Marlins Contain Phillies

     The Miami Marlins took care of the Philadelphia Phillies 8-4 at Marlins Park on Monday night. The Marlins continue to roll as they have been victorious in five of their last six games.
     Philadelphia(16-12) started off the second inning with two runs. Jorge Alfaro smashed a two-run homer to center field on the first pitch. Maikel Franco was able to score in front of him on the play.
     Miami(10-18) responded with one run in the bottom of the frame. Cameron Maybin scored when Lewis Brinson grounded out to short and made it 2-1.
     The Marlins would compile four runs in the bottom of the third and did not surrender the lead again. Derek Dietrich doubled into right-center field which brought in Martin Prado. Brian Anderson followed and knocked in Starlin Castro and Dietrich with a double to right field. Anderson eventually scored on a ground out by Miguel Rojas to third and gave the Fish a 5-2 margin.
     The Phillies closed the gap to 5-4 in the top of the fourth inning. Franco ripped a two-run home run to left field and Scott Kingery crossed the plate.
     Castro answered back with a double to left and knocked in J.T. Realmuto in the bottom of the fourth. In the seventh inning, Anderson powered a two-run homer to center field on a 1-2 count.

Steve Goldstein Working Kentucky Derby

     Steve Goldstein will be part of the radio broadcast of the Kentucky Derby on Westwood One as a paddock reporter. The Kentucky Derby will be held on May 5 at Churchill Downs in Louisville.
     Goldstein has been the Florida Panthers television play-by-play announcer on Fox Sports Florida since the 2007-08 season. He was the radio play-by-play announcer with the club for two years prior to that. Goldstein held the post as radio studio host for the Florida Panthers radio broadcasts for seven seasons from 1996-97 until 2003-04.
     He currently does work on local television with WFOR-TV Channel 4 as a sports anchor and news anchor. Goldstein had two previous stints as a sports talk host on 560 WQAM-AM.

Jason Pugh Returns To West Palm Beach

     Jason Pugh returned as a fill-in sports anchor on WPTV-TV Channel 5 and WFLX-TV Channel 29 in West Palm Beach last month. He is filling in while their main sports anchor Keli Ferguson is out on maternity leave.
     Pugh, a Florida Atlantic University grad, first got into broadcasting as an intern with ESPN Radio 760 WEFL-AM in 2003. He became a producer in 2006 and an on-air contributor in 2007. He was promoted to evening co-host with Jeremy Marks-Peltz in 2010 and also announced high school football games as a game analyst with Ken LaVicka and Marks-Peltz through 2011. Pugh was elevated to a game analyst role for Florida Atlantic University football games and held that spot until the end of the 2012 season.
     He added duties as a sports anchor at WPTV and WFLX in the early 2010s. He left both of his West Palm Beach positions in radio and television in December 2012.
     Pugh joined WRC-TV in Washington D.C. as a sports anchor and sports reporter in December 2012. He would stay in that role until December 2016.

Marlins Fly Over Rockies

     The Miami Marlins blanked the Colorado Rockies 3-0 on Sunday at Marlins Park. The Fish have won four of their last five games. Colorado(15-14) will continue their nine-game road trip with stops in Chicago and New York.
     In the second inning, Miami(9-18) would get on the scoreboard. Lewis Brinson faced Chad Bettis and drove in Brian Anderson with a base hit into right field.
     The Marlins made it 2-0 in the bottom of the fourth. Miguel Rojas came up with two out and smacked a solo home run to left field on the first pitch.
     The Fish extended the gap to 3-0 in the eighth inning. Starlin Castro delivered a sacrifice fly to right field for Bryan Holaday to score. Marlins starting pitcher Caleb Smith went seven innings, struck out nine and gave up no runs on two hits for the victory.

Dolphins Finish NFL Draft

     The Miami Dolphins made their final selections at the 2018 NFL Draft held in Arlington, Texas. Rounds three through seven were held for the third day of the draft.
     The Dolphins selected Notre Dame tight end Durham Smythe and Arizona State running back Kalen Ballage in the fourth round. The club had no picks in the fifth round.
     Miami went with cornerback Cornell Armstrong from Southern Mississippi in the sixth round. For the seventh round the Fins choose Ohio linebacker Quentin Poling followed by New Mexico kicker Jason Sanders.

Marlins Top Rockies

     The Miami Marlins stopped the Colorado Rockies 4-1 at Marlins Park on Saturday night. The Marlins have won three of the last four games.
     Miami(8-18) took a 1-0 lead in the first inning. J.T. Realmuto crossed the plate when Martin Prado grounded into a fielder's choice. Prado knocked in Starlin Castro with a double to right field in the third inning to give the Fish a 2-0 lead.
     The Marlins expanded to a three-run margin in the bottom of the fourth. Derek Dietrich singled into right field for Lewis Brinson to score.
     Colorado(15-13) picked up their lone run during the top of the sixth. Charlie Blackmon hit a solo home run to right field on a 2-1 count.
      In the seventh inning, Miami made it 4-1. Dietrich lifted a solo homer to right on a 1-1 pitch.

2018 NFL Draft Concludes

     The final day of the 2018 NFL Draft happened on Saturday at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. Several players from the University of Miami were announced.
     Hurricanes tight end Chris Herndon was taken by the New York Jets in the fourth round. Running back Mark Walton was selected by the Cincinnati Bengals during the fourth round. Walton won three FHSAA Class 4A state championships with the Booker T. Washington Tornadoes in 2012, 2013 and 2014.
     Florida wide receiver Antonio Callaway was picked by the Cleveland Browns in the fourth round. He was a teammate of Walton at Booker T. Washington and helped the school capture three consecutive Class 4A state titles from 2012 to 2014.
     The fifth round began with the New York Giants taking University of Miami defensive tackle R.J. McIntosh. He played high school football with the Cardinal Gibbons Chiefs. In the sixth round, the New England selected Hurricanes wide receiver Braxton Berrios. Miami defensive tackle Kendrick Norton was taken by the Carolina Panthers in the seventh round.

More Locals Picked In NFL Draft

     Several more former South Florida high school football players were choosen in the second day of the 2018 NFL Draft held in Arlington.
     University of Miami defensive end Chad Thomas was picked up by the Cleveland Browns during the second round with the 67th overall selection. Thomas went to Booker T. Washington and helped the Tornadoes win two FHSAA Class 4A state championship in 2012 and 2013.
     University of Central Florida wide receiver Tre'Quan Smith was selected by the Minnesota Vikings in the third round and 91st overall. He played high school football with the Village Academy Tigers in Delray Beach.

