Former Miami Dolphins wide receiver and special teams player Ted Ginn Jr. signed a one-year contract with the Chicago Bears. He was with the Dolphins during his first three seasons in the NFL from 2007 to 2009.
Ginn Jr. has played with several other different organizations over the past 13 years. They included the San Francisco 49ers, Carolina Panthers, Arizona Cardinals and New Orleans Saints.

Miami Dolphins Waive Taco Charlton
Defensive end Taco Charlton was waived by the Miami Dolphins on Thursday. He has played three seasons in the National Football League.
Charlton was picked up off waivers from the Dallas Cowboys in September 2019. He had a team-leading five sacks along with 14 solo tackles in 10 games with the Dolphins last season.

Dolphins Acquire More Undrafted Free Agents
The Miami Dolphins announced on Wednesday that they added players to their team. They signed several more undrafted free agents.
It includes McKendree wide receiver Matt Cole, Pitt linebacker Kylan Johson, Arkansas State wide receiver Kirk Merritt, Northwestern State offensive tackle Jonathan Hubbard, Iowa State defensive lineman Ray Lima, South Carolina center Donell Stanley, Middle Tennessee defensive lineman Tyshun Render and Montana State defensive lineman Bryce Sterk. The team did pick up undrafted free agents Ole Miss defensive tackle Benito Jones and Kansas State offensive lineman Nick Kaltmayer on Sunday.
Buffalo Bills Ink Bryan Cox Jr.
The Buffalo Bills have signed former South Florida high school football player Bryan Cox Jr. His father Bryan Cox played linebacker for the Miami Dolphins from 1991 until 1995.
Cox Jr. played high school football with the St. Thomas Aquinas Raiders. The school won FHSAA Class 7A state championships in 2010 and 2012 while he was there. He then attended the University of Florida.
He spent the first 2 1/2 seasons of his NFL career with the Carolina Panthers. Cox Jr. finished the 2019 season as a defensive end with the Cleveland Browns and compiled nine solo tackles in six games.

Former Dolphins Picked Up On Waivers
The Miami Dolphins placed four different players on waivers Sunday. Two of them were picked up on Tuesday. They were running back Sarnaje Perine and safety Montre Hartage.
The Cincinnati Bengals were able to Perine. He split his time in 2019 between the Bengals and Dolphins. Perine played in six contests with Cincinnati which was mainly on the special teams unit. He then got in one game with Miami and compiled five carries for 16 yards.

Scott Kaplan Back On San Diego Radio
Former Miami radio sportscaster is returning to the radio airwaves in San Diego. He is expected to host an afternoon show at XEPRS-AM sometime this summer.
He lost his position as an afternoon co-host with Billy Ray Smith at XEPRS-AM in April 2019 when the radio station changed their format. He has hosted a video podcast on YouTube since then.
Kaplan, a Coral Springs High School and University of Pittsburgh grad, particpated as a kicker on two levels of football. He entered the broadcasting business as a sports anchor on Sports Radio 560 WQAM-AM back in the late 1990s.
He joined CBS Sportsline.com and eventually co-hosted a morning sports show with Sid Rosenberg in Fort Lauderdale. The program was relocated to WNEW-FM in New York City at the turn of the century.

Dolphins Waive Players

Jeff Thomas Joins New England Patriots
University of Miami Hurricanes wide receiver Jeff Thomas has joined the New England Patriots as an undrafted free agent. His fellow college teammate defensive lineman Trevon Hill has also been picked up by that club.
Thomas played three seasons with the Canes. He helped the school win the ACC Coastal Division in 2017. Thomas played 34 games in three years as he compiled 83 receptions for 1,319 yards and eight touchdowns.

Dolphins Land Kavon Frazier
The Miami Dolphins kept busy following the 2020 NFL Draft. In addition to getting some undrafted free agents, they signed NFL free agent safety and special teams player Kavon Frazier.

Miami Dolphins Acquires Matt Breida
The Miami Dolphins acquired running back Matt Breida from the San Francisco 49ers for the 153rd overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft on Saturday. He played the first three seasons of his NFL career with the 49ers.
Breida contributed to San Francisco winning the 2019 NFC champion and playing in Super Bowl LIV against the Kansas City Chiefs. He compiled 1,702 rushing yards on 381 carries and 561 receiving yards for 10 total touchdowns in the past three years.

