Tru Prep Academy At Atlantic Preview

     The Tru Prep Academy Saints take on the Atlantic Eagles at Boca Raton High School on Saturday night. It will be the first meeting ever between both teams. 
     TRU Prep Academy(4-1) started the season with wins over Akrlynn's Angels Christian Academy, Palm Glades Prep Academy and defending FHSAA Class 2A champion Champagnat Catholic. After a loss to St. Thomas Aquinas, the Saints responded with a 34-14 win over Monsignor Pace last week. Quarterback Nick Vattiato can connect passes to wide receivers Brandon Inniss and Vincent Pagano. Running back Max Balthazar will get the bulk of the carries. 
     Atlantic(0-0) finally began their season last week just like all the other public high schools in Palm Beach County. The Eagles had a 14-0 lead in the first quarter against West Boca Raton when the contest was postponed due to a weather delay. Running back Montahj Joseph will lead their offense and is expected to get the majority of rushing opportunities. He did score two touchdowns in their first game last week. 

Archbishop McCarthy At Cardinal Gibbons Cancelled

     The Archbishop McCarthy Mavericks was to face the Cardinal Gibbons Chiefs at Dr. Bud Tight Field in Fort Lauderdale on Friday night. It was to be a clash between both schools who have not met each other since 2012. 
     Archbishop McCarthy(1-5) has not make a FHSAA postseason appearance in a very long time and are 0-6 all-time against the Chiefs. Their only victory was against Somerset Academy South Homestead in Week 4. The Mavericks have been defeated by Belen Jesuit, Benjamin, Clewiston, Key West and Pine Crest. 
     Cardinal Gibbons(3-1) barely lost to former district foe American Heritage 23-17 last week. They began the 2020 campaign with victories over Monsignor Pace, Doral Academy and St. Thomas Aquinas. Quarterback Brody Palhegyi intends to find wide receivers Troy Stellato, Bryson Williams, Gabriel Morgan, Davon Kiser and Luke Dean on passing plays. Running backs Torrence Miller and Kamari Moulton will split carries from the backfield. 

Florida Panthers Re-sign MacKenzie Weegar

     The Florida Panthers have re-signed defenseman MacKenzie Weegar. It is a three-year contract worth $9.75 million. Weegar was a restricted free agent about to face arbitration.  
     Weegar has been with the Florida Panthers for the last four seasons. He had his best season in 2019-20 as he compiled a career-high seven goals, 11 assists and 18 points in 45 games.

American Heritage At St. Thomas Aquinas Preview

     The American Heritage Patriots challenge the St. Thomas Aquinas Raiders at Brian Piccolo Stadium in Fort Lauderdale on Friday night. It is a battle between two of the top private school high school football programs in Broward County. The game will be broadcast nationally on ESPN2. 
     American Heritage(5-1) won their last two games versus Venice and Cardinal Gibbons, following a defeat against Trinity Christian Academy. They did start the season with victories over Chaminade-Madonna, Clearwater and Bartram Trail. Quarterback Vinson Davis III will lead the Patriots offense and hand the ball off to running backs Mark Fletcher and Jerry Dinkins. Wide receivers Orande Gadsden II, Michael Watkins III and Jacolby Spells can catch passes from Murphy. 
     St. Thomas Aquinas(2-1) bounced back with a 31-7 victory over DeLand in Central Florida last week. The Raiders won their season opener over TRU Prep Academy and fell to Cardinal Gibbons in the following contest. Quarterback Zion Turner is a dual threat that can run the ball out of the pocket and throw passes downfield. Wide receiver Bralon Brown will be the primary target for Turner on pass completions. Running back Anthony Hankerson intends to rush the ball past the line of scrimmage. 

Miami Palmetto At Miami Northwestern Preview

     Miami-Dade County public schools begin Week 3 of the high school football season on Thursday night. The Miami Palmetto Panthers tangle with the Miami Northwestern Bulls at Traz Powell Stadium. 
     Miami Palmetto(2-0) have started off the year strong. They defeated the Booker T. Washington Tornadoes 28-8 and then beat Homestead 35-7. Wide receiver Breshard Smith looks to get open down the field to make catches. 
     Miami Northwestern(1-1) comes off a tough road loss to the MaxPreps top-ranked team IMG Academy 49-14 last week. The Bulls won their season opener over the Miami Central Rockets 21-14. Wide receiver Romello Brinson and tight end Khalil Brantley intend to make pass receptions from quarterback Taron Dickson. Running back Siddiq Jackson can get some rushing opportunities. 

Seattle Seahawks Land Alex Collins

     Former local high school football player Alex Collins has signed with the Seattle Seahawks. He will be placed on their practice squad. It will be his second stint with that club. 
     Collins played high school football with the South Plantation Paladins from 2009 until 2012. He went on to attend the University of Arkansas and stayed with the Razorbacks for three seasons. 
     He was selected by the Seahawks during the fifth round of the 2016 NFL Draft. Collins spent one season there followed by two seasons with the Baltimore Ravens.

inter Miami CF Standings Status

     Inter Miami CF found out their situation in the standings as they approached the final weekend of the 2020 Major League Soccer regular season. Chicago Fire FC tied their game against Minnesota United FC on Wednesday night and now all teams have played 22 games. 
     The Eastern Conference standings is a dogfight for the final playoff spot. Montreal Impact is in ninth place with 23 points while Chicago Fire FC also has 23 points. Atlanta United FC is on the outside of the bubble in 11th place with 22 points. 
     Inter Miami CF is currently in 12th place with 21 points and face FC Cincinnati at home on Sunday. They will have to jump at least two teams to make the postseason in the Eastern Conference and end up with one of the top ten playoff spots.
