The New England Patriots dominated the Miami Dolphins 38-7 at Gillette Stadium on Sunday. It was the Fins 10th consecutive loss in New England. The division lead the Dolphins had over Patriots in the AFC East is now down to one game.
The Pats scored the only points of the first quarter. Stephen Gostkowski booted a 20-yard field goal with 5:30 to go in the first.
New England(2-2) was able to compile 21 points during the second quarter of play. Quarterback Tom Brady completed a 55-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Cordarrelle Patterson at the 12:11 mark.
Two former St. Thomas Aquinas players were involved in the Patriots next two scores. Running back James White rushed through the middle of the field and scored from 22 yards away at 7:36. Wide receiver caught a nine-yard pass in the end zone from Brady with 23 seconds left in the first half.
In the third quarter, White received a swing pass on the right side for a 14-yard score at the 6:54 mark. Running back Sony Michel, an American Heritage grad, sprinted to the left side and reached the end zone from 10 yards out early in the fourth quarter at 13:48 and gave New England a 38-point margin.
Miami(3-1) finally got on the scoreboard with 2:49 remaining in the contest. Quarterback Brock Osweiler connected a six-yard touchdown pass to running back Frank Gore.

Marlins Lose Season Finale To Mets
The Miami Marlins played their last game of the 2018 regular season and were edged by the New York Mets 1-0 at Citi Field on Sunday. The game on had the same 1-0 result just like on Saturday night, however that went 13 innings.
The Marlins were expected to play their final game in Pittsburgh against the Pirates on Monday which was a make-up contest that was postponed several weeks. It was decided earlier last week by Major League Baseball that it would not be necessary to play and it was cancelled. Miami ended up with a 63-98 record in 2018 and finished last in the National League East.

Mets Go Over Marlins
It took 13 innings for the New York Mets to top the Miami Marlins 1-0 at Citi Field on Saturday night. Both clubs will play their final games of the 2018 season on Sunday. Mets captain David Wright played in his last game of his major league career.
New York(76-85) had to wait until the bottom of the 13th inning to finally win the contest against Miami(63-97). Austin Jackson hit a double into left-center field for Michael Conforto to cross the plate and get the victory.

Panthers Fall To Lightning
The Florida Panthers played their last preseason game as they lost the Tampa Bay Lightning 3-2 at BB&T Center on Saturday night. Both clubs will meet each other for the season opener in Tampa on October 6.
Florida got out to a 1-0 lead at 11:00 of the first period. Mike Hoffman threaded a pass to Jonathan Huberdeau on the right wing. He skated into the Bolts zone on a breakaway and beat Andrei Vasilevskiy with a wrist shot through the pads.
Tampa Bay tied it up at the 12:01 mark. Roberto Luongo made the initial save on a close range shot from Danick Martel and Cory Conacher poked in the rebound from the blue paint. The Panthers had upper-body injuries to Keith Yandle and Bogdan Kiselevich and were forced to play with four defensemen for the rest of the game.
In the second period, the Lightning made a bad pass in their own zone that landed on the stick of Denis Malgin in the right circle. He was hooked from behind by Victor Hedman and the Cats had their first power play of the game.

Marlins Mangle Mets
The Miami Marlins disposed the New York Mets 8-1 at Citi Field on Friday night. It began the final three games of the season for both the Marlins and Mets.

Dwyer Dominates Olympic Heights
The Dwyer Panthers pounded the Olympic Heights Lions 62-0 on Friday night at Corey Lewis Stadium. The Panthers with the win now are tied with Forest Hill for first place in District 13 of Class 7A.
Things started off right for Dwyer(5-1, 2-0) when Deuce Dunbar ran the opening kickoff 75 yards to the Lions 15-yard line. Several plays later, running back Cedric Tucker raced around the left end and scored from four yards away at the 9:53 mark.
The Panthers then recovered an onside squib kick in good field position. Running back Ernest Blackshear finished off the drive as he pushed in with a one-yard touchdown at 5:18. Blackshear later added a touchdown run through the right side of the line from 24 yards out with 1:32 left in the first and they led 21-0.
Dwyer pulled away in the second quarter as they compiled 27 points. Running back Bobby Armes sprinted up the middle untouched for a 79-yard score at 9:00. St. Andrew's Edge Somerset Canyons
The St. Andrew's Scots visited Boynton Beach and topped the Somerset Canyons Cougars 17-13 on Friday. It was the first time that both schools faced each other in a football game.
There was not that much scoring in the contest. The only score in the first half was a 32-yard field goal by Trident Nottingham with 5:11 left in the second quarter. It gave St. Andrew's(3-2) a 3-0 lead over Somerset Canyons(2-4).

