Oz Ocampo New Marlins Assistant General Manager

     The Miami Marlins hired Oz Ocampo as their new assistant general manager last week. He will work in baseball operations under current Marlins general manager Kim Ng.
     Ocampo was recently ended his second stint in the baseball international scouting department of the Houston Astros. He started with the St. Louis Cardinals as a Dominican Republic scout. Ocampo moved on to Major League Baseball working in the international baseball department.

Dolphins Tame Lions

     The Miami Dolphins beat the Detroit Lions 31-27 at Ford Field on Sunday. The Dolphins have won their last two games. 
     Detroit(1-6) scored the first 14 points of the contest and were unable to hold the lead. Miami(4-3) put up 14 points in the third quarter for the only points during the second half and the Dolphins pulled off a comeback victory.

Kings Crown Heat

     The Sacramento Kings took the Miami Heat 119-113 on Saturday night at Golden 1 Center. The Heat finished off a three-game, west coast road trip.
     Sacramento(1-4) sprinted out to a 32-23 after one quarter and continued the momentum in the first half up 71-49 by halftime. Miami(2-5) tried to come back and were down 90-82 at the end of three quarters. The Heat trailed by just four points with 54.1 seconds left in the fourth quarter. 
     Tyler Herro led the Heat with a game-high 34 points. Bam Adebayo dropped in 23 points while Kyle Lowry added 15 points. Jimmy Butler compiled 13 points, seven rebounds and six assists. Kevin Huerter had a team-high 27 points for the Kings in the victory. 

Panthers Step By Senators

     The Florida Panthers moved by the Ottawa Senators 5-3 at FLA Live Arena on Saturday. It was the only home game for the Panthers in a seven-game stretch. The Cats will play their next four contests on the west coast. 
     Florida(5-3-1) took a 1-0 lead at the 7:59 of the first period. Brandon Montour crossed the Senators blue line and backhanded the puck to the right point. Matthew Tkachuk spined and connected a backhand pass to the middle. Carter Verhaeghe snapped a shot from the high slot by Anton Forsberg for his third goal of the season. 
     The Panthers extended their lead to 2-0 on the power play with 8:06 left in the first. The Sens committed a turnover from their own goal line. Tkachuk sent a cross-ice pass from the left point and Aleksander Barkov fired a wrist shot from the right wing for his first tally of the year. 
     Ottawa(4-4-0) scored with the man advantage 37 seconds into the second period and trailed 2-1. Jake Sanderson walked backwards by the blue line and found former Panther player Claude Giroux in the right corner. He centered it and Shane Pinto put in a one-time slap shot from inner right circle past Spencer Knight for his sixth goal this season. 
     The Senators tied it up 2-2 at the 3:23 mark of the second. Drake Batherson made a long lead pass from his own zone down the left side. Brady Tkachuk released a snap shot from the left-circle dot for his sixth goal of the campaign. 
     The Cats reclaimed the lead 3-2 with 36.5 seconds remaining in the second. Barkov passed across from the left point and Montour pushed a square pass from the high slot area. Verhaeghe blasted a one-time slap shot from the top right circle for his second tally of the game.
     In the third period, the Sens evened it up again 3-3 with 8:04 to go. Tyler Motte cycled the puck from the right corner and Nick Holden snapped a shot from the right point and it went off the skate of a defender for his first goal. 
     Florida reclaimed the lead 4-3 with 3:32 remaining in the third. Barkov passed from behind the cage and Montour powered in a one-time slap shot from the top right circle. Anton Lundell would later hand the puck to Tkachuk in the slot area and he placed it into the empty net with 12.5 seconds left for the fifth goal with his new team. 

Hurricanes Slip By Virginia

     The University of Miami Hurricanes bounced back with a 14-12 four-overtime victory over the University of Virginia Cavaliers at Scott Stadium in Charlottesville on Saturday. The Canes had not played in an overtime game since 2019 against Georgia Tech. 
     Miami(4-4, 2-2) scored the only points during the first half of play. Andres Borregales kicked a 38-yard field goal with no time remaining in the second quarter. 
     Virginia(3-5. 1-4) was able to even it up 3-3 at the 10:42 mark of the third quarter. Will Bettridge kicked a 27-yard field goal. 
     The Cavaliers moved ahead 6-3 at 12:11 of the fourth quarter when Bettridge converted on a 24-yard field goal. The Hurricanes picked up a 20-yard field goal from Borregales with no time left in the fourth to tie it 6-6 and send the contest into overtime. 
     Borregales made a 42-yard field goal on the Canes first possession in overtime. Bettridge answered with a 41-yard field goal for Virginia. In double overtime, the Cavs got a 41-yard field goal off the left upright from Bettridge. Miami responded with a 37-yard field goal by Borregales to make it 12-12. 
     The Hurricanes missed a two-point conversion as defensive back Antonio Cleary intercepted a pass in the end zone during triple overtime. Wide receiver Dontayion Wicks dropped a pass in the top right corner of the end zone.
     In the fourth overtime, Virginia failed on their two-point conversion with a pass beyond the end zone by quarterback Brennan Armstrong. Miami won the game when quarterback Jake Garcia rolled out to his right and reached the front right pylon for the score.

South Florida FHSAA Football District Winners

     Most South Florida FHSAA high school football district champions were determined this week. Some high schools clinched their district titles before today.
     In what could be called district title games between undefeated teams in their districts, the Palm Beach Gardens Gators defeated the Jupiter Warriors to become Class 4M District 9 champions while the Palm Beach Central Broncos got by the Wellington Wolverines for the Class 4M District 10 title. The Santaluces Chiefs wrapped up Class 4M District 11 two weeks ago and the Monarch Knights took Class 4M District 12 on Thursday night. 
     The Western Wildcats clinched the Class 4M District 13 title. The West Broward Bobcats picked up the Class 4M District 14 title on Thursday night. The Columbus Explorers claimed the Class 4M District 15 crown. The Miami Palmetto Panthers captured Class 4M District 16 two weeks ago. 
     Class 3M District 9 was won by the Atlantic Eagles last week. Class 3M District 10 was taken by the Blanche Ely Tigers on Thursday night. The St. Thomas Aquinas Raiders won another district title in Class 3M District 11. The Plantation Colonels knocked off the Piper Bengals in the Class 3M District 12 title contest. 
     The Dr, Krop Lightning won the three-way tiebreaker in Class 3M District 13 with the best RPI over the South Broward Bulldogs and the McArthur Mustangs. The Miramar Patriots took Class 3M District 14. The North Miami Pioneers picked up the Class 3M District 15 title two weeks ago. The Southridge Spartans ended up getting the Class 3M District 16 title. 
     The Kings's Academy Lions had the highest RPI compared to the Glades Central Raiders and the Inlet Grove Hurricanes to win the three-way tiebreaker in Class 2M District 9. The Boynton Beach Tigers wrapped up District Class 2M District 10 two weeks ago. The Calvary Christian Academy Eagles got the Class 2M District 11 title while the American Heritage Patriots captured the Class 2M District 12 crown. 
     Both Dade County powerhouses the Miami Central Rockets easily got the Class 2M District 13 title while the Miami Northwestern Bulls grabbed the Class 2M District 14 title two weeks ago. The St. Brendan Sabres claimed the Class 2M District 15 title two weeks ago. The Gulliver Prep Raiders won the Class 2M District 16 title on Thursday night.

Warriors Outscore Heat

     The defending NBA champion Golden State Warriors defeated the Miami Heat 123-110 at Chase Center on Thursday night. The Heat will finish their three-game road swing on Saturday versus the Sacramento Kings. 
     Golden State(3-2) was barely ahead 31-30 at the end of the first quarter. They continued to stay in front 63-59 at halftime. Miami(2-4) kept in striking distance and were down 92-87 after three quarters. Golden State extended it to a nine-point lead 111-102 with four minutes remaining in the fourth quarter. 
     Bam Adebayo with 26 points and eight rebounds for the Heat. Jimmy Butler contributed 27 points, eight rebounds, six assists and six steals. Max Strus pumped in 14 points while Kyle Lowry had 12 points along with eight assists. 
     Stephen Curry fell short of a double-double for the Warriors with a game-high 33 points, nine assists and seven rebounds. Andrew Wiggins completed a double-double of 18 points and 10 rebounds. Klay Thompson was able to add 19 points. 

