the 2021-22 season. 14 games will be on Thursdays and 11 games will be on Saturdays. 

Shayne Gostisbehere Traded To Arizona

     Former local high school hockey player Shayne Gostisbehere has been traded by the Philadelphia Flyers along with a 2022 second-round pick and 2022 seventh-round pick to the Arizona Coyotes. He compiled 60 goals and 159 assists in 381 games during seven seasons with the Flyers.
     Gostisbehere, nicknamed The Ghost, was with the Florida Panthers junior club team. He played several years with Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School and moved on to South Kent School in Connecticut. Gostisbehere attended Union College and helped them win the 2014 NCAA Championship.

Elijah Moore Signs With New York Jets

     Former St. Thomas Aquinas wide receiver Elijah Moore has signed a four-year contract with the New York Jets. The deal is worth $8.94 million. He was selected by the Jets during the second round of the 2021 NFL Draft. 
     Moore helped the St. Thomas Aquinas Raiders win three straight FHSAA Class 7A state titles from 2014 to 2016. He went on to play with Ole Miss for three seasons. 

Eddy Alvarez United States Flag Bearer

     Miami Marlins infielder Eddy Alvarez will be the United States flag bearer for the upcoming Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan. He will share flag bearer duties with WNBA Seattle Storm basketball player Sue Bird. 
     Alvarez, a Columbus High School grad, will be the first United States baseball player to be given that honor. He was a speed skater with the United States during the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia. Alvarez received the silver medal for the 5,000 meter relay in short track speed skating. He will be 135th person to compete in both the Summer Olympics and Winter Olympics. 

Marlins Outlast Nationals

     The Miami Marlins outscored the Washington Nationals 3-1 in 10 innings at Nationals Park on Wednesday night. The Marlins were able to snap a four-game losing streak with the victory.  
     Miami(41-55) took a 1-0 lead in the top of the fourth. Joe Panik grounded into a double play for Starling Marte to score. 
     Washington(45-50) answered back quickly in the bottom of the fourth. Andrew Stevenson drove in Josh Harrison on a double to right field. 
     The Marlins compiled two runs during the 10th inning. Jorge Alfaro knocked in Lewis Brinson with a double into left field. Miguel Rojas then hit a sacrifice fly to center field and Sandy Leon crossed the plate.

New England Revolution Rout Inter Miami CF

     The New England Revolution dominated Inter Miami CF 5-0 at DRV PNK Stadium in Fort Lauderdale on Wednesday night. It was the first meeting ever between both Major League Soccer clubs. New England had never won a game against a defunct South Florida franchise the Miami Fusion two decades ago.
     Inter Miami CF have lost six consecutive games. They have scored just one goal during that span and been shut out in five of their last six contests.

Chris Driedger Goes To Seattle Kraken

     The National Hockey League expansion draft for the Seattle Kraken franchise was held on Wednesday. One player from the unprotected list supplied by the Florida Panthers had to be picked. 
     The Seattle Kraken ended up selecting goalie Chris Driedger from the Panthers. Driedger spent the past two seasons with Florida. He had a 21-8 record, .931 save percentage, 2.07 goals against average and four shutouts in 35 games while with the Panthers. 

Tyson Campbell Signs With Jaguars

     Former local high school football player Tyson Campbell has signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars. The Jaguars selected him with the first pick of the second round in the 2021 NFL Draft. 
     Campball played high school football with the American Heritage Patriots. He captured three FHSAA Class 5A state championships in 2014, 2016 and 2017. He participated with the University of Georgia Bulldogs for three seasons.

Nationals Ease By Marlins

     The Washington Nationals got by the Miami Marlins 6-3 on Tuesday night at Nationals Park. The Marlins have lost four consecutive contests and five of six games since the All-Star Game break. 
     In the second inning, Washington(45-49) scored first. Victor Robles knocked in Josh Harrison with a base hit into center field. 
     The Nationals increased it to 2-0 during the bottom of the fifth. Ryan Zimmerman singled to center field for Trea Turner to score. 
     Miami(40-55) overtook the Nationals in the top of the sixth with three runs. Adam Duvall blasted a three-run homer to left-center field on a 0-1 pitch with Isan Diaz and Starling Marte on base. 
     The Nats reclaimed the lead 5-3 in the bottom of the frame. Yadiel Hernandez fisted a single to shallow left field and Tres Barrera crossed the plate. Two batters later, Turner singled to right-center field which brought in Hernandez. Juan Soto came up next and drove in Gerardo Parra with a single up the middle. 
     Washington expanded their lead to 6-3 in the eighth inning. Josh Bell lifted a solo homer to left field on a 2-2 pitch for his 100th career home run in the majors.