Local College Players In NFL Draft Final Day
Many South Florida college football players were picked on the final day of the 2020 NFL Draft on Saturday. It consisted of athletes selected from the fourth round to the seventh round. At the end of the third-day completion of the entire draft, eight former South Florida high school players and seven local college players had their names announced.
Florida Atlantic University tight end Harrison Bryant was chosen by the Cleveland Browns in the fourth round with the 115th pick. He was the first player in the 2020 NFL Draft to be taken from a South Florida college.
Florida International University followed later in the round as quarterback James Morgan was selected by the New York Jets at 125th overall. He played just two seasons with the Panthers and was previously with Bowling Green University.

Locals Taken In Second And Third Round
Several former South Florida high school football players were picked in the second and third round of the 2020 NFL Draft on Friday night.
Linebacker Josh Uche was picked during the second round at 60th overall by the New England Patriots He played high school football in Dade County with the Columbus Explorers and went to the University of Michigan.
In the third round, the Buffalo Bills selected University of Utah running back Zack Moss wiht the 86th overall pick. He was with Mater Academy in his first three years in high school football. Moss played his senior year in 2015 with the Hallandale Chargers and helped them upset the two-time defending FHSAA Class 5A state champions American Heritage in the regional semifinal.

The Miami Dolphins make three picks in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft on Thursday night. They had more selections in the opening round than any other National Football League club.

Linebacker Trent Harris has agreed to stay with the Miami Dolphins. It was an exclusive rights free agent tender. Harris was put on waivers by the New England Patriots and picked up by the Fins on September 1, 2019.

Paul Mason Leaving WMEN
Paul Mason is leaving his position as program director at Fox Sports 640 South Florida WMEN-AM and 850 WFTL-AM in West Palm Beach. He is taking over as the program director for WGFX-AM in Nashville on May 1.
Mason became the program director of all Alpha Media West Palm Beach radio stations, which included WMEN and WFTL, in March 2017. He continued to hold those duties when Hubbard Radio bought the cluster from Alpha Media.
He was the assistant program director at WLW-AM in Cincinnati for six years from April 2011 until March 2017 prior to arriving in South Florida. Mason also was an evening executive producer at that radio station from January 2007 to April 2011.

Larry Blustein Launches Website
Longtime high school football recruiting reporter Larry Blustein has launched his own website Larry Blustein.com on April 13. It will have profiles of Florida high school football players and prospects that are being recruited. He recently finished a long stint as a lead writer of South Florida High School Sports.com earlier this month along with hosting a weekly high school sports show on 560 The Joe WQAM-AM.

FHSAA Cancels Spring Sports Season
The Florida High School Athletic Association announced on Saturday that the spring sports season has been cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic. None of the high school sports athletes will got additional eligibility.
The FHSAA made their decision based on the ruling by Florida Governor Ron DeSantis to keep all high school campuses closed. There will also be no spring high football practices, which were to begin on April 27, and Spring Jamboree high school football games in May.

Former 560 WQAM-AM program director Ryan Maguire has joined digital audio company SpokenLayer in New York City. He is currently based in Seattle.
Maguire was the program director at WQAM from May 2015 to February 2018. He left for Seattle to work as the director of news and programming at KIRO-FM in March 2018 and stayed there until August 2019.
He had been associated as a program director at several radio stations in the United States prior to arriving in South Florida. They included WQSN-AM(Kalamazoo), WLBY-AM(Ann Arbor), WTKA-AM(Ann Arbor), WSSP-AM(Milwaukee), KCSP-AM(Kansas City) and KDKA-FM(Pittsburgh).

Lamar Jackson On Madden Video Game Cover
Former local high school football player Lamar Jackson appears on the front cover of the Madden 21 NFL video game. Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes was on the cover last season and ended up winning the Super Bowl.
Jackson has been the quarterback of the Baltimore Ravens for the past two seasons. He was given the National Football League Most Valuable Player award in 2019.