Flyers Swoop On Panthers

     The Philadelphia Flyers outlasted the Florida Panthers 4-3 at Wells Fargo Center on Thursday night. The contest concluded a short two-game road trip for the Panthers. Eric Staal made his playing debut with the Cats. 
     Florida(4-3-1) broke out to a 1-0 lead at the 3:41 mark of the first period. Carter Verhaeghe backhanded it out of the right corner and Aleksander Barkov trapped the puck in the low slot. Gustav Forsling took a snap shot from the high slot that trickled by Carter Hart for his second goal of the campaign. 
     Philadelphia(5-2-0) tied it up 1-1 at 6:41 of the first. Joel Farabee centered a loose puck from the right wing. Travis Konecny made a backhand pass across from the slot area and Tony DeAngelo placed a one-time shot from the low left circle past Sergei Bobrovsky for his second tally this season. 
     The Panthers answered back at the 7:58 mark to reclaim the lead 2-1. Colin White dropped the puck from the high slot to Radko Gudas. His slap shot was saved then Josh Mahura scored on a wrist shot from the low left circle for his second tally of the year. 
     The Flyers evened it 2-2 with 4:32 left in the period with a power-play goal. Kevin Hayes released a wrist shot from the high slot that was blocked in the crease by Gudas. Konecny chipped a square pass from the left of the crease and Scott Laughton tapped it in from the top of the crease for his third goal of the season. 
     In the second period, Philadelphia got their first lead of the contest 3-2 with 9:43 remaining. They won a left-circle faceoff, Nick Seeler snapped a shot from the left point that was deflected in by Zack MacEwen in the inner left circle.  
     It became 4-2 for the Flyers over a minute later with 8:31 left in the second. Former Panther Owen Tippett sent a lead pass from the red line to Hayes at the Florida blue line for a breakaway. He was stoned on his shot, then centered the puck from the right corner and Farabee steered it in from the top of the crease for his second goal of the year. 
     The Cats scored with the man advantage just 36 seconds into the third period and closed it to 4-3. Matthew Tkachuk took a snap shot from the right wing which was saved, Sam Reinhart poked away the rebound and Brandon Montour shoveled a backhand shot from the low left circle. 

Jonathan Zaslow Starts Podcast

     Former Miami sports talk radio host Jonathan Zaslow will be launching his own podcast. The first edition that he hosts will occur on Monday. 
     Zaslow was recently the midday host at AM 560 Sports WQAM-AM and the Miami Heat Radio Network studio co-host on Sports Talk 790 The Ticket WAXY-AM. He announced his final show at WQAM on September 23.
     He was part of The Ticket from 2004 until October 2021. He was a midday producer, weekend co-host. evening host, midday host. weekend host, evening host, morning co-host, midday co-host and midday host at that station. Zaslow was then shifted to Audacy sister-station WQAM and lasted there almost one year. 
     Zaslow also was part of the Miami Heat Radio Network as a studio co-host alongside Tommy Tighe. He started at the beginning of the 2010-11 season and went until the end of the 2021-22 season.

Heat Rip Pass Trail Blazers

     The Miami Heat breezed by the Portland Trail Blazers 119-98 at Moda Center on Wednesday night. The Heat began their first road trip of the 2022-23 regular season and started a three-game road swing on the west coast. Udonis Haslem entered the contest for his first game in his 20th NBA season. 
     Portland(4-1) had a slight 31-28 lead at the end of the first quarter. Miami(2-3) had a 13-5 spurt at the end of the first half and were up 61-56 at halftime. 
     The Heat kept rolling during the second half and led 94-81 after three quarters. The Trail Blazers surrendered the first seven points and 19 of the first 25 points in the fourth quarter. 

Amy Audibert New Miami Heat Announcer

     Amy Audibert is the new Miami Heat broadcaster in their organization. She will work as a radio analyst alongside radio play-by-play announcer Jason Jackson for home games on the Miami Heat Radio Network and as a television studio analyst role with Bally Sports Sun on away games. 
     Audibert, a University of Miami grad, takes over for Ruth Riley Hunter. She exited the same role back in August to be involved in Miami Heat player programs, analytics and basketball operations. 
     Audibert recently did television work up in Canada. She was a Toronto Raptors sideline reporter and NBA studio analyst for Sportsnet.

Blackhawks Hustle Panthers

     The Florida Panthers lost to the Chicago Blackhawks 4-2 at United Center on Tuesday night. The Panthers began a stretch of six of their next seven games on the road. The Blackhawks extended their winning streak to four games. 
     Chicago(4-2-0) ripped out to a 1-0 lead on a power-play goal at the 2:57 mark. Patrick Kane carried the puck out of his zone into the neutral zone and angled a pass to his right which grazed off Tyler Johnson. Taylor Raddysh advanced it down the right side and fired a slap shot from the top right circle past Sergei Bobrovsky for his second goal of the year. 
     The Blackhawks expanded it to 2-0 with 22.4 seconds left in the first. Max Domi pushed the puck at the blue line and Andreas Athanasiou skated the puck from the right wing to behind the Panthers cage. He passed it to the low right circle and Kane scored his first goal of the season on a wrist shot. 
     It became 3-0 for the Hawks with 4:03 remaining in the second period. Mackenzie Entwhitle centered the puck from the right wing. Philipp Kurashev skated around Gustav Forsling in the right circle and lifted a backhand shot for his second tally of the campaign. 
     In the third period, Florida(4-2-1) broke the shutout with 8:28 left to make it 3-1. Anton Lundell took a shot from the left circle that was saved by Alex Stalock. Colin White poked the puck out of the blue paint and Eetu Luostarinen steered it in from the top of the crease for his third goal of the season. 
     The Panthers cut it to 3-2 with 7:13 to go in the period. Carter Verhaeghe connected a pass from the right circle and Brandon Montour released a snap shot from the top of the crease. Matthew Tkachuk redirected it from the slot area for his fourth goal in seven games with his new club. 
     Florida pulled their goalie for an extra skater with 1:30 remaining. Chicago scored an empty-net goal when Jonathan Toews put in a wraparound shot with 22.7 seconds left in the third. 

Skip Schumaker New Marlins Manager

     The Miami Marlins have hired Skip Schumaker as their new manager. He has never held a Major League Baseball manager position. 
     He will replace Don Mattingly to guide the Marlins on the field. Mattingly spent seven seasons as the manager of the Marlins and has accumulated the most victories at the helm. 
     Schumaker is best known for playing 11 seasons in the majors. He captured two World Series titles with the Cardinals in 2006 and 2011.

Raptors Pay Back Heat

     The Miami Heat were knocked off by the Toronto Raptors 98-90 on Monday night at FTX Arena. It was the second time in three days that both clubs faced each other in the same venue. The Heat defeated the Raptors by three points back on Saturday night.
     Toronto(2-2) went out to a 27-23 lead after one quarter. The Raptors led throughout the second quarter and were up 48-43 by halftime. 
     Miami(1-3) got momentum at the start of the second half and had a 76-71 lead at the end of three quarters. Toronto went on a 25-9 run in the final nine minutes of the fourth quarter to get the victory.

Dolphins Hold Off Steelers

     The Miami Dolphins withstood the Pittsburgh Steelers 16-10 at Hard Rock Stadium on Sunday night. The Dolphins celebrated the 50th anniversary of the 1972 Dolphins 17-0 perfect season with a halftime ceremony for them and wearing the Dolphins old uniform design in the contest. 
     Miami(4-3) and Pittsburgh(2-5) scored all of their points during the first half of play. Steelers quarterback Kenny Pickett was intercepted in the end zone by Dolphins cornerback Noah Igbinoghene with 18 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter. 

Kyle Larson Captures Dixie Vodka 400

     Kyle Larson showed his domination to win the Dixie Vodka 400 at Homestead-Miami Speedway on Sunday. It was the third-to-last race of the 2022 NASCAR Cup Series season and playoff. The final two races on the circuit this year is in Martinville and Phoenix. 
     Ross Chastain finished in second place of the race. He now is in second place of the NASCAR Cup Series playoff standings.

Panthers Power By Islanders

     The Florida Panthers finished a three-game homestand with a 3-2 win over the New York Islanders at FLA Live Arena on Sunday. Both teams opened the 2022-23 season against each other in Long Island 11 days ago. 
     Florida(4-1-1) leaped to a 1-0 lead just 39 seconds into the contest. Anton Lundell stole the puck from Adam Pelech on the end wall. He skated to the right goal line and snapped a shot by Semyon Varlamov for his first goal of the season. 
     The Panthers made it 2-0 at the 9:13 mark of the first. Eetu Luostarinen released a shot from the top of left circle that hit Islanders defenseman Noah Dobson in the head. Luostarinen followed up and with a wrist shot from the inner left circle for his second goal of the year. Lundell was credited for an assist and his second point. 
     New York(2-4-0) cut the deficit to 2-1 at 4:27 of the second period. Mathew Barzal fired a slap shot from long range which Spencer Knight saved, Anders Lee knocked in the rebound from the blue paint for his third goal of the season. Dobson was given the secondary assist on the play. 
     In the third period, the Cats extended it to 3-1 at the 2:56 mark. Colin White raced for a long rebound on the left wing and he centered the puck. Ryan Lomberg blasted a slap shot from the left-circle dot for his first goal of the campaign. 
     The Islanders capitalized on a 5-on-3 power-play opportunity at 9:07 and trailed 3-2. Barzal rifled a high slap shot from the top of the zone and it was stopped. Lee tapped in the loose puck with a backhand shot from the edge of the crease for his second goal of the game and fourth goal of the year. 

Eric Staal Signs With Florida Panthers

     The Florida Panthers have signed center Eric Staal to a one-year contract. Staal had a professional tryout offer from the club for the preseason. He joins his brother defenseman Marc Staal on the Panthers roster. 
     Eric Staal will have familiar face on the Florida bench. Panthers head coach Paul Maurice coached Staal during his two stints with the Carolina Hurricanes. 
     Staal did not play in the National Hockey League last season and will participate in his 18th NHL season with the Cats. He won a Stanley Cup championship with the Carolina Hurricanes in 2005-06. 