Nationals Pound Marlins

     The Washington Nationals routed the Miami Marlins 18-1 at Nationals Park on Monday night. The Marlins have fallen in three straight games. It was the Marlins worst defeat since June 27, 2003 when they lost to the Boston Red Sox 25-8. 
     Washington(44-49) ripped out to a 4-0 lead in the opening frame. Alcides Escobar led off with a single and then scored on a triple by Trea Turner to deep left. Juan Soto followed with a two-run homer to left field on a 1-0 pitch for his 15th homer of the season. Josh Bell came up next and bashed a solo homer to left field on a 3-2 pitch for his 13th home run of the year. 
     The Nationals made it a ten-run cushion in the bottom of the second. Tres Barrera connected with the first pitch over the left-center field fence. It was his first home run in the majors. Three batters later, Turner lifted a three-run homer to left field on a 3-2 count. Jon Lester and Escobar scored in front of him on the play. 
     Josh Harrison later doubled into the left-field corner to score Juan Soto. Gerardo Parra knocked in Harrison with a base hit into center field. 
     In the fifth inning, the Nats added two more runs for a 12-0 lead. Lester lifted a two-run homer to center field on a 1-0 pitch with Parra aboard. 
     Miami(40-54) gave up six runs in the bottom of the seventh. Yadiel Hernandez drove in Parra on a single into center field. Jordy Mercer got a two-run single to left which brought in Barrera and Hernandez. Solo later blasted a three-run homer to left-center field on a 0-1 pitch for his second home run of the game and 16th of the campaign.
     The Marlins broke the shutout in the top of the eighth. Miguel Rojas cracked a solo home run to left field on a 3-1 count. 

James Cook On Phil Steele Magazine Cover

     Former Miami Central Rockets running back James Cook is on a special edition magazine cover of the 2021 Phil Steele's College Football Preview. The limited cover was branded by the Georgia Bulldog Club.
     Cook is one of four University of Georgia players that appeared on the cover. The others are running back Zamir White, wide receiver Kearis Jackson and defensive tackle Jordan Davis.  

Florida Panthers Preseason Schedule

     The Florida Panthers released their 2021-22 preseason schedule. There was a shorter preseason for the club last season. 
     The Panthers will open up with their annual doubleheader. They will host the Nashville Predators on September 26 at 3PM and 7PM. The Cats will visit the Dallas Stars on September 29 and play them in South Florida on October 1. 
     Florida will be on the road for their next two contests. They face the defending two-time Stanley Cup champions Tampa Bay Lightning in Orlando on October 5 and at Tampa on October 7. The Panthers finish off the preseason schedule in Sunrise against the Bolts on October 9.

Phillies Handle Marlins

     The Philadelphia Phillies held off the Miami Marlins 7-4 at Citizens Bank Park on Sunday. The Phillies earlier edged the Marlins 3-2 to complete a game held over from Saturday night. 

Miami Heat Releases Preseason Schedule

     The Miami Heat issued their 2021-22 preseason schedule. They will host three home games at the newly named FTX Arena. 
     The Atlanta Hawks will visit on October 4 followed by the Charlotte Hornets on October 11. The Heat will complete the slate with the Boston Celtics on October 15. 

Marlins Fall To Phillies

     The Miami Marlins lost the Philadelphia Phillies 3-2 on Sunday at Citizens Bank Park. The game was suspended in the 10th inning tied 2-2 on Saturday night and was restarted prior to their scheduled Sunday contest. 
     Philadelphia(46-45) got a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Andrew McCutchen hit a sacrifice fly to center field and Jean Segura scored. They made it 2-0 when Rhys Hoskins doubled into center and Bryce Harper crossed the plate. 
     Miami(40-52) compiled two runs in the top of the ninth to even it up 2-2. Jesus Aguilar powered a two-run homer to left field on a 0-1 pitch with Starling Marte aboard. It was the second straight game that Aguilar homered and his 17th home run of the season. 
     In the 10th inning, the Phillies finished the contest. After Jean Segura bunted over Travis Jankowski to third, J.T. Realmuto blasted to two-run homer to right-center field on a 0-2 pitch for his ninth home run of the campaign. 