Hurricanes Cruise By North Carolina
The Miami Hurricanes easily handled the North Carolina Tar Heels 47-10 at Hard Rock Stadium on Thursday night. The Canes are looking for their second straight Coastal Division title.
North Carolina(1-3, 1-1) was able to generate a 22-yard field goal by Freeman Jones to go up 3-0 at 8:08 of the first quarter.
The rest of the quarter would be controlled by the Hurricanes. Running back DeeJay Dallas scored on a four-yard touchdown run to the left side at the 6:06 mark. They struck again with 4:41 left in the first when Jonathan Garvin returned a fumble nine yards into the end zone.
UNC capped off the opening quarter on a score with 2:18 to go. Quarterback Chazz Surratt rushed through the middle on a 17-yard touchdown run to make it 14-10.
Miami(4-1, 1-0) posted 19 points in the second quarter and had a huge 23-point margin. Bubba Baxa nailed a 35-yard field goal at 12:22. On the Tar Heels next possession, a Surratt pass was intercepted by Joe Jackson and he returned it 42 yards to the end zone with 9:09 remaining in the quarter.

The Pahokee Blue Devils made the trip across Palm Beach County and defeated the Boynton Beach Tigers 47-23 on Thursday night. It was a rare contest between both schools.

Hubbard Radio has agreed to acquire 640 The Hurricane WMEN-AM along with five other West Palm Beach radio stations from Alpha Media. WMEN began to be operated by Alpha Media in February 2016.

Nationals Sweep Marlins
The Miami Marlins were defeated by the Washington Nationals on Wednesday at Nationals Park. The Fish finish the regular season in New York against the Mets.
Washington(81-78) put up a five spot in the second inning. Spencer Kieboom barely got the ball out of the middle of the infield for a base hit with the bases loaded as Juan Soto and Ryan Zimmerman scored. A throwing error by Chad Wallach during a rundown made Adrian Sanchez come home to make it 3-0. Victor Robles came up next and fisted a single down the right-field line for Kieboom and Kyle McGowin to score.

Nationals Wallop Marlins
The Washington Nationals smashed the Miami Marlins 9-4 on Tuesday night at Nationals Park. The Fish are now 0-2 on their final road swing of the season.
Washington(80-78) jumped on the Fish in the first inning. Anthony Rendon pounded a three-run homer to left field on a 1-1 pitch. Adam Eaton and Bryce Harper both scored in front of him on the round-tripper.
Miami(62-95) tied the contest 1-1 in the top of the fourth. Brian Anderson was able to double in Miguel Rojas on a hit into deep left field.
The Nats waited until the seventh inning and added six more runs for an eight-run margin. Rendon knocked in Eaton with a double to deep right-center field. Ryan Zimmerman followed with a base hit to center which brought home Harper and Rendon. Matt Wieters drove in Juan Soto on a single into left field. Eaton then got a two-run single into shallow center as Zimmerman and Wilmer Difo crossed the plate.

Nationals Blow By Marlins
The Miami Marlins began their final road trip of the 2018 regular season and lost to the Washington Nationals 7-3 at Nationals Park on Monday night. The defeat ended the Marlins three-game winning streak.
Both clubs scored during the first inning. Miami(62-94) got on the scoreboard when Miguel Rojas doubled to left-center field for J.T. Riddle to score. The Nationals gained the lead as Anthony Rendon knocked in Adam Eaton and Bryce Harper with a double into deep left field.

Florida Panthers Release Mark Letestu
The Florida Panthers have released center Mark Letestu from his professional tryout offer. He was given the opportunity to join the Panthers preseason camp several weeks ago. Letestu recently played with the Columbus Blue Jackets and began his NHL career with the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Dolphins Evade Raiders
The Miami Dolphins handled the Oakland Raiders 28-20 at Hard Rock Stadium on Sunday. The Dolphins now lead the AFC East Division by two games over the New England Patriots, New York Jets and Buffalo Bills.
Oakland(0-3) drew first blood in the opening quarter. Quarterback Derek Carr connected a 12-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Jordy Nelson at the 13:39 mark.
Miami(3-0) made it into the end zone at 12:17 of the second. Quarterback Ryan Tannenhill found wide receiver Kenny Stills on a 34-yard touchdown toss to tie it 7-7.
The Raiders pulled ahead on a 25-yard field goal by Mike Nugent with 3:35 left in the first half. They made it a 17-7 gap as running back Marshawn Lynch blasted in from one yard out at 3:01 of the third quarter.
The Dolphins got rolling with 21 unanswered points on three touchdowns. Wide receiver Jakeem Kent caught an 18-yard touchdown from Tannenhill with 1:01 left in the third. The Fins reached the end zone again with 7:30 remaining in the fourth quarter when Albert Wilson fired a 52-yard pass to Grant for a 21-17 lead. Tannenhill later fired a 74 yard bomb to Wilson with 2:11 to go in the contest.

Hurricanes Eliminate FIU

At the start of the second quarter, quarterback N'Kosi Perry made a 26-yard pass to wide receiver Lawrence Cager in the end zone. Bubba Baxa added a 30-yard field goal at the 2:35 mark. Perry connected a pass from 12 yards away to tight end Brevin Jordan with 32 second left in the second.