Miami Dolphins Day Two Selections

     Day Two of the 2018 NFL Draft at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas brought the Miami Dolphins more needs to fill on their roster. The second day comprised of second round and third round selections.
     The Dolphins choose Penn State tight end Mike Gesicki in the second round with the 42nd overall pick. The Fins in the third round went with Ohio State outside linebacker Jerome Baker on the 73rd overall selection.

Rockies Squeeze By Marlins

     The Colorado Rockies got by the Miami Marlins 1-0 at Marlins Park on Friday night. Miami(7-18) played their first home game following a nine-game road trip that concluded in Los Angeles against the Dodgers on Wednesday.
     The only run of the contest occurred in the fifth inning by Colorado(15-12). Antonio Senzatela knocked in Geraldo Parra with a double into left field.

Miami Dolphins Select Minkah Fitzpatrick

     The Miami Dolphins selected University of Alabama safety Minkah Fitzpatrick with the 11th overall pick in the first round of the 2018 NFL Draft on Thursday night. The event was held at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
     Fitzpatrick had a tremendous impact while in college football. He helped the Crimson Tide win two College Football Playoff National Championship in 2015 and 2017. The school also made the title game in 2016. He won the Chuck Bednarik Award and Jim Thorpe Award in 2017.

Locals Picked In NFL Draft First Round

     Several former local high school football players were selected in the first round of the 2018 NFL Draft on Thursday night. The event was held at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. 
     University of Alabama wide receiver Calvin Ridley was picked by the Atlanta Falcons with the 26th overall pick. He played the past three seasons with the Crimson Tide and helped the school win the two College Football Playoff National Championships in 2015 and 2017. Ridley played with the Monarch Knights while in high school. He scored on a touchdown reception against the Piper Bengals in his final play with the school in 2014.
     University of Georgia running back Sony Michel was selected by the defending AFC Champion New England Patriots with the 31st overall pick in the draft. He was with the Bulldogs for the last four years. Michel played high school football with the American Heritage Patriots in Plantation. He helped them win the FHSAA Class 5A state title in 2013.
     Quarterback Lamar Jackson was chosen by the Baltimore Ravens as the 32nd overall selection. He won the Heisman Trophy in 2016 with the University of Louisville Cardinals. Jackson led the Boynton Beach Tigers to consecutive FHSAA playoff appearances in 2013 and 2014.

Marlins Escape Kershaw and Dodgers

     The Miami Marlins finished a nine-game road trip as they surprised the Los Angeles Dodgers 8-6 at Dodger Stadium on Wednesday. It was the first time that Clayton Kershaw pitched against the Marlins since September 9, 2016 when he opposed Jose Fernandez. Marlins starting pitcher Trevor Richards struck out 10 batters and allowed one hit in 4 2/3 innings.
     Miami(7-17), who won consecutive games for the first time this season, had a great chance to score in the fourth inning. The Marlins loaded the bases with no out, however Kershaw would get out of the jam unscathed.
     The Marlins got some production with a two-out rally in the top of the fifth. Justin Bour and Cameron Maybin both walked. Miguel Rojas then connected on the first pitch and lifted a three-run homer that bounced off the left-field foul pole for a 3-0 lead. Kershaw pitched five innings and gave up three runs, five hits along with a career-tying six walks.
     In the sixth inning, the Fish were able to expand their margin to 4-0. J.T. Realmuto blasted a solo home run to left-center field on a 3-2 pitch with two out against Daniel Hudson.
     Los Angeles(11-12) broke the shutout in the bottom of the sixth facing Merandy Gonzalez. Corey Seager scored on a two-out single by Joc Pederson into right field.
     J.B. Schuck led off the eighth inning with a single to center. After Derek Dietrich reached base on a fielder's choice, Realmuto hit his second home run of the contest to open up a 6-1 gap for Miami. He smashed a two-run homer to left field on a 2-1 count versus Scott Alexander for his fourth round-tripper of the season.
     The Dodgers cut the deficit to 6-3 in the bottom of the frame. Cody Bellinger was able to beat the shift with a double into left field with two outs. Matt Kemp came up and cracked a two-run homer to center field on a 2-1 pitch.
     A combination of bad fielding by the Dodgers in the top of the ninth gave the Marlins another two runs. Dietrich reached first on a throwing error by Chase Utley with two out for Rojas and Schuck to cross the plate.
     Kike Hernandez began the ninth for Los Angeles when a line drive went by Lewis Brinson to the center-field fence for a triple. He would then score on a ground out by pinch-hitter Kyle Farmer to short. Later in the frame, Seager picked up a two-out single into left field and Yasmani Grandal followed with a two-run homer to right field on a 2-1 count. to make it 8-6.

ESPN West Palm New Lineup

     ESPN West Palm 106.3 WUUB-FM has announced that they will soon adjust their weekday lineup. The new schedule will be implemented on May 1.
     Evan Cohen has his program cut from two hours to one hour and will work the 5 p.m. hour without any commercials. Cohen has worked as the afternoon host at ESPN West Palm and before that their original local station ESPN Radio 760 WEFL-AM since the mid 2000s. He also currently is the morning co-host at Mad Dog Radio on SiriusXM Radio.
     Josh Cohen and The Home Team moves from the midday shift of 10 a.m. until Noon to an afternoon drive shift from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. His program has been in middays since January 2014. Cohen joined the station as a weekend host in February 2013 and became the evening host in September 2013.
     The Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz will be on live from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. instead of on tape delay like it has for the past three years. Stephen A. Smith from ESPN Radio will be piped into ESPN West Palm from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Marlins Take Dodgers

     Pitching dominated as the Miami Marlins dropped the Los Angeles Dodgers 3-2 on Tuesday night at Dodger Stadium. The Fish snapped a five-game losing streak with the victory.
     Matt Kemp led off the bottom of the second for Los Angeles(11-11) versus Dillon Peters with a double into deep left field. Austin Barnes followed and doubled to right field which score Kemp. Peters pitched for 5 1/3 innings and surrendered one run on four hits.
     In the third inning, Miami(6-17) answered back quickly to tie the game 1-1. J.T. Realmuto came up to the plate against Kenta Maeda with two out and connected on the first pitch for a solo home run to right-center field. Maeda went six innings, struck out seven and allowed one run on four hits.
     The Dodgers were able to load the bases in the seventh inning. They regained the lead when Chase Utley walked to score Joc Pederson.
     The Marlins responded in the next inning to pull even again. Starlin Castro ripped a double through the left side of the field for Derek Dietrich to advance from second and score.
     It was the same for Miami in the top of the ninth as they took the lead for the first time in the contest. Brian Anderson got a lead-off base hit into left field. Cameron Maybin then lined a double to the left-field fence and Anderson crossed the plate.