Florida Panthers Expansion Draft Protection List

     All 30 National Hockey League teams announced the players they will protect and who will be eligible for the upcoming Seattle Kraken expansion draft on Wednesday night. The Vegas Golden Knights is the only club that is exempt from the process. 
     The Florida Panthers listed seven forwards, three defensemen and one goalie that will be protected. The forwards are Alekander Barkov, Jonathan Huberdeau, Sam Bennett, Anthony Duclair, Patric Hornqvist, Carter Verhaeghe and Marson Marchment. Aaron Ekblad, MacKenzie Weegar and Gustav Forsling are the defensemen while Sergei Bobrovsky is the goalie.
     One player from the Panthers will be taken by the Kraken. Goalies not protected are Chris Driedger, Sam Montembeault and Philippe Desrosiers. The forwards are Frank Vatrano, Noel Acciari, Ryan Lomberg, Alex Wennberg, Aleksi Saarela, Juho Lammikko, Brad Morrison, Lucas Wallmark, Scott Wilson and Patrick Bajkov. Anton Stralman, Radko Gudas, Brady Keeper, Brandon Montour, Ethan Prow, Kevin Connauton, Noah Juulsen, Markus Nutivaara, Tommy Cross and Lucas Carlsson are the defensemen.

Inter Miami CF And New York Red Bulls Postponed

     The Inter Miami CF contest against the New York Red Bulls and Red Bull Arena in Harrison, New Jersey was postponed on Saturday due to inclement weather. It will be made up at a later date.
     Inter Miami CF will continue their MLS schedule in a couple of days. They will host the New England Revolution at DRV PNK Stadium in Fort Lauderdale on Wednesday night to begin a three-game homestand. 

Marlins And Phillies Game Suspended

     The Miami Marlins contest at the Philadelphia Phillies on Saturday night at Citizens Bank Park was suspended in the 10th inning. The game was tied 2-2 at the time. 
     It will be resumed at 1PM on Sunday. Their regularly scheduled game for Sunday will happen following that.

West Palm Beach Ratings June 2021

     The ratings for the West Palm Beach area were issued for sports talk radio stations. The time span was from the final week of May until the third week of June. 
     Fox Sports 640 South Florida WMEN-AM showed improvement from a 0.3 to a 0.5 in the period. It was the best ratings for them since October 2019. They more than doubled their audience in the last two months. It is a general surprise considering that the New York Yankees were nowhere near first place in the American League East and Florida Atlantic University had no games. A temporary morning show that replaced Clay Travis was piped in from Fox Sports Radio. 
     Sports Radio 1230 The Zone WBZT-AM stayed at a 0.0 for the fifth consecutive month and the 15th time in the previous 16 months. The Miami Marlins fell to the basement of the National League East with an eight-game losing streak. 

Marlins Blitz Phillies

     The Miami Marlins blanked the Philadelphia Phillies 7-0 at Citizens Bank Park on Friday night. It was the second contest of a doubleheader between both squads which they split. 
     Miami(40-51) moved ahead 2-0 in the first inning. Starling Marte blasted a two-run homer to center field on a 2-1 pitch with Jazz Chisholm Jr. aboard.  
     Philadelphia(45-45) gave up another run in the top of the third. Jesus Aguilar drove in Marte with a single up the middle. 
     The Marlins piled on four more runs in the top of the fourth for a seven-run cushion. Marte doubled to the left-center field warning track for Chisholm to score. Two batters later, Aguilar bashed a three-run homer to left field on a 0-2 count for his 14th home run of the season. Marte and Garrett Cooper scored in front of him on the play. 

Phillies Defeat Marlins

     The Philadelphia Phillies stopped the Miami Marlins 5-2 on Friday at Citizens Bank Park. It was the first game of a doubleheader for both teams. It was also the first time both clubs played since the MLB All-Star Game break. 
     Philadelphia(45-44) rocketed out to a 3-0 lead during the bottom of the first. Travis Jankowski picked up a three-run double down the right-field line to score Bryce Harper, Rhys Hoskins and Didi Gregorius. 
     Miami(39-51) bounced back in the second inning with two runs. Jon Berti doubled to right field which brought in Jazz Chisholm Jr. Two batters later, Miguel Rojas hit a double into right and Berti scored. 
     In the third inning, the Phillies extended their lead. Jankowski singled to left field and Hoskins crossed the plate. Jankowski set a career-high with his fourth RBI in a game. Ronald Torreyes then knocked in Gregorius with a base hit up the middle. 