Dwyer Pounds Palm Beach Gardens
The Dwyer Panthers took care of the Palm Beach Gardens Gators 42-7 on Friday night at Blum Stadium in this northern Palm Beach County rivalry. The Panthers beat the Gators for the 10th consecutive time.
Dwyer(4-1) struck quickly on the first play of the game. Gators quarterback David Studstill threw an interception on a swing pass to the left side and it was returned by defensive back Antavious Lane 23 yards for the score 14 seconds into the first quarter.
The Panthers continued to roll as they scored on their first possession. Quarterback Gio Richardson pushed through the middle from one yard out at the 7:47 mark for a 14-0 lead.
In the second quarter, they increased their margin to 21 points. Following a 41-yard pass by Richardson to wide receiver Myron Levy on the left sideline, running back Bobby Armes rushed out of the wildcat formation from four yards away for the score at 8:28.
The defense of Dwyer placed another touchdown with 1:02 left in the first half to make it 28-0. Studstill tossed a lateral pass to the left side and it was picked off by defensive back Colbein Clayton for a 31-yard touchdown.

Kevin Rolston Steps Back From Sports Show
Local radio personality Kevin Rolston has stopped co-hosting a mid-afternoon sports show on 640 The Hurricane WMEN-AM. He will still do some projects for the station and continue to co-host the morning show on sister-station WRMF-FM which he has been on since 2014.
Rolston was given the opportunity to host his own sports show on 640 The Hurricane in late February with Steve Diener and Ricky Bobby. The program did bring new life to WMEN as their ratings increased during the spring and summer.
He has been in the West Palm Beach media market for almost 20 years. Rolston was a morning co-host on WLDI-FM from 1999 to 2013 and on WFLC-FM from 2013 until May 2014.

Miami Central Beats St. Thomas Aquinas
The Miami Central Rockets defeated the St. Thomas Aquinas Raiders 43-27 at Brian Piccolo Stadium in Fort Lauderdale on Friday night. It was the first time that both schools met in a game.
Miami Central(4-1) scored the only touchdown in the first quarter. Running back Kejon Owens busted through the middle from one yard out for a 6-0 lead with 2:21 left in the first.
In the second quarter, St. Thomas Aquinas(4-1) stepped ahead 7-6. Wide receiver Marcus Rosemy caught an eight-yard pass from quarterback Curt Casteel on the left side of the end zone at the 11:24 mark.
The Rockets regained the lead when quarterback Maurice Underwood raced into the left side of the line from four yards away with 6:42 left in the second. Running back Lexington Joseph put in a two-point conversion run to go up 14-7.
STA was able to tie the contest 14-14 on their first possession of the second half. Casteel found wide receiver Jamal Cooney on the left sideline for a 30-yard strike at 10:39 of the third.
The Raiders made it 21-14 at the 6:43 mark. Running back Daniel Carter sprinted up the middle, broke one tackle and scored on a 27-yard touchdown.

Ruth Riley Hunter New Heat Radio Analyst
The Miami Heat have named Ruth Riley Hunter as their new radio game analyst. She will work this season alongside longtime radio voice Mike Inglis. She will also contribute as a television studio analyst on Sun Sports for all Miami Heat radio games.

Seminole Ridge Outscores Boynton Beach
The Seminole Ridge Hawks topped the Boynton Beach Tigers 63-35 on Thursday night. Both teams surprisingly combined for 98 points without there being a running clock during the contest.
The Hawks got ahead 7-0 at 7:39 of the first quarter. Wide receiver Karsten Costain made a crossing pattern up the middle and caught a 43-yard pass from quarterback Kalmyn Castilla.
Boynton Beach(0-4) controlled the rest of the first quarter. Quarterback Guenson Alexis threw a 30-yard pass to wide receiver Shemar Jerome on a fly pattern at the 6:50 mark to tie the game 7-7.
Alexis gave the Tigers their only lead in the contest 14-7 with 1:04 left in the first. He scrambled through the left side and scored from 13 yards away.
The second quarter belonged to Seminole Ridge(4-0) as they compiled 35 points and came back. Castilla connected a pass to wide receiver Brandon Schabert on the right hash marks from 28 yards out at 11:19.

Reds Scrap Marlins

Two defending FHSAA state champions will face each other at Vince Zappone Field on Friday night as the American Heritage Patriots take on the Chaminade-Madonna Lions. The Patriots won the Class 5A title, their fourth in the last five years. while the Lions took the Class 3A crown last season.

Panthers Handle Habs
The Florida Panthers began a long road trip as they beat the Montreal Canadiens 5-2 in a preseason game at Bell Centre on Wednesday night. Roberto Luongo saw his first action in net after he was not used in a doubleheader at home on Monday against the Nashville Predators.
Florida got a 2-0 lead in the first period on goals by Evgenii Dadonov at 4:21 and 11:07(power play). Montreal picked up a power-play goal from Matthew Peca at 13:19.
There was no scoring by the Habs and Cats in the second period. The Panthers added two goals in the third period by Jared McCann. He put in a shorthanded tally at 10:57 and had an even-strength goal exactly two minutes later.
The Habs closed the gap to 4-2 with 4:02 left in contest on a goal by Nikita Scherbak. Nick Bjugstad finished it off for the Cats as he scored into an empty net with 52 seconds remaining.

Adam Lichtenstein Joins Sun-Sentinel
Adam Lichtenstein will be joining the South Florida Sun-Sentinel on Monday as their new high school sports reporter and recruiting writer in Broward County and Palm Beach County. He takes over for David Furones, who recently became the Florida Atlantic University beat writer and Miami Heat reporter, and Wells Dusenberry, who is now the Miami Marlins beat reporter at that newspaper.
Lichtenstein was the primary high school sportswriter at the Palm Beach Post until June 2018. He was named to that position in 2015.

