Inter Miami CF Lose Leagues Cup

      Inter Miami CF lost to the Seattle Sounders 3-0 in the Leagues Cup Final at Lumen Field on Sunday night. The Herons looked to capture their second Leagues Cup in the last three seasons. 
     Seattle got out to a 1-0 advantage in 26th minute of play. They crossed the ball from the right side and Osaze De Rosario put in a header from four yards out. 
     Inter Miami could not make the comeback in the second half. Alex Roldan placed in a penalty kick into the low right corner of the net during the 84th minute for a two-goal lead. Paul Rothrock made it 3-0 for the Sounders in the 89th minute when he booted a right-footed shot from 10 yards away. 

Hurricanes Edge Notre Dame

     The University of Miami Hurricanes survived the University of Notre Dame Fighting Irish 27-24 at Hard Rock Stadium on Sunday night. It was the first time both schools have met since 2017.
     Carson Beck made his Canes debut as starting quarterback. He won two CFP National Championships with the University of Georgia Bulldogs before transferring to Miami. 

Marlins Ride By Mets

     The New York Mets were disposed by the Miami Marlins 5-1 at Citi Field on Sunday. The Marlins will play at the Washington Nationals tomorrow. 
     Miami(65-72) rambled out to a 5-0 lead by the fifth inning. New York(73-64) scored their only run during the bottom of the seventh.

Marlins Outscore Mets

     The Miami Marlins outpowered the New York Mets 11-8 on Saturday at Citi Field. The Marlins continued their seven-game road swing.
     Miami(64-72) scattered five runs in the top of the first. New York(73-63) evened it up 8-8 during the bottom of the sixth. The Fish got one run in the seventh and two runs in the ninth.

Miami Northwestern & Venice Cancelled

     Two reigning FHSAA state champions were to face each other on Friday night as the Miami Northwestern Bulls challenged the Venice Indians at Traz Powell Stadium in Miami. The game was cancelled due to weather conditions. Both teams will try to repeat as state champions in their classifications this season. 
     Miami Northwestern(0-1), the defending FHSAA Class 3A state champions, take on the Carol City Chiefs in a week. Venice(0-1), the defending FHSAA Class 7A state champs, hosts the Bishop Verot Vikings next week. 

Mets Dismante Marlins

     The New York Mets dominated the Miami Marlins 19-9 on Friday night at Citi Field. Both teams continued their four-game set. 
     New York(73-62) chalked up five runs during the bottom of the first. Miami(63-72) gave up seven runs in the second inning and were down 12-0.

West Boca Raton Tops Palm Beach Central

     The West Boca Raton Bulls routed the Palm Beach Central Broncos 50-7 in Boca Raton on Thursday night. The Bulls are the reigning FHSAA Class 6A state champions. 
     West Boca Raton(1-0) held a 21-7 advantage at halftime. Palm Beach Central(0-2) could not score in the last two quarters and surrendered 29 points during the second half. 
     The Bulls will host Bergen Catholic from New Jersey next week. The Broncos return home and face the Spanish River Sharks in a week. 

Amber Wilson & Jonathan Zaslow Back Together

     Former Miami radio sports talk hosts Amber Wilson and Jonathan Zaslow will reunite again on ESPN Radio for the second straight college football season. They will co-host a Friday evening show and a Saturday midday program from different college locations. Rashad Jennings, their co-host from last season, will not be back. 
     Wilson, Zaslow and Jennings did the first week together to begin the 2024 campaign. Wilson then left the shows for maternity leave and returned several months later near the end of the college football season. 
     Zaslow and Wilson once co-hosted mornings at Sports Talk 790 The Ticket WAXY-AM along with Brendan Tobin and Brett Romberg from March 2016 to August 2019. Wilson and Zaslow were both shifted to middays and they stayed together until June 2021. 

Marlins Crawl By Mets

     The Miami Marlins knocked off the New York Mets 7-4 at Citi Field on Thursday night. The Marlins began a seven-game road swing. 

Hurricanes Add Givani Smith

     The Carolina Hurricanes are giving right wing Givani Smith an opportunity to make their roster. He has agreed to a professional tryout offer.
     Smith played one season with the Florida Panthers in 2022-23. He finished up with four points in 34 contests while in Florida.

Florida Panthers On National Television

     The National Hockey League announced that 15 games involving the two-time defending Stanley Cup champions the Florida Panthers will be televised during the 2025-26 regular season on national television in the United States. Nine games will be on ESPN/ESPN+ while six contests will be on TNT. 
     It means that the other 67 regular season games will be aired locally on Scripps Sports. Television stations are in Miami, West Palm Beach and Fort Myers. 

Rob Stevenson New Florida Panthers COO

     Rob Stevenson has been promoted to chief operating officer of the Florida Panthers. He was elevated from the position as executive vice president of people and facilities after three years. 
     It is another change in the team's upper management. Matthew Caldwell announced he was leaving the Florida Panthers president/chief executive officer post for the Minnesota Timberwolves and Minnesota Lynx. 

Matthew Caldwell Exiting Florida Panthers

     Florida Panthers president and chief executive officer Matthew Caldwell is leaving the organization. He will become the chief executive officer of the Minnesota Timberwolves and the Minnesota Lynx beginning on September 2. 
     Caldwell joined the Panthers organization in 2014. Florida has captured two Stanley Cup titles, three Eastern Conference championships, one Presidents' Trophy and three division titles during his reign with the team. His name appears twice on the Stanley Cup.

Inter Miami CF In Leagues Cup Final

     Inter Miami CF came back on Orlando City SC 3-1 in the Leagues Cup Semifinals at Chase Stadium in Fort Lauderdale on Wednesday night. The Herons will play the Leagues Cup Final on Sunday at the Seattle Sounders. Inter Miami CF will attempt to capture their second Leagues Cup in the last three years. 
     Orlando City SC rolled out to a 1-0 lead the end of the first half. Marco Pasalic was able to get a goal during stoppage time when he blasted a left-footed shot from 13 yards away. 
     Inter Miami CF mounted a comeback in the second half. Lionel Messi placed in a penalty kick with his left foot during the 77th minute into the low right corner of the cage to even it up 1-1.
     Messi later scored off a give-and-go play alongside Jordi Alba with a left-footed shot from seven yards out in the 88th minute for a 2-1 lead. Telasco Segovia extended the Herons lead to 3-1 in stoppage time. 