Ted Ginn Retires

     Former Miami Dolphins wide receiver Ted Ginn retired on Friday. He was selected by the Dolphins ninth overall in the 2007 NFL Draft. He participated in 48 regular season games with the Fins from 2007 to 2009. Ginn compiled 128 pass receptions for 1,664 yards and five touchdowns. 
     He would play in 14 National Football League seasons. Ginn had other team stints with the San Francisco 49ers, Carolina Panthers, Arizona Cardinals, New Orleans Saints and Chicago Bears. 

Matt Doherty Gets Podcast

     Former Florida Atlantic University basketball head coach Matt Doherty has started a podcast at WBT-AM in Charlotte. He coached FAU to a 15-13 record in his only season with the school from 2005 to 2006. 
     Doherty won a national championship with the University of North Carolina in 1982 as a player alongside Michael Jordan, James Worthy and Sam Perkins. He had stints as a head coach at Notre Dame, North Carolina, FAU and SMU.

Florida Panthers Buy Out Keith Yandle

     The Florida Panthers have brought out defenseman Keith Yandle for the remainder of his contract. He had two seasons left on his current deal with the Panthers. Yandle will receive $1.24 million per season. 
He will become an unrestricted free agent and can sign a new deal with any National Hockey League team. 
     Yandle did not miss one regular season contest in five seasons with the Panthers. He currently has the second longest all-time consecutive games played streak in NHL history at 922 contests. Yandle can break the record next season because Doug Jarvis stands at 964 games. 
     He helped the Panthers reach the postseason in consecutive seasons for the first time since 1996 and 1997. Yandle chalked up 30 goals and 201 assists in 371 games with Florida. 

Panthers Re-Sign Anthony Duclair

     Forward Anthony Duclair has signed a contract to remain with the Florida Panthers. It is a three-year deal worth $9 million. He signed with the club prior to the 2020-21 season. 
     Duclair spent time with the New York Rangers, Arizona Coyotes, Chicago Blackhawks, Columbus Blue Jackets and Ottawa Senators prior to his arrival in Florida. He compiled 10 goals and 22 assists in 43 contests last season with the Panthers. 

Gustav Forsling Reups With Panthers

     Florida Panthers defenseman Gustav Forsling has re-signed with the Florida Panthers. It is a three-year extension with the club averaging $2.66 million per season. 
     Forsling was claimed off waivers by the Panthers in January. He had five goals and 12 assists in 43 games during the 2020-21 season. 

Rich Waltz New Angels Voice

     The Los Angeles Angels have named Rich Waltz as their new television play-by-play announcer. He replaces Daron Sutton and will start on Friday. Waltz will be the backup for primary Angles television voice Matt Vasgersian. 
     Waltz previously was the television play-by-play announcer for the Florida Marlins and Miami Marlins franchise. He held that post with Fox Sports Florida from 2005 to 2017.

Miami Ratings June 2021

     The Miami/Fort Lauderdale region received the ratings for sports talk radio stations. The time span was from last week of May until the third week of June. 
     Sports Talk 790 The Ticket WAXY-AM moved from a 0.8 to a 0.9 in the period. Amber Wilson finished off her five-year run as a sports co-host with the organization on June 18. The Miami Heat were eliminated by the Milwaukee Bucks in the first round of the NBA Playoffs. 
     560 The Joe WQAM-AM went from a 0.7 to a 0.6 in the month. The station did not have any game broadcasts during the period which did not help matters. 
     Miami Sports 940 WINZ-AM stayed at a 0.2 for the fourth straight month. The Miami Marlins collapsed to the bottom of the National League East with an eight-game losing streak.

2021 MLB All-Star Game

     The American League topped the National League 5-2 in the annual Major League Baseball All-Star Game at Coors Field in Denver on Tuesday night. The American League were victorious for the eighth consecutive time in the Midsummer Classic. 
     The American League leads the rivalry over the National League 46-43-2. The A.L. has a 26-6-1 record against the N.L. since 1988. 
     The Miami Marlins had pitcher Trevor Rogers as their lone representative of the club. He pitched one inning and surrendered two runs during the top of the fifth.

