Nick Buoniconti Passes Away

     Former Miami Dolphins middle linebacker Nick Buoniconti passed away on Tuesday at the age of 78. Buoniconti played six seasons with the Dolphins and seven seasons with the Boston Patriots prior to that. He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2001.
     Buoniconti led the No-Name Defense to two consecutive Super Bowl titles and three consecutive AFC championships during the early 1970s. He was part of the Dolphins that became the only team in National Football League history to go undefeated and untied throughout a season with a perfect 17-0 record. This accomplishment still remains unmatched 45 years later.
     He had more of an impact after his playing days. Buoniconti co-founded and became the face of the Miami Project To Cure Paralysis after his son Marc was injured on a football field which rendered him as a quadriplegic. He also got into broadcasting and co-hosted with Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Len Dawson the weekly football show Inside The NFL on HBO from 1977 until 2001.

Twins Crush Marlins

     The Miami Marlins were pounded by the Minnesota Twins 7-4 at Marlins Park on Wednesday night. The score was not closer than it seemed as the Twins put up the first seven runs of the contest.
     Minnesota(66-41) rocketed out to a 3-0 lead in the third inning. Garver ripped a three-run home run to center field on a 1-2 count. The Twins compiled four more runs in the top of the fifth inning for a seven-run gap.
     Miami(41-65) got their runs in the bottom of the ninth. Brian Anderson blasted a grand-slam homer to center field on a 1-0 pitch.

Marlins Deal Richards And Anderson

     The Miami Marlins dealt some of their pitching staff on Wednesday. They traded Trevor Richards and Nick Anderson to the Tampa Bay Rays for pitcher Ryne Stanek and outfielder Jesus Sanchez.
     Richards has been a starting pitcher with Miami for the past two seasons. He had a 3-12 record, 103 strikeouts and a 4.50 earned-run-average in 23 appearances this year.
     Anderson was used as a relief pitcher this year in his rookie season. He hurled in 45 games, struck out 69 batters and had a 3.92 earned-run-average.
     Stanek currently leads the majors this season with 27 pitching starts. He holds a 0-2 mark with a 3.40 earned-run-average with the Rays during this campaign.

Marlins Trade Zac Gallen

     Wednesday was the Major League Baseball trade deadline. The Miami Marlins traded pitcher Zac Gallen to the Arizona Diamondbacks for shortstop Jazz Chisholm.
     Gallen made his major league debut with the Marlins earlier this season. He started seven games for the Fish in 2019 and compiled a 1-3 record with a 2.72 earned-run-average.

Twins Slip By Marlins

     The Minnesota Twins got past the Miami Marlins 2-1 on Tuesday night at Marlins Park. It is a rare appearance by the Twins in South Florida.
     Minnesota(65-41) moved to a 1-0 lead in the third inning. Byron Buxton smacked a solo home run to left-center field on the first pitch.
     The Twins made it 2-0 in the top of the fourth. Miguel Sano connected with a double into deep center field which scored Eddie Rosario.
     The bottom of the frame saw Miami(41-64) get on the scoreboard. Curtis Granderson doubled to the right-field wall for Starlin Castro to cross the plate.

Randy Moller New Florida Panthers Game Analyst

     The Florida Panthers and Fox Sports Florida have named Randy Moller as the new game analyst for Panthers television broadcasts on Tuesday. He replaces Denis Potvin who retired on Monday after two stints with the team totaling 21 seasons.
     Moller began as a radio game analyst with the Panthers alongside play-by-play announcer Chris Moore in 1996-97 when he replaced Alain Chevrier. He later worked with Jiggs McDonald and Steve Goldstein in the broadcast booth.
     He was elevated to Florida Panthers radio play-by-play announcer for the 2007-08 season. He held the post for eight seasons until the end of 2014-15. Moller moved to the television broadcasts prior to the 2015-16 season as a sideline reporter and a studio analyst.

Marlins Top Diamondbacks

     The Miami Marlins beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 11-6 at Marlins Park on Monday night. It was the final contest of a four-game wraparound series between both clubs.

Denis Potvin Announces Retirement

     Florida Panthers television game analyst Denis Potvin announced his retirement from broadcasting on Monday. He finished his second stint with the club on Fox Sports Florida. He worked a combined 21 seasons announcing Florida Panthers contests.
     Potvin, who captained and captured four Stanley Cup titles with the New York Islanders during the early 1980s, joined the Panthers for their inaugural season in 1993-94 alongside play-by-play announcer Jeff Rimer on Sports Channel Florida. He also worked with Dave Strader and Steve Goldstein in the Fox Sports Net Florida booth on Florida Panthers television broadcasts.
     His contract was not renewed by Fox Sports Florida after the 2008-09 season and he was employed as a freelance game analyst by several Canadian broadcasting companies for the 2009-10 season.  Potvin did Ottawa Senators games on Rogers Sportsnet as a television game analyst for four seasons until that company lost the television rights to TSN following the 2013-14 season.
     He rejoined the Panthers in August 2014 and replaced Bill Lindsay in the television broadcast booth. Potvin worked the next five seasons announcing Panthers game broadcasts alongside Goldstein.