Braves Blow Out Marlins

     The Atlanta Braves pounded the Miami Marlins 12-1 on Wednesday at loanDepot park. The Marlins completed a nine-game homestand. The Fish have tomorrow off and will visit the New York Mets on Friday.

Jose Urena Leaves Twins

     Former Miami Marlins pitcher Jose Urena has parted from the Minnesota Twins and has become a free agent. He has played for four MLB teams this season which includes the New York Mets, Toronto Blue Jays, Los Angeles Dodgers and Minnesota Twins. 
     Urena could tie a MLB record should he play with another club this year. He was with the Marlins from 2015 until 2020. 

Miami Marlins 2026 Schedule

     Major League Baseball released the 2026 regular season schedule for all 30 clubs. The Miami Marlins will be playing in their 34th MLB season. 
     The Marlins open up the 2026 campaign at home against the Colorado Rockies on March 26. They will finish the regular season on September 27 hosting the Atlanta Braves.
     Miami will face National League East divisional foes the New York Mets, Philadelphia Phillies, Atlanta Braves and Washington Nationals 13 times each. The Marlins will host at least three games and participate in at least three road contests versus the other 10 National League teams. 
     In terms with the American League, the Fish will face the Rays three times in Miami and three times in Tampa. The Marlins will be at home against the Boston Red Sox, Baltimore Orioles, Chicago White Sox, Los Angeles Angels, Texas Rangers, Seattle Mariners and Cleveland Guardians. 

Rasul Douglas Coming To Dolphins

     Veteran defensive back Rasul Douglas is heading to the Miami Dolphins. He is signing a one-year contract worth $3 million with the team. 
     Douglas spent the past two seasons with the Buffalo Bills. He had previous stints with the Philadelphia Eagles, Carolina Panthers and Green Bay Packers. 

Amari Cooper Returns To Raiders

     Amari Cooper is back with the Raiders organization for a second stint. His first stint with the franchise was from 2015 to 2018 when they were in Oakland. He inked a one-year deal worth $3.5 million to play in Las Vegas this season. 
     Cooper played high school football with the Miami Northwestern Bulls. He later attended the University of Alabama and won a BCS national championship with the Crimson Tide in 2012. 

NFL Final Cuts Of Local Players

     All 32 NFL teams cut their roster to 53 players at the end of the preseason. Numerous players had a local South Florida connection. The 2025 regular season will start on September 4. 
     The Tennessee Titans waived former St. Thomas Aquinas/Deerfield Beach/University of Miami wide receiver Xavier Restrepo. The Washington Commanders released ex Cardinal Gibbons/St. Thomas Aquinas/Florida State University offensive lineman Bobby Hart. The Atlanta Falcons let go ex Columbus/University of Florida defensive back C.J. Henderson. 
     The Indianapolis Colts dropped former Plantation/Miami Dolphins defensive back Chris Lammons. The Buffalo Bills waived Miami Killian running back Frank Gore Jr. 
     One-time Miami Dolphins players running back Jeff Wilson and wide receiver Robbie Chosen were dumped by the San Francisco 49ers. The Niners also released Lake Worth/University of Miami defensive lineman Jonathan Garvin. 
     Former Dillard defensive lineman Jonathan Ford was waived by the Chicago Bears. The Pittsburgh Steelers dropped Deerfield Beach defensive back James Pierre and waived American Heritage defensive back Daryl Porter Jr. The Las Vegas Raiders let go St. Thomas Aquinas/University of Miami wide receiver Phillip Dorsett. 

Kelley Bydlon VSIN Weekday Host

     Former West Palm Beach producer Kelley Bydlon has been elevated to midday co-host at VSIN from late morning on-air sidekick. His program can be heard locally beginning on September 2 at Sports Radio 1230 The Gambler WBZT-AM in West Palm Beach. 
     He joined VSIN as a producer in September 2018. Bydlon later added duties as the Hardware Handicappers podcast co-host along with the Sunday afternoon co-host position. 
     Bydlon started at ESPN Radio 760 WEFL-AM as an intern in 2009 and was promoted to producer. He shifted to sister-station ESPN West Palm 106.3 WUUB-FM in February 2013 as a producer and stayed there until September 2018. Bydlon was also a sports producer at WPTV-TV Channel 5 in West Palm Beach. 

Dolphins Release Mike Hilton

     The Miami Dolphins have released cornerback Mike Hilton. He signed with a one-year deal with the club back in July. 
     Hilton has been in the NFL since 2017. He has played with the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Cincinnati Bengals.

Braves Ease By Marlins

     The Atlanta Braves moved by the Miami Marlins 11-2 at loanDepot park on Tuesday night. The Marlins will complete their nine-game homestand tomorrow. 
     The contest was tied 2-2 at the end of eight innings. Atlanta(60-72) scored nine runs during the top of the ninth against Miami(62-70).

Luke Kunin Signs With Panthers

     Forward Luke Kunin signed a one-year contract with the Florida Panthers. It is a one-way deal that is worth $775,000.
     Kunin has been in the National Hockey League since the 2017-18 campaign. He had stints with the Minnesota Wild, Nashville Predators, San Jose Sharks and Columbus Blue Jackets.

Browns Drop Tyler Huntley

     The Cleveland Browns have let to quarterback Tyler Huntley. It was the second straight year that Huntley was released by the Browns prior to the regular season. 
     Huntley played high school football with the Hallandale Chargers. He participated in five games with the Miami Dolphins in 2024. 