Dan Sileo Back In Florida

     Former Miami Hurricanes defensive lineman Dan Sileo will add affiliates throughout Florida for his late night show at USA Radio Network on July 19. He will be on WDYZ-AM in Orlando, WYGC-FM in Gainesville and WZLB-FM in Fort Walton Beach. 
     He recently had a run end at 1210 The Man WNMA-AM in Miami earlier this year. He was added to that radio station for late nights in July 2020 and a mid-afternoon shift in August 2020. WNMA flipped from a talk format in early June. 
     Sileo has been on the Florida airwaves in the past. He had sports talk hosting duties at WFXJ-AM in Jacksonville, WQTM-AM along with WFLF-AM and WYGM-AM in Orlando and WDAE-AM in Tampa. 
     He was with 560 WQAM-AM from April 2012 until March 2013. Sileo held roles as a sports host and University of Miami Hurricanes football postgame studio analyst. He did have a short stint in 2013 with 640 Sports WMEN-AM in West Palm Beach. 

Anthony Chickillo Retires

     Former University of Miami Hurricanes linebacker Anthony Chickillo retired on Sunday. He was with the Canes from 2011 until 2014. 
     Chickillo was selected by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the sixth round during the 2015 NFL Draft. He played with the Steelers from 2015 to 2019 and compiled 7 1/2 sacks and 108 total tackles in 65 contests. He spent the 2020 season with the Denver Broncos. 

Jay Allen Taken By Reds

     John Carroll outfielder and pitcher Jay Allen was selected by the Cincinnati Reds 30th overall in the first round of the 2021 Major League Baseball Draft. The specific pick was given to the Reds as compensation because the Los Angeles Dodgers signed pitcher Trevor Bauer after he rejected a qualifying offer from Cincinnati. 
     Allen was a three-sport player in baseball, football and basketball. He was the starting quarterback for their football team. Allen has made a baseball commitment to the University of Florida.

Marlins Select Joe Mack

     The Miami Marlins took catcher Joe Mack with the 31st overall selection in the first round of the MLB Draft. The Marlins got a competitive balance round a pick being in the bottom 10 in terms of winning percentage, market size and/or revenue
     Mack played high school baseball with Williamsville East High School in New York.. He has made a college commitment to Clemson University. 

Andrew Painter Goes To Phillies

     The first round of the Major League Baseball Draft was on Sunday night. The South Florida region usually has some local player that does get picked early in the draft. 
     Calvary Christian Academy Eagles pitcher Andrew Painter was selected 13th overall by the Philadelphia Phillies. He had a 6-1 record with 93 strikeouts and a 0.38 earned run average in 47 innings during 2021. Painter has already made a college commitment to the University of Florida. 

Miami Marlins Draft Khalil Watson

     The Miami Marlins selected shortstop Khalil Watson with their first-round selection in the 2021 Major League Baseball Draft on Sunday night. The Marlins made the 16th overall pick in the draft. 
     Watson  played high school baseball with Wake Forest High School in North Carolina. He has made a college commitment to North Carolina State. 

Marlins Handle Braves

     The Miami Marlins held off the Atlanta Braves 7-4 at loanDepot park on Sunday. The Marlins will be off until Friday because of the Major League Baseball All-Star Game break.

Kevin Dineen Exits San Diego

     Former Florida Panthers head coach Kevin Dineen is no longer the head coach of the San Diego Gulls. They are the American Hockey League affiliate of the Anaheim Ducks. Dineen joined the Gulls back in July 2019. 
     Dineen was the head coach of the Florida Panthers from June 2011 until November 2013. He ended the longest playoff drought in National Hockey League history after 12 years as the Panthers won the Southeast Division in 2011-12. It was the first division title in Florida Panthers franchise history. 

Braves Take Down Marlins

     The Atlanta Braves got by the Miami Marlins 5-4 on Saturday at loanDepot park. The Braves will go for the three-game series sweep on Sunday.

Braves Shut Out Marlins

     The Atlanta Braves blanked the Miami Marlins 5-0 at loanDepot park on Friday night. The Braves shut out Miami(38-49) just seven days ago in Georgia. 
     Atlanta(43-44) roared out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first. Freddie Freeman blasted a solo home run to center field on the first pitch. It ended up being the 18th homer of the season for Freeman. 
     The Braves added two runs in the seventh inning for a three-run lead. Ozzie Albies doubled into left field for Ronald Acuna Jr. to score. Austin Riley followed with a triple to left and Albies reached home. 
     It became 4-0 for Atlanta in the top of the eighth. Orlando Arcia hit a double to deep left and Dansby Swanson crossed the plate. The Braves picked up one more run in the ninth inning when Swanson drove in Riley on a base hit to right field. 