Zac Blobner New WDAE Midday Host

     Former Miami and state syndicated afternoon co-host Zac Blobner has been elevated at WDAE in Tampa. He was promoted from weekend host and morning show producer to midday co-host. 
     Blobner became co-host of the Sunshine State Showdown afternoon program with Brandon Kravitz on 940 WINZ-AM in April 2020. He began syndication a month earlier on WYGM-FM in Orlando and WFXJ-AM in Jacksonville. The show ended on WINZ before the end of the year due to the COVID-19 pandemic along with an unstable sports schedule.

Heat Hunt Down Raptors

     The Miami Heat took care of the Toronto Raptors 112-109 at FTX Arena on Saturday night. The Heat opened their 2022-23 campaign with three home games in four days. 
     Miami(2-1) scooted out to a 38-35 advantage at the end of the first quarter. The Heat outscored the Raptors 33-17 during the second quarter and led 71-50 at halftime. Toronto(1-2) bounced back and trailed 92-83 after three quarters. 
     Jimmy Butler led the way for the Heat with a game-high 24 points. Max Strus added 20 points while Tyler Herro had 14 points along with eight rebounds. 
     Former Miami player Precious Achiuwa compiled a double-double for the Raptors with 18 points and 11 rebounds. Gary Trent was able to contribute a team-high 23 points. 

Noah Gragson Wins Contender Boats 300

     Noah Gragson captured the Contender Boats 300 as Homestead-Miami Speedway on Saturday. This race was part of the NASCAR Xfinity Series.
     It was the first time that Gragson had won on this racetrack in any racing circuit. He had more than a seven-second lead with 35 laps left in the race. A caution flag came with 11 laps remaining. It restarted with six laps to go and Gragson won it by less than a second. 

Duke Drops Hurricanes

     The Duke University Blue Devils upset the University of Miami Hurricanes 45-21 on Saturday at Hard Rock Stadium. The Hurricanes committed eight turnovers in the contest. 
     Duke(5-3, 2-2) rattled off 21 points during the fourth quarter to put the game away. Miami(3-4, 1-2) did get their only lead 24-21 with 13:06 left in the third quarter.

Cardinal Gibbons Survives Manatee

     The Cardinal Gibbons Chiefs travelled across the state and defeated the Manatee Hurricanes 31-20 in Bradenton on Friday night. It was the first time ever that both high schools have ever met. 
     Cardinal Gibbons(8-1) chalked up their third straight win and have outscored their opponents 292-80 so far this season. The Chiefs will return home and face the Stranahan Dragons next week in a Class 2M District 12 matchup. 
     Manatee(5-2) have lost twice in the last three weeks. The Hurricanes remain home and take on the Palmetto Tigers in a week. They have outscored opponents 199-127 this year. 

American Heritage Pushes By Naples

     The American Heritage Patriots went through the Everglades on I-75 and handled the Naples Golden Eagles 35-17 on Friday night. Both high schools are top contenders to win a FHSAA state championship in their classifications. 
     American Heritage(8-1) has put up four straight victories and outscored their opponents 348-140 during the regular season. The Patriots have taken the Class 2M District 12 crown and face news district rivals the Hallandale Chargers next week. 
     Naples(6-2) had a five-game winning snapped. They have outscored their opponents 295-99 this year. The Golden Eagles have already clinched the Class 3S District 16 title and visit their final district foe the Bonita Springs Bullsharks in a week. 

St. Thomas Aquinas Clobbers Monarch

     The St. Thomas Aquinas Raiders hammered the Monarch Knights 37-6 at Brian Piccolo Stadium in Fort Lauderdale on Friday night. It was the first time this century that both Broward County high schools met each other on a football gridiron. 
     St. Thoams Aquinas(8-0) extended their winning streak to 21 games. The Raiders remained undefeated and have outscored their eight opponents 301-83 this season. STA travels to the Boyd Anderson Cobras in a week for a Class 3M District 11 clash.  
     Monarch(6-2) had their five-game winning streak end and have outscored their opponents 250-142 this year. The Knights look to clinch the Class 4M District 12 title next week with a victory at the Coral Springs Colts. 

Miami Central Gets By Columbus

     The Miami Central Rockets remained undefeated with a 42-35 win over the Columbus Explorers at Traz Powell Stadium on Friday night. It is unusual that both Dade County high schools have not faced each other in over 20 years. 
     Miami Central(8-0) have piled on the victories for a 20-game winning streak. The Rockets have outscored their eight opponents 311-89 in the regular season. They have already wrapped up the Class 2M District 13 title and take on their final district foe the Monsignor Pace Spartans next week. 
     Columbus(8-1) was knock off their undefeated perch and ended an eight-game winning streak. They have outscored their opponents 313-141 in 2022. The Explorers can clinch the Class 4M District 15 crown with a home victory against the Goleman Gators in a week. 

Atlantic Takes Dwyer And District Title

     The Atlantic Eagles clinched the Class 3M District 9 crown with a 32-14 victory over the Dwyer Panthers at Blum Stadium in Palm Beach Gardens on Friday night. It renewed a rivalry between both Palm Beach County high schools. They both faced each other annually from 2009 until 2018. The Eagles and the Panthers are now tied 6-6 since 2004. 
     Atlantic(5-3) have rolled through both of their district teams over the past two weeks. The Eagles have outscored their opponents 211-119 and host the Glades Central Raiders in a week.
     Dwyer(5-3) currently has a winning record and have been outscored their opponents 127-117. The Panthers head for Loxahatchee and challenge the Seminole Ridge Hawks next week. 

Lightning Hold Down Panthers

     The Florida Panthers lost the Tampa Bay Lightning 3-2 in overtime at FLA Live Arena on Friday night. The Panthers have been eliminated by the Lightning in the last two years of Stanley Cup Playoffs. 
     The Bolts took the favored Cats in six games of the 2021 Eastern Conference Quarterfinals. The Lightning swept the President's Trophy winning Panthers in four games last year in the Eastern Conference Semifinals. 

Celtics Chomp On Heat

     The Miami Heat fell to the Boston Celtics 111-104 on Friday night at FTX Arena. The Heat lost the 2022 Eastern Conference Finals to the Celtics in a seven-game series, which included Game 7 on the same floor. 
     Boston(2-0) raced out to a 30-22 lead after one quarter and they stayed ahead 59-51 at halftime. Miami(0-2) fell behind even more 89-77 at the end of three quarters.

Avalanche Claim Dryden Hunt

     Former Florida Panthers left wing was claimed off waivers by the Colorado Rockies from the New York Rangers. He spent the past two seasons with the Rangers and chalked up 18 points and 79 contests. 
     Hunt entered the National Hockey League with the Florida Panthers and was there from 2017-18 until 2019-20. He compiled 15 points in 31 games while with Florida. 

Santaluces Smacks Spanish River

     The Santaluces Chiefs slammed the Spanish River Sharks 56-6 on Thursday night in Lantana. The Chiefs had already clinched the Class 4M District 11 title while the Sharks have an independent classification this year. 
     Santaluces(8-0) stayed undefeated and knocked off Royal Palm Beach 41-0 just two days ago. The Chiefs have outscored their opponents 294-65 this season. They could end up with an undefeated regular season with home victories against the Park Vista Cobras and Atlantic Eagles in the next two weeks. 
     Spanish River(1-7) was unable to win following their home victory last week against the Hialeah-Miami Lakes Trojans. The Sharks have been outscored 244-95 in 2022 and visit John Carroll Catholic Rams in a week.

Heat Lose To Bulls In Season Opener

     The Miami Heat fell to the Chicago Bulls 116-108 in their NBA season opener on Wednesday night at FTX Arena. The Heat raised their 2022-23 Southeast Division championship banner to the rafters prior to the contest. 
     Miami(0-1) moved out to a 33-28 lead at the end of the first quarter. Both clubs ended up being tied 59-59 by halftime. Chicago(1-0) came out for the second half and got a 22-11 run to go up 96-86 after three quarters. 

Panthers Top Flyers In Home Opener

     The Florida Panthers introduced their 2022 President's Trophy and Atlantic Division championship banners as they defeated the Philadelphia Flyers 4-3 at FLA Live Arena on Wednesday night. It was the Panthers home opener after starting their first three games of the 2022-23 NHL campaign on the road. 
     Florida(3-1-0) jumped out to a 1-0 lead at the 6:06 mark of the first period. Aleksander Barkov passed the puck from behind the cage. Carter Verhaeghe sailed a wrist shot from the right-circle dot past Felix Sandstrom for his first tally of the year. Radko Gudas was credited was an assist against his former team. 
     Philadelphia(3-1-0) thought they tied it up 1-1 less than a minute later at 7:04 as Travis Konecny fired a snap shot from the high slot. It was negated due to them being offside entering the Florida defensive zone. 
     It became a 2-0 lead for the Cats at 8:37 of the period. Gustav Forsling sent a lead diagonal pass from his own zone to Verhaeghe at the red line. He skated in alone on a breakaway and scored his second goal of the contest from the slot area. Barkov picked up his second assist of the game on the play. 
     The Flyers closed it to 2-1 with 3:27 remaining in the first. Zack MacEwen put the puck across to Kevin Hayes on the left goal line. He centered it and Nick Seeler backhanded it in from the top of the crease for his first goal of the 2022-23 campaign.
     In the second period, Philadelphia scored a power-play goal with 4:44 left and evened it 2-2. The Flyers released a shot from the top of the zone and Konecny along with Joel Farabee tried to put in the rebounds in the crease area. James van Riemsdyk collected it in the low slot and slide it in. van Riemsdyk has scored with the man advantage in two straight games. 
    The Panthers regained the lead 3-2 at the 3:51 mark of the third period. Matthew Tkachuk connected a pass to Sam Bennett red line. He advanced the puck to the top left circle and Rudolfs Balcers lifted a high backhand shot from the crease for his first goal in a Florida jersey. 
     The Cats increased to a two-goal margin at 9:08. Josh Mahura streaked down the left side of the ice and powered in a slap shot from the left wing for his first tally with the Panthers. Bennett and Tkachuk both chalked up their second assists each in the contest. 