Browns Dump Nik Needham

     The Cleveland Browns have released defensive back Nik Needham. He signed as a free agent with that club back in April. 
     Needham spent his entire six-year NFL career with the Miami Dolphins from 2019 to 2024. He was involved in 63 contests with the Fins. 

Marlins Nip Braves

     The Miami Marlins held off the Atlanta Braves 2-1 on Monday night at loanDepot park. The Marlins have a 3-4 record during their homestand. 
     Maximo Acosta gave Miami(62-69) a 2-1 lead with third career home run in the bottom of the eighth. Drake Baldwin broke the shutout for Atlanta(59-72) in the top of the ninth on a solo homer to center field.

     The Miami Marlins ousted the Toronto Blue Jays 5-3 at loanDepot park on Sunday. The Marlins avoided a three-game sweep to the Blue Jays. The Fish host the Atlanta Braves on Monday.

St. Francis Academy Breaks Chaminade-Madonna

     The Chaminade-Madonna Lions lost to the St. Francis Academy Panthers 42-13 at Simmons Family Field in Fort Lauderdale on Saturday night. The Lions are the defending FHSAA Class 1A state champions and have reached the state title game nine consecutive years. 

Mater Dei Edges St. Thomas Aquinas

     The reigning national champions the Mater Dei Monarchs defeated the St. Thomas Aquinas Raiders 26-23 in Simmons Family Field at Brian Piccolo Stadium in Fort Lauderdale on Saturday. It is the first meeting ever between both powerhouse high school football programs. 
     The Raiders have won six consecutive FHSAA state titles and compiled a state-record 16 FHSAA state championships. The Monarchs have won numerous state titles over the years in California.

Inter Miami CF Ties DC United

     Inter Miami CF tied DC United 1-1 at Audi Field on Saturday night. The Herons next game will be at home against Orlando City SC in the Leagues Cup Semifinals on Wednesday.
     DC United(4-15-9) bounced out to a 1-0 advantage in the 13th minute on a goal by Jackson Hopkins. In the second half, Inter Miami CF(13-5-7) evened it up 1-1 when Baltasar Rodriguez scored during the 64th minute. 

Dolphins Slide By Jaguars

     The Miami Dolphins pushed by the Jacksonville Jaguars 14-6 on Saturday night at Hard Rock Stadium. The Fins played their only home contest in the preseason. 
     It was the final preseason game for both teams. The Dolphins open up the 2025 regular season on September 7 at the Indianapolis Colts. 

Blue Jays Outlast Marlins

     The Toronto Blue Jays outslugged the Miami Marlins 7-6 in 12 innings on Saturday at loan Depot park. The Marlins now have a 1-4 record on their current nine-game homestand. 

American Heritage Overcomes St. Joseph's Prep

     The American Heritage Patriots erased a 28-point deficit to defeat the St. Joseph's Prep Hawks 31-28 on Friday night at Bill Laurie Stadium in Plantation. The Patriots are the defending FHSAA Class 4A state champions. 
     St. Joseph's Prep(0-1) sprung out to a 14-0 advantage after one quarter and led 21-0 at halftime. The Hawks increased the gap to 28-0 during the third quarter. 
     American Heritage(1-0) answered back with 14 points in the third and trailed 28-14. The Patriots leaped in front during the fourth quarter with 17 more points for a 31-28 lead.

Atlantic Wallops Palm Beach Gardens

      The Atlantic Eagles smashed the Palm Beach Gardens Gators 49-19 on Friday night at Mullinax Ford Stadium. Both teams look to contend for the postseason this year. 
      The Eagles jumped out to a 22-0 lead in the first half. The Gators closed it to 30-13 early in the third quarter. Atlantic was able to pull away later in the second half. 
      Atlantic(1-0) will host the out-of-state Jonesboro Cardinals next week. Palm Beach Gardens(0-1) will be home against the Santaluces Chiefs in a week. 

Pahokee Pokes Palm Beach Central

     The Palm Beach Central Broncos fell to the Pahokee Blue Devils 25-22 at Broncos Stadium on Friday night. Both high schools are likely to reach the FHSAA Playoffs in their classifications. 
     It does not get easier for Palm Beach Central(0-1) next week when they host the reigning FHSAA Class 6A state champions the West Boca Raton Bulls. Pahokee(1-0) returns to The Muck and face the Cypress Lake Panthers. 

Blue Jays Bounce Marlins

     The Toronto Blue Jays canned the Miami Marlins 5-2 at loanDepot park on Friday night. The Marlins continued their nine-game homestand.

Braves Bring In Cal Quantrill

     The Atlanta Braves claimed starting pitcher Cal Quantrill from the Miami Marlins. Quantrill compiled a 4-10 record along with a 5.50 earned run average this season with Miami. 

American Heritage Blanks Somerset Prep

     The American Heritage Stallions pounded the Somerset Prep Hurricanes 54-0 at The Corral in Delray Beach on Thursday night. It was the first high school football game played in Palm Beach County for the 2025 regular season. 
     The Stallions dominated the Hurricanes during the game. A running clock was implemented in the second half. 
     American Heritage(1-0) make a long trip to the Centennial Eagles in a week. Somerset Prep(0-1) will be at home next week versus the Somerset Academy Key Lions. 

Archbishop McCarthy Upsets Cardinal Gibbons

     The Archbishop McCarthy Mavericks stunned the Cardinal Gibbons Chiefs 42-35 at Dr. Bud Tight Field in Fort Lauderdale on Thursday night. It was the opening game in the 2025 regular season for both high schools. 
     The contest was tied 14-14 by halftime. The Mavericks outscored the Chiefs 14-7 during the third quarter.
     Cardinal Gibbons(0-1) travels to the South Broward Bulldogs next week. Archbishop McCarthy(1-0) hosts the Community School of Naples Seahawks in Week 2. 