Heat Eliminated By 76ers

     The 2017-18 season came to an end for the Miami Heat as their playoff run was stopped. They fell to the Philadelphia 76ers 104-91 in Game 5 at Wells Fargo Center on Tuesday night.
     The Sixers won their first playoff series since 2012. It was the first time that the Heat were eliminated in the first round of the playoffs since 2010. Tony Fiorentino announced his final game as the Miami Heat television game analyst after 15 seasons.
     Philadelphia had a 23-21 edge after one quarter and were tied with Miami 46-46 at the half. The 76ers began the second half on a 20-8 run to make it 66-54 with 6:11 left in the third quarter. The Heat trailed 80-66 after the third and they scored 10 straight points to cut the deficit to 87-79 with 5:58 remaining in the fourth.
     Goran Dragic had 15 points for Miami and Tyler Johnson added 16. Kyle Olynyk put together 18 points, eight rebounds and seven assists while Dwyane Wade contributed 11 points. Justice Winslow chalked up 12 points with seven rebounds.
     Joel Embiid compiled a double-double of 19 points along with 12 rebounds for the Sixers. Ben Simmons had 14 points, 10 rebounds and six assists while J.J. Redick dropped in a game-high 27 points.

Dodgers Beat Marlins

     The Miami Marlins continued their nine-game road trip as they were defeated by the defending National League champion Los Angeles Dodgers 2-1 at Dodger Stadium on Monday night. The Marlins have lost five straight games and eight of their last nine. Dodgers pitcher Walker Buehler made his first major league start and allowed no runs on four hits in five innings.
     In the fourth inning, Los Angeles(11-10) moved out to a 1-0 lead. Kike Hernandez faced Jarlin Garcia and lifted a solo home run to left field on a 3-2 count with none out. It was the only run Garcia surrendered as he gave up four hits and struck out seven batters in six innings.
     Miami(5-17) had to wait until the eight inning to tie the contest 1-1. Brian Anderson knocked in Starlin Castro from second with a one-out base hit up the middle of the diamond.
     The Dodgers regained the lead in the bottom of the frame. Chris Taylor led off with a double to deep left field. Three batters later, Cody Bellinger lined a sacrifice fly to right field for Taylor to cross the plate with the go-ahead run.

Brewers Sweep Marlins

     The Milwaukee Brewers completed a four-game sweep with a 4-2 victory over the Miami Marlins on Sunday at Miller Park. The Marlins have lost seven of their last eight games and 14 of their last 17.
     Miami(5-16) took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Justin Bour knocked in J.T. Realmuto with a double into deep right field.
     Former Marlin Christian Yelich helped Milwaukee(14-9) take the lead in the fourth inning. He smashed a two-run homer to center field on a 2-1 pitch. Lorenzo Cain was able to score in front of him.
     The Brewers made it 3-1 in the bottom of the seventh. Travis Shaw scored on a fielding error by Bour.
     The Marlins cut the deficit to 3-2 in the top of the eighth inning. Bour singled to right field which scored Realmuto.
     Milwaukee answered back in the bottom of the eighth. Jesus Aguilar drove in Cain with a base hit into left field.

76ers Slip By Heat

     The Miami Heat fell short to the Philadelphia 76ers 106-102 in Game 4 on Saturday at American Airlines Arena. The 76ers moved the best-of-seven series to 3-1 and can wrap it up in Philadelphia on Tuesday night.
     Miami scored the final seven points of the first quarter and were tied with the Sixers 26-26. The Heat got their largest lead of the first half 61-52 with one minute left in the second quarter and stayed in front by halftime 61-56. The pace slowed down and Philadelphia trailed 83-79 after three quarters.
     The Sixers began the fourth quarter outscoring the Heat with a 13-2 run to regain the lead. They extended their margin to 97-90 with 4:05 remaining. Miami pulled to within one point 102-101 with 43.9 seconds to go and never got closer again.
     Dwyane Wade dropped in a game-high 25 points for Miami and Goran Dragic contributed 20 points. Hassan Whiteside chalked up a double-double with 13 points and 13 rebounds. James Johnson got 15 points and eight rebounds for the Heat.
     Ben Simmons became the youngest player in NBA history to compile a triple-double with 17 points, 13 rebounds and 10 assists. Joel Embiid of the 76ers put together a double-double of 14 points and 12 rebounds. J.J. Redick powered in a team-high 24 points and Dario Saric had 11.

Barkov And Luongo NHL Award Finalists

     The Florida Panthers have two players that were named the last three finalists for two National Hockey League awards during the 2017-18 season. The NHL awards will be presented in Las Vegas on June 20.
     Panthers center Aleksander Barkov was named a finalist for the Lady Byng Memorial Award for best conduct along with playing ability. Panthers goalie Roberto Luongo was chosen as a finalist for the Bill Masterston Memorial Award for perseverance, sportsmanship and dedication to hockey.
     There have been several occasions in which a member of the Panthers club have won an individual annual NHL award. Jaromir Jagr was named the Bill Masterton Memorial Award winner in 2015-16. Pavel Bure won the Maurice Rocket Richard Trophy as the top goal scorer for two seasons in 1999-2000 and 2001-02.

Brewers Jump On Marlins Again

     The Milwaukee Brewers breezed by the Miami Marlins 8-0 at Miller Park on Friday night. It was the second straight game that the Fish were easily handled by the Brew Crew. Miami lost to them on Thursday night 12-3.
     The Brewers took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Lorenzo Cain crossed the plate on a bases-loaded walk by Eric Thames against Marlins starting pitcher Trevor Richards.
     Milwaukee(12-9) went on a two-out rally in the fourth inning and increased their margin to 6-0. Cain walked and then scored on a triple by former Marlin Christian Yelich to deep right-center field. Ryan Braun came up next and smashed the first pitch over the left-field fence for his fifth home run of the season. Travis Shaw followed him and he blasted a solo home run on a 0-0 count to right-center field. Thames eventually made it a six-run gap when he scored on a wild pitch.
     In the sixth inning, Miami(5-14) gave up another two runs. Yelich scored on a base hit by Shaw into left field. Three batters later, Orlando Arcia singled up the middle for Braun to score.