Alejandro Solana Miami Heat Radio Studio Host

     Alejandro Solana is the new studio co-host on the Miami Heat Radio Network and begins tonight as the Miami Heat host their season opener versus the Chicago Bulls. He with be teamed with Tommy Tighe and replaces Jonathan Zaslow, who held that position since the 2010-11 season. 
     Solana is best known as the executive producer of the afternoon show with Marc Hochman and Channing Crowder on AM 560 Sports WQAM-AM. He is also the executive producer of the Miami Dolphins Radio Network. 

Heat And Panthers Home Conflicts

     The Miami Heat and the Florida Panthers will have home game conflicts and will be playing at the same time during the 2022-23 schedule. This has happened since the 1998-99 season when both teams began to play contests in different venues. 
     A big gripe by South Florida sports fans occurred during the 2021-22 postseason. The Miami Heat's home games in the Eastern Conference Finals of the NBA Playoffs against the Boston Celtics happened on the same day and within one hour of the start of Florida Panther's home games in the Eastern Conference Semifinals of the Stanley Cup Playoffs versus the Tampa Bay Lightning. 
     The first conflict of several this season will be tonight. The Miami Heat have their season opener as they face the Chicago Bulls. The Florida Panthers challenges the Philadelphia Flyers in their home opener. 
     Both teams play at home on the same day 10 times in the 2022-23 regular season. The conflicted dates are October 19, October 21, November 12, November 23, December 8, January 14, January 27, March 4, March 10 and March 25.

Jon Sciambi ESPN Radio World Series Announcer

     Former Miami sports talk radio host Jon "Boog" Sciambi will be the ESPN Radio play-by-play announcer for the 2023 World Series. He will take over the spot held by Dan Schulman.
     Sciambi was elevated to ESPN Radio Sunday night baseball play-by-play voice in 2010. He will become the third person since 1996 to announce the World Series on ESPN Radio joining Jon Miller from 1996 to 2009 and Dan Schulman from 2010 to 2022. 
     Sciambi, a Boston College grad, had sports talk shows on 560 WQAM-AM during the mid-1990s first hosting evening programs by himself and then co-hosting middays with original Florida Panthers radio voice Chris Moore. He later was a midday host on Sports Talk 790 The Ticket WAXY-AM in 2004 and 2005. 
     He has had a history of working game broadcasts. Sciambi was the Florida Panthers radio studio host in 1995-96 and 1996-97. He left South Florida for a couple of months during the summer of 1996 to announce baseball games in the Pacific Northwest League. 
     Sciambi became the Florida Marlins studio host in 1997 and later became a radio play-by-play announcer from 1999 to 2004. He would begin to work college basketball and Major League Baseball games at ESPN. Sciambi was the Atlanta Braves television play-by-play announcer from 2007 to 2009. 
     He was scheduled to work several games on the Boston Red Sox Radio Network in 2020, however the coronavirus pandemic and the shortened season changed those plans. Sciambi has worked as the Chicago Cubs television play-by-play announcer for Marquee Sports Network since 2021. 

WMYM-AM Sold

     WMYM-AM 990 has been sold by Actualidad Media Group to Salem Media Group. The station may possibly flip from a Spanish-language sports format around November 16. Salem Radio Group also acquired WWFE-AM 670 and WRHC-AM 1550 in the Miami market from Fenix Broadcasting Corporation.
     It will be the second AM frequency radio station in the Miami region that will no longer have a sports talk format. Audacy flipped Sports Talk 790 The Ticket WAXY-AM on October 3. They had spoken about sports since August 2004.
     A Spanish-language talk format has been used at WMYM since June 2015. They were branded as ESPN Deportes Radio 990 until Walt Disney Company elimination syndication of ESPN Deportes in September 2019. It became known as Unanimo Deportes 990 and has been the flagship radio station of Unanimo Deportes Network national broadcasts.

Bruins Bust Panthers

     The Boston Bruins halted the Florida Panthers 5-3 at TD Garden on Monday night. It completed a three-game road trip for Florida. The Panthers will have their home opener against the Philadelphia Flyers at FLA Live Arena on Wednesday night. 
     Boston(3-0-0) rocketed out to a 1-0 lead 21 seconds into the first period. Jake DeBrusk stole the puck from Gustav Forsling and skated into the Panthers zone. He released a wrist shot from the right-circle dot that went by Sergei Bobrovsky for his first goal of the campaign. 
     In the second period, Florida(2-1-0) evened it up 1-1 at the 4:32 mark with the Calgary 
Connection line. Rudolfs Balcers played the puck across the end wall from the left corner. Matthew Tkachuk carried it to the right wing, sent a diagonal pass and Sam Bennett tapped it in from the top of the crease past Linus Ullmark for his first goal this season. 
     It became 2-1 for the Bruins with 7:25 left in the second. DeBrusk made a blind backhand pass from the low left circle and Patrice Bergeron flipped a shot from the right of the crease for his second tally of the year. Bergeron scored 403rd goal with the B's which tied him for third all-time in franchise history with Rick Middleton. 
     The Bruins scored two goals in less than six minutes during the third period. David Pastrnak found the net at 7:01 and Trent Frederic followed with a wraparound goal with 7:29 remaining for a three-goal margin. 
     The Panthers cut it to 4-2 with 7:02 to go. Colin White angled a pass from the left wing and Forsling rifled a slap shot from the blue line.
     The Cats pulled their goalie with 4:52 left in the third. White scored his first goal in a Panthers jersey from the blue paint with 1:37 remaining and they were down 4-3. 
     Boston finished off the contest with 1;03 to go. DeBrusk shot the puck from his own defensive zone into an empty net for his second goal of the game. 

New York City FC Eliminates Inter Miami CF

     The defending MLS champions New York City FC defeated Inter Miami CF 3-0 in a first-round MLS Cup Playoff game at Citi Field on Monday. The Eastern Conference Quarterfinal contest ended the third Major League Soccer season for Inter Miami CF. 
     After a scoreless first half, New York City FC made it 1-0 in the 63rd minute as Gabriel Pereira angled a left-footed shot from 12 yards away into the top left corner of the cage. Maximilliano Moralez added another tally during the 69th minute for a 2-0 lead. Inter Miami CF trailed 3-0 in the stoppage time as Heber scored on his own rebound with a right-footed shot from 13 yards out.

Vikings Sail By Dolphins

     The Minnesota Vikings pushed by the Miami Dolphins 24-16 at Hard Rock Stadium on Sunday. It was a rematch of Super Bowl VIII, where the Dolphins defeated the Vikings for their last championship. 
     Miami(3-3) has lost three straight games after winning their first three contests of the 2022 season. Former Miami Central Rockets and current Vikings running back Dalvin Cook led Minnesota(5-1) to the victory with 13 carries for 77 rushing yards and one touchdown.

Miami Northwestern Tops Booker T. Washington

     The Miami Northwestern Bulls rolled to a 26-7 victory over the Booker T. Washington Tornadoes on Saturday night at Traz Powell Stadium in Miami. The game between both Dade County high school rivals was for the Class 2M District 14 title. 
     Miami Northwestern(4-3, 3-0), who ended a two-game losing streak, have not gained so much traction this season. The Bulls will clash with the Homestead Broncos next week. 
     Booker T. Washington(7-2, 3-1) had their four-game winning streak snapped with the defeat. The Tornadoes have outscored their opponents 295-173 this year and visit the Southridge Spartans in a week. 

Cardinal Gibbons Cans Hallandale

     The Cardinal Gibbons Chiefs made the trip down I-95 and walloped the Hallandale Chargers 49-6 on Saturday night. Both high schools played in the same district back in the mid-2010s. 
     Cardinal Gibbons(7-1) have chalked up two straight victories since their district loss to the American Heritage Patriots. The Chiefs have outscored their opponents 261-60 this season. They travel across the state and take on the Manatee Hurricanes in Bradenton next week. 
     Hallandale(1-6) has been nonexistent and have been outscored 218-34 this year. They have an easier opponent next week as they host the winless Taravella Trojans. 

Keith Yandle Joins Sportsnet

     Former Florida Panthers defenseman Keith Yandle has entered the field of broadcasting. He will be a studio analyst of Rogers Monday Night Hockey on Sportsnet.
     Yandle, who recently announced his retirement from the National Hockey League, played for the Florida Panthers from 2016-17 until 2020-21. He compiled 231 points in 371 contests with the Panthers. Yandle currently holds the NHL ironman streak record participating in 989 consecutive games. 