Steve Goldstein Miami Dolphins Preseason Voice

     Steve Goldstein has been named the new Miami Dolphins television play-by-play announcer for preseason games. He replaces the recently retired Dick Stockton in that position. 
     Jason Taylor continues as the game analyst while Kim Bokamper remains as the sideline reporter. Dolphins preseason games will be on WFOR-TV Channel 4 in Miami along with numerous television stations in the state of Florida. 
     Goldstein, a Syracuse University grad, currently handles news anchor and sports anchor duties at WFOR-TV. He has worked as the Florida Panthers television play-by-play announcer since October 2007. 

BetQL Network On WQAM

     BetQL Network was added to 560 The Joe WQAM-AM this week. An announcement was made over two weeks ago that this would occur. 
     The programs were on during the evening shift and replaced 560 The Joe WQAM Rewind along with Sarah Spain from ESPN Radio. Hurricanes Hotline with Miami Hurricanes radio play-by-play announcer Joe Zagacki and the high school sports show with Larry Blustein remains in place.

Big O Show Adds Manny Navarro

     The Big O Show Podcast has added Manny Navarro for exclusive segments on their midday program. He will appear on Tuesdays and Thursdays. 
     Navarro had a long reign at the Miami Herald covering high school sports and later the Miami Heat from 1995 until 2018. He has worked for The Athletic Miami as the University of Miami Hurricanes writer since September 2018. 
     Navarro began to co-host the FrontPAge305 podcast with Andre Fernandez and Walter Villa in June 2020. He also was the evening host on Onside Radio when it launched in October 2020 and held that role for several months. 

Don Mattingly Staying In 2022

     Miami Marlins manager Don Mattingly has agreed to stay with the club for the 2022 season. He along with Marlins management agreed to exercise the mutual option for next year. 
     Mattingly is currently in his sixth season with Miami. He helped the club make the postseason last season for the first time since 2003. Mattingly was named the 2020 National League Manager of the Year.      He did manage the Los Angeles Dodgers from 2011 to 2015.  He led them to three National League West Division titles in 2013, 2014 and 2015. 

Dodgers Avoid Sweep To Marlins

     The Los Angeles Dodgers avoided a four-game series sweep with a 6-1 victory over the Miami Marlins on Thursday at loanDepot park. The Marlins were unable to pull off a four-game sweep of the Dodgers for the first time since 2016. The Marlins won the season series against the World Series champion Dodgers 4-3.
     Miami(38-49) jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning. Jazz Chisholm Jr. led off with a solo home run to right-center field on a 2-0 pitch for his 10th homer of the year. 
     In the fourth inning, Los Angeles(54-34) tied it up 1-1. Chris Taylor lined a base hit up the middle for Matt Beaty to reach home. 
     The Dodgers piled on five runs in top of fifth and moved ahead 6-1. Beatty knocked in Julio Urias with a single through the right side. Two batters later, Will Smith hit a sacrifice fly to the warning track in center field and Mooke Betts scored. Taylor followed with a double off the third-base bag to score Max Muncy. Marlins Come Back On Dodgers

     The Miami Marlins overcame the Los Angeles Dodgers 9-6 at loanDepot park on Wednesday night. The Marlins, who have won four of their last five contests, will go for the four-game series sweep on Thursday.
     Miami(38-47) pulled in front in the opening frame. Garrett Cooper lifted a solo home run to center field on a 1-0 count for his eighth homer of the year. 
     The Marlins made it 2-0 in the bottom of the second. Jesus Sanchez connected on a solo homer to right field on a 3-0 pitch. 
     Los Angeles(53-34) picked up five runs in the top of the third. A.J. Pollock led off with a solo home run to left-center field on the first pitch for his 10th homer of the 2021 campaign. Three batters later,
Mookie Betts barely got a homer over the left-field wall on a full count for his 11th home run of the season. 
     Albert Pujols singled to left and Max Muncy got an infield hit. Justin Turner came up and pounded a three-run homer to left-center field on a 2-2 pitch for a five-run gap. It was the 14th home run of the season for Turner. 
     The Fish closed it to 5-3 in the bottom of the third. Jesus Aguilar knocked in Jazz Chisholm Jr. with a double into left field.
     In the fifth inning, Miami scored one run. Chisholm grounded out to second and Jon Berti crossed the plate. 
     It became 5-5 during the bottom of the sixth. Cooper hit his second home run of the contest which went over the right-field fence. 
     The Marlins took the lead 6-5 in the eighth inning. Sanchez sliced a single into left field and Magneuris Sierra scored. 
     The Dodgers evened it up 6-6 in the top of the ninth. Zach McKinstry smashed a solo home to right field on a 0-1 count. 
     Miami got the walk-off victory in the bottom of the ninth. Aguilar hammered a three-run homer to left field on a 0-1 pitch with Sandy Leon and Starling Marte aboard.

