Chicago(81-62) zipped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the third. Michael Conforto powered a solo home run barely over the center-field fence on a 3-1 pitch for his 14th homer of the season. Six batters later, Ian Happ came up the plate with the bases loaded. He singled into right field to bring in Miguel Amaya and Seiya Suzuki.
The Cubs expanded it to 4-0 with one run during the fourth inning. Pete Crow-Armstrong drove in Amaya on a base hit into center field.
Miami(71-72) cut the deficit to 4-2 in the bottom of the fourth as they composed two runs. Owen Caissie grounded into a force out and Griffin Conine touched home. Joe Mack followed with a single into left field and Otto Lopez scored.
In the top of the fifth, the Cubbies increased their lead to 5-2. Nico Hoerner sliced a single into shallow right field and Michael Busch raced home.
The Marlins answered back in the bottom of the frame and were down 5-4. Conine hammered a two-run homer to right field on a 2-1 count for his 15th home run this year. Javier Sanoja scored in front of him on the play.
Chicago regained a two-run lead 6-4 in the sixth inning. Busch picked up a base hit into right field for Conforto to score.
The Fish closed it to 6-5 in the seventh inning. Kyle Stowers socked a solo home run to center field on a 2-1 pitch for his 19th homer of the season.