Mike Keenan Back In Coaching

     Former Florida Panthers head coach and general manager Mike Keenan has returned to the coaching ranks. He is now the head coach of Italy for the 2026 Winter Olympics. 
     Keenan was the head coach of the Florida Panthers from 2001-02 to 2003-04. He had a record of 45-73-23-12 in 153 contests. 
     He guided the New York Rangers to their first Stanley Cup championship in 1993-94 after 54 years. Keenan also helped the Philadelphia Flyers capture the Eastern Conference titles in 1984-85 and 1986-87. He also contributed to the Chicago Blackhawks winning the Western Conference title in 1991-92. 

Panthers Slash Sabres

     The Florida Panthers knocked off the Buffalo Sabres 4-3 at KeyBank Center on Saturday afternoon. The Cats have won their first two regular season games in 2022-23. 
     The Panthers will complete their three-game road trip at the Boston Bruins on Monday. Florida will host the Philadelphia on Wednesday night for their home opener. 

Hurricanes Handle Virgina Tech

     The Miami Hurricanes went to Blacksburg, Virginia and squeezed by the Virginia Tech Hokies 20-14 at Lane Stadium on Saturday. It was the first ACC victory for the Canes in the 2022 season. 
     Miami(4-3) was able to snap a three-game losing streak. The Hurricanes return home next week and host the Duke Blue Devils. 

Blanche Ely Disposes Deerfield Beach

     The annual McDougle Bowl was held at Butler Stadium in Deerfield Beach on Friday night and the Blanche Ely Tigers finally topped the Deerfield Beach Bucks 7-0. The Bucks had defeated the Tigers 10 consecutive times since 2012 until tonight. Deerfield Beach has won 14 of the last 18 meetings since 2004. 
     Another interesting fact is that both Broward County high schools participate in the same district for the first time in several decades. The Tigers now are on top in Class 3M District 10. 
     Blanche Ely(6-0) stayed undefeated and have outscored their six opponents 179-44 during the regular season. The Tigers head for Sunrise next week and take on the Piper Bengals next.
     Deerfield Beach(3-5) may not currently have a winning record, however they've outscored their opponents 169-129 in 2022. The Bucks go to PAL Field and challenge the Plantation Colonels in a week.

Somerset Academy Canyons Upsets American Heritage

     The Somerset Academy Canyons Cougars upended the American Heritage Stallions in a Class 2M District 10 matchup at The Corral in Delray Beach on Friday night. It was the first meeting ever between both Palm Beach County high schools. 
     Somerset Academy Canyons(4-3) was able to stop a two-game losing streak. The Cougars will travel next week to Pembroke Pines and challenge the Somerset Academy Panthers. 
     American Heritage(2-5) will not have a winning season this year. The Stallions will play again in two weeks at the Boynton Beach Tigers. 

American Heritage Takes Stranahan

     The American Heritage Patriots went to Fort Lauderdale and shut out the Stranahan Dragons 23-0 in a Class 2M District 12 clash on Friday night. The Patriots have won all six meetings against the Dragons since 2015. 
     American Heritage(7-1) have outscored their opponents 313-123 so far in the regular season. The Patriots will go west in a week to face the Naples Golden Eagles. 
     Stranahan(3-4) will find it hard to reach the FHSAA postseason like they did last year. The Dragons visit Coral Springs next week and take on the Coral Glades Jaguars. 

St. Thomas Aquinas Beats Fort Lauderdale

     The St. Thomas Aquinas Raiders downed the Fort Lauderdale Flying L's 49-13 at Brian Piccolo Stadium on Friday. It was a Clas 3M District 11 game between both Broward County high schools. 
     St. Thomas Aquinas(7-0), who have won 20 consecutive contests, has piled on the points this season against opponents 264-77. The Raiders will welcome the Monarch Knights in a week. 
     Fore Lauderdale(4-3) opened up the 2022 campaign with four wins followed by three losses. The Flying L's next have a district game at the Dillard Panthers. 

Cardinal Newman Charges St. John Paul II

     The Cardinal Newman Crusaders blew out the St. John Paul II Eagles 69-0 at Sam Budnyk Field in West Palm Beach on Friday night. It was a clash between two Palm Beach County high schools. 
     Cardinal Newman(8-0) stayed unbeaten and picked up their third shutout of the year. The Crusaders have outscored their opponents 366-71 during the regular season. They will host new crosstown foe Sports Leadership & Management Cobras next week. 
     St. John Paul II(3-5) was blanked for the fourth time this season. The Eagles will return home to Delray Beach and take on St. John Paul II of Tallahassee in a week. 

Inlet Grove Slips By Glades Central

     The Inlet Grove Hurricanes got by the Glades Central Raiders 10-6 in Riviera Beach on Thursday night. It was the first meeting ever between both Palm Beach County high schools on a football field.
     Inlet Grove(5-1) is off to their best start to begin a regular season since 2008 when they began 6-2. The Hurricanes have won five straight victories since a season-opening loss to the Santaluces Chiefs. They will remain home next week against the Hollywood Hills Spartans. 
     Glades Central(1-7) is off to their worst start since the 20th century. The Raiders have lost five consecutive games and been outscored 223-78 this season. They visit the Suncoast Chargers in a week.

Palm Beach Central Invades Forest Hill

     The Palm Beach Central Broncos went seven miles east on Forest Hill Boulevard and knocked off the Forest Hill Falcons 45-6 at Bobby Riggs Stadium on Thursday night. It was a Palm Beach County battle between two Clas 4M District 10 high schools. 
     Palm Beach Central(6-1, 2-0) continued their dominance in Palm Beach County winning their third straight contest and outscoring their opponents 300-88 this season. All of their victories have been won by at least 20 points. The Broncos will host the Palm Beach Gardens Gators in a week and then face the Wellington Wolverines for the district title at Broncos Stadium in two weeks. 
     Forest Hill(2-5, 0-2) now have a three-game losing streak. The Falcons go north and take on the Jupiter Warriors next week. 

Panthers Spoil Islanders In Season Opener

     The Florida Panthers escaped the New York Islanders 3-1 at UBS Arena on Thursday night in the regular season opener for both clubs. The Panthers started their 29th season in the National Hockey League. The Islanders were celebrating their 50th anniversary season prior to the contest. 
     Florida(1-0-0) got out to a 1-0 lead with 7:15 left in the second period. Colin White pushed the puck from the high slot and Radko Gudas took a slap shot from the right point. It hit off the stick shaft of Eetu Luostarinen in the right circle and it slid by Ilya Sorokin. 
     In the third period, New York(0-1-1) tied the contest 1-1 at the 2:13 mark. Brock Nelson feed the puck from the right wing and Noah Dobson fired a wrist shot from above the right circle by Sergei Bobrovsky. 
     The Panthers answered back 20 seconds to reclaim the lead 2-1. Ryan Lomberg snap shot from the hight slot was saved. Patric Hornqvist captured it at the right of the crease, went around the cage and scored on a wraparound shot.
     The Islanders pulled their goalie for an extra attacker with under two minutes remaining and it did not work. Matthew Tkachuk, in his first game wearing a Panthers jersey, scored an empty-net goal from the neutral zone with 1:15 left.  

Miami Central Clinch District Over Miami Norland

     The Miami Central Rockets beat the Miami Norland Vikings 53-7 on Thursday night at Traz Powell Stadium. The Rockets were able to clinch the Class 2M District 13 title with the victory over the Vikings. 
     Miami Central(7-0, 3-0) remained undefeated this season and have outscored their opponents 269-54. The Rockets will visit the Columbus Explorers next week.
     Miami Norland(4-2, 2-1) have lost two straight contests after winning their first four games of the 2022 regular season. The Vikings head for the Miami Palmetto Panthers in a week. 

Chaminade-Madonna Routs Somerset Academy Key

     The Chaminade-Madonna Lions dominated the Somerset Academy Keys 90-0 at Vince Zappone Field in Hollywood on Thursday night. It was a Class 1M District 6 clash between both Broward County high schools. 
     Chaminade-Madonna(6-0, 1-0) have not lost a game yet during the regular season and outscored their six opponents 286-104 this year. The Lions will host the Avant Garde Sharks in a week.
     Somerset Academy Key(0-7, 0-3) is winless so far during the 2022 campaign and have been outscored 262-30 this season. The Lions have a bye week then will clash at the Pompano Beach Golden Tornadoes in two weeks. 

Atlantic Blanks Seminole Ridge

     The Seminole Ridge Hawks were stopped by the Atlantic Eagles 28-0 at Atlantic Stadium in Delray Beach on Thursday night. It was a matchup between two Palm Beach County high schools. 
     Atlantic(4-3) had only participated in just one game over the past four weeks entering this contest. They have now outscored their opponent 179-115 this season. The Eagles are on the road next week against their recent rivals the Dwyer Panthers. 
     Seminole Ridge(4-3) extended their losing streak to three games. The Hawks will return to south Palm Beach County in a week and challenge the Park Vista Cobras. 

Santaluces Silences Boca Raton

     The Santaluces Chiefs passed by the Boca Raton Bobcats 21-20 on Thursday night. Both high schools entered the contest tied for first place in Class 4M District 11 and the Chiefs ended up winning the district title. 
     Santaluces(6-0,2-0) have outscored their opponents 197-49 and remained undefeated. The Chiefs will play two games in the next week visiting the Royal Palm Beach Wildcats on Tuesday and return home on Friday versus the Spanish River Sharks. 
     Boca Raton(4-4,1-1) have lost their last two games. The Bobcats have to wait two weeks to host the Lake Worth Trojans in their final district matchup of the season.