West Palm Beach Ratings March 2020
The ratings were issued for sports talk format radio stations in the West Palm Beach region. The time period is from just prior to Leap Day to the final week of March. Florida Panthers May Sign Artyom Sergevey
The Florida Panthers may sign defenseman Artyom Sergevey to a deal in the future, according to Sports Express. His contract with Salavat Yulaev Ufa of the Kontinental Hockey League expires on May 1.
Sergevey has played in the KHL for the last five seasons. He participated with Salavat Yulaev Ufa for the past two seasons and compiled eight goals along with 21 points in 110 games. Sergevey was in the Tampa Bay Lightning minor league system from 2013 to 2015.

Dolphins Waive Gerald Willis
The Miami Dolphins waived six different players from their team on Saturday. Defensive lineman Gerald Willis is the most recognized one of the bunch. They also put linebacker Jake Carlock, linebacker Jamal Davis, wide receiver Andy Jones, cornerback Linden Stephens and wide receiver Terry Wright on waivers.
Willis, who went to the University of Florida and University of Miami, played two games with the Dolphins last season. He had two tackles in those contests. Davis was in three games while Stephens participated in three games and made three solo tackles for the Fins in 2019.

Joe Colella Back On Radio
Former local sportscaster Joe Colella returned back to the radio airwaves this weekend. He was a guest of the Coach Kokell Show with Chris Kokell on Fox Sports 640 South Florida WMEN-AM.
Both Colella and Kokell once worked together at ESPN West Palm 106.3 WUUB-FM. They co-hosted an evening program from January 2017 until that summer. Kokell exited and went back to coaching high school football.
Colella continued on the evening shift at ESPN West Palm with fill-in co-hosts Mike Mreczko and Nolan Murphy through October 2017. He left the radio industry and got involved in content marketing.
He was a part of what is now known as Good Karma Brands in West Palm Beach for 14 years. Colella began as an intern at ESPN Radio 760 WEFL-AM in 2003. It led to him becoming a producer and on-air talent.

The Miami/Fort Lauderdale region saw the release of the monthly ratings for sports format radio stations. The time frame was from prior to Leap Day until the final week of March.
The shocking effect of the coronavirus pandemic impacted how all local radio stations covered sports. North American professional sports leagues suspended all of their games by March 11.
560 The Joe WQAM-AM remained at a 0.7 and took first place in the market for the eighth consecutive month. They ended a three-month trend of being down. The Florida Panthers were not in a top-eight playoff position in the Eastern Conference when the NHL season was suspended while the University of Miami basketball team completed a below-average campaign.
Sports Talk 790 The Ticket WAXY-AM moved down from a 0.7 to a 0.6 in the period. They were tied with their sister-station WQAM in the prior period and fell to second place. It was the second straight month that they had a downward trend and it's unusual considering that the Miami Heat were constantly fourth in the Eastern Conference prior to the NBA season being suspended.

Kris Versteeg Retires
Former Florida Panthers right wing Kris Versteeg announced his retirement on Tuesday after an 11-year NHL career. He won two Stanley Cup titles with the Chicago Blackhawks in 2010 and 2015.
Versteeg was acquired by the Florida Panthers from the Philadelphia Flyers on July 1, 2011. He helped the Panthers franchise win their first division title in 2011-12 as they captured the Southeast Division. They fell to the New Jersey Devils in seven games during the first round of the Stanley Cup playoffs.
He had his best National Hockey League campaign in 2011-12 with a career-high 23 goals and 54 points that season. Versteeg was traded to the Blackhawks in November 2013.

Jesse Agler Adds San Diego Radio Show
Former local sportscaster Jesse Agler was recently named as the new evening host at KWFN-FM in San Diego. He hosts the one-hour Padres Social Hour there and on Radio.com. Agler did host that same program on the internet in 2014 and 2015.
Agler, a Spanish River High School and University of Miami grad, began broadcasting locally at 560 WQAM-AM as a sports anchor and later was elevated to morning sports anchor. He was named the Florida Panthers Radio Network studio host prior to the start of the 2005-06 National Hockey League season. Agler also added duties as the studio host of the Florida Marlins Radio Network.
He lost both positions when the radio rights were acquired by Sports Talk 790 The Ticket WAXY-AM. Agler jumped over to The Ticket and worked as a weekend sports anchor for several months. He returned back to WQAM as a sports anchor and became the studio host of the Miami Hurricanes Radio Network for a couple of years.
Agler landed at Clear Channel Miami in early 2010 as the morning sports anchor at News Radio 610 WIOD-AM and later handled sports anchoring duties at 940 WINZ-AM. He was named The Finsiders Show afternoon program host on WINZ. Agler was promoted to pregame and halftime studio host of the Miami Dolphins Radio Network in July 2010.
He replaced Dick Stockton as the television play-by-play announcer of Miami Dolphins preseason games in 2013. The first hour of The Finsiders Show was simulcasted by Fox Sports Florida starting in September 2013.