Marlins Fall To Nationals
The Miami Marlins lost to the Washington Nationals 4-2 on Tuesday night at Marlins Park. The defeat snapped a two-game win streak for the Fish. The Marlins have been on the losing side in eight of their last 11 games.
The Nationals gathered two runs in the second inning. Adam Eaton singled to right field for Matt Wieters to score. Trea Turner later got an infield hit for Wilmer Difo to cross the plate.
Miami(59-92) got their first run in the bottom of the frame. Peter O'Brien nailed a solo home run to left field on a 2-0 count.

Dwyane Wade Resigns With Miami Heat
The Miami Heat have signed guard Dwyane Wade to a one-year, $2.4 million contract. The Heat acquired Wade during the middle of the 2017-18 season from the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Wade was drafted by the Heat in 2003 as the fifth overall pick. He helped the franchise win three NBA championships in 2006, 2012 and 2013 along with five Eastern Conference titles.

Sal Licata Leaving WOR-AM
Former South Florida sports radio host Sal Licata will no longer continue as a fill-in evening sports host on WOR-AM in New York City. He has been on that station for the past five years.
Licata was the pregame studio host prior to the New York Yankees Radio Network on 640 Sports WMEN-AM from April 2013 to August 2013.

Nationals Blow Lead To Marlins
The Washington Nationals were defeated by the Miami Marlins 8-5 at Marlins Park on Monday night. It began the final homestand for the Fish this season. The Marlins have won three of their last ten contests.
Washington(76-75) scored first in the top of the second. Anthony Rendon was able to score on a Brian Anderson fielding error during a Spencer Kieboom at-bat.

Predators Sweep Doubleheader Over Panthers
The Nashville Predators got a doubleheader sweep as they beat the Florida Panthers 5-3 on Monday night at BB&T Center. It was the second game of a doubleheader between both teams. They have played a preseason doubleheader annually since September 2013.
Florida got on the scoreboard first with 5:01 left in the first period. A shot in the slot area was blocked by a defender's skate and Nick Bjugstad poked in the loose puck from the low slot by Pekka Rinne.
Nashville tied the contest up at 7:36 of the second period on a 5-on-3 power play. Ryan Ellis had the puck at the top of the zone and passed it to the left circle. Filip Forsberg waited and then fired a slapshot past James Reimer.
The Panthers regained the lead 2-1 with 7:54 remaining in the second. Jacob MacDonald fed a pass from the left side of the net to the slot area and Anthony Greco placed in a wrist shot from close range.
The Predators answered back quickly just 58 seconds later. Kevin Fiala connected a lead pass from the blue line to Ryan Johansen in the left circle and he snapped it a shot to tie the contest.
The Cats found themselves behind as the Preds took their first lead of the game with 4:13 to go. Fiala was able to score on assists from Dan Hamhuis and Johansen.
In the third period, Nashville gained a two-goal margin with 11:03 left. Fiala released a shot from the high slot that hit the left post. Forsberg then swept it in from the blue paint behind Sam Montebeault for his second goal of the game.
Florida pulled their goalie for an extra attacker and moved closer as they converted on a 6-on-4 power play with 47.4 seconds remaining. Dryden Hunt carried the puck around the Nashville cage and found Patrick Bajkov below the right circle for a one-time shot.

Nashville tied the contest up at 7:36 of the second period on a 5-on-3 power play. Ryan Ellis had the puck at the top of the zone and passed it to the left circle. Filip Forsberg waited and then fired a slapshot past James Reimer.
The Panthers regained the lead 2-1 with 7:54 remaining in the second. Jacob MacDonald fed a pass from the left side of the net to the slot area and Anthony Greco placed in a wrist shot from close range.
The Predators answered back quickly just 58 seconds later. Kevin Fiala connected a lead pass from the blue line to Ryan Johansen in the left circle and he snapped it a shot to tie the contest.
The Cats found themselves behind as the Preds took their first lead of the game with 4:13 to go. Fiala was able to score on assists from Dan Hamhuis and Johansen.
In the third period, Nashville gained a two-goal margin with 11:03 left. Fiala released a shot from the high slot that hit the left post. Forsberg then swept it in from the blue paint behind Sam Montebeault for his second goal of the game.
Florida pulled their goalie for an extra attacker and moved closer as they converted on a 6-on-4 power play with 47.4 seconds remaining. Dryden Hunt carried the puck around the Nashville cage and found Patrick Bajkov below the right circle for a one-time shot.
Forsberg put his third goal of the contest into an open net with 13.9 seconds to go to give the Predators the victory. Fiala compiled his fourth assist of the game on that play.
Predators Take Panthers
The Florida Panthers fell to the Nashville Predators 5-0 at BB&T Center in Sunrise on Monday. It was the first game of the annual doubleheader between both clubs. The Panthers and Predators have met in a preseason doubleheader for the last six seasons going back in 2013.

