The Mets had a pregame ceremony for the 40th anniversary of their 1986 World Series championship team. It was the last time that the Mets had captured a World Series title.
Miami(57-55) raced out to a 1-0 lead during the top of the first. Liam Hicks singled through the left side and Otto Lopez reached home.
It became 3-0 for the Marlins in the top of the second. Javier Sanoja lifted a two-run homer to left field on a 1-2 pitch with Kyle Stowers aboard. It was the fourth home run of the year for Sanoja.
New York(47-65) closed it to 3-2 in the bottom of the second. Tyrone Taylor walloped a two-run home run to left field on a 1-0 count with Marcus Semien on base for his 10th homer of the season.
The Fish increased their lead to 4-2 in the fourth inning. Lopez knocked in Esteury Ruiz with a sacrifice fly to right-center field.
In the sixth inning, Miami expanded it to 6-2. Griffin Conine connected with a solo home run to right field on the first pitch for his 10th homer of the campaign. Three batters later, Hicks drove in Lopez on a base hit through the right side.