WINZ Shifts The Greek
Miami Sports 940 WINZ-AM will change their afternoon schedule as of April 13. The Greek has his two-hour program bumped to one hour later beginning at 3PM. He has hosted a mid-afternoon show on WINZ since January 2019. The Greek is an on-air contributor for the Jeff DeForrest Show on WINZ and Sports Radio 1230 The Zone WBZT-AM.
The Greek remains the midday co-host of The Penthouse show on Real Radio 94.3 WZZR-FM in West Palm Beach. He previously was a late morning co-host there.
The Sunshine State Showdown with Brandon Kravitz and Zac Blobner is slated for one hour starting at 5PM. It has been on WYGM-FM in Orlando and WFXJ-AM in Jacksonville since March. Kravitz is currently the WYGM program director and his duties at that radio station have included afternoon co-host, Orlando Magic Radio Network studio host and sideline reporter. Blobner is a sports host at WDAE-FM in Tampa and previously worked in Jacksonville. R.J. Bell and his one-hour sports betting show from Fox Sports Radio will be plugged in at 6PM.

Marlins Valued Last In Major League Baseball
Forbes issued their list of the highest valued Major League Baseball clubs. The Miami Marlins finished in last place among all 30 MLB teams.
The Marlins were valued at $980 million in the recent result. They were pegged at $1 billion in the previous rankings. Only Miami and the Pittsburgh Pirates ended up dropping in value for baseball.
The New York Yankees finished first in Major League Baseball at $5 billion. They have been on top of that list since 1998.

Rich Eisen Off WINZ
Rich Eisen and his syndicated radio show is no longer broadcast on Fox Sports Radio affiliates. His final program on Miami Sports 940 WINZ-AM was last week on April 3. He has been on that radio station since November 2014.

Miami Heat Regular Season Recap
The Miami Heat 2019-20 regular season was expected to end for them next Tuesday on April 14 against the Toronto Raptors. It did not happen because the regular season was postponed by the National Basketball Association on March 11 due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The Heat had 17 games remaining in the regular season with a 41-24 record when the campaign was stopped. Miami was in fourth place in the Eastern Conference and first in the Southeast Division. If the rest of the regular season was scrapped and not played, they would make the NBA postseason.

Florida Panthers Sign Cole Schwindt
The Florida Panthers have signed forward Cole Schwindt to a three-year, entry-level contract. He was selected by the Panthers in the third round of the 2019 NHL Draft with the 81st overall pick.
Schwindt is the leading scorer for the Mississauga Steelheads in the Ontario Hockey League this season with 71 points along with 28 goals in 57 games. He has compiled 55 goals and 83 assists for 138 points in 191 regular season games during his three seasons with them.

Nick Bosa and Kelvin Taylor Make All-Decade Team
Two South Florida high school football players were selected to the MaxPreps 2010s All-Decade Team. They are defensive lineman Nick Bosa and running back Kelvin Taylor.
Bosa made the third team on defense. He played for the St. Thomas Aquinas Raiders and helped them capture three FHSAA Class 7A state titles in 2012, 2014 and 2015. Bosa is currently playing with the San Francisco 49ers and appeared in Super Bowl XLIV at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami earlier this year. He is the son of former Miami Dolphins defensive lineman John Bosa.
Taylor was listed for the second team on offense. He was with the Glades Day Gators and helped them win two straight FHSAA Class 1B state championships in 2009 and 2010. Taylor remains second all-time nationally in rushing yards and third all-time nationally in career touchdowns behind Derrick Henry of Yulee. Former Jacksonville Jaguars running back Fred Taylor is his father.