Jeff Fox Joins Remix Sports Media

     Former South Florida sports radio host Jeff Fox has joined Remix Sports Media. He will host a podcast with that company. Foxx is the founder, owner, chief executive officer and podcast host of The Jeff Fox Show Inc. 
     Fox has made numerous stops on the radio dial. He hosted The Sports Brothers with Ed Freeman on many different radio stations. They first got noticed locally on WTPS-AM 1080 until that radio station flipped to a different format. Both joined Sports Talk 790 The Ticket WAXY-AM as weekend co-hosts in 2009. The Sports Brothers were elevated to the early afternoon spot in January 2010 and held it until December 2011 when their contracts were not renewed. 
     Their next stop was at 640 Sports WMEN-AM. They co-hosted a weekend show there from January 2012 to August 2012. They spent 2015 at 560 WQAM-AM with a weekend program. 
      Fox and Freeman would eventually go to internet streaming with The Sports Brothers Radio Network in 2016 and 2017, joined the 305 Sports Talk Radio Network in July 2016 and then co-hosted a Saturday sports show on WZAB-AM 880 for a couple of months in 2016. 
     The Sports Brothers broke up and Fox spent a couple of years through 2019 as a co-host on 2LiveStewsRadio.com. He also was a digital contributor and guest co-host on WMEN-AM.
     Fox landed at 1210 The Man WNMA-AM in March 2019 and co-hosted a Saturday mid-afternoon program with Gigi Fontaine. They were shifted to evenings in early July 2019. Their show was moved to early afternoon slot in August 2019. It lasted just three days when they both left that radio station. 

Boston Bruins Ink Anton Stralman

     Former Florida Panthers defenseman Anton Stralman has signed with the Boston Bruins. It is a one-year deal worth $1 million. Stralman was given a professional tryout offer by the club last month. 
     Stralman played two seasons with the Panthers in 2019-20 and 2020-21 and helped them reached the postseason twice. He compiled 28 points in 107 games with Florida.

Jazz Chisholm Jr. MLB Network Studio Analyst

     Miami Marlins second baseman Jazz Chisholm Jr. will be a studio analyst on MLB Network. He will work this week during the Divisional Series round. 
     Chisholm will be on their evening program MLB Tonight starting Tuesday. He will also appear on theur midday show MLB Central as a guest. 

Florida Panthers 2022-23 Opening Roster

     The Florida Panthers announced their opening roster for the start of the 2022-23 regular season. The team will begin the campaign as they travel to UBS Arena and face the New York Islanders on Thursday night. 
     The forwards consist of Aleksander Barkov, Carter Verhaeghe, Sam Reinhart, Matthew Tkachuk, Sam Bennett, Anton Lundell, Ryan Lomberg, Patric Hornqvist, Eetu Luostarinen, Rudolfs Balcers, Nick Cousins and Colin White. The defensemen are Aaron Eklbad, Radko Gudas, Gustav Forsling, Brandon Montour, Marc Staal and Josh Mahura. The goalies on the roster will be Sergei Bobrovsky and Spencer Knight. 
     The Panthers have three players on the roster that will not play opening night. They include forward Anthony Duclair, forward Zac Dalpe and forward Justin Sourdif. 

Derick Brassard Returns To Ottawa

     Former Florida Panthers forward Derick Brassard has signed a one-year contract with the Ottawa Senators. It will be Brassard's second stint with that organization. He spent time there in 2016-17 and 2017-18 participating in 139 contests. 
     Brassard was with the Florida Panthers during the 2018-19 season. He had four points in 10 games in his short time with the club.

West Palm Beach Ratings September 2022

     Ratings were released for sports talk format radio stations in the West Palm Beach region. The time span went from the third week in August to the second week of September. 
     Fox Sports 640 South Florida WMEN-AM moved up to a 0.5 after two months with a 0.4. The return of Florida Atlantic University athletics on their airwaves has helped that radio station. The football team started the season with a 2-1 record and created a buzz. 
     Sports Radio 1230 The Gambler WBZT-AM improved from a 0.0 to a 0.2 in the month. They last saw a rating above 0.0 back in November and December 2021 with a 0.2. It tied their best ratings since WBZT flipped to a sports format in late July 2017. The emphasis of VSIN, sports gambling on pro football along with college football and The Greek hosting a local mid-afternoon show has gained an audience. The Miami Marlins were eliminated from making the National League Playoffs. 
     ESPN West Palm 106.3 WUUB-FM was almost about to make a slight change in their weekday lineup. This was the last complete ratings period where Jeremy Marks-Peltz will be the evening host on that radio station. The Miami Dolphins and the University of Miami football team were victorious in their first two games of the regular season. 

Florida Panthers On Bally Sports Florida

     The Florida Panthers will have their games on television at Bally Sports Florida. The Panthers first game broadcast will be on Thursday night when they visit the New York Islanders. 
     Bally Sports Florida will broadcast 75 Florida Panthers games for the 2022-23 regular season. As mentioned back on September 7, seven other Panthers games will be exclusively carried by national television outlets. Two contests will be on TNT while five others will be streamed on ESPN+ and Hulu. 

Panthers Claim Josh Mahura

     The Florida Panthers claimed defenseman Josh Mahura from the Anaheim Ducks. It has not been decided yet that he will be on the Panthers opening night roster on Thursday against the New York Islanders. 
     Mahura was taken by the Ducks in the third round of the 2016 NHL Draft. He had seven points in 38 games last season with Anaheim.

Inter Miami CF Lose Regular Season Finale

     Inter Miami CF fell to CF Montreal 3-1 on Sunday at DRV PNK Stadium in Fort Lauderdale. It was considered a meaningless game because Inter Miami CF clinched an Eastern Conference playoff spot back on Wednesday. 
     Inter Miami CF will open the MLS Playoffs against New York City FC at Citi Field on October 17. An Eastern Conference second-place finish by CF Montreal will have them host Orlando City SC on October 16 in the opening round. 
     CF Montreal rocketed out to a 3-0 lead during the first half as they found the net three times in the first 36 minutes of play. Inter Miami CF got their only tally on an own goal during the 85th minute. 

Jets Race By Dolphins

     The New York Jets outlasted the Miami Dolphins 40-17 at MetLife Stadium on Sunday. The standings in the AFC East Division became much tighter as a result. 
     Miami(3-2) lost starting quarterback Teddy Bridgewater during the first half. The Dolpihns did not lead once during the contest. 
     New York(3-2) put up 21 unanswered points in the second half. The Jets scored at least 40 points for the first time in 63 games.

North Carolina Stops Hurricanes

     The University of North Carolina Tar Heels got a 27-24 victory over the University of Miami Hurricanes at Hard Rock Stadium on Saturday. It was the opening game for the Hurricanes in the Atlantic Coast Conference. 
     Miami(2-3, 0-1) lost their second straight home game. The Canes continue their ACC schedule next week at Virginia Tech. 

Florida Panthers Radio Network On WBZT

     There has been a change in the Florida Panthers Radio Network for the upcoming 2022-23 NHL season. Sports Radio 1230 The Gambler WBZT-AM is the new radio home of the Florida Panthers in Palm Beach County. It is a three-year agreement between both parties through the 2024-25 National Hockey League season. 
     Fox Sports 640 South Florida WMEN-AM was the West Palm Beach affiliate on the Florida Panthers Radio Network at the end of 2021-22 National Hockey League season. That radio station, which is owned by Hubbard Radio, did not carry the New York Yankees Radio Network in 2022 and was not an affiliate. 
     WMEN was a Florida Panthers Radio Network affiliate since the 2015-16 season. It was used as a backup flagship radio station for Panthers radio broadcasts in case of a 560 WQAM-AM scheduling conflict during 2013-14 and 2014-15. 

Lightning Crack Panthers

     The Tampa Bay Lightning held off the Florida Panthers 5-2 at Amalie Arena on Saturday. It was the final preseason game for both clubs. Florida ended up with a 2-4-0 record in the preseason. 
     The Panthers will open the 2022-23 National Hockey League on Thursday night. The Cats will visit the New York Islanders at UBS Arena. The Islanders will be celebrating their 50th anniversary season in the season opener. 

Deerfield Beach Downs Boyd Anderson

     The Deerfield Beach Bucks powered to a 35-0 shutout win of the Boyd Anderson Cobras on Friday night. Both Broward County high schools have split the series 6-6 over the last 18 years.
     Deerfield Beach(3-4) have won two of their last three contests. The Bucks will host their local rivals and new Class 3M District 10 foes the Blanche Ely Tigers in the McDougle Bowl next week at Butler Stadium. 
     Boyd Anderson(0-5) was held off the scoreboard for the fourth time in the regular season and have been outscored 148-6. The Cobras travel to the Marjory Stoneman Douglas Eagles in Parkland one week from now. 