Melbourne Central Catholic Slams Somerset Academy Canyons

     The Melbourne Central Catholic Hustlers handled the Somerset Academy Canyons Cougars 35-7 on Thursday night in Boynton Beach. It was the first high school football game in 2025 for both teams.
     Melbourne Central Catholic(1-0) blasted out to a 21-0 advantage. Somerset Academy Canyons(0-1) broke the shutout during the second half.
     The Cougars visit the Somerset Academy Panthers in Pembroke Pines next week. The Hustlers host the Trinity Catholic Celtics in a week. 

Jorge Sedano & Scott Kaplan To Mornings

      Two former Miami radio sportscasters are moving to a new post in Los Angeles. Jorge Sedano and Scott Kaplan will have their program on KSPN-AM shifted from afternoons to mornings beginning on September 2.
      Sedano had stints at WAFN-AM, WINZ-AM, WIOD-AM, WAXY-AM, WQAM-AM and WFOR-TV in Miami from 1999 until 2013. He has hosted shows on KSPN since September 2016. 
      Kaplan once worked at WQAM-AM and CBS Sportsline in South Florida during the late 1990s. He joined KSPN as Sedano's afternoon co-host in February 2021. 

WBCN-AM Bought By Fort Myers Broadcasting

     ESPN Southwest Florida 770 WBCN-AM in Fort Myers has been sold by Beasley Media Group to Fort Myers Broadcasting. It also includes FM translators 98.1 W251AL and 104.3 W282BY, which simulcasts the WBCN signal.
     There is another sports talk format in the Fort Myers area. Sun Broadcasting owns Fox Sports SWFL that is on FM translators 94.1 W231DC, 103.3 W277AP and 105.9 W290DB.

Inter Miami CF Trade Drake Callender

     Inter Miami CF traded goalkeeper Drake Callender to Charlotte FC. He appeared in just three games this year with the team. 
     Callender helped the Herons capture the Leagues Cup in 2023 and the MLS Supporters' Shield setting the best single-season record ever in 2024. He participated in 92 regular season games from 2002 to 2025. 

Kristina Pink At Amazon Prime Video

     Former Miami television sportscaster Kristina Pink will be part of Amazon Prime Video's NBA coverage for the upcoming 2025-26 season. She will work as a sideline reporter. 
     Pink was a sports anchor and sports reporter with WTVJ-TV Channel 6 in Miami until August 2012. She has since then been employed as a sideline reporter on Fox Sports NFL games and as a courtside reporter on Los Angeles Clippers contests. 

Inter Miami CF Advance By Tigres

     Inter Miami CF defeated Tigres 2-1at Chase Stadium in Fort Lauderdale on Wednesday night in a Leagues Cup Quarterfinals contest. Lionel Messi did not play in the game for Inter Miami CF. They will face either Toluca or Orlando City SC in the Leagues Cup Semifinals next week. 
     In the first half, the Herons took a 1-0 lead in the 23rd minute. Luis Suarez placed in a right-footed penalty kick into the right side of the cage. 
     Tigres tied it up 1-1 during the 67th minute. Angel Correa dribbled into the penalty area and put in a nine-yard shot with his right foot. 
     Inter Miami CF reclaimed the lead 2-1 in the 89th minute as Suarez scored on another penalty kick. This one went into the low right corner of the net. 

Marco Tomas Perez Guilty

     Marco Tomas Perez pleaded guilty for stealing over 300 team memorabilia items from the Miami Heat and reselling some of them. Items taken included game-used jerseys of LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Shaquille O'Neal.
     Perez was with the City of Miami Police Department from 1992 to 2016. He was a Miami Heat security officer from 2016 to 2021, when he had access to the Heat archives area. Perez was an NBA security officer from 2022 until 2025. 

Dolphins Ink Cameron Dantzler

     The Miami Dolphins have added defensive back Cameron Dantzler. He ended up signing a one-year deal.
     He was not associated with any NFL club last season. Dantzler was previously with the Minnesota Vikings and the New Orleans Saints. 

Dolphins Waive Ryan Stonehouse

      The Miami Dolphins have waived punter Ryan Stonehouse. It was the second time that he has been waived this year.
      Stonehouse played his entire three-year career with the Tennessee Titans. He set an NFL record in 2022 and 2023 averaging 53.1 yards per punt. 

Marlins Shake Cardinals

     The Miami Marlins avoided a three-game sweep by the St. Louis Cardinals 6-2 on Wednesday night at loanDepot park. The Marlins have off tomorrow and will face the Toronto Blue Jays on Friday. 
     Maximo Acosta collected his first base hit with Miami(60-67). It was a solo home run against St. Louis(63-65) in the bottom of the eighth.

United States Olympic Hockey Team

     The preliminary roster for the 2026 United States hockey team has been announced. Several players on the Florida Panthers made the squad.  
     Florida right wing Matthew Tkachuk was one of six players first selected to the team back in June. Panthers defenseman Seth Jones was chosen for the team. One-time Florida Panthers player Vincent Trocheck was also picked for the club. 

Matt Judon Signs With Dolphins

      Defensive lineman Matt Judon is joining the Miami Dolphins. He is signing a one-year contract that is worth around $6 million.   
      Judon has been in the National Football League since 2016. He had stints with the Baltimore Ravens, New England Patriots and Atlanta Falcons.

Cardinals Spring By Marlins

     The St. Louis Cardinals toppled the Miami Marlins 7-4 on Tuesday night at loanDepot park. The Redbirds can sweep the three-game series tomorrow.

Shawn Thornton Leaving Panthers

     Shawn Thornton is exiting the Florida Panthers organization. He has worked the past eight years as a business operations executive.
     Thornton ended his NHL playing career with the Panthers from 2014-15 to 2016-17. He won two Stanley Cup titles with the Anaheim Ducks in 2007 and the Boston Bruins in 2011.

Xavien Howard Off To Colts

     Former Miami Dolphins defensive back Xavien Howard has returned to the NFL after one-year absence. He signed a one-year deal worth $5 million with the Indianapolis Colts. 
     Howard spent his entire NFL career with the Dolphins from 2018 to 2023. He had 29 interceptions in 100 games with Miami. 