Miami Dolphins 2018 Schedule Released

     The National Football League announced the release of all 32 team schedules on Thursday night. The Miami Dolphins have a schedule that will comprise of two games against AFC East teams, one game against AFC South clubs, one game versus NFC North teams and one game against third-place squads in other AFC divisions. Miami had their opening game postponed and had to play 16 consecutive weeks without a week off last season.
     The Dolphins host the Tennessee Titans in week 1. then travel north to face the New York Jets in week 2, followed by a home game against the Oakland Raiders in week 3. Miami play their next two games on the road against the New England Patriots in week 4 and the Cincinnati Bengals in week 5.
     The Fins come back home and face the Chicago Bears in week 6 and the Detroit Lions in week 7. They play at Houston against the Texans in week 8, host the New York Jets in week 9 and fly to face the Green Bay Packers in week 10. The club was given a bye for week 11.
     They face the Colts in Indianapolis in week 12. The Dolphins play their next two games in Miami as they take on the Buffalo Bills in week 13 and the New England Patriots in week 14. The Fins play two of their last three games on the road. They challenge the Vikings in Minnesota for week 15, host the Jacksonville Jaguars in week 16 and travel to face the Buffalo Bills in week 17.

Heat Fall To Sixers

     The Miami Heat hosted Game 3 of the first round at American Airlines Arena and lost to the Philadelphia 76ers 128-108 on Thursday night. The Sixers now have a 2-1 lead in the best-of-seven series. 76ers center Joel Embiid played in his first playoff game of his career.
     It was an explosive high-scoring first quarter as Philadelphia had a 37-33 advantage. Miami bounced back and had a 64-63 lead at halftime. The contest remained close as the Sixers were up 96-94 after three quarters. The 76ers went on a 9-1 spurt to begin the fourth and never surrendered the lead again.
     The Heat were led by Goran Dragic as he had a game-high 23 points and eight assists. Justice Winslow contributed a double-double with 19 points and 10 rebounds while Josh Richardson added 14. Embiid had 23 points and seven rebounds for Philadelphia while Marco Belinelli drained in 21 points. Ben Simmons fell short of a triple-double with 19 points, 12 rebounds and seven assists.

Palm Beach Post Dave George Retires

     Longtime Palm Beach Post sports columnist Dave George retired on Thursday. He was part of their sports department for the past 40 years and had a clear grasp of all South Florida athletics along with national sporting events and sports issues. His final assignment for the Palm Beach Post was the Miami Heat playing against the Philadelphia 76ers in Game 3 of the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals on Thursday night.
     George was always constantly at work getting the story. He would be noticed especially in the press box when it was at a major South Florida sporting event or when one of the local professional teams were involved in any playoff game. Unlike many sports writers in his profession over the past two decades, George rarely did any interview segments on television and radio.

West Palm Beach Ratings March 2018

     It was the end of the spring period for sports format radio stations in the West Palm Beach region. Two of the three competitors in the local market had an adjustment in their weekday lineup.
     640 The Hurricane WMEN-AM went from a 0.3 to a 0.1 in March. The Florida Panthers were still in contention for a playoff spot. It was also the first full month that their only local weekday program called Kevin's Other Show was on. It consists of WRMF-FM morning co-host Kevin Rolston along with on-air sidekicks Steve Diener and Ricky Bobby.
     1230 The Zone WBZT-AM remained at a 0.0 for the seventh straight month. The station has had a tough time to find an audience since they flipped to a sports talk format in late July 2017. They station does have the Jeff DeForest Show piped in from Miami for mornings.
     ESPN West Palm 106.3 WUUB-FM gave longtime Saturday morning host Jordan Sherwood an opportunity to host his own Monday evening show in early March. The Miami Heat were in a favorable position down the stretch to make the NBA Playoffs.

Marlins Fight Off Yankees

     The Miami Marlins split a two-game series with a 9-1 win over the New York Yankees at Yankee Stadium on Tuesday night. The Fish, who snapped a three-game losing streak, have Wednesday off and face the Brewers in Milwaukee this weekend.
     Miami(5-12) jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning. Former Yankee Starlin Castro knocked in Derek Dietrich with a single into left field. J.T. Realmuto made his season debut and hit a ball to short. Didi Gregorius made a fielding error for Miguel Rojas and Castro to score.
     Cameron Maybin crossed the plate in the second inning when Dietrich got a base hit into shallow center field for a 4-0 gap.
     The Marlins gained a seven-run margin in the top of the fifth. Realmuto smashed a three-run homer to right field on a 3-1 pitch. Castro and Justin Bour were able to score in front of him on the play.
     The Fish added two more runs in the eighth inning to make it 9-0. Tomas Telis singled to deep right field to bring in Realmuto. Maybin followed with a sacrifice fly to right that scored Brian Anderson.
     In the ninth inning, New York(8-8) finally broke the shutout. Miguel Andujar smacked a solo home run to left field on a 0-1 count with two out.

Miami Ratings March 2018

     Sports Talk 790 The Ticket WAXY-AM finished on top of all sports talk radio stations in the Miami/Fort Lauderdale region for the third consecutive month. All three competitors seemed to remain the same.
     The Ticket remained at a 0.9 for the third straight monthly period. The Miami Heat continued to roll and were on the way to an Eastern Conference playoff spot for the first time in two years.
     Miami Sports Radio 560 WQAM-AM stayed at a 0.8 for the third consecutive period in March. The University of Miami Hurricanes basketball team had a poor showing in the NCAA Basketball Tournament and the Florida Panthers were still on the outside for a playoff position.
     Miami Sports 940 WINZ-AM rose from a 0.2 to a 0.3 during March. The Andy Slater Show was not on the air for over three weeks due to Miami Marlins spring training weekday broadcasts.