Aleksander Barkov New Panthers Captain

Marlins End Road Trip And Top Phillies
The Miami Marlins defeated the Philadelphia Phillies 6-4 at Citizens Bank Park on Sunday. The Marlins, who completed a nine-game road trip with a 2-7 record, snapped a five-game losing streak.
Philadelphia(76-72) moved out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning. Cesar Hernandez homered to right-center field on the first pitch by Marlins starting pitcher Jose Urena.
Miami(58-91) controlled the middle innings and controlled the contest. Peter O'Brien smacked a two-run homer to left-center field on a 2-1 pitch in the top of the fourth with Starlin Castro scoring in front of him. The Fish made it 3-1 in the fifth inning when Bryan Holaday doubled to right field and brought home Austin Dean.

The Miami Dolphins dropped the New York Jets 20-12 at MetLife Stadium on Sunday. The Miami Dolphins climbed to first place in the AFC East Division with the victory.

Hurricanes Weighs Down Toledo
The Miami Hurricanes knocked off the Toledo Rockets 49-24 at The Glass Bowl on Saturday. It was the second straight year the Canes faced the Rockets. They played their first game after Hurricane Irma at home and downed Toledo 52-30 in 2017.
There was only one score in the first quarter. Quarterback Malik Rosier made it a Hurricanes 7-0 lead at 8:15 as he scrambled up the middle and reached the end zone from five yards away.
In the second quarter, Miami(2-1) was able to expand their lead. Rosier rainbowed a pass to the right hash marks where wide receiver Jeff Thomas caught a 38-yard touchdown pass at the 12:27 mark. Rosier later rushed through the right side line of the line from two yards out with 2:56 left in the first half for a 21-point margin.
Toledo(1-1) scored with 37 seconds to go in the second to cut the lead. Quarterback Mitchell Guadagni had his seven-yard pass tipped to wide receiver Diontae Johnson in the middle of the end zone.
The second half started off well for the Rockets as they scored on their first possession. Running back Art Thompkins ran around the left end for a five-yard touchdown at the 10:53 mark and they were down 21-14.
The Canes answered back on their next drive and reached the end zone. Running back DeeJay Dallas sprinted up the middle untouched and scored from 19 yards away at 8:34.
The Rockets made it 28-21 with 7:39 left in the third. Guadagni connected a pass to Johnson in the middle and he avoided two tacklers on the way to a 40-yard touchdown reception.

Phillies Flip Marlins
The Philadelphia Phillies raced away from the Miami Marlins 14-2 at Citizens Bank Park on Friday night. The Marlins have lost six of their last seven games while the Phillies have won 12 of their last 35 contests.
Philadelphia(75-71) jumped to a 3-0 lead in the second inning. Aaron Altherr sailed a two-run homer over the left-field fence on a 3-2 pitch. Roman Quinn later hit a solo home run to left field on the first pitch.
The Phillies expanded their lead in the fourth to an eight-run margin. Quinn grounded into a fielder's choice to second and two runs scored on the play. Altherr came up again and pounded a three-run homer to left field on a 2-1 count to make it 8-0.
Miami(57-90) finally got on the scoreboard during the top of the sixth. J.T. Realmuto connected with a solo home run to center field on the first pitch.

Three plays later, Bobcats quarterback Michael Pratt rolled to right, threw a two-yard pass and found running back Davion Maxwell in the front of the end zone. They had a 14-0 lead just five seconds into the second quarter.
Boca Raton made it a 21-point margin on their next possession. Pratt fired a pass from 15 yards away and it was caught at the goal line by Maxwell at the 7:01 mark. The Bobcats scored on their next drive as Pratt sneaked through the middle from one yard out with 5:08 to go in the second.

American Heritage Routs Monsignor Pace
The American Heritage Stallions easily handled the Monsignor Pace Spartans 42-7 on Friday night at The Corral in Delray Beach. Both schools are contending in different classifications for the FHSAA playoffs.
Things did not start off well for Monsignor Pace(3-1) on their first possession as their quarterback Jaheem Joseph was sacked in the end zone for a safety at the 8:35 mark.
American Heritage(3-0) wide receiver Conner Hindsley caught an 11-yard pass on the right side of the end zone from quarterback Zachary Bohannon to make it 9-0 with 56 seconds left in the first quarter.
The Stallions compiled 17 points in the second quarter. Deion Small returned a punt 54 yards for a score at 11:37. Bohannon connected a 97-yard touchdown pass to Hindsley behind the defense on the right sideline with 3:22 to go in the first half.

Tony Smith New Marquette Radio Analyst
Former Miami Heat player Tony Smith has joined Marquette University as their new basketball radio game analyst. He did play four years of college basketball at Marquette.
Smith was acquired by the Miami Heat on February 22, 1996 in a trade with the Phoenix Suns. He helped the Heat make the 1995-96 NBA Playoffs. They were sweep by the Chicago Bulls 3-0 in the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals.
He was drafted by the Los Angeles Lakers in the 1990 NBA Draft. He helped the club win the 1991 Western Conference title and reach the NBA Finals against the Chicago Bulls. He stayed with the Lakers until 1995 and then signed with the Phoenix Suns. Following his one season with Miami, Smith had stints with the Charlotte Hornets, Milwaukee Bucks and Atlanta Hawks.

