New York(55-48) sprinted out to a 2-0 lead in the second inning. Rougned Odor singled into right field and Anthony Rizzo crossed the plate. Gary Sanchez came up next with a ground-rule double down the right-field line for former Marlins player Giancarlo Stanton to score.
Miami(44-60) scored their only two runs of the contest during the bottom of the fourth and tied it up 2-2. Jorge Alfaro tripled to deep center field and Miguel Rojas raced home. Alfaro would score later on a Domingo German wild pitch.
It became 3-2 for the Bronx Bombers in the top of the fifth. Marlins pitcher Anthony Bender threw a wild pitch and Rizzo scored.
The Yankees got an additional tally in the seventh inning. Rizzo walloped a solo home run to right field on a 2-1 pitch. It was the second straight game that Rizzo homered for his new team since he arrived in a trade on Thursday. Rizzo compiled his 16th homer of the season with that blast.