Heat Even Up 76ers

     The Miami Heat tied the best-of-seven series as they took Game 2 with a 113-103 victory over the Philadelphia 76ers at Wells Fargo Center on Monday night. Both teams will face each other in Miami on Thursday night for Game 3. The Sixers had not lost a game since March 13.
     Philadelphia stormed out to a 29-22 lead after one quarter. Miami battled back and outscored the 76ers 34-13 in the second to pull ahead 56-42 at halftime. The Heat stayed on top 86-75 after three quarters. The Sixers went on 19-5 run to close the gap to two points, however they were unable to take the lead.
     Dwyane Wade led the way for Miami with 28 points along with seven rebounds. Goran Dragic added 20 points while James Johnson popped in 18 points. Ben Simmons had a team-high 24 points, eight assists and nine rebounds for the 76ers. Dario Saric fell short of a double-double with 23 points and nine rebounds.

Stanton And Yankees Stomp Marlins

     The Miami Marlins began a road trip and were dominated by the New York Yankees 12-1 at Yankee Stadium on Monday night. Giancarlo Stanton played against the Marlins for the first time since he was traded to the Yankees during the off-season.
     The Fish played 12 of their first 15 games of the regular season at home in Miami. The Yanks played only one of a possible three games over the weekend in Detroit against the Tigers.
     New York(8-7) struck first in the opening inning against Caleb Smith and loaded the bases with one out. Gary Sanchez hit a ball deep in the hole on the left side for Brett Gardner to cross the plate. Two batters later, Tyler Austin walked to bring home Aaron Judge.
     The Bronx Bombers extended their margin in the bottom of the second. Aaron Judge smashed a 2-1 pitch for a home run to right field with two out.
     The Yankees made it a five-run gap in the third inning. Aaron Hicks doubled into left-center field which brought in Didi Gregorius and Sanchez.
      Miami(4-12) surrendered another couple of runs in the bottom of the fourth inning on a two-out rally. Stanton was hit by a pitch and Gregorius followed with a two-run homer to right field to make it 7-0.
     The Yanks scored for the fifth consecutive inning with four runs and had an 11-0 lead. Miguel Andujar doubled to deep left to score Austin. Several batters later, Judge had a RBI-single to left  which scored Andujar. Sanchez singled into center field to bring home Ronald Torreyes and Gardner.
     In the seventh inning, Gregorius homered for the second time in the contest. This time it was a solo home run to right-center field on a 2-1 count.
     The Marlins would get the bases loaded in the top of the eighth. Justin Bour reached base on a fielder's choice and Bryan Holaday crossed the plate to break the shutout.

Pirates Escape Marlins

     The Miami Marlins lost to the Pittsburgh Pirates 7-3 on Sunday at Marlins Park. It completed a stretch where the Marlins played 12 of their first 15 games of the regular season at home.
     It began fine for Miami(4-11) as they got the first run. Brian Anderson grounded out to third for J.B. Schuck to score.
     Pittsburgh(11-4) roared back with three runs in the top of the third. Josh Bell doubled to right field which brought in Adam Frazier and Starling Marte. Bell eventually scored on a Corey Dickerson single to right field. A Rocco Cervelli sacrifice fly to center in the fifth inning scored Marte to make it 4-1.
     In the seventh inning, the Bucs extended their margin. Bell drove in Gregory Polanco with a single into right-center field. Dickerson later brought in Marte with a sacrifice fly to right and increased the Pirates lead to 6-1.
     The Marlins did get some production in the bottom of the frame. Pinch-hitter Justin Bour smashed a two-run homer to right and Cameron Maybin scored in front of him on the play.
     Marte completed his 5-for-5 day at the plate in the top of the ninth inning. He laced a home run over the left-field fence on a 1-0 pitch.

76ers Rock Heat

     The 2017-18 NBA Playoffs began for the Miami Heat and they were defeated by the Philadelphia 76ers 130-103 at Wells Fargo Center on Saturday night. It was the first appearance by the Heat in the postseason since 2016.
     Miami had a 35-29 advantage after the first quarter and stayed ahead 60-56 at halftime. The second half belonged to the Sixers as they outscored the Heat 34-18 in the third to go up 90-78. Philadelphia remained in front by double digits for the remainder of the game.
     Kelly Olynyk had 26 points while Goran Dragic added 15 points. James Johnson poured in 13 points while Dwyane Wade dropped in 11. Ben Simmons fell short of triple-double for the 76ers with 17 points, 14 assists and nine rebounds. J.J. Redick had a game-high 28 points and Marco Belinelli scored 25 points.

Pirates Edge Marlins

     The Pittsburgh Pirates blanked the Miami Marlins 1-0 on Saturday night at Marlins Park. Miami(4-10) have lost eight of their last ten games. 
     There was no scoring in the contest until the ninth inning. Pittsburgh(10-4) got the only tally when Corey Dickerson drove in Starling Marte with an infield single to second. 

Marlins Strike Pirates

     The Miami Marlins got a 7-2 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates at Marlins Park on Friday night. The Marlins were able to snap a three-game losing streak.
     Miami(4-9) scored the first run in the bottom of the second. J.B. Schuck crossed the plate when Chad Kuhl threw a wild pitch.
     Pittburgh(9-4) took the lead in the top of the fifth inning. Elias Diaz socked a two-run homer to left field with Corey Dickenson scoring in front of him. It would be their only runs of the contest.
     The Marlins answered back in the bottom of the frame. Starlin Castro knocked in Dillon Peters with a sacrifice fly to right field. Derek Dietrich and Miguel Rojas would later score on a throwing error by Diaz.
     The Fish put up three more runs in the next two innings. Chad Wallach drove in Schuck on a sacrifice fly to shallow right field in the sixth. Justin Bour blasted a two-run homer to right field on a 2-1 count in the seventh inning to score Castro and make it 7-2.

Dan Sileo Change In San Diego

     Dan Sileo has been promoted from the midday post to the morning shift at KEGY-FM in San Diego. He joined that station in March after a stint at XETRA-AM as the morning host from February 2014 until December 2017.
     Sileo had two short stints in the South Florida radio market prior to arriving in San Diego. He became the afternoon host at Sports Radio 560 WQAM-AM in April 2012 and was moved to the midday shift in September 2012. He was let go by that organization in March 2013. Sileo landed at 640 Sports WMEN-AM in August 2013 as a midday host and was gone by November 2013.