Blanche Ely At Deerfield Beach Preview
It is a northeast Broward County neighborhood rivalry for the McDougle Bowl as the Deerfield Beach Bucks host the Blanche Ely Tigers at Butler Stadium on Saturday night. The game between both schools was cancelled last year due to Hurricane Irma. The Bucks downed the Tigers 30-3 back in 2016.
Blanche Ely(1-2) had a tough time in their last two games. After a season opening victory over Stranahan 26-10, they lost to the Plantation Colonels 37-6 and Chaminade-Madonna Lions 38-0.
Deerfield Beach(3-0) has already played three tough opponents to start the regular season. They went to Chaminade-Madonna and defeated the defending FHSAA Class 3A champions 13-10 in the season opener. They followed that with two victories over Georgia schools Buford 19-14 and Westlake 41-16.

Marlins Lose Doubleheader To Mets
The Miami Marlins were beaten by the New York Mets 5-2 on Thursday night at Citi Bank. The Marlins lost both games of the doubleheader to the Mets.
In the second inning, Miami(57-89) moved out to a 2-0 lead. Miguel Rojas cranked a two-run homer to left field on a 2-1 pitch and Marlins starting pitcher Jeff Brigham scored in front of him.
New York(68-78) jumped over the Fish in the fifth inning. Tomas Nido nailed a solo home run to left on a 1-2 count. Four batters later, Michael Conforto lined a two-run double to right-center field which brought in Mets starting pitcher Jason Vargas and Jeff McNeil.

The New York Mets hit back-to-back homers with two out in the ninth inning to cap off a comeback and take the Miami Marlins 4-3 at Citi Field on Thursday. It was the first game of a twi-night doubleheader.
Miami(57-88) put together back-to-back home runs in the top of the second. Peter O'Brien homered to center field on a 1-1 pitch and then Isaac Galloway followed with a round-tripper to left field on a 2-1 count for a 2-0 lead.
New York(67-78) tied the game in the bottom of the second. Mets starting pitcher Steven Matz nailed a two-run homer to left field on the first pitch. Kevin Plawecki was able to score in front of him on the play.

Marlins Long Loss To Mets
A doubleheader on Wednesday was regulated to a single game as the New York Mets blasted the Miami Marlins 13-0 at Citi Field on Wednesday night. The first game was supposed to start at 4:10 PM and did not due to a weather delay. The contest did not begin until 9:45 PM., which was almost a six-hour wait. The second game was postponed and moved to Thursday for another doubleheader between both clubs to begin at 3:10 PM.

Marlins Down Mets
The Miami Marlins played in their first game in three days and topped the New York Mets 5-3 at Citi Field. The Marlins had both their contest on Sunday in Pittsburgh and their game in New York on Monday postponed due to inclement weather.
Miami(57-86) got a 2-0 lead during the top of the fourth. Lewis Brinson doubled to deep center field which scored Brian Anderson and Derek Dietrich.
New York(65-78) cut the lead down to 2-1 in the sixth inning. Michael Conforto smacked a solo home run to left-center field on a 2-0 pitch.
The Marlins got some more space in the eighth inning to go ahead 3-1. J.T. Riddle connected on a solo homer to right field on a 2-1 count.

Scott Mitchell Utah Utes Radio Analyst
Former Miami Dolphins quarterback Scott Mitchell recently joined the University of Utah Radio Network as a football game analyst. He has worked as an evening sports talk host at KSL-AM in Salt Lake City.
Mitchell was drafted by the Dolphins in the 1990 NFL Draft. He played four seasons with the Fins and is best remembered for filling in for an injured Dan Marino during the 1993 season. Mitchell signed as a free agent with the Detroit Lions in 1994 and played with that team for five seasons. His other stints in the NFL included being with the Baltimore Ravens and Cincinnati Bengals.

Dolphins Have Patience Against Titans
The Miami Dolphins had to wait several weather delays to get a 27-20 victory over the Tennessee Titans on Sunday at Hard Rock Stadium. There were two long game delays for almost a combined four hours due to lightning in the vicinity.
Tennessee(0-1) got up to a 3-0 lead at 10:23 of the first quarter. Ryan Succop converted on a 47-yard field goal.
Miami(1-0) took the lead at the 11:25 mark of the second quarter and they completed a 98-yard drive which was their longest possession since September 24, 1989. It was capped by 10-yard touchdown pass to the right sideline by quarterback Ryan Tannenhill to wide receiver Kenny Stills.
The contest was stopped with a little over a minute left in the first half. After close to a two-hour delay, play was resumed. Action was stopped again with 6:47 remaining in the third quarter and another almost two-hour delay happened.
The game started again and Titans quarterback Marcus Mariota threw an interception near midfield on the first play. The Fins finished the drive on a 27-yard field goal by Jason Sanders with 4:08 to go in the third quarter and led 10-3.
In the fourth quarter, the Titans tied the game 10-10 with 14:23 left. Running back Dion Lewis rushed in on a four-yard touchdown. Miami would score on the ensuing kickoff as Jakeem Grant ran it back 102 yards and regained the lead 17-10.
The Dolphins made it a 14-point margin at the 0:33 mark. Tannenhill connected a 75-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Kenny Stills. Tennessee answered back on a 94-yard kickoff return by Darius Jennings just 11 seconds later.