Brett Romberg Exits The Ticket

     Former University of Miami Hurricanes center Brett Romberg has exited from Sports Talk 790 The Ticket WAXY-AM. He was the morning co-host with Jonathan Zaslow and Amber Wilson until last week.
     Romberg was a guest co-host and contributor on the morning program with Zaslow and Joy Taylor when he started at that station in the middle of 2015. He was promoted to permanent morning co-host in early 2016.
     He played four years with the University of Miami football team. The Canes won the 2001 BCS National Championship over Nebraska in the Rose Bowl. Romberg won the Dave Rimington Trophy in 2002 as the best center in college football.

Florida Panthers Promote Adelyn Biedenbach

     The Florida Panthers have promoted Adelyn Biedenbach from director of communications and digital media to senior director of communications. She takes over the position held by Thomas Drance until this past Friday. Chrissy Parente rose to manager of communications and Michael Lewis is upped to hockey communications specialist.
     Biedenbach becomes the seventh person to head the media relations, public relations and communications departments of the club and the first woman to hold the position. She joins a list that includes Greg Bouris, Mike Hanson, Randy Siemenski, Justin Copertino, Chris Wojcik and Drance.

Marlins Outlast Diamondacks

     The Miami Marlins got past the Arizona Diamondbacks 5-1 at Marlins Park on Sunday. The Fish have been victorious in four of their last five games.
     The Marlins raced out in the first inning to a 1-0 lead. Miguel Rojas smacked a lead-off home run to left-center field on a 1-2 pitch.
     Arizona(53-53) evened it up 1-1 in the top of the second. Alex Anila drove in Nick Ahmed on a base hit into left-center field.
     In the fifth inning, Miami(40-63) regained the lead. Rojas scored on a fielding error during a Harold Ramirez at-bat.
     The Fish extended the margin during the bottom of the sixth. Brian Anderson homered over the left-field wall on the first pitch. Ramirez clocked a two-run homer on a full count to center with Neil Walker aboard in the seventh inning to make it 5-1.

Marlins Trade Sergio Romo

     The Miami Marlins have traded relief pitcher Sergio Romo and pitcher Chris Vallimont to the Minnesota Twins for first baseman Lewin Diaz. Romo signed as a free agent with Miami prior to the 2019 regular season.
     He pitched fine with the Marlins this year with 7.88 strikeouts per nine innings, 3.58 ERA and he converted on 17 of 18 save attempts.  Romo won three World Series titles with the San Francisco Giants in 2010, 2012 and 2014.

Diamondbacks Defeat Marlins

     The Miami Marlins fell to the Arizona Diamondbacks 9-2 at Marlins Park on Saturday night. The loss snapped a three-game winning streak for the Marlins.

Marlins Overcome Diamondbacks

     The Miami Marlins got a 3-2 walk-off victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks at Marlins Park on Friday night. It was the first contest of a four-game series between both clubs.
     The Marlins got up 1-0 in the first inning. Neil Walker hit a sacrifice fly to center field and Miguel Rojas scored.
     Arizona(52-52) compiled a couple of runs to take the lead. Zack Greinke doubled to left field in the top of the second for Adam Jones to cross the plate. Nick Ahmed grounded out to short which scored Jake Lamb during the fourth inning.
     Miami(39-62) pulled off a comeback in the ninth inning. Jorge Alfaro drove in Yadier Rivera with a sacrifice fly to right. Harold Ramirez later knocked in Walker on a sacrifice fly to center field for the winning run and the walk-off victory. 

Thomas Drance Leaving Florida Panthers

     Florida Panthers vice president of communications and public relations Thomas Drance is leaving the club. His final day with the organization is Friday.
     Drance joined the Panthers in January 2017. He was the editor-in-chief of Nation Network in Western Canada prior to joining the club. Drance also had writing stints at The Score, Rogers Sportsnet and Triumph Publishing.

Miami Dolphins Announce Broadcast Team

     The Miami Dolphins have set their announcing crew for the 2019 NFL season. All three radio broadcasters return to the radio booth with Jimmy Cefalo as play-by-play announcer along with Joe Rose and Bob Griese as game analysts. Kim Bokamper comes back as sideline reporter. Miami Sports Radio 560 WQAM-AM is the flagship station of the Miami Dolphins Radio Network.
     Dolphins preseason games will have Griese and Jason Taylor as game analysts with Bokamper as a sideline reporter. Taylor worked as a defensive coach for St. Thomas Aquinas and was a game analyst on Westwood One for Sunday NFL games last year.

Marlins Shut Out White Sox

     The Miami Marlins blanked the Chicago White Sox 2-0 at Guaranteed Rate Field on Wednesday night. The Fish finished the road trip with a 2-4 record. Miami(38-62) starting pitcher Zac Gallen picked up his first career victory.
     Chicago(45-54) surrendered the only runs of the contest during the eighth inning. Cesar Puello connected with a two-run homer to left field on the first pitch for his first home run in a Marlins uniform. Harold Ramirez was able to score in front of him on the play.