Miami Dolphins Training Schedule

     The Miami Dolphins announced their training schedule prior to the start of the 2021 regular season. The team will hold their first public practice on July 31 at their new Baptist Hospital Training Complex in Miami Gardens. The new facility is near their home venue of Hard Rock Stadium. 
     The Dolphins finished their long reign at Nova Southeastern University in Davie from July 1, 1993 until earlier this year. The club had their training facility at St. Thomas University in Miami prior to that.

Dodgers Fall To Marlins

     The Miami Marlins edged the Los Angeles Dodgers 2-1 in 10 innings on Tuesday night at loanDepot park. The Dodgers have lost two straight after winning nine consecutive contests. 
     Los Angeles(53-33) took a 1-0 lead during the fourth inning. Will Smith singled into left field for Cody Bellinger to score. 
     Miami(37-47) tied it up 1-1 in the bottom of the sixth. Jesus Aguilar reached base when Gavin Lux made a fielding error and Starling Marte scored. 
     The Marlins got the victory in the 10th inning. Dodgers relief pitcher Blake Treinen threw a wild pitch and Smith fired the ball to third when Marte was attempting to advance. Justin Turner was unable to catch it and Castro raced home. 

Paul McFarland Joins Seattle Kraken

     Paul McFarland has been added to the coaching staff of the new National Hockey League expansion franchise Seattle Kraken. He will work as an assistant coach under head coach Dave Hakstol. 
     McFarland was an assistant coach with the Florida Panthers from 2017 to 2019 with head coach Bob Boughner. He was on the Toronto Maple Leafs coaching staff along with Hakstol in 2019-20. 

Nick Bjugstad Signs New Deal

     Former Florida Panthers forward Nick Bjugstad has inked a new contract with the Minnesota Wild. It is a one-year deal worth $900,000.
     Bjugstad was once with the Florida Panthers for seven seasons from 2012-13 until 2018-19. He ended up with 87 goals and 104 assists in 394 games with the Cats. Bjugstad just finished a six-year contract that he received from the Panthers at $24.6 million. 

Steven Kampfer Heads To Europe

     Former Florida Panthers defenseman Steven Kampfer is leaving the National Hockey League. He has signed a deal with Ak Bars Kazan in the Kontinental Hockey League. 
     Kampfer was with the Panthers for three seasons from 2014 until 2016. He compiled two goals and six assists in 73 contests. Kampfer also had stints with the Boston Bruins, Minnesota Wild and New York Rangers. 

Sixto Sanchez Done For Season

     Miami Marlins right-handed pitcher Sixto Sanchez is officially done for the 2021 season. He will undergo surgery to his right shoulder. Sanchez did not pitch during the 2021 campaign. 
     Sanchez showed up last season and helped the Marlins reach the postseason for the first time since 2003. He had a 3-2 record with a 3.46 earned run average and 33 strikeouts in seven starts..

Marlins Snap Dodgers

     The Miami Marlins knocked off the defending World Series champion Los Angeles Dodgers 5-4 at loanDepot park on Monday night. The defeat snapped the Dodgers nine-game winning streak. It was the beginning of a four-game series between both clubs. 
     Los Angeles(53-32) broke out to a 2-0 lead during the top of the third. Chris Taylor doubled to deep right field and Walker Buehler crossed the plate. Two batters later, Justin Turner knocked in Taylor on a single into center field. 
     Miami(36-47) bounced with three runs in the bottom of the frame to take a 3-2 lead. Garrett Cooper singled through the right side for Starling Marte to reach home. After Cooper stole his first career stolen base, he scored on a base hit by Miguel Rojas to right. Adam Duvall would later score on a throwing error by second baseman Zach McKinstry. 
     The Fish made it 4-2 in the fourth inning. Jazz Chisholm Jr. drove in Joe Panik with a base hit into center field. 
     The Dodgers chalked up two runs in the top of the eighth and evened it up 4-4. Gavin Lux walked with the bases loaded and Matt Beaty scored. Cody Bellinger came up next as a pinch-hitter. He hit a sacrifice fly to the warning track in right-center field for Will Smith to score. 
     The Marlins pulled ahead 5-4 in the bottom of the eighth. Jorge Alfaro lifted a solo home run to left-center field on a 1-2 pitch. It was Alfaro's first homer since June 5 and third home run of the 2021 season.