Scott Ferrall Joins SB Nation Radio
Former 560 WQAM-AM sports host Scott Ferrall has joined SB Nation Radio as their new afternoon host. He will begin his new position on April 14 from 4PM to 6PM. SB Nation Radio and its programming is not relayed by any South Florida sports format radio station.
Ferrall currently hosts a sports betting video afternoon show and evening show on SportsGrid since January 29. The afternoon program that he announces will be syndicated by SB Nation Radio.
He was a mid-morning host on WQAM during 2003 and 2004. His show was sandwiched between the Howard David Show and the Neil Rogers Show. Ferrall was also carried by that radio station through national syndication over the past 25 years.
Ferrall hosted the syndicated Ferrall On The Bench late night program on Westwood One from 1995 until 1999. Vince Biegel Returns To Dolphins
Linebacker Vince Biegel inked a contract with the Miami Dolphins on Monday. He is under a restricted free agent tender by the Dolphins and agreed to a deal worth $2.1 million.
Siegel was acquired by Miami prior to the 2019 regular season from the New Orleans Saints for Kiko Alonso. He had his best campaign in the NFL last season with 59 combined tackles, 2 1/2 sacks and one interception.

Golf Major Tournaments Change Dates
Men's professional golf will see new dates for all of their 2020 major tournaments held in the United States due to the coronavirus pandemic. It will affect top pro golfers that reside in South Florida which includes Tiger Woods.
The Masters will to be played this upcoming weekend in Augusta, Georgia and it was shifted to November 12-15. The PGA Championship moved from May to August 6-9 in San Francisco while the U.S. Open scheduled in June was changed to September 17-20.
The other major golf tournament the British Open to be played on July 16-19 was cancelled and will not be made up. The last time it was not held was in 1945 because of World War II.

Locals Make 2010s NFL All-Decade Team
The National Football League named their 2010s NFL All-Decade Team on Monday. Four former South Florida high school football players were chosen on that list.
Patrick Peterson of Arizona Cardinals was selected as a cornerback. He was with the Blanche Ely Tigers until 2007.
Geno Atkins of the Cincinnati Bengals was named as a defensive tackle. He led the St. Thomas Aquinas Raiders to the FHSAA Class 5A state title game in 2004 and 2005 that lost to Lakeland.
Special teams kickoff returner Devin Hester of the Chicago Bears was also announced. He did play high school football with the Suncoast Chargers and college football with the University of Miami Hurricanes.
Wide receiver Antonio Brown, formerly of the Pittsburgh Steelers, made the team. He played with the Miami Norland Vikings while in high school football.

Two former Miami Dolphins players were named to the National Foorball League 2010s All-Decade Team. The announcement was made by the NFL on Monday.
Running back Frank Gore, who played college football with the University of Miami, was with the Dolphins for one season in 2018. He played in 14 games that year and compiled 156 carries for 722 yards. Gore has 15,347 rushing yards in his 15-year NFL career.
Defensive lineman Ndamukong Suh was also selected and played for the club from 2015 to 2017. He started in every game during his three-year stint with the Fins and put together 180 combined tackles along with 15 1/2 sacks. Suh has 58 1/2 sacks and 520 combined tackles in 10 seasons.

Florida Panthers Season Recap
The Florida Panthers regular season was suppose to end on Saturday at home against the Washington Captials. Their final 13 games of the 2019-20 season was postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The Panthers currently have a 35-28-6 record and are in fourth place in the Atlantic Division. They are three points behind the Toronto Maple Leafs for third place in the division and three points back for the final Eastern Conference wild-card spot.
Florida would not made the playoffs for the 17th time in the 19 seasons should the National Hockey League cancel and wipe out the remainder of the regular season to implement the Stanley Cup playoff tournament. The Panthers would not qualify for the postseason even if points percentage was used as a criteria.

Dolphins Ink Matt Haack
The Dolphins signed punter Matt Haack to a contract on Thursday. He was an original round restricted free agent tender of the team.
Haack saw action in 48 straight regular season games for the Dolphins in the last three seasons. He made 69 punts in 2019 for an average 45 yards per punt.
His most famous play he was involved was as a holder during a fake field goal in the second quarter against the Philadelphia Eagles on December 1. He shoveled a pass to kicker Jason Sanders in the middle of the end zone for a touchdown.