Jim Rodriguez And Boss Lady Launch Podcast

     Former local radio co-hosts Jim Rodriguez and The Boss Lady opened their brand new podcast this past Sunday. J-Rod and The Boss Lady will continue to have the same talk show genre that they had on terrestrial radio.
     They began a late night weekday program on 1210 The Man WNMA-AM in late March. Both were elevated to the evening shift in May and the show lasted until the beginning of July.
     Rodriguez once co-hosted a late morning show with Sean Stanley on SB Nation Radio from June 2017 until July 2018. He was a sports producer at Univision and is currently a coordinating producer for DAZN.

Jake Elman Joins Five Reasons Sports Network

     Local sportswriter Jake Elman has joined Five Reasons Sports Network. He will be a part of their Shula Bowl podcasts on the Florida Atlantic University and Florida International University football programs.
     Elman has worked on the Palm Beach Post staff for the last couple of years. He is currently the FAU sports beat writer along with working on high school athletics.

Marlins Mangle White Sox

     The Miami Marlins stopped a four-game losing streak with a 5-1 win over the Chicago White Sox on Tuesday night at Guaranteed Rate Field. Marlins starting pitcher Caleb Smith had a perfect game through 17 batters and allowed two hits in seven innings.
     Miami(37-62) chalked up four runs in the fourth inning. Neil Walker singled into right field to score Brian Anderson. Starlin Castro followed with a double down the left-field line into the corner which brought in Walker. Two batters later, Curtis Granderson smashed a solo home run to right-center field on a 0-1 pitch.
     The Marlins added another run in the top of the fifth. Harold Ramirez homered to right-center field on a 0-1 count to make it 5-0.
     Chicago(45-53) was able to break the shutout during the sixth inning. Jon Jay knocked in Adam Engel on a base hit into right field.

White Sox Wipe Out Marlins

     The Miami Marlins continued their road trip and fell to the Chicago White Sox 9-1 at Guaranteed Rate Field on Monday night. The Fish have lost four straight games and 12 of their last 16.
     In the first inning, Chicago(45-52) raced out to a 2-0 lead. Jose Abreu drove in Jon Jay with a double to deep left field.  Yoan Moncada followed with a base hit to right field which brought in Abreu.
     Miami(36-62) quickly answered in the top of the second. Jorge Alfaro connected on a solo home run to right-center field on a 2-1 count.
     The White Sox extended it to 4-1 in the third inning. After taking a strike on the first pitch, Abreu cracked a two-run homer to center field with Jay aboard.
     The Pale Hoses piled on three more runs in the bottom of the fifth. Moncada blasted a three-run homer to straight-away center field on a 1-0 pitch for his 18th home run of the season. Leury Garcia and Abreu scored in front of him on the play.
      It continued to be a power attack for the Southsiders in the following frame. James McCann and Ryan Goins both had back-to-back solo homers to right field for an eight-run margin.

MacKenzie Weegar Signs With Panthers

     The Florida Panthers agreed to a one-year deal with defenseman MacKenzie Weegar. He has played with the club for the past three seasons.
     Weegar broke out last season with several career highs which included four goals and 11 assists in 64 games. He has six goals and 17 assists in 127 games during his NHL career.

Florida Panthers Sign Ian McCoshen

     The Florida Panthers have signed defenseman Ian Mccoshen to a one-year contract. He has played 60 games in the last three seasons with the Panthers and has seven points.
     McCoshen, who was drafted by the team in 2013, played in 19 games with the Panthers last season. He compiled one goal and one assist with the club in 2018-19.

Dodgers Slam Marlins

     The Los Angeles Dodgers shut out the Miami Marlins with a 9-0 victory at Dodger Stadium on Sunday. The Dodgers completed a three-game sweep of the Fish. The Marlins have fallen in 11 of their last 15 games.
     Los Angeles(67-35) took a 2-0 lead in the opening inning. Max Muncy powered a two-run home run to left-center field on a full count as Justin Turner scored in front of him. It was the 26th homer of the season for Muncy.
     They got another round-tripper during the bottom of the third. Joc Pederson belted his 23rd homer of the year to right field and Walker Buehler scored to make it a four-run lead.
     The Dodgers increased their margin in the fourth inning. Kike Hernandez knocked in A.J. Pollock with a double to left. It became 6-0 in the bottom of the fifth when Pollock drove in Pederson on a base hit to left field.
     In the seventh inning, Miami(36-61) surrendered three additional runs and were down by nine runs. Pollock muscled a three-run homer over the right-center field wall on a 3-2 pitch for Turner and Muncy to score.