Trevor Rogers Makes All-Star Team

     Miami Marlins left-handed starting pitcher Trevor Rogers has been selected to the National League All-Star Team. It is his first time to be named as an all-star player. The 2021 Major League Baseball All-Star Game will take play on July 13 in Denver. 
     Rogers has a 7-5 record with a 2.14 earned run average this year. It is his second season with the Marlins. 

Braves Walk Off Marlins

     The Atlanta Braves slipped by the Miami Marlins 8-7 in 10 innings at Truist Park on Sunday. It was the 12th walk-off victory for the Braves over Miami(35-47) in their franchise history. 
     Max Fried was called upon to be a pinch-hitter with the bases loaded in the 10th inning. He lined a base hit to center field and Dansby Swanson scored the winning run. It was the first time since 1994 that an Atlanta(41-42) pitcher pinched-hit and got a walk-off hit. 

Big O Show Podcast Adds Exclusive Segments

     The Big O Show Podcast with Orlando Alzugaray has added exclusive segments with South Florida Sun-Sentinel sports reporters Ira Winderman and Omar Kelly. The Big O Show Podcast officially relaunched in middays back on June 15.
     Winderman has been the Miami Heat beat reporter for the South Florida Sun-Sentinel since the first season of the basketball club in 1988-89. He along with Miami Heat television play-by-play announcer Eric Reid are the longest tenured Miami Heat media members. Winderman will do a segment on the Big O Show Podcast twice a week starting in August. 
     Kelly is the Miami Dolphins beat writer for the South Florida Sun-Sentinel. He has covered and reported sports at that newspaper for over a decade. Kelly will be on the Big O Show Podcast during Mondays and Fridays.

Marlins Acquire David Hess

     The Miami Marlins have picked up pitcher David Hess from the Tampa Bay Rays for pitcher Justin Sterner and cash considerations. Sterner signed with the Marlins back in July 2020. 
     Hess played for three seasons with the Baltimore Orioles. He had a 4-20 major league record and participated in 47 games from 2018 to 2020. Hess did not get up to the Rays roster and stayed with their Triple-A team in Durham.

CF Montreal Zip By Inter Miami CF

     Inter Miami CF fell to CF Montreal 1-0 on Saturday night at Red Bull Arena in Harrison, New Jersey. CF Montreal is playing in another city for the second straight season due to coronavirus pandemic guidelines by the Canadian government. 
     Inter Miami CF lost their fifth consecutive game. They have been held scoreless in four of their last five games. 
     CF Montreal got the only tally in the contest during the 41st minute. Mathieu Choiniere fired a right-footed shot on the right side of the box from nine yards away. 

Marlins Get By Braves

     The Miami Marlins passed by the Atlanta Braves 3-2 on Saturday at Truist Park. The Marlins reached the midway point of the 2021 regular season. The rubber game of the series is Sunday between both clubs.
     Miami(35-46) moved out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the third. Jazz Chisholm Jr. knocked in Jon Berti with a base hit through the right side. Garrett Cooper later singled into left field for Chisholm to score.  
     Atlanta(40-42) cut it to 2-1 in the bottom of the fifth. Ozzie Albies drove in Ronald Acuna Jr. on a single to right field. 
     In the sixth inning, the Marlins regained a two-run margin. Cooper blasted a solo home run to right field on the first pitch for his seventh homer of the year. 
     The Braves made it 3-2 during the seventh inning. Freddie Freeman got a base hit into right for Ehire Adrianza to cross the plate.

Braves Blank Marlins

     The Atlanta Braves shut out the Miami Marlins 1-0 at Truist Park on Friday night. The Marlins and the Braves continue their three-game set on Saturday. 
     Atlanta(40-41) scored the only run in the contest during the first inning. Ozzie Albies hit a sacrifice fly into right field to score Ronald Acuna Jr. Miami(34-46) could not score with the bases loaded in the top of the ninth.

Marlins And Phillies Game Postponed

     The Miami Marlins and Philadelphia Phillies game on Thursday night at Citizens Bank Park was postponed. The contest will be made up on July 16. 
     The Marlins head for Atlanta and take on the Braves in a three-game series beginning on Friday. The Phillies will remain home against the San Diego Padres this weekend.