Dwyer Edges Forest Hill

     The Dwyer Panthers picked up a 12-6 victory over the Forest Hill Falcons at Blum Stadium in Palm Beach Gardens on Friday night. The Panthers have defeated the Falcons 11 consecutive times since the 2005 season. 
     Dwyer(5-2) has played their contests close this season with most of their games decided by less than 12 points. The Panthers, who have won four straight, play in two weeks at home against the Atlantic Eagles in a Class 3M District 9 game. 
     Forest Hill(2-4) have lost two straight games and three of their last four contests. The Falcons host the Palm Beach Central Broncos next week at Bobby Riggs Stadium. 

Boynton Beach Slips By Seminole Ridge

     The Boynton Beach Tigers got by the Seminole Ridge Hawks 10-7 in Loxahatchee on Friday night. Both Palm Beach County high schools had winning records entering this contest. 
     Boynton Beach(5-2) have won four consecutive games and outscored their opponents 223-90 so far during the 2022 campaign. The Tigers visit the St. Andrew's Scots next week in Boca Raton.
     Seminole Ridge(4-2) had been victorious in their first four games of the regular season and now have dropped two straight contests. The Hawks play their first game in the new Class 3M District 9 when they travel to Delray Beach and face the Atlantic Eagles in a week.

Miami Central Tops Miami Northwestern

     The Miami Central Rockets blasted the Miami Northwestern Bulls 42-7 at Traz Powell Stadium on Friday night. The matchup consisted of two of the top Dade County powerhouses on the same gridiron. 
     Miami Central(6-0), a three-time defending FHSAA state champion, have outscored their six opponents 216-47 this year. The Rockets face the Miami Norland Vikings in a week. 
     Miami Northwestern(3-3) has lost two straight games. The Bulls challenge the Booker T. Washington Tornadoes next week. 

St, Thomas Aquinas Takes Dillard

     The St. Thomas Aquinas went four miles north on 27th Avenue and breezed by the Dillard Panthers 24-6 in a Class 3M District 11 contest at Otis Gray Jr. Memorial Stadium on Friday night. The Raiders have defeated the Panthers nine of the last 10 games since 2004. 
     St. Thomas Aquinas(6-0) continued to roll through the competition and outscored their six opponents 215-64 this season. The Raiders host the Fort Lauderdale Flying L's next week at Brian Piccolo Stadium. 
     Dillard(2-3) has fallen in two straight games. The Panthers go west on Sunrise Boulevard and take on the Plantation Colonels in a week. 

Pahokee Pushes By Atlantic

     The Pahokee Blue Devils defeated the Atlantic Eagles 27-14 at Anquan Boldin Stadium on Friday night. It was a clash between two well-known Palm Beach County high school football programs. 
     Pahokee(5-2) have won five of their last six games and outscored their opponents 200-143 so far this year. The Blue Devils will host First Baptist Academy next week. 
     Atlantic(3-3) will play all of their Class 3M District 9 games this season in the next two weeks. The Eagles host the Seminole Ridge Hawks in a week and travel to the Dwyer Panthers two weeks from now. 

Palm Beach Central Handles Boca Raton

     The Palm Beach Central Broncos drove by the Boca Raton Bobcats 34-13 on Friday night at Broncos Stadium. Both Palm Beach County high schools play in the highest classification Class 4M this season. 
     Palm Beach Central(5-1) have outscored their opponents 255-82 this year. The Broncos will travel to the Forest Hill Falcons next week for a Class 4M District 10 game. 
     Boca Raton(4-3) had a two-game winning streak snapped. The Bobcats have consecutive 4M District 11 contests with visiting the Santaluces Chiefs in a week then hosting the Lake Worth Trojans in three weeks. 

Cardinal Newman Explodes On Glades Central

     The Cardinal Newman Crusaders pounded the Glades Central Raiders 45-0 at Effie C. Grear Field on Friday night. It was the first victory for the Crusaders over the Raiders after six attempts. 
     Cardinal Newman(7-0) remains the only undefeated high school in Palm Beach County this regular season. The Crusaders, who have outscored their opponents 297-71, will host St. John Paul II next week. 
     Glades Central(1-5) have lost four straight games and are looking at a rare losing record this year. The Raiders will have a Class 2M District 9 contest at the Inlet Grove Hurricanes in a week. 

Somerset Academy Canyons Falls To LaSalle

     The Somerset Academy Canyons Cougars lost to the LaSalle Royal Lions 28-18 in Boynton Beach on Thursday night. It was the first meeting ever between both high schools. 
     Somerset Academy Canyons(3-3) have fallen in three of their last four games. The Cougars visit the American Heritage Stallions in Delray Beach next week for a Class 2M District 10 battle. 
     LaSalle(4-2) will play high schools in Dade County for the rest of the regular season. The Royal Lions will host the Miami Jackson Generals in a week. 

Chaminade-Madonna And Treasure Coast Rescheduled

     The Chaminade-Madonna Lions home game against the Treasure Coast Titans at Vince Zappone Field has been rescheduled again for November 3. It was to be played last Friday, however it did not happen because Hurricane Ian had an effect on St. Lucie County and Treasure Coast. 
     The contest was set again for October 4 and that did not occur. Both Chaminade-Madonna(5-0) and Treasure Coast(1-4) will face each other for the first time ever. The reasons are because of their different classifications and the long distance between both high schools.

Panthers Get By Lightning

     The Florida Panthers edged the Tampa Bay Lightning 3-2 in a preseason game on Thursday night at FLA Live Arena. Both clubs will face each other again in Tampa on Saturday. 
     The Panthers and the Lightning have met in the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the last two seasons. The Bolts swept the Cats in the 2022 Eastern Conference Semifinals and Tampa Bay defeated Florida in six games during the 2021 Eastern Conference Quarterfinals.

Miami Ratings September 2022

     The sports format radio station ratings were released for the Miami/Fort Lauderdale region. The time span went from the third week of August until the second week of September. All three local competitors saw an increase in their audiences. 
     AM 560 Sports WQAM-AM showed improvement from a 0.5 to a 0.9 in the month. The Miami Dolphins began the 2022 regular season winning their first two games. The University of Miami Hurricanes football team started off the same way. The Miami Heat announced a couple of days prior to the period that their radio rights have shifted to that radio station. 
     Sports Talk 790 The Ticket doubled their listenership to a 0.4 after two months at a 0.2. It will be the final complete ratings period of The Ticket with a change of format upcoming. 
     Fox Sports 940 WINZ-AM rose to a 0.3 after five consecutive months with a 0.2. The Marlins were eliminated from postseason contention. Former Miami on-talent Joy Taylor left The Herd with Colin Cowherd midday program during the period. The University of Florida Gators football team started strong with a season-opening home win against top-10 ranked University of Utah. 
     On the streaming front, WKIS-FM-HD2 with the WQAM stream went from a 0.0 to a 0.1 this period. The WQAM stream had a 0.2 after five consecutive months with a 0.0. The WAXY stream was at a 0.0 for the third straight period. 

Park Vista Blazes By Olympic Heights

     The Park Vista Cobras knocked off the Olympic Heights Lions 33-7 on Thursday night in Boynton Beach. It was a clash between two Palm Beach County high schools that have underachieved this season. 
     Park Vista(1-5) finally won a contest after losing five consecutive games to start the 2022 regular season. It was the first of three straight home games for the Cobras. They host the Lake Worth Trojans in Class 4M District 11 play next week.  
     Olympic Heights(1-6) have lost six straight contests after winning their season opener versus the Suncoast Chargers. The Lions return home in a week and take on their new Class 4M District 12 foe the Coral Springs Colts. 

Cardinal Gibbons Dominates Belen Jesuit

     The Cardinal Gibbons Chiefs shut out the Belen Jesuit Wolverines 38-0 on Thursday night at Dr. Bud Tight Field in Fort Lauderdale. Both high schools last met on a football gridiron in 2005. 
     Cardinal Gibbons(6-1) answered back from their district loss last week to American Heritage. The Chiefs have outscored their opponents 212-53 this season. They go on the road next week and challenge the Hallandale Chargers. 
     Belen Jesuit(4-3) had been victorious in four of their last five games entering this contest. The Wolverines host the Gulliver Prep Raiders in two weeks.

inter Miami CF Clinch Playoff Spot

     Inter Miami CF blitzed Orlando City SC 4-1 on Wednesday night at DRV PNK Stadium in Fort Lauderdale. The winning result clinched an Eastern Conference playoff spot for the team. 
     Inter Miami CF is currently fifth overall in the Eastern Conference standings. They will host their regular season finale against CF Montreal on Sunday afternoon. 

Marlins Win Season Finale

     The Miami Marlins played their final game of the 2022 regular season and defeated the Atlanta Braves 12-9 at loanDepot park on Wednesday. The Marlins concluded their 30th season in Major League Baseball. The Braves will have five days off before hosting a National League Division Series next Tuesday. 
     Miami(69-93) took two of three contests in the three-game series against Atlanta(101-61). Marlins manager Don Mattingly managed his final game with the club after seven seasons. Jon Berti led the majors with 41 stolen bases. 

Thomas Drance Radio Show Shifts

     Former Florida Panthers staffer Thomas Drance will have his Canucks Talk two-hour program moved from late mornings to middays at Sportsnet 650 CISL-AM in Vancouver later this month. He joined that radio station to co-host that one-hour show in October 2021. 
     Drance was the Florida Panthers public relations director from January 2017 until July 2019. He joined The Athletic Vancouver and became the Vancouver Canucks beat writer in September 2019.