Dodgers Survive Marlins

     The Los Angeles Dodgers handled the Miami Marlins 10-6 on Saturday night at Dodger Stadium. Clayton Kershaw struck out ten Marlin batters and allowed just two hits in six innings of work, however he did not chalk up the winning decision. The Marlins have won only four of their last 14 games.
     The Dodgers would put together six unanswered runs for a big margin. Joc Pederson cracked a solo home run to right field on a 2-0 pitch in the first inning for his 22nd homer of the campaign.
     In the bottom of the fourth, Los Angeles(66-35) added four more runs. Austin Barnes doubled to deep left field for Cody Bellinger and Corey Seager to score. Kershaw followed with a base hit into center field which scored Barnes.
     They made it 6-0 in the fifth inning. Justin Turner homered to center field on a 1-0 count. Max Muncy later knocked in Bellinger on a double to deep left.
     After Kershaw was taken out of the game, Miami(36-60) finally got their first run in the top of the seventh. Stalin Castro powered a solo home run to left-center field for his eighth of the year.
     The Marlins came back to tie the contest with five more runs in the eighth inning. Jorge Alfaro hit a sacrifice fly to right field and Bryan Holaday reached home. Brian Anderson drove in Curtis Granderson and Yadier Rivera with a double to left-center field. Kike Hernandez then made a throwing error on a possible infield double play for Garrett Cooper and Anderson to score.
     Los Angeles regained the lead in the bottom of the frame. Matt Beaty blasted a three-run homer to right field on a 1-1 pitch and they moved ahead 9-6. Seager and Barnes scored in front of him on the play. Russell Martin later stroked a single to left for Hernandez to cross the plate.

Dodgers Down Marlins

     The Los Angeles Dodgers held off the Miami Marlins 2-1 at Dodger Stadium on Friday night. It was the first game of a road trip for the Fish. The Dodgers have the best record while the Marlins have the worst record in the National League this season.
     In the fourth inning, Miami(36-59) got up 1-0. Jorge Alfaro got a double into left-center field for Harold Ramirez to score.
     Los Angeles(65-35) overtook the Fish in the bottom of the sixth. They had the bases loaded when Cory Seager grounded into a fielder's choice for Alex Verdugo to cross the plate. Kike Hernandez followed and hit the ball to second where Starlin Castro made a fielding error. Justin Turner scored and gave the Dodgers a 2-1 lead.

Caron Butler Washington Wizards Analyst

     Former Miami Heat player Caron Butler has joined NBC Sports Washington as the new game analyst for the Washington Wizards. He was drafted by the Heat in 2002 and played his first two NBA seasons with Miami.
     Butler has been in broadcasting for the last couple of years. He joined Fox Sports Radio in March 2018 as a Sunday midday co-host with Chris Mannix until late August 2018. Butler is currently in a second stint with that organization from late June 2019 until the start of the NFL season. He was added to NBA Radio on SiriusXM Radio in December 2018 as a rotating co-host of their early afternoon program No Look Pass.

Marlins Get By Padres

     The Miami Marlins edged the San Diego Padres 4-3 at Marlins Park on Thursday. The Fish finished up a six-game home stand with the victory.

Paddack And Padres Edge Marlins

     Padres starting pitcher Chris Paddack faced his former team as San Diego beat the Miami Marlins 3-2 at Marlins Park on Wednesday night. Paddack pitched a no-hitter through seven innings. The Marlins have lost eight of their last 11 games.
     San Diego(46-49) compiled three runs during the top of the fourth. Greg Garcia knocked in Manuel Margot on a base hit into center field. Austin Hedges followed with two-run homer to right-center field on the first pitch for his seventh home run of the season.
     Miami(35-58) finally got a base hit in the eighth inning to break up the no-hitter. Starlin Castro lined a solo home run to left-center field on a 1-0 pitch and expanded his hitting streak to 11 games.
     The Marlins rallied in the ninth inning. Castro hit a single into shallow right field and Miguel Rojas crossed the plate to make it 3-2. Curtis Granderson struck out with a runner on third to end the contest.

Florida Panthers Ink Dryden Hunt

     The Florida Panthers have signed forward Dryden Hunt to a one-year deal. He joined the organization in 2016 after not being drafted.
     Hunt played 31 games with the Panthers last season. He compiled three goals and 10 assists with the club.

Marlins Outscore Padres

     The Miami Marlins blasted the San Diego Padres 12-7 on Tuesday night at Marlins Park. It was the first contest for the Padres on their nine-game road trip.
     In the first inning, Miami(35-57) ran out to a 3-0 lead. Brian Anderson smashed a three-run homer to left-center field on the first pitch. Harold Ramirez and Garrett Cooper scored in front of him on the play.
     San Diego(45-49) answered back in the following inning with three runs to even it up. Ian Kinsler placed a base hit through the right side and Hunter Renfroe scored. The throw to the plate from Anderson went to the third-base dugout and Josh Naylor sprinted home. Manuel Margot followed with a ground out to short for Francisco Mejia to score.
     The Marlins put up four runs in the bottom of the second to go ahead 7-3. Ramirez doubled to deep right field which brought in Cesar Puello and Yadier Rivera. Cooper came up next as he knocked in Miguel Rojas and Ramirez on a single to right.
     It became a blowout for the Fish in the sixth inning. Rojas got a base hit to center field and Rivera  scored. The Marlins had the bases loaded three batters later then Stalin Castro tripled toward the right-center field gap to score Rojas, Cooper and Anderson. He extended his hitting streak to 10 games.
     The Padres closed it to 11-4 in the top of the seventh. Margot connected with a solo home run to left-center field on a 2-2 count.
     Miami made it an eight-run margin in the bottom of the eighth. Cooper lifted a solo homer to left-center field on a 2-1 pitch. He now has four home runs in his last five games.
     The Friars did not go quietly in the final inning. Pinch-hitter Franmil Reyes crushed a two-run homer to right-center field on a 1-1 count. Two batters later, Manny Machado drove in Eric Hosmer with a double into right field.