Mets Stop Marlins To Extend Win Streak

     The New York Mets extended their winning streak to eight games with a 4-1 victory over the Miami Marlins at Marlins Park on Wednesday night. Marlins starting pitcher Jarlin Garcia had a no-hitter when he was pulled from the game after six innings.
     The only scoring early in the contest was done by Miami(3-9) during the bottom of the first. Miguel Rojas nailed a solo home run to left field on a 2-0 pitch against Mets starting pitcher Zack Wheeler.
     New York(10-1) rallied with a four-run outburst in the eighth inning. Pinch-hitter Adrian Gonzalez singled into center field to bring home Kevin Plawecki and Michael Conforto with one out. Two batters later, Wilmer Flores socked a ball to deep left-center for a double which scored Gonzalez. After Yoenis Cespedes was intentionally walked, Todd Frazier knocked in Flores with a sacrifice fly to center.

Heat Down Raptors In Season Finale

     The Miami Heat played their final game of the 2017-18 regular season as they beat the Toronto Raptors 116-109 on Wednesday night at American Airlines Arena. The Heat already clinched a playoff spot last week and will play their opening game in the first round on the road against the Philadelphia 76ers. The Raptors captured the Atlantic Division title earlier last week and are the top seed in the Eastern Conference.
     Miami(44-38) gave up the first five points of the contest and then went on a 9-3 spurt. Toronto(59-23) led 29-27 after the first quarter and were up 53-47 at halftime. The Heat trailed 78-71 after three quarters and the game was tied 105-105 to end regulation. Miami outscored Toronto 11-4 in overtime for the win.
     Wayne Ellington came off the bench for Miami and had a game-high 32 points. Seven other players for the Heat scored at least 10 points in the contest. Kyle Lowry fell short of a triple-double for the Raptors with 28 points, 10 rebounds and nine assists.

Panthers Take Season Finale Over Bruins

     The Florida Panthers finished the 2017-18 regular season with a 4-2 win over the Boston Bruins at TD Garden back on Sunday night. It was a make-up game due to the postponement of a contest back in early January. The Bruins loss gave the Tampa Bay Lightning the Atlantic Division title.
     The Panthers ended the season with 96 points. It was one point behind the New Jersey Devils for the final Eastern Conference playoff spot.
     Things started off right for Florida(44-30-8) as newcomer Henrik Borgstrom scored his first NHL goal 1:22 into the opening period. David Backes tied it for Boston(50-20-12) at the 8:18 mark with his 14th goal of the campaign. Frank Vatrano burned his former team on a tally with 3:14 left in the first for a Cats 2-1 lead.
     The Panthers scored the only goal in the second period. Maxim Mamin helped Florida extend the margin with 6:27 remaining.
     In the third period, the B's would convert on the power play midway through the stanza at 9:54. David Pastrnak compiled his 35th goal of the season for the Bruins.
     Florida put the game out of reach with 1:49 to go in regulation to make it 4-2. Evgenii Dadonov swept in a backhand shot from the top of the crease by Tuukka Rask.

Mets Outscore Marlins

     The New York Mets won their seventh straight game as they stopped the Miami Marlins 8-6 on Tuesday night at Marlins Park. The Fish played the second game of a six-game home stand. The 9-1 beginning for the Mets is the best start in franchise history.
     In the first inning, New York(9-1) jumped up to a 1-0 lead. Wilmer Flores knocked in Michael Conforto with a double into deep left field. Asdrubal Cabrera made it 2-0 on a solo home run to left field during the top of the second.
     The Mets increased it to a three-run contest in the fifth inning. After Amed Rosario reached base on a single, he scored on a single by Conforto to left.
     Miami(3-8) overcame the deficit in the bottom of the frame and moved ahead 4-3. Miguel Rojas singled to shallow left-center field to bring home Rivera. Starlin Castro followed with a sacrifice fly to right which scored Derek Dietrich. Justin Bour came up next and blasted a two-run homer to left field and Rojas scored in front of him.
     It would be a tie game in the sixth inning. Juan Lagares drove in Todd Frazier with a sacrifice fly to center and made it 4-4.
     The Fish regained the lead in the bottom of the seventh inning. Bour connected with another two-run home run on the first pitch. Dietrich scored the go-ahead run on the play.
     The Marlins advantage would not last long as New York tied it again 6-6 in the top of the eighth. Flores hit a solo homer to left-center field on a 0-1 count. Two batters later, Cabrera smashed his second home run of the game with a towering shot into the upper deck in right field.
     Yoenis Cespedes got the game-winning hit with a double into left field in the ninth inning. Rosario and Conforto were able to cross the plate and gave the Mets an 8-6 lead.

Mets Roll By Marlins

     The Miami Marlins fell to the New York Mets 4-2 at Marlins Park on Monday night. The Mets have won six consecutive games and are off to their best start in franchise history. The Marlins are in a stretch in which they play 12 of their first 15 games of regular season at home.
     New York(8-1) compiled two runs in the second inning against Marlins starting pitcher Jose Urena. Adrian Gonzalez sliced a single down the right-field line to score Todd Frazier. Asdrubal Cabrera cross the plate when Kevin Plawecki grounded into a double play.
     The Mets made it a three-run margin in the third. Jay Bruce got a base hit up the middle into center field for Amed Rosario to score.
     Miami(3-7) got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the fifth inning. Derek Dietrich knocked in Brian Anderson with a base hit to left field.
     The Marlins cut the gap to 3-2 in the sixth as Anderson powered a double to left field and drove in Starlin Castro.
     In the seventh inning, New York extended their lead to 4-2. Rosario hit the ball into shallow left-center field and Gonzalez scored.

Thunder Swipe Heat

     The Oklahoma City Thunder visited Miami on Monday night and defeated the Heat 115-93 at American Airlines Arena. The Heat have one more game left in the regular season.
     Miami(43-38) moved out to a 27-21 lead after one quarter and were up 52-49 at halftime. The Heat had a 81-76 advantage after three quarters. Oklahoma City(47-34) outscored Miami 39-12 in the final quarter to take the victory.
     Paul George led the Thunder with 27 points while Russell Westbrook compiled a triple-double of 23 points, 18 rebounds and 13 assists. Josh Richardson had a team-high 18 points and Hassan Whiteside dropped in 16.