Dru Smith Re-Signs With Heat

      Miami Heat guard Dru Smith has re-signed with the club. It is a three-year contract between him and the team.
     Smith is in his second stint with Miami. He participated in 14 games during the 2024-25 campaign and averaged 6.2 points-per-game. 

Marlins Fold To Cardinals

     The Miami Marlins lost to the St. Louis Cardinals 8-3 at loanDepot park on Monday night. The Marlins were coming off a season-high, 11-game road trip. 

Heat Trade Hayward Highsmith

     The Miami Heat traded forward Hayward Highsmith and 2032 second-round pick to the Brooklyn Nets for a 2026 second-round pick. It was a case of the Heat cutting back on their salary cap and being under the luxury tax line. 
     Haywood the past four seasons with the Heat. He averaged 5.5 points and 3.2 rebounds in 213 contests while with Miami.

Pat Riley Statue

     The Los Angeles Lakers announced that they will unveil a statue of former head coach Pat Riley outside of Crypto.com Arena during the 2025-26 regular season. It will occur on February 22 when the Lakers host their longtime rival the Boston Celtics. 
     Riley was the Lakers head coach when they captured four NBA titles in 1982, 1985, 1987 and 1988. Los Angeles became the first franchise to win consecutive championships since the Celtics did it in the late 1960s.
     He had been the Miami Heat head of basketball operations since 1995. Riley has led the Heat to three NBA championships in 2006, 2012 and 2013.

Red Sox Can't Sweep Marlins

     The Miami Marlins overcame the Boston Red Sox 5-3 at Fenway Park on Sunday. The Marlins completed an 11-game road trip and prevented a three-game sweep by the Red Sox. 
     Boston(68-57) had a 3-1 lead after seven innings. Miami(59-65) came back with one run in the eighth and three more runs in the top of the ninth for a 5-3 lead.

Inter Miami CF Burn LA Galaxy

     Inter Miami CF powered by the Los Angeles Galaxy 3-1 on Saturday night at Chase Stadium. The Herons will next host Tigres in the Leagues Cup Quarterfinals on Wednesday. 
     There was one goal during the first half. Inter Miami CF(13-5-6) got out to a 1-0 advantage when Jordi Alba was able to score in the 43rd minute. 
     LA Galaxy(3-16-7) evened it up 1-1 in the 59th minute on a tally by Joseph Paintsil. The Herons came back with goals by Lionel Messi in the 84th minute and Luis Suarez in the 89th minute. 
     
     

Red Sox Handle Marlins

     The Boston Red Sox held down the Miami Marlins 7-5 on Saturday at Fenway Park. The Red Sox can sweep the three-game series against the Marlins on Sunday.

Dolphins Evade Lions

     The Miami Dolphins escaped the Detroit Lions 24-17 at Ford Field on Saturday. The Dolphins will finish their 2025 preseason next Saturday when they host the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Matt Breida Retiring

     Former Miami Dolphins running back Matt Breida is finishing his professional football career. He was not involved in the NFL last season. 
     Breida played one season with the Dolphins in 2020. He ended up with 59 rushing attempts for 254 rushing yards in 12 games with Miami.

Red Sox Slip By Marlins

     The Boston Red Sox passed by the Miami Marlins 2-1 at Fenway Park on Friday night.  It was the first contest of a three-game series between both clubs. 
     Miami(58-64) took a 1-0 lead in the top of the third. Kyle Stowers doubled off the Green Monster in left-center field to score Xavier Edwards.
     Boston(67-56) tied it up 1-1 during the bottom of the sixth. Alex Bregman knocked in Roman Anthony on a double into the right-field corner. 
     The Red Sox got the walk-off 2-1 victory in the ninth inning. Trevor Story singled through the right side and Anthony crossed the plate. 

Miami Heat 2025-26 Schedule

     The NBA released the 2025-26 regular season schedule. The Miami Heat will be playing their 38th NBA season.

C.J. Henderson Signing With Falcons

     Former Dade County high school football player C.J. Henderson is about to sign with the Atlanta Falcons. He previously had NFL stints with the Jacksonville Jaguars and the Carolina Panthers. 
     Henderson played high school football with the Columbus Explorers. He later attended the University of Florida for college football.

Dolphins Ink Yondy Cajuste

     The Miami Dolphins signed offensive lineman Yondy Cajuste to a one-year contract. He was on the New York Giants injured reserve list during the 2024 season. Cajuste did play 17 games in two seasons with the New England Patriots in the early 2020s.

Bills Extend James Cook

     The Buffalo Bills have given running back James Cook a four-year contract extension through 2029. He was taken by the Bills in the second round of the 2022 NFL Draft. Cook has accumulated 2,638 rushing yards and 20 touchdowns in three seasons. He tied with an NFL-high 16 rushing touchdowns in 2024.
     Cook played high school football with the Miami Central Rockets. He later captured two CFP National Championships with the University of Georgia Bulldogs in 2021 and 2022. 

West Palm Beach Ratings July 2025

     The ratings were issued for West Palm Beach sports talk radio stations. The time span went from the final week in June to the final week in July. 
     Sports Radio 1230 The Gambler WBZT-AM stayed on top for the second straight time with a 0.3 in the period. The Miami Marlins saw improvement and leaped to third place in the National League East Division. 
     Fox Sports 640 South Florida WMEN-AM remained at a 0.2 in the month. The radio station had no game broadcasts over its airwaves. 

Marlins Dropped By Guardians

     The Miami Marlins lost to the Cleveland Guardians 9-4 on Thursday night at Progressive Field. The Marlins will visit Fenway Park and face the Boston Red Sox in a three-game series beginning tomorrow.

Jon Berti Gone From Cubs

     Jon Berti has been dropped by the Chicago Cubs and has become a free agent. He participated in 51 contests with the Cubs this season and had a .210 batting average
     Berti was with the Miami Marlins for five seasons from 2019 until 2023. He compiled 23 home runs, 118 runs batted in and a .258 batting average in 432 games with Miami.