Nolan Murphy In Wisconsin

     Former West Palm Beach sports radio host Nolan Murphy has been working in Wisconsin for the last six months. He is part of the staff of Good Karma Brands at ESPN Milwaukee WKTI-FM and WAUK-AM.
     Murphy was the High School Hysteria Friday evening studio host on ESPN West Palm 106.3 WUUB-FM during the 2017 and 2018 high school football seasons. He joined that station in April 2016 as a marketing consultant and an occasional evening co-host. Murphy co-hosted a Sunday morning golf program with former Palm Beach Post sports writer Craig Dolch for several years and left ESPN West Palm at the end of January 2019.
     He began his broadcasting career as a promotions and programming intern at ESPN Milwaukee from August 2012 to June 2013. Murphy then joined ESPN Cleveland WKNR-AM as a marketing consultant, fantasy football expert and sports reporter from July 2013 until April 2016.

Panthers Sign Samuel Montembeault, Jayce Hawryluk

     The Florida Panthers continued to resign their restricted free agent on Monday. They were able to agree on one-year deals with goalie Samuel Montembeault and right wing Jayce Hawryluk.
     Montembeault got the opportunity to reach the NHL club last season with injuries to Roberto Luongo and James Reimer. He went 4-3-2 with a 3.04 goals-against-average and a .894 save percentage. Hawryluk compiled seven goals and five assists in 42 games during 2018-19.

Kevin Dineen Joins San Diego Gulls

     Former Florida Panthers head coach Kevin Dineen has joined the Anaheim Ducks organization. He will be the head coach of the San Diego Gulls. which is the Ducks American Hockey League affiliate, for the upcoming 2019-20 season.
     Dineen ended the longest playoff drought in NHL history when he led the Florida Panthers to their first playoff appearance in 12 years with a 38-26-18 record back in 2011-12 season. They lost to the New Jersey Devils in seven games during the Eastern Conference quarterfinals on a double overtime goal by Adam Henrique.
     He spent the last five seasons as an assistant coach under Joel Quenneville with the Chicago Blackhawks. The team won a Stanley Cup title in 2015. Dineen and Quenneville were let go by the Blackhawks last November.

West Palm Beach Ratings June 2019

     West Palm Beach ratings for sports talk radio stations were issued. ESPN Radio 106.3 does not subscribe to any ratings service and are not registered.
     640 The Hurricane WMEN-AM decreased from a 0.4 to a 0.3 in the period. It was a surprise considering that the New York Yankees remained with the best record in the American League East Division.
     Sports Radio 1230 The Zone WBZT-AM ended up with a 0.0 for the tenth straight month. The Miami Marlins continued with the worst record in the National League along with 16 hours of CBS Sports Radio.

Marlins Lose To Mets

     The Miami Marlins fell to the New York Mets 6-2 at Marlins Park on Sunday. The Mets took two games of the three-game series between the two clubs with the worst records in the National League.
     The game changed on the first pitch of the contest. Jeff McNeil smashed a solo home run to left field to give New York(42-51) a 1-0 lead.
     It was tied in the bottom of the frame by Miami(34-57). Miguel Rojas singled into right field which scored Starlin Castro.
     In the fourth inning, the Mets compiled two more runs. Former Marlin Adeiny Hechvarria grounded out to short with the bases loaded for Robinson Cano to score. Three batters later, Michael Conforto got a base hit into shallow right field and Todd Frazier crossed the plate.
     New York expanded the gap in the sixth inning. Jeff McNeil reached first on a fielder's choice and Hechavarriza scored.
     Cano led off the top of the seventh with a solo home run to right field on a 2-1 pitch to make it 5-1. Pete Alonso knocked in Amed Rosario on a sacrifice fly to center during the eighth inning.
     The Fish picked up one run in the bottom of the ninth. Garrett Cooper cracked a solo homer to right-center field on a 0-1 count.

Alex Marvez AEW Commentator

     Former South Florida sports writer Alex Marvez was a commentator and pregame play-by-play announcer at the All Elite Wrestling Fight For The Fallen show in Jacksonville on Saturday. He was the analyst for the AEW Double Or Nothing pay-per-view back on May 25 in Las Vegas and Fyter Fest in Daytona Beach on June 29.
     Marvez was previously known as a sports writer for the Miami Herald during the 1990s and a Miami Dolphins beat reporter for the South Florida Sun-Sentinel in the 2000s. He also contributed a weekly pro wrestling column in the newspaper. He later became an NFL writer for Fox Sports.com and The Sporting News. Marvez is currently an evening co-host on SiriusXM Radio NFL Radio.