Phillies Dominate Marlins

     The Philadelphia Phillies routed the Miami Marlins 20-1 on Saturday night at Citizens Bank Park. It was the second road game for the Fish and the second home game for the Phils this season.
     Both clubs combined for an explosive first inning. Miami(2-6) made it 1-0 when Derek Dietrich scored on a throwing error by a Jorge Alfaro throwing error.
     Philadelphia(3-4) answered quickly in the bottom of the frame. Cesar Hernandez walked, Carlos Santana singled to right field and Scott Kingery got a base hit into right to load the bases. Rhys Hoskins walked to score Hernandez. Two batters later, Maikel Franco blasted a grand-slam home run to left-center field on a 2-2 pitch to give the Phillies a 5-1 lead.
     The Phillies put the game away in the third inning to make it 9-1. Marlins starting pitcher Dillon Peters surrendered another grand-slam homer on a 1-2 count to Aaron Altherr.

Panthers Eliminated And Beat Sabres

     The Florida Panthers topped the Buffalo Sabres 4-3 at BB&T Center on Saturday night. The club learned earlier in the day that they were eliminated from playoff contention when the Philadelphia Flyers won their game with a shutout over the New York Rangers. The Panthers conclude their regular season in Boston against the Bruins in a make-up game on Sunday.
     Florida(43-30-8) took out their frustration during the first period as they scored three times in the first 14 minutes of the contest. Jonathan Huberdeau scored on the power play for his 27th goal of the season at 3:04. Assists were made by Vincent Trocheck and Aaron Ekblad on the play.
     The Cats made it 2-0 on a tally by Colton Sceviour at the 10:59 mark. Nick Bjugstad increased the gap to a three-goal margin with his 19th goal of the campaign at 13:39 on assists from Evgenii Dadonov and Jared McCann.
     After no goals in the second period and the first half of the third period, Buffalo(25-45-12) was able to close the deficit. Jason Pominville scored with 4:30 left and Sam Reinhart added a tally with 4:09 to go in the third and they trailed 3-2.
     The Cats looked like they put the game out of reach with 1:23 remaining as Vincent Trocheck shot the puck into an empty net for his 31st goal. The Sabres ended the contest with a power-play goal by Ryan O'Reilly with 17 seconds left on the clock.

Knicks Smash Heat

     The New York Knicks pounded the Miami Heat 122-98 at Madison Square Garden on Friday night. The Heat already clinched a playoff spot on Tuesday and remain in first place for the Southeast Division. 
     New York(28-51) rallied out to a 34-23 lead after one quarter and stayed in front 63-50 at halftime. Miami(43-37) still trailed 96-78 after the third quarter and were down by double digits for almost the entire second half.
     The Heat were led by Goran Dragic with 15 points and Hassan Whiteside with 14 points. Damyean Dotson had a game-high 30 points along with 11 rebounds for the Knicks. Trey Burke and Luke Kornet both contributed 17 while Tim Hardaway Jr. added 15 points.

Panthers Stay Alive Against Bruins

     Roberto Luongo played in his 1,000th NHL game as the Florida Panthers survived the Boston Bruins 3-2 on Thursday night on BB&T Center. He joined Martin Brodeur and Patrick Roy as the only goalies to reach that milestone. Luongo became the 322nd player to play in 1,000 games in the National Hockey League.
     Florida(42-30-8) roared out with two goals in the first ten minutes of the contest. Aleksander Barkov scored his 27th goal of the season at 7:42 on assists from Evgenii Dadonov and Aaron Ekblad. Former Bruin Frank Vatrano made it 2-0 at the 9:34 mark on a feed by Nick Bjugstad.
     Boston(49-19-12) was able to bounce back and converted on a power play with 4:41 left in the first. Ryan Donato put in his fifth goal of the campaign. Torey Krug and Andrew Marchand were credited with assists on the play.
     In the second period, the Bruins struck quickly at 2:11 to tie the contest 2-2. Danton Heinen was able to connect on a shot by Luongo with assists from David Krejci and Jake DeBrusk.
     After Aleksander Barkov left the game because of an injury with seven minutes to go in the period, the Panthers vindicated him on a goal with 5:37 remaining. Colton Sceviour sent the puck back to Mike Matheson at the left point. His wrist shot was deflected in by Jared McCann in the low slot past Tuukka Rask.
     There is one more playoff spot still available in the Eastern Conference for the second wild-card position. Florida is four points behind the Philadelphia Flyers with two games left in the regular season.

Phillies Jump On Marlins

     The Philadelphia Phillies played their home opener and blanked the Miami Marlins 5-0 at Citizens Bank Park on Thursday. The Marlins participated in their first road game of the regular season. The Phillies last won an opening day home game in 2012. 
     Philadelphia(2-4) got to Marlins starting pitcher Caleb Smith and loaded the bases in the first inning. Maikel Franco slapped a base hit into left field to score Cesar Hernandez and Rhys Hoskins.
     The Phillies make it a three-run margin during the bottom of the third. Scott Kingery crossed the plate when Odubel Herrera singled to center field.
      Miami(2-5) fell behind more in the seventh inning. Herrera singled to right-center field with one out. Franco followed him and blasted a two-run homer to left field on a 2-1 pitch from Jarlin Garcia. 

Roberto Luongo Hits Milestone Game

     Florida Panthers goalie Roberto Luongo will play in his 1,000th game in the National Hockey League on Thursday night as they take on the Boston Bruins at BB&T Center. He joins Martin Brodeur and Patrick Roy as the only goalies to reach that milestone.
     Luongo will become the 322nd player to appear in 1,000 NHL games. Ten previous players have played their 1,000th game in a Florida Panthers uniform.

Heat Hold Off Hawks

     The Miami Heat wrapped up an Eastern Conference playoff spot with a 101-98 victory over the Atlanta Hawks at American Airlines Arena on Tuesday night. The Heat return to the postseason for the first time since 2016. They finished tied for eighth place in the conference last season, however they lost the tiebreaker to the Chicago Bulls. The Hawks had the worst record in the Eastern Conference entering this contest.
     Miami(42-36) had a 30-25 advantage after one quarter and found themselves behind Atlanta(22-56) at halftime 56-52. Both clubs were tied at 78-78 after three quarters, then the Heat outscored the Hawks 23-20 in the final frame.