Miami Heat NBA Cup Schedule

     The National Basketball Association has released the schedule for the NBA Cup. The Miami Heat is in the East Group C. 
     The Heat open up the NBA Cup hosting the Charlotte Hornets on November 7. Miami will visit the New York Knicks on November 14 and the Chicago Bulls on November 21. The Heat will play the Milwaukee Bucks in Miami on November 26. 

Miami Ratings July 2025

     The ratings were released for Miami/Fort Lauderdale sports talk radio stations. The time span went from the last week in June to the last week in July. 
     AM 560 Sports WQAM-AM dropped from a 0.9 to a 0.6 in the period and lost one-third of their audience. They had no game broadcasts on their station and it was the aftermath buzz of the Florida Panthers second straight Stanley Cup title. The Miami Heat made no big splash in the free agency period. It is expected to be the final month for WQAM-AM to be listed because of the upcoming simulcast of their signal on new brand WQAM-FM.
     Fox Sports 940 WINZ-AM improved to a 0.5 following two months at a 0.4. The Miami Marlins got on a roll winning numerous series and jumping over the Atlanta Braves for third place in the National League East Division. 
     Fox Sports 640 South Florida WMEN-AM increased to a 0.2 following three straight months at a 0.1. They depended on Fox Sports Radio on-air personalities and there were no game broadcasts.
     The WINZ stream on WZTU-FM-HD2 stayed at a 0.2 in the month. It seems that their is no audience for the WQAM stream after six consecutive months at a 0.0.

Gerard Gallant Shanghai Dragons Head Coach

     The Shanghai Dragons of the KHL have officially named Gerard Gallant as their new head coach. It turns out to be a two-year contract. The Kunlun Red Stars changed their name to the Shanghai Dragons earlier this month. 
     Gallant was the Florida Panthers head coach for three seasons from 2014-15 to 2016-17. He finished with a 96-65-25 record. His team won the Atlantic Division title in 2015-16.

Matt Mervis In Arizona

     The Arizona Diamondbacks have signed first baseman Matt Mervis to a minor league contract. He will be placed with their Triple-A affiliate in Reno. 
     Mervis played 42 contests with the Miami Marlins this season. He had seven home runs, 14 runs batted in and a .175 batting average.

Marlins Rout Guardians

     The Miami Marlins outpowered the Cleveland Guardians 13-4 on Wednesday night at Progressive Field. Both teams conclude their three-game series tomorrow.

Michael Pratt Waived By Buccaneers

     Former South Florida high school football quarterback Michael Pratt has been waived by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He will be placed on the Bucs reserve/player unable to play list. Pratt was selected by the Green Bay Packers in the seventh round of the 2024 NFL Draft. 
     Pratt played high school football with the Boca Raton Bobcats and the Deerfield Beach Bucks. He then went to Tulane University for college football.

Rocco Grimaldi In KHL

     One-time Florida Panthers forward Rocco Grimaldi is leaving for the Kontinental Hockey League. He has agreed to a deal with SKA St. Petersburg. 
     Grimaldi was chosen by Florida in the 2011 NHL Draft. He played two seasons with the Panthers in 2014-15 and 2015-16. He compiled four goals and two assists for six points in 27 games with the Cats. 

Yankees Grab Rob Brantly

     The New York Yankees have signed catcher Rob Brantly to a minor league contract. He was recently with the Miami Marlins. 
      Brantly participated in just three regular season games for the Fish this season. He finished up with a .429 batting average.

WBCN-AM Sold

     Beasley Media Group announced this morning in their quarterly earnings call that they have sold their entire Fort Myers cluster of radio stations to an unnamed owner. It includes ESPN Southwest Florida 770 WBCN-AM along with its two FM translators 98.1 W251AL and 104.3 W283BY.  
     The sports talk format has been on the 770 AM frequency since May 2021. It is unknown if the new owner will keep the format.

Aaron Shampklin Joins Dolphins

     Running back Aaron Shampklin has inked a contract with the Miami Dolphins. It is a one-year deal with the club. 
     He made his National Football League debut with the Pittsburgh Steelers last season. Shampklin chalked up six carries for 17 rushing yards.

Dolphins Add Mike Boone

     The Miami Dolphins have signed running back Mike Boone. It is a one-year contract between him and the Fins.
     Boone has been in the National Football League since the 2018 campaign. He had stints with the Minnesota Vikings, Denver Broncos, Houston Texans and Carolina Panthers. 

Miami Heat Not Playing On Christmas Day

     The National Basketball Association released their Christmas Day slate of games. The Miami Heat will not be playing on December 25.
     The main reason is that the Heat are not an NBA title contender and do not have a top recognized star on their roster. Miami last played on Christmas Day in 2023 as the reigning Eastern Conference champions. 

Guardians Get By Marlins

     The Cleveland Guardians edged the Miami Marlins 4-3 at Progressive Field on Tuesday night. The Marlins continued their 11-game road trip.

Tim Boyle Released By Titans

     The Tennessee Titans have released quarterback Tim Doyle. He signed with the team earlier this year in March. 
      Boyle split his time last season with the Miami Dolphins and the New York Giants. He finished with 153 passing yards in two games with the Fins last year. 

Jeff Wilson Returns To 49ers

     Running back Jeff Wilson has returned to the San Francisco 49ers for a second stint. He was with the 49ers from 2018 to 2022. 
     Wilson spent the last three seasons with the Miami Dolphins. He had 141 rushing attempts for 637 rushing yards and three touchdowns in 27 contests with the Fins. 

Myles Gaskin Signs With Ravens

      Former Miami Dolphins running back Myles Gaskin has signed a one-year contract with the Baltimore Ravens. He spent the past two seasons with the Minnesota Vikings. 
     Gaskin was with the Dolphins for four seasons from 2019 until 2022. He had 361 carries for 1,355 rushing yards and seven touchdowns in 38 games with Miami.