Braves Clinch Division Over Marlins

     The Atlanta Braves clinched the National League East Division with a 2-1 win against the Miami Marlins at loanDepot park on Tuesday night. It was the fifth consecutive division championship for the Braves. 
     In the second inning, Atlanta(101-60) had a 1-0 lead. Ronald Acuna Jr. singled into center field and Orlando Arcia reached home. 
     Miami(68-93) tied it up 1-1 in the bottom of the fourth. Jesus Sanchez smacked a solo home run to left field on the first pitch for his 13th homer of the year. 
     The Braves reclaimed the lead 2-1 in the top of the fifth. William Contreras drove in Travis d'Arnaud on an infield base hit to the left side. 

Wellington Climbs Over Forest Hill

     The Wellington Wolverines stopped the Forest Hill Falcons 36-7 on Monday night. It was another Palm Beach County football games that was shifted due to the state impact of Hurricane Ian. Both teams played in their first Class 4M District 10 contest. 
     Wellington(3-2) has outscored their opponents 137-58 in the 2022 regular season. The Wolverines travel to Vero Beach and challenge the undefeated Falcons at the Citrus Bowl on Friday night. 
     Forest Hill(2-3) finds themselves at the bottom of the district standings with John I. Leonard. The Falcons will visit the Dwyer Panthers later this week.

Boynton Beach Tops Somerset Academy Canyons

     It was a new crosstown rivalry as the Boynton Beach Tigers hammered the Somerset Academy Canyons Cougars 55-14 on Monday night. Both Palm Beach County high schools and new Class 2M District 10 foes met for the first time ever on a football gridiron. 
     Boynton Beach(4-2) have won three straight games and outscored their opponents 213-83 so far during the 2022 regular season. The Tigers visit the Seminole Ridge Hawks on Friday night. 
     Somerset Academy Canyons(3-2) have made a great climb since starting their football program back in 2016. The Cougars take on the LaSalle Royal Lions at home this Friday. 

Dwyer Edges Pahokee

     The Dwyer Panthers knocked off the Pahokee Blue Devils 14-12 on Monday night at Blum Stadium in Palm Beach Gardens. Both high schools were supposed to play last Thursday night, however it was rescheduled due to Hurricanes Ian. 
     Dwyer(4-2), who have won three straight games, swept Muck Bowl opponents Glades Central and Pahokee in consecutive contests. The Panthers will host the Forest Hill Falcons on Friday night. 
     Pahokee(4-2) had their four-game winning streak snapped with the defeat. The Blue Devils return home to face the Atlantic Eagles in four days. 

Palm Beach Central Routs John I. Leonard

     The Palm Beach Central Broncos easily defeated the John I. Leonard Lancers 58-20 at Broncos Stadium on Monday night. The contest was moved from last Friday night due to the impact of Hurricane Ian. It was the first game between both Palm Beach County high schools in their new Class 4M District 10.
     Palm Beach Central(4-1) have outscored their opponents 221-69 this season. The Broncos remain home and challenge the Boca Raton Bobcats in four days. 
     John I. Leonard(3-3) broke out to their best start to begin a season since 2005. The Lancers will travel to the Wellington Wolverines this Friday night. 

West Boca Raton Upends Deerfield Beach

     The Deerfield Beach Bucks fell to the West Boca Raton Bulls 21-17 on Monday night at Butler Stadium. It was the first contest for both high schools in the new Class 3M District 10. 
     West Boca Raton(4-2) bounced back following a Week 5 loss at the Boynton Beach Tigers. The Bulls will continue district play in 10 days and host the Coconut Creek Cougars. 
     Deerfield Beach(2-4) has come out with their worst record since the 2010 season. The Bucks visit the Boyd Anderson Cobras this Friday followed by hosting the Blanche Bly Tigers in the McDougle Bowl on October 14. 

Marlins Rip By Braves

     The Miami Marlins blanked the Atlanta Braves 4-0 at loanDepot park on Monday night. It began the final homestand of the season for Miami(68-92). Atlanta(100-60) was unable to clinch the National League East Division tonight. 
     The Marlins jumped out to a 2-0 lead during the bottom of the first on RBI-doubles by Bryan De La Cruz and Jesus Sanchez. The Fish added two more runs in the third inning on a De La Cruz two-run homer to center field on a 2-2 pitch. 

WAXY-AM Flips From Sports Format

     Sports Talk 790 TheTicket WAXY-AM concluded early on Monday morning. It flipped to a Spanish-language conservative talk format branded as Radio Libre 790. 
     The Ticket ended their long reign on that AM frequency. It began back in August 2004 headlined by the afternoon program Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz. On-air talent that eventually went national besides them included Jon "Boog" Sciambi, Jorge Sedano, Joy Taylor, Israel Guitterez, Sid Rosenberg and Amber Wilson. 
     WAXY-AM also did hold the radio rights and were the flagship radio station of several South Florida professional sports teams at one point. They included the Miami Dolphins, Florida Panthers, Florida Marlins, Miami Marlins, Miami Heat and Inter Miami CF.

Marlins Stun Brewers

     The Miami Marlins were victorious over the Milwaukee Brewers 4-3 in 12 innings at American Family Field on Sunday. Miami(67-92) was able to take three of the four games in the weekend series. 
     The Marlins will return home to face the Atlanta Braves in three games to complete their 2022 regular season. The Braves could clinch the National League East Division at loanDepot park this week. 
     Milwaukee(84-75) finds themselves two games behind the Philadelphia Phillies for the final wild-card spot in the National League. The Brewers finish the regular season as they host the Arizona Diamondbacks. 

Hurricanes Sweep Panthers

     The Carolina Hurricanes pushed by the Florida Panthers 4-3 at PNC Arena on Saturday. The Panthers are now 1-3-0 during the preseason. 
     It was the second victory by Carolina over Florida over the last three days. The Hurricanes defeated the Panthers 5-2 on Thursday night at FLA Live Arena in Sunrise. 
     The Canes put up two goals during the first period. The Cats chalked up three unanswered goals in the second period before giving up a tally near the end of the frame. Brett Burns scored his second goal of the contest at the 9:00 mark of the third for a Carolina 4-3 lead.

American Heritage Tops Cardinal Gibbons

     It was a familiar Class 2M District 12 matchup as the American Heritage Patriots defeated the Cardinal Gibbons Chiefs 21-2 at Dr. Bud Tight Field in Fort Lauderdale on Saturday. The Patriots have won 15 of the last 17 meetings between both Broward County high schools. 
     The venue has been known as The Furnace for several decades. It was due to the Chiefs playing daytime games because there were no overhead lights at the field. 
     American Heritage(5-1) bounced back following their loss to the Chaminade-Madonna Lions two weeks ago. The Patriots, who have outscored their opponents 247-105 this year, host the Western Wildcats in Plantation next week. 
     Cardinal Gibbons(5-1) had won 11 consecutive games heading into this contest, which included winning the 2021 FHSAA Class 4A state championship over Cocoa at DRV PNK Stadium. The Chiefs stay home against Belen Jesuit in a week. 

Marlins Slip By Brewers

     The Miami Marlins edged the Milwaukee Brewers 4-3 on Saturday night at American Family Field. The teams will play the final contest of the four-game series on Sunday. 
     Milwaukee(84-74) took a 3-2 lead over the Marlins in the sixth inning. Miami(66-92) scored two runs in the top of the ninth to overcome the Brewers. Bryan De La Cruz singled through the left side Jon Berti and Brian Anderson to score. 

Blanche Ely Downs Fort Lauderdale

     The Blanche Ely Tigers knocked off the Fort Lauderdale Flying L's 36-12 at Richard L. Williams Stadium in Pompano Beach on Friday night. Both high schools were undefeated heading into this contest. It was just one of two Broward County high school football games that night due to the impact of Hurricane Ian in the local region. 
     Blanche Ely(4-0) has gotten out to one of their best starts to a season in recent years. The Tigers have outscored their four opponents 148-40 this season. They will have to wait two weeks and visit their local rival the Deerfield Beach Bucks in the McDougle Bowl at Butler Stadium.
     Fort Lauderdale(4-1) had their four-game winning streak halted to start their 2022 campaign. The Flying L's will host the Coconut Creek Cougars in a week.

Miami Central Bashes North Miami Beach

     The Miami Central Rockets went on the road and pounded the North Miami Beach Chargers 41-0 on Friday night. It was rare meeting between both Dade County high schools due to their different classifications over the years. 
     Miami Central(5-0) remained undefeated halfway through the 2022 regular season and have outscored their opponents 174-40 this year. The Rockets face the Miami Northwestern Bulls at Traz Powell Stadium next week. 
     North Miami Beach(2-3) had their two-game winning streak snapped. The Chargers made a long trip to the Orlando area and take on the Lake Mary Rams in a week. 

Inter Miami CF Edges Toronto FC

     Inter Miami CF finished the month of September with a 1-0 win over Toronto FC at BMO Field on Friday night. The team has two more games left on their 2022 schedule and are looking to get an Eastern Conference Playoff berth. 
     The contest was decided during the 85th minute of play. Gonzalo Higuain scores on a left-footed shot for Inter Miami CF to make it 1-0.