The Amigo Exits 1210 The Man

     The Amigo Larry Milian has left his position as a Saturday morning sports host on 1210 The Man WNMA-AM. His final show on the station was on July 6. He joined 1210 The Man when it launched its talk radio format back in March.
     Milian will continue his role at SLAM Radio on SiriusXM Radio as the weekday morning host and program director. He also added duties there as a Saturday morning talk host from 9AM to 11AM as of July 13.
     He has hosted sports shows on several different South Florida radio stations since 2005. They included Sports Talk 790 The Ticket WAXY-AM, 640 Sports WMEN-AM, Miami Sports 940 WINZ-AM and 880 WZAB-AM.

Mets Drop Marlins

     The New York Mets got by the Miami Marlins 4-2 at Marlins Park on Saturday night. The Fish have fallen in six of their last eight games.
     In the third inning, New York(41-51) jumped out to a 2-0 lead. Michael Conforto smashed a two-run homer to right field on a 1-0 pitch. Jeff McNeil was able to score in front of him on the play.
     Miami(34-56) evened the contest during the bottom of the fourth. Harold Ramirez drove in Neil Walker on a double to left. Jorge Alfaro followed with a triple to deep right field and Ramirez crossed the plate.
     The Mets regained the lead in the eight inning. Robinson Cano belted a two-run home run to right field on a 1-1 count and Dominic Smith also scored.

Juho Lammikko Leaves Panthers

     Right wing Juho Lammikko did not sign a new contract with the Florida Panthers and has returned to Finland. He will play with Karpat for the 2019-20 season. The Panthers did make a qualifying offer last month and will retain his NHL rights.
     Lammikko was selected by Florida in the third round with the 65th overall pick of the 2014 NHL Draft. He finally made it to the National Hockey League last season. He played in 40 games and compiled just six assists.

Marlins Top Mets

     The Miami Marlins returned to South Florida following the All-Star Game break with an 8-4 victory over the New York Mets at Marlins Park on Friday night. Both clubs have the two worst records in the National League. The Marlins have won two of their last seven contests.
     The Mets scooted out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the third. Wilson Ramos singled into left-center field which brought in Jeff McNeil and J.D. Davis.
     Miami(34-55) struck back in the bottom of the third with four runs. Miguel Rojas hit a sacrifice fly to center field and Jorge Alfaro scored. Curtis Granderson then homered over the right-center field fence on a 3-2 pitch with Caleb Smith scoring in front of him. Garrett Cooper capped the frame with a solo home run to right on a 1-1 count.
     In the sixth inning, the Marlins expanded their lead to 7-2. Cooper knocked in Granderson with a double into deep center field. Brian Anderson came up next and pounded a two-run homer to right on a 0-1 pitch. Starlin Castro made it 8-2 during the bottom of the eighth when he tripled to deep right field and Anderson crossed the plate.
     New York(40-51) added two runs in the ninth inning. Todd Frazier connected with a two-run home run to center on a 2-1 count and Robinson Cano also scored.

Miami Ratings June 2019

     The ratings for sports talk format radio stations in the Miami/Fort Lauderdale market were released. None of the local competitors showed an increase of audience.
     Sports Talk 790 The Ticket WAXY-AM did not change with a 0.9 in the period. The station was able to broadcast the NBA Finals along with their daily schedule. They have been on top or tied in first place for the last six months.
     Miami Sports Radio 560 WQAM-AM dropped from a 0.6 to a 0.5 in June. They depended on their daily lineup of talk shows and no radio game broadcasts in the month.
     Miami Sports 940 WINZ-AM stayed at a 0.3 for the second straight month. The status of the Miami Marlins with the worst record in the National League did not deter their numbers.
     640 The Hurricane WMEN-AM remained the same with a 0.1 for the fifth consecutive period. They continued to rely on nationally syndicated Fox Sports Radio for 17 hours during weekdays.

Matt Cullen Announces Retirement

     Center Matt Cullen announced his retirement from the National Hockey League after 21 seasons. He captured three Stanley Cup titles while in the NHL He got one with the Carolina Hurricanes in 2005-06 and two with the Pittsburgh Penguins in 2015-16 and 2016-17.
     Cullen was with the Florida Panthers for two seasons prior to the NHL lockout which occurred in 2004-05. He compiled 12 goals and 19 assists in 86 games with the club.

640 The Hurricane Gain FAU Radio Rights

     640 The Hurricane WMEN-AM has acquired the radio rights for Florida Atlantic University. The length of the deal is for five years. They will broadcast all football and men's basketball games. There will also be weekly shows with FAU head football coach Lane Kiffin and FAU head basketball coach Dusty May.
     FAU broadcast rights have belonged to Good Karma Brands for 13 years. ESPN West Palm 106.3 WUUB-FM and ESPN Radio 760 WEFL-AM have broadcast games during that time.
     Ken LaVicka will be retained and continue as the play-by-play announcer and radio voice of Florida Atlantic University. He has called FAU football since 2010 and FAU basketball since 2008. LaVicka replaced Dave LaMont and Evan Cohen for both positions.