Orlando City SC Stomps Inter Miami CF

     Inter Miami CF lost to Orlando City SC 4-1 on Sunday night at Inter&Co Stadium in the Florida  Derby. It was the Herons first game since July 26. 
     Orlando City SC(12-6-8) rambled out to a 1-0 advantage in the second minute on a tally by Luis Muriel. Inter Miami CF(12-5-6) answered back and evened it up 1-1 when Yannick Bright scored in the fifth minute. 
     In the second half, the Herons would trail 2-1 as Muriel found the net with his second goal of the contest during the 50th minute of play. Orlando City SC collected goals from Martin Ojeda in the 58th minute and Marco Pasalic in the 88th minute for a 4-1 lead. 

Dolphins Preseason Games On WPTV-TV

     There is a new West Palm Beach affiliate for Miami Dolphins preseason games this year. WPTV-TV Channel 5 will have all three 2025 Miami Dolphins preseason contests.
     WTVX-TV Channel 34 was the affiliate in West Palm Beach in recent years. WFOR-TV Channel 4 in Miami remains the flagship station of Dolphins preseason games. 

Dolphins Tie Bears

     The Miami Dolphins tied the Chicago Bears 24-24 at Soldier Field on Sunday. It was the first preseason game for both teams in 2025. The Dolphins will visit the Detroit Lions on Saturday.

Braves Bash Marlins

      The Atlanta Braves mashed the Miami Marlins 7-1 on Sunday at Truist Park. It was the final game of a long five-game series between both franchises.

Jen Pawol First Woman Umpire

     Jen Pawol became the first female umpire in Major League Baseball history on Saturday. She was the first base umpire of the first game of a doubleheader between the Miami Marlins and the Atlanta Braves at Truist Park in Atlanta. 

Mariners Retire Ichiro Suzuki Number

      Ichiro Suzuki had his number 51 jersey retired by the Seattle Mariners on Saturday night. It happened in a pregame ceremony prior to Mariners home contest versus the Tampa Bay Rays at T-Mobile Park. 
      He was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame two weeks ago. Ichiro played three seasons with the Miami Marlins from 2015 to 2017. 

Braves Sweep Marlins In Doubleheader

     The Atlanta Braves downed the Miami Marlins 8-6 at Truist Park on Saturday night. It was the second game of a doubleheader between both teams. The final contest of the five-game series is Sunday.

Braves Rush By Marlins

     The Miami Marlins were beaten by the Atlanta Braves 7-1 on Saturday at Truist Park. It was the first game of a doubleheader. The Marlins finish their five-game series with the Bravos tomorrow. 
     Jen Pawol became the first woman umpire in Major League Baseball history. She worked as the first base umpire in the game.

Red Sox Claim Ali Sanchez

      Ali Sanchez has been claimed off waivers by the Boston Red Sox. He was in the Toronto Blue Jays organization this year. 
      Sanchez caught for the Miami Marlins during the 2024 season. He had a .167 batting average in 31 games with the Fish. 

Braves Claiming Vidal Brujan

      The Atlanta Braves have claimed Vidal Brujan after one contest with the Baltimore Orioles. He began the 2025 season with the Chicago Cubs and participated in 36 games. 
      Brujan spent just one season with the Miami Marlins in 2024. He had a .222 batting average in a career-high 102 games.

Marlins Break Braves

     The Miami Marlins picked up a 5-1 victory over the Atlanta Braves at Truist Park on Friday night. The Marlins continued their 11-game road swing.

WQAM Adds FM Frequency

     Audacy flipped 104.3 The Shark WSFS-FM from an alternative music format to a sports talk format at 2 p.m. today. 560 WQAM-AM is now simulcasted on an FM frequency and the call letters will bc changed to WQAM-FM. 
     The 104.3 FM frequency once did have a sports format when it was owned by Lincoln Financial Media. Sports Talk 790 The Ticket WAXY-AM was piped in as Sports Talk 104.3 The Ticket WAXY-FM from August 2012 until August 2015. 
     WQAM-FM will be the new flagship radio station of the Miami Heat Radio Network. Weekday shows from AM 560 Sports WQAM-AM including Joe Rose, Danny Rabinowitz, Brendan Tobin, Leroy Hoard, Marc Hochman, Channing Crowder and Alejandro Solana will air on WQAM-FM. 

Braves Overtake Marlins

      The Atlanta Braves overcame the Miami Marlins 8-6 at Truist Park on Thursday night. The Marlins began a 10-game road trip.
      Miami(56-58) placed five runs in the top of the second for a 5-2 advantage. Atlanta(48-66) roared back with six runs in their last three innings.

Brady Keeper Retires

     Brady Keeper has decided to retire from professional hockey. He last participated in 2023-24 with the Laval Rocket in the AHL. 
     The only action he had in the NHL was as a defenseman with the Florida Panthers. Keeper played one game in 2018-19 and one game in 2020-21.

Daryl Porter Jr. Signs With Steelers

     Former Broward County high school football player Daryl Porter Jr. has signed a one-year deal with the Pittsburgh Steelers. The undrafted free agent was waived last month by the Buffalo Bills. His father Daryl Porter Sr. was selected by the Steelers in the 1997 NFL Draft.
     Porter played high school football with the American Heritage Patriots. He participated in college football with West Virginia and Miami.

Marlins Hold Down Astros

      The Miami Marlins eased by the Houston Astros 6-4 on Wednesday. The Marlins avoided a three-game series sweep. 
      The Marlins finished the six-game homestand with a 4-2 record. They will visit the Atlanta Braves tomorrow.

Marlins Let Go Rob Brantly

     The Miami Marlins trimmed their roster and released catcher Rob Brantly. It ended his second tenure with the organization. 
     He participated in three games this season and had a .333 batting average. Brantly did play 98 games with Miami for two seasons in 2012 and 2013.

Teddy Bridgewater Back In NFL

     Teddy Bridgewater is returning to National Football League. He is signing a one-year contract with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. 
     Bridgewater retired from the NFL following the 2023 campaign. He spent last year as the head coach of the Miami Northwestern Bulls and guided them to the FHSAA Class 3A state championship. 