Panthers Shock Predators

     The defending Western Conference champion Nashville Predators visited BB&T Center in Sunrise on Tuesday night and were surprised by the Florida Panthers 2-1. The Cats, who played at home on consecutive nights, are four points behind the Philadelphia Flyers for the second wild-card position in the Eastern Conference. The Predators entered this game with the best record in the National Hockey League.
     Florida(41-30-8) scored with 1:30 left in the first period to move ahead 1-0. Jamie McGinn had the puck in the low right circle and made a centering pass. Jonathan Huberdeau redirected it from the blue paint for his 26th goal of the season.
     After a scoreless second period, Nashville(51-18-11) surrendered a tally with 9:27 remaining in the third. Evgenii Dadonov made a backhand drop pass from behind the Predators cage and Colton Sceviour flicked in a shot from the left of the crease past Pekka Rinne.
     The Predators broke the shutout with 3:52 to go in regulation. Roman Josi skated from the left circle to into the slot area and backhanded a high shot by Roberto Luongo.

Red Sox Outlast Marlins

     The Miami Marlins played the final game of a six-game home stand and were defeated by the Boston Red Sox 4-2 in 13 innings on Tuesday night at Marlins Park. The Fish have a day off and visit Philadelphia for their first road game of the regular season against the Phillies on Thursday.
     Andrew Benintendi began the first inning for Boston(5-1) with a one-out walk against Marlins starting pitcher Jose Urena and then stole second. After Hanley Ramirez flew out to deep left field, J.D. Martinez singled to center which scored Benintendi.
      In the fourth inning, Miami(2-4) got to tie the contest 1-1. Brian Anderson singled to right field with two out against Red Sox starting pitcher Chris Sale. Justin Bour came up and knocked in Anderson with a double to right-center field.
     The game would go into extra innings. The Red Sox broke the tie during the top of the 11th inning as they faced Odrisamer Despaigne. Eduardo Nunez was able to double into deep left field and then cross the plate on a base hit by Benintendi to right field.
     The Marlins answered back in the bottom of the 11th with a two-out rally against Matt Barnes. Anderson and Bour both walked to get on base. Cameron Maybin doubled to left field and Anderson scored, however Bour was tagged out at home when trying to get the game-winning run.
     It would be decided in the 13th inning for Boston. Mookie Betts lined a base hit into center field with one out and Benintendi was intentionally walked. Ramirez made his former team pay as he ripped a double to left-center for Betts and Benintendi and gave the Red Sox a two-run margin.

Red Sox Top Marlins

     The Miami Marlins continued to face tough competition at home this week as they lost to the Boston Red Sox 7-3 at Marlins Park on Monday night. It was a rare appearance for the Red Sox in South Florida during the regular season. The Marlins finish their six-game home stand on Tuesday. 
     Miami(2-3) got on the scoreboard first in the bottom of the third. Brian Anderson smacked a solo home run to right field on a 2-0 pitch from Red Sox starting pitcher Brian Johnson. It was the first homer in the majors for Anderson in his two-season career.
     In the fourth inning, Boston(4-1) was able to compile three runs against Marlins starting pitcher Trevor Richards and took the lead with a two-out rally. Xander Bogaerts reached base with an infield single to short. Eduardo Nunez doubled into left field for Bogaerts to score and tie the contest. After Jackie Bradley Jr. walked, Christian Vazquez doubled into left which got Nunez and Bradley across the plate.
     The Red Sox added two more runs in the top of the fifth. Andrew Benintendi reached first base on a one-out infield hit to second. Former Marlin player Hanley Ramirez blasted a two-run homer to left field on a 1-1 pitch for a four-run margin.
     The Marlins fell behind even more in the seventh inning. Mookie Betts lifted a solo shot over the left-field fence on a 1-2 pitch against Chris O'Grady.
     In the eighth inning, the Fish picked up a run to make it 6-2. Cameron Maybin lined a base hit into right-center field to score Starlin Castro.
     Both teams generated one more run in the ninth.  The BoSox increased their lead to 7-2 on a double by Devers to right-center field which brought in Ramirez. Miami matched it when Castro drove in Tomas Telis with a ground out to first. 

Panthers Survive Hurricanes

     The Florida Panthers got by the Carolina Hurricanes 3-2 on Monday night at BB&T Center. It was the first game of a four-game home stand for the Cats. The Panthers now trail the New Jersey Devils by five points for the final Eastern Conference playoff spot.
     Both clubs slugged it out during the first couple of minutes of the first period as they exchanged goals. Carolina(35-34-11) scored first at the 3:47 mark go ahead 1-0. The Canes peppered the Panthers cage with several close-range shots by Justin Williams and Brock McGinn which Roberto Luongo. Trevor van Riemsdyk charged in through the right circle for a rebound and scored on a snap shot.
     It took just 16 seconds for Florida(40-30-8) to tie the contest up. Denis Malgin advanced the puck into the Hurricanes zone as passed off to Jared McCann. He made a drop pass to MacKenzie Weegar in the right circle and he scored his second goal of the year on a wrist shot by Scott Darling.
     The Panthers would get their first lead 2-1 while on the power play with 9.1 seconds left in the period. Aleksander Barkov sent a lead pass to Vincent Trocheck in the right circle. His centering pass went to Evgenii Dadonov in the low slot and he scored his 27th goal of the season.
     The Hurricanes made it 2-2 with 6:12 remaining in the second period. Klas Dahlbeck connected a long pass from his own defensive zone to Lee Stempniak at the Panthers blue zone. He angled the puck ahead to Derek Ryan who was alone in the slot area and he put in a forehand shot.
     In the third period, the Cats regained the lead 3-2 with 7:58 to go. Barkov sent the puck from the low right circle back to Alexander Petrovic at the right point. His shot went through traffic and found the back of the Canes net for his second tally of the campaign.

Marlins Shut Out Cubs

     The Miami Marlins blanked the Chicago Cubs 6-0 at Marlins Park on Sunday. The Fish were able to split the four-game series with the Cubbies. Marlins starting pitcher Dillon Peters went six inning for the victory
     Miami(2-2) piled on five runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. Chad Wallach knocked in Carmeron Maybin with a base hit to right field. Two batters later, Derek Dietrich sliced a ball to right which scored Wallach. Brian Anderson would then clear the bases with a triple into the right-center field gap to make it 5-0.
     Chicago(2-2) surrendered one more run in the sixth inning. Yadier Rivera scored from third on a wild pitch by Cubs starting pitcher Carlos Quintana with pinch-hitter Tomas Telis at-bat.