Hurricanes Dominate Savannah State
The Miami Hurricanes destroyed the Savannah State Tigers 77-0 at Hard Rock Stadium on Saturday night. It was the home opener for the Canes following a neutral-site loss last week to the LSU Tigers in Texas.
Pirates Hook Up Marlins
The Pittsburgh Pirates played a rare early Saturday afternoon home game and beat the Miami Marlins 5-1 at PNC Park. The Marlins face getting swept in the three-game series on Sunday.
In the second inning, Pittsburgh(71-71) scored first. Kevin Newman drove in Jose Osuna with a single into center field.

West Palm Beach Ratings August 2018
The West Palm Beach market did not have that much change in the new ratings among sports talk radio stations. ESPN West Palm 106.3 is not associated with any ratings information.
640 The Hurricane WMEN-AM finally failed to go upward for the first time in four months. They lost half their audience from the previous month and dropped from a 0.8 to a 0.4. Kevin's Other Show went from a program with three people co-hosting to two people co-hosting when Ricky Bobby left in early August.
1230 The Zone WBZT-AM rose from a 0.0 to a 0.1 in the month. The station is trying to find an audience and did celebrate their one-year anniversary on July 31.

Somerset Pembroke Pines Over Somerset Canyons
The Somerset Academy Pembroke Pines Panthers defeated the Somerset Academy Canyons Cougars 31-7 on Friday in Boynton Beach. Both institutions are sister schools of each other.
Somerset Academy Canyons(1-2) started off well as they scored on their third possession of the first quarter. Cougars running back A.J. Bates was able to race down the left sideline for a 13-yard touchdown with no time remaining in the first.

A longtime rivalry is renewed in Palm Beach County as the Dwyer Panthers head for Belle Glade and take on the Glades Central Raiders at Effie C. Grear Field on Friday night. Both schools have not met each other since the 2014 season when Glades Central won at Dwyer 12-7.
The Raiders were victorious in six straight games over the Panthers from 2006 to 2011. The Panthers won the two season opener games in 2012 and 2013.
Dwyer(1-1) has been on both sides of the spectrum this season. They blanked Park Vista 40-0 in their home opener then lost to Atlantic 30-13 in Delray Beach last week.

Others to get an occasional carry can be running backs Ernest Blackshear, Bobby Armes, Cedric Tucker and Reggie Gadsen. David Furones Promoted At Sun-Sentinel
David Furones has been promoted from the Broward County high school sports reporter spot at the South Florida Sun-Sentinel. He will replace Shandel Richardson and work alongside Ira Winderman covering the Miami Heat for that newspaper. He will also cover the Florida Atlantic University athletic program.
Furones previously worked as a high school sports reporter at the Miami Herald. He joined the South Florida Sun-Sentinel in the summer of 2016 to cover high school sports.

Miami Ratings August 2018
All three sports talk radio stations in the Miami/Fort Lauderdale market lost some audience in the market. Miami Sports Radio 560 WQAM-AM was on top of all of the local competitors for the second straight period.
WQAM slipped from a 0.9 to a 0.8 during the month. It was a surprise that the station got no traction with the start of Miami Dolphins training camp along with preseason games.
Sports Talk 790 The Ticket WAXY-AM went down for the third consecutive month from a 0.7 to a 0.6 in August. The weekday lineup has remained intact for the past 12 months. It was the worst ratings for the station since August 2016.
Miami Sports 940 WINZ-AM had a drop after registering a 0.3 in the previous five months and fell to a 0.2 in August. Andy Slater no longer handled the mid-afternoon shift during the period and was replaced by one extra hour of Rich Eisen and Colin Cowherd from Fox Sports Radio.

Marc James New WEEI Saturday Host
Marc James has added duties as a Saturday sports talk co-host on WEEI-FM in Boston. He has filled in as a co-host on weekday programs there over the past year. James has been a sports anchor on NESN since May 2017.
James, who previously went by the name Marc Bernarzyk, was one time a sports talk host in South Florida. He joined 1400 The Fan WFLL-AM as an midday host in April 2004. He was elevated to the afternoon shift in 2005 and took over for Bob Page. James replaced Anita Marks to become the morning host in early 2006 and had that position until June 2006 when the station flipped from a sports talk format.

He first started locally earlier this decade as a high school sports reporter for the South Florida Sun-Sentinel. Chiang then went to the Palm Beach Post in the middle of 2013 as their lead high school sportswriter. He was promoted to write about the Miami Heat in 2015.

Kelley Bydlon Heads To Las Vegas
Kelley Bydlon joined Vegas Stats and Information Network, a.k.a. VSIN, in Las Vegas on Monday as a producer. He recently left his position as a sports producer at WPTV-TV Channel 5 in West Palm Beach.
Bydlon first got into broadcasting as an intern at ESPN Radio 760 WEFL-AM in 2009. He was later elevated to a producer role. Bydlon shifted to ESPN West Palm 106.3 WUUB-FM in February 2013 when Good Karma Broadcasting moved their English sports talk format from an AM frequency to a FM frequency.