Tyler Huntley Returning To Browns

     One-time Broward County high school football player Tyler Huntley has reunited with the Cleveland Browns. He signed with that team prior to the 2024 season.
     Huntley, the former Hallandale Chargers quarterback, eventually ended up with the Miami Dolphins last year. He would then start in five contests for the team. 

Matt Mervis Released

      The Miami Marlins have released first baseman Matt Mervis. He was acquired in a trade during the offseason from the Chicago Cubs for Vidal Brujan. 
      Mervis was able to get in 42 games with the Marlins this season. He had seven home runs, 14 runs batted in and a .175 batting average.

Anthony Veneziano Goes To Cardinals

     Miami Marlins relief pitcher Anthony Veneziano has been claimed off waivers by the St. Louis Cardinals. He has been with the Marlins for the past two seasons in 34 games. 

Marlins Pick Up Joey Riemer

     The Miami Marlins continue to change their roster. They claimed outfielder Joey Riemer off waivers from the Kansas City Royals.
     Riemer has not been in the majors this season. He played for the Milwaukee Brewers and the Cincinnati Reds in 2024. 

Astros Take Marlins And Series

      The Houston Astros pushed by the Miami Marlins 7-3 at loanDepot park on Tuesday night. The Astros have won the three-game series. Houston(64-50) will go for the sweep tomorrow. 
      Miami(55-57) have lost two straight following a five-game winning streak. The Marlins lost their second series in their past 13 series.

Chris Lammons Re-Signs With Colts

     Former Broward County high school football player Chris Lammons has re-signed with the Indianapolis Colts. He was with them for 14 games last season.
     Lammons played high school football with the Plantation Colonels. He made his NFL debut with the Miami Dolphins in 2019. 

Dolphins Get Germain Ifedi

     The Miami Dolphins have signed offensive lineman Germain Ifedi. It is a one-year contract between him and the team. 
     Ifedi has been in the National Football League since 2016 and has participated in 117 games. He has played for the Seattle Seahawks, Chicago Bears, Atlanta Falcons and Cleveland Browns. 

Vidal Brujan Off To Orioles

     Vidal Brujan has been claimed off waivers by the Baltimore Orioles from the Chicago Cubs. He had three runs batted in and a .222 batting average in 36 contests with the Cubbies.
      He was a utility player with the Miami Marlins in 2024. Brujan played in 102 games and compiled a .222 batting average with two home runs and 16 runs batted in. 

Marlins Deal John Rooney

     The Miami Marlins have traded minor league pitcher John Rooney to the Houston Astros. The Fish will receive back cash considerations. 
     Rooney has never pitched in the majors. He has made 38 relief appearances with Marlins Triple-A affiliate in Jacksonville.

Kyle Stowers Player Of The Month

      Miami Marlins outfielder Kyle Stowers has been named the National League Player of the Month in July. The announcement was made by Major League Baseball. 
      Stowers was selected to the National League All-Star Team for the first time. He contributed to N.L. winning the MLB All-Star Game when he participated in the home run derby swing-off. 
      He had a .364 batting average, 10 home runs and 20 runs batted in during 24 games. Stowers chalked up a 1.269 OPS. 

Astros Speed By Marlins

     The Houston Astros zoomed by the Miami Marlins 8-2 at loanDepot park on Monday night. The Marlins had their five-game winning streak snapped. Astros outfielder Jesus Sanchez faced his former club for the first time. 
     Houston(63-50) rocketed out to a 6-0 lead by the top of the seventh. Miami(55-56) got back-to-back, pinch-hit home runs by Javier Sanoja and Derek Hill in the bottom of the seventh. It was the first time that the Marlins had back-to-back, pinch-hit homers since June 22, 2006.

Marlins Sweep Yankees

     The Miami Marlins beat the New York Yankees 7-3 at loanDepot park on Sunday. The Marlins completed a three-game sweep of the Yankees for the first time ever.
     The Marlins inducted former manager Jack McKeon prior to the game into the Marlins Legends Hall of Fame. He is part of the team's inaugural class that includes Jeff Conine, Jim Leyland and Luis Castillo. The Fish will host the Houston Astros on Monday.

Yankees Fall To Marlins

     The New York Yankees were blanked by the Miami Marlins 2-0 on Saturday at loanDepot park. Today marked the 46th anniversary of Yankees catcher Thurman Munson's death in a plane crash.
     The Marlins improved to 10-1-1 in their last 12 series. The Yankees were held to just two hits in the contest.
     Miami(54-55) picked up a solo home run from Agustin Ramirez in the bottom of the first. New York(60-51) surrendered another solo homer by Ramirez in the fourth inning.

Athlon Sports Adds Kevin Baxter

     Athlon Sports has issued their first magazine ever of soccer. One of the writers involved in the publication is Kevin Baxter as a columnist. He continues as a soccer columnist for the Los Angeles Times. 
     Baxter had worked at the Miami Herald prior to his arrival in Los Angeles. He was a sportswriter and a back-up sports media columnist at that newspaper. 

Panthers On Team Canada Roster

     Team Canada has announced their 42-man preliminary roster for the 2026 Winter Olympics in Italy. Several more Florida Panthers players were added. 
     Sam Reinhart was one of the first six members mentioned for the squad back in June. New players on the club include Sam Bennett, Carter Verhaeghe, Brad Marchand and Aaron Ekblad.

Jacob Stallings Leaves Orioles

     Jacob Stallings has left the Baltimore Orioles and has become a free agent. He was with the Colorado Rockies earlier this year.
     Stallings once played two seasons with the Miami Marlins for two seasons in 2022 and 2023. He participated in 202 contests with the Fish. 

Yankees Outscored By Marlins

     The Miami Marlins outlasted the New York Yankees 13-12 at loanDepot park on Friday night. The Yankees made their first regular season visit to South Florida in two seasons.