Jeff Fox And Gigi Fontaine Promoted

     1210 The Man WNMA-AM moved the program hosted by Jeff Fox and Gigi Fontaine to evenings on the station from 7PM to 9PM as of Monday. Their show has been on Saturday afternoons from 2PM to 4PM since March.
     They have replaced Jim Rodriguez and The Boss Lady, which was taken off the schedule. JR and The Boss Lady began as the late night show from 9PM to Midnight when 1210 The Man launched in March 2019. They were elevated to the evening shift from 7PM to 10PM in May.
     Jeff Fox had co-hosted sports shows with Ed Freeman as the Sports Brothers previously on WTSB-AM 1080, Sports Talk 790 The Ticket WAXY-AM, 640 Sports WMEN-AM and Sports Radio 560 WQAM-AM. They both hosted a Saturday sports show on 880 WZAB-AM along with Fontaine as an on-air sidekick in 2016.

Florida Panthers Ink Kevin Roy

     The Florida Panthers have signed forward Kevin Roy. The deal is between him and the clubs is one year for $850,000.
     Roy was recently with the Anaheim Ducks. Roy played 28 NHL games in the last two seasons as he compiled six goals and one assist.

Dino Costa Exits KFNS

     Former South Florida sports talk host Dino Costa has left KFNS-AM in St. Louis. It was his second stint at that station.
     Costa was the late night host at KFNS from January 2019 until last week. He held the morning shift there from March 2016 to April 2016.
     He hosted an afternoon show on 1400 The Fan WFLL-AM in Fort Lauderdale when it launched a sports talk format in April 2004. He exited there in July 2004 and was replaced by Bob Page.
     Costa recently worked at WNYM-AM in New York City. He was an overnight host at that station from January 2018 until November 2018.

Miami Heat Sign KZ Okpala To Deal

     The Miami Heat have signed forward KZ Okpala to a three-year deal. Okpala was recently acquired by the club. He played two seasons with Stanford University and averaged 16.8 points along with 5.7 rebounds per game last season.
     Okpala was drafted by the Phoenix Suns in the second round with the 32nd overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft. He was traded to the Indiana Pacers for T.J. Warren. Indiana then dealt him to the Heat for their second-round selections in 2022, 2025 and 2026.

Braves Walk Off Marlins

     The Miami Marlins fell to the Atlanta Braves 1-0 at SunTrust Park on Friday night. There was no score in the contest during the eighth inning when a rain delay was called. The game was stopped for over two hours.
     Miami(32-54), who lost their fifth straight game, surrendered a run in the bottom of the ninth. Atlanta(53-36) was able to load the bases with one out. Brian McCann lined a base hit to left field and Freddie Freeman scored. It the fifth walk-off victory for the Braves this season.

Marlins Fired On By Nationals

     The Miami Marlins were defeated by the Washington Nationals 5-2 on Thursday at Nationals Park. The Fish increased their losing streak to five games. The 11:06 AM start was the earlier time ever to begin a contest in Marlins franchise history.
     Things began well for Miami(32-53) on their first at-bat of the contest. Miguel Rojas powered a lead-off home run to left-center field on a 2-2 pitch for his first homer of the season.
     In the second inning, the Marlins expanded their lead to 2-0. Rojas hit a fielder's choice to shallow center for J.T. Riddle to score.
     Washington(45-41) answered back in the bottom of the second. Kurt Suzuki walloped a solo home run to left field on a 2-2 count for his 10th homer of the campaign. The Nats have homered in a franchise-record 18th straight game.
     The same exact circumstance happened in the fourth inning. Anthony Rendon connected with his 20th home run of the season to left field on a 3-2 pitch.
     The Nationals took their first lead of the contest 3-2 in the bottom of the fifth. Rendon knocked in Gerardo Parra on a single to center field.
     It became 5-2 in the sixth inning for the Nats. Parra doubled to deep right-center field which brought in Victor Robles and Trea Turner.

Rodney McGruder Joins Clippers

     Former Miami Heat forward Rodney McGruder has signed a contract with the Los Angeles Clippers. It is a three-year deal with $15 million.
     McGruder played for the Heat over the past three seasons. He had his best campaign last season as he averaged 7.6 points and 3.6 rebounds per game in 66 games.

Bogdan Kiselevich Returns To Russia

     Former Florida Panthers defenseman Bogdan Kiselevich has left the National Hockey League and returned to Russia. He signed a three-year deal with CSKA Moscow.
     Kiselevich joined the Panthers for the 2018-19 season. He played 32 games for the clubs and had eight assists. Kiselevich was traded to the Winnipeg Jets for a 2021 seventh-round pick on February 25. He never appeared in a game for Winnipeg.

Nationals Skip By Marlins

     The Washington Nationals handled the Miami Marlins 3-1 at Nationals Park on Wednesday night. The Marlins lost their third straight contest and sixth of their last 10 games.
     In the sixth inning, Washington(44-41) took a 2-0 lead. Juan Soto lifted a two-run homer to left-center field on a 0-2 pitch and Juan Soto scored in front of him.
     The Nationals made it a three-run lead in the bottom of the eighth. Matt Adams crushed a solo home run to right-center field on a 0-1 count.
     Miami(32-52) had the bases loaded in the ninth inning when they broke the shutout. Cesar Puello was hit by a pitch and Neil Walker crossed the plate.