Phillies Pile On Marlins
The Philadelphia Phillies handled the Miami Marlins 9-4 on Tuesday night at Marlins Park. The Marlins have lost six of their last eight games. The Phillies have prevailed in three of their previous six games.
Philadelphia(73-65) pounced on the lead early. Carlos Santana blasted a leadoff solo home run into the upper deck on right field in the first inning for his 21st homer of the year. The Phils loaded the bases which led to a three-run triple by Cesar Hernandez to the right-field wall. Odubel Herrera, Wilson Ramos and Nick Williams all scored on the play to make it 4-0.
Miami(55-84) began to chop at the lead in the bottom of the first. J.T. Realmuto ripped a solo homer to right-center field on a 2-1 count.
The Phillies continued their scoring in the second inning. Asdrubal Cabrera doubled into deep right field which brought in Santana and Rhys Hoskins.
Cabrera remained an obstacle to the Fish as he has all season with the Mets and now with the Phillies. He connected with a solo home run to right field on a 1-1 count during the top of the fourth.
Both clubs were able to score in the fifth inning. Philadelphia had Jeff Kingery cross the plate on a Santana ground out to first.
The Marlins placed two runs to cut the deficit to 8-3. Starlin Castro knocked in Austin Dean with a base hit into center field. Rafael Ortega would later score on a ground out to first by Derek Dietrich.

Jason Taylor Returns To Westwood One
Jason Taylor returns to Westwood One as a game analyst for NFL games on Sunday nights. It will be the second straight season he will work alongside play-by-play announcer Kevin Kugler. Taylor is currently a defensive coach for the St. Thomas Aquinas Raiders high school football team.
Taylor played 15 seasons in the NFL and had three stints with the Miami Dolphins. He compiled 139.5 sacks which is seventh all-time in NFL history. Taylor was elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2017.

Shandel Richardson will be leaving the South Florida Sun-Sentinel on September. He will joining The Athletic Miami as their new Miami Heat beat writer.

Marlins Ease By Phillies
The Miami Marlins got by the Philadelphia Phillies 3-1 at Marlins Park on Monday. Justin Bour made his return to South Florida after being traded by the Marlins to the Phillies on August 10.
Philadelphia(72-65) walked out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the second. Asdrubal Cabrera hit a solo home run to right field on a 0-2 pitch for his 22nd homer of the season.
Miami(55-83) answered back in the bottom of the frame. Lewis Brinson singled to center field and brought home Derek Dietrich. Three batters later, Rafael Ortega knocked in Brinson and Austin Dean with a single into left field.

Hurricanes Fall To LSU
The Miami Hurricanes opened up their 2018 regular season and lost to LSU Tigers 33-17 at AT&T Stadium in Dallas on Sunday night. The Hurricanes have lost four consecutive games going back to last season. The last time these two schools met was at the 2005 Peach Bowl which the Tigers won 40-3.
LSU(1-0) got on the scoreboard first. Cole Tracy converted on a 43-yard field goal at the 8:26 mark.
Miami(0-1) was able to tie the contest with 6:49 left in the first. Bubba Baxa kicked a 38-yard field goal.
The Tigers regained the lead 10-3 with 35 seconds remaining in the quarter. Running back Nick Brossette went off-left tackle and raced up the middle of the field 50 yards untouched to reach the end zone for a touchdown.
In the second quarter, LSU scored on their first possession. Brossette rushed through the left side of the line and scored from one yard away at 9:21 for a 14-point margin. Tracy would add a 21-yard field goal at 4:56 to make it 20-3.
The Hurricanes next drive ended up badly. Quarterback Malik Rosier threw an interception up the middle and linebacker Jacob Phillips returned it 45 yards for a score with 4:21 left in the second.
The second half had the Tigers expand their lead to 30-3 on their second possession as Tracy kicked a 21-yard field goal at 7:32. He added a 54-yard field goal off the crossbar at the 3:51 mark.
The Canes finally reached the end zone with 13:57 remaining in the fourth quarter. Rosier faked a handoff to running back Travis Homer and sprinted through the middle for a three-yard touchdown run.
Miami rumbled down the field on their next possession. Wide receiver Brian Hightower made his first career catch with a 32-yard touchdown reception on the left side of the end zone from Rosier at 8:43 and the Canes were down 33-17.

Marlins Drop Blue Jays
The Miami Marlins defeated the Toronto Blue Jays 6-3 on Saturday night at Marlins Park. Both teams will play the final game of the series on Sunday.
The Marlins picked up their first run in the opening inning. Brian Anderson hit a sacrifice fly to right field for J.T. Riddle to score. J.T. Realmuto added a solo home run to center field on a 2-2 pitch during the third to make it 2-0.
Toronto(61-74) got on the scoreboard in the top of the fourth. Randall Grichuk popped a sacrifice fly to left which scored Devon Travis.
Miami(54-82) placed four runs in the fifth inning to move ahead 6-1. Anderson walked with the bases loaded and it brought home Wei-Yin Chen. Prado followed and cleared the bases with a three-run double to deep right-center field. Riddle, Realmuto and Anderson all were able to score on the play.