Inter Miami CF Signs Local Television Deal
Inter Miami CF has agreed to a local broadcast deal with CBS Miami television stations My 33 WBFS-TV Channel 33 and CBS 4 Channel 4 WFOR-TV in Miami. The broadcast contract between the club and the television organization is for two years. Major League Soccer has mandated that local television broadcast rights involving all their clubs can not go beyond the 2021 season.
It will be the first time in 15 years that a South Florida pro sports franchise, outside of the Miami Dolphins, will have game broadcasts on a local over-the-air television station and not a regional sports network. The Florida Marlins had some of their contests on WPXM-TV Channel 35 back in 2005.
The television broadcasting crew were named back on March 26 and some of the broadcasters are well known in South Florida. Former Ft. Lauderdale Strikers midfielder Ray Hudson will be the game analyst. He played for the Fort Laudedale Strikers in the North American Soccer League from 1977 to 1984. Hudson previous soccer broadcasting experience includes Miami Fusion game analyst, studio analyst for ESPN, game analyst for Gol TV and game analyst for beIN Sports.
Fernando Fiore was also named a game analyst and he had a long tenure at Univision. He hosted the Republica Deportiva sports show from 1995 to 2014 and was the studio host of soccer games on that network. Fiore has worked for Fox Sports since 2015 as a soccer studio host and studio analyst.
Andres Cordero will be the play-by-play announcer for Inter Miami CF games. He is a play-by-play soccer announcer and studio host for beIN Sports.

Kevin Rogers Out At Entercom Communications
Kevin Rogers was released by Entercom Communications on Tuesday because of budget cuts. He worked for both of their sports radio stations in Miami which are 560 The Joe WQAM-AM and Sports Talk 790 The Ticket WAXY-AM. He will continue with VegasInsider.com as a senior writer and handicapper.
Rogers, a Florida State University grad, was the weekend host on the Florida Panthers Radio Network since November 2015. It was his third stint in that post. He had the position in the late 2000s at The Ticket and from September 2010 to April 2014 at WQAM.
He was the Miami Dolphins Radio Network halftime and postgame studio host until last year. Rogers was also the backup play-by-play announcer and studio host of the University of Miami Hurricanes Radio Network basketball and baseball broadcasts when Joe Zagacki had another Hurricanes radio obligation.

The Ticket Drops Zack Duarte And Trevor Murray
Sports Talk 790 The Ticket WAXY-AM evening host Zack Duarte is no longer with the radio station due to budget cuts. Trevor Murray was also released by them after 14 years of service with The Ticket as a producer, sports anchor and fill-in host.
Duarte was one of several people on the staff to co-host the evening program after Josh Friedman moved to the midday shift at 560 WQAM-AM in December 2018. He eventually became the main evening host at WAXY in October 2019 when he replaced Greg Likens. Duarte did work as a producer, sports anchor and weekend host during his tenure there.
Kyle Berger Exiting WNPV
Kyle Berger will be leaving WNPV-AM in Lansdale, Pennsylvania on April 30. That radio station made an announcement back on March 4 that they will no longer exist and operate due to the lack of budgeting issues going back the past couple of years.
Berger, a 2003 University of Miami grad, has been employed at WNPV-AM for the last 17 years as a sportscaster. He also worked Friday night football games as a sideline reporter from 2003 until 2005 and as their lead play-by-play announcer from 2006 to 2019. Berger did work at WVUM-FM in Coral Gables while attending college.

Manny Chang No Longer With WQAM
560 The Joe WQAM-AM let go producer Manny Chang earlier this week. It was due to job cuts made by Entercom Communications because the coronavirus pandemic has impacted their company operating budget.
Chang was a board operator, engineer and producer at WQAM over the past decade. He added duties as the Florida Panthers Radio Network engineer in March 2015 and the Miami Dolphins Radio Network senior producer since August 2015.

Wimbledon Cancelled
The annual Wimbledon tennis tournament held in England was cancelled on Wednesday due to the coronavirus pandemic. The last time this grand-slam event had be not played was in 1945 because of World War II. The 134th Wimbledon Championships will now be held from June 28-July 11, 2021.
Several tennis players who reside in South Florida will be affected by this situation. They include the breakout player in the 2019 Wimbledon women's singles tournament Cori "Coco" Gauff of Delray Beach.