Florida Panthers Sign Joel Lowry

     The Florida Panthers have signed left wing Joel Lowry to a one-year deal for the National Hockey League minimum $700,000. He is the son of Dave Lowry, who played during the Panthers first five seasons from 1993-94 to 1997-98. His brother Adam Lowry is currently with the Winnipeg Jets.
     Lowry has played for the Springfield Thunderbirds, the Panthers American Hockey League affiliate, for the past two seasons. He had 10 games and 20 assists in 55 games for them in 2018-19. Lowry played college hockey from 2011-12 to 2014-15 with Cornell University.

Nationals Outlast Marlins

     The Washington Nationals held off the Miami Marlins 3-2 on Tuesday night at Nationals Park. The Nats have 12 of their last 16 contests and are 24-10 in their last 34 games.
     Both clubs scored in the first inning. Miami(32-51) got up 1-0 when Garrett Cooper singled to shallow left field which scored Miguel Rojas.
     Washington(43-41) overtook them in the bottom of the frame. Juan Soto smacked a two-run homer to right-center field on a 0-1 pitch. Park Vista High School grad Trea Turner crossed the plate before him on the play. There was a one-hour rain delay during the third inning.
     In the top of the eighth, the Marlins evened it up 2-2. Rojas hit a sacrifice fly to left field and Cesar Puello scored.
     The Nationals pulled off a walk-off victory in the ninth inning. Turner lined a double into the right-center field gap for Yan Gomes to score from first with two out.

Florida Panthers Sign Brett Connolly

     The Florida Panthers signed center Brett Connolly to a four-year, $13 million deal. The veteran player has been in the National Hockey League for eight seasons.
     Connolly recently was with the Washington Capitals for four seasons. He helped the Caps win their first Stanley Cup title in franchise history with a five-game series victory over the Vegas Golden Knights in 2018.
     He comes off his best season in the NHL. Connolly had a career-high 22 goals and 24 assists for 46 points in 81 games.

Panthers Get Anton Stralman

     Veteran defenseman Anton Stralman has signed a three-year, $16.5 million contract to join the Florida Panthers. He has played 10 seasons in the National Hockey League and compiled 47 goals and 195 assists in 749 games.
     Stralman recently was with the Tampa Bay Lightning for five seasons and helped them capture the President Trophy last season and several Atlantic Division titles. The Bolts won the 2015 Eastern Conference title, reached the Stanley Cup Final and fell to the Chicago Blackhawks in six games.
     He was with the New York Rangers for three seasons prior to that. Stralman got the Blueshirts to the Stanley Cup Final in 2014 and lost in the Stanley Cup Final against the Los Angeles Kings in five games.

Panthers Ink Noel Acciari

     The Florida Panthers signed right wing Noel Acciari to a three-year, $5 million contract on Monday. He played the last four season with the Boston Bruins.
     Acciari  helped that club to an Eastern Conference championship in 2018-19. They lost the Stanley Cup to the St. Louis Blues in seven games. Acciari compiled six goals and eight assists with the B's in 72 games last season.

Miami Heat Trade Hassan Whiteside

     The Miami Heat continued to turn over their roster on Monday. They traded center Hassan Whitehead to the Portland Trail Blazers for Maurice Harkless and Meyers Leonard. Harkless was then shipped to the Los Angeles Clippers along with a future Miami Heat first-round draft selection, which was part of a four-team deal.
     Whitehead played with the Miami Heat for the last five seasons. He participated in 324 games with the club and averaged 14.1 points and 11.9 rebounds per game. Whitehead was with the Sacramento Kings for two seasons prior to arriving in Miami.

Florida Panthers Sign Sergei Bobrovsky

     The Florida Panthers have signed goalie Sergei Bobrovsky to a seven-year, $70 million deal. He will fill the spot that the recently retired Roberto Luongo along with James Reimer had over the last couple of seasons.
     Bobrovsky played the last seven seasons with the Columbus Blue Jackets and helped them into the Stanley Cup Playoffs over the previous three seasons and four of the last five years. His best season with Columbus was in 2016-17 when he went 41-17-5 and led the National Hockey League with a 2.06 goals-against-average and a .931 save percentage. Bobrovsky had a 37-24-1 record, a career-high nine shutouts last season and guided the team to their first playoff series win in franchise history over the Presidents Cup champions the Tampa Bay Lightning.
     He was never drafted and was signed by the Philadelphia Flyers in 2010.  Bobrovsky was with the team for two seasons and then was traded to the Blue Jackets on June 22, 2012 for three draft picks.
     Bobrovsky has a 255-153-37 record with a 2.46 goals-against-average, .919 save percentage and 33 shutouts in his NHL career. He was the recipient of the Vezina Trophy on two occasions in 2012-13 and 2016-17.
